There was a haze over the ocean as Derek scanned the horizon. He rode on the back of his charizard Red, as they sailed through the sky many miles away from the mainland. Red also scanned the ocean far below. Derek’s lurantis Slash rode behind him, clinging to his jacket. “It should be here somewhere!” Derek muttered, consulting the map on his tablet again. Derek was a member of the Explorer’s League, and had been sent out to scout out an uncharted island far off the coast. “Charizard!” Red called urgently back to him, and Derek looked up from his tablet. Red pointed below, and Derek saw the island they had been seeking, partially cloaked in the thick ocean haze. ”Ah ha, I think that’s it! Great job Red, take us in!” Derek said excitedly. “Charizard!” Red replied, and began to descend. ”Lurantis?” Slash asked. “Yup, we found it! Hang on, we’re landing!” Derek called over his shoulder to Slash. “Lurantis!” he said, and clung tighter to the back of Derek’s jacket as he felt Red rapidly descending. Red tucked his wings to his body, streaking down towards the island, then slowly opened his wings to gradually slow his descent. He glided over the beach, then reared back to touch down gently. Derek and Slash slid off his back, and looked around. The first thing that caught Derek’s attention was the extremely massive plants and trees. “What the hell?” Derek muttered as he walked up to one of the massive trees on the edge of the forest, and ran his hand over the trunk. Red and Slash stood behind him, craning their necks to look up at the massive tree. “This is crazy! I think this is a maple tree, but it’s so huge!” Derek exclaimed. “Look at all of these other plants too!” Derek said as he examined some nearby throned vines. The vines were nearly as thick as tree trunks, and the red and black berries growing on them were bigger than watermelons. Derek pulled his pack off and pulled out his organic analyzer. It was a small square box with a screen, and a retractable metal probe on one end. He stuck the probe into one of the massive black berries, then pressed a button on the device. After a moment there was a beep, and Derek held the device up to read the screen. “According to this, it really IS a black berry! But it’s so huge! How is this possible? Something in the soil perhaps?” Derek mused as he rubbed his chin. Red sniffed at the large berry, then took a large bite out of it. “Red! I don’t know if that’s safe to eat! Though I suppose it is technically a black berry according to the scanner…” Derek said. Red simply shrugged and took another bite. “Lurantis!” Slash exclaimed, and snatched a piece of the berry, and took a bite. “You guys are hopeless! Oh well, I suppose I might as well try a little…” Derek said, and helped himself to a small piece. It did taste exactly like a black berry, though maybe a bit more sour due to its huge size. “C’mon guys, let's head in deeper” Derek said, motioning for them to follow him into the forest. The three of them wandered through the forest of gigantic trees. Derek used his organic analyzer many times, and it confirmed that these were in fact not new types of trees and plants. They were previously documented types, only on a gigantic scale. After walking through the forest for quite some time, the trees parted and they came to a wide open grassy area. The blades of grass were massive, but were surprisingly short, and appeared to have been grazed on. There was a large waterhole near the center of the large grassy area, and they made their way towards it. Derek was curious to see if there were any freshwater plants he could analyze. As they approached the water hole, the surface started to ripple, and a massive shape began to rise from it. Red and Slash quickly positioned themselves in front of Derek, and took up defensive stances. Derek was shocked when he realized the creature emerging from the water was a giant bulbasaur. It was even bigger than any of the venusaurs he had seen before, dwarfing them in fact. His mind reeled as he wondered how big a venusaur this bulbasaur might evolve into. The bulbasaur turned towards them, looking at them curiously as it made its way out of the water and lumbered towards them. ”Would you look at the size of them!” Derek said wonderingly. Red and Slash gaped at the bulbasaur. Bulbasaurs were generally harmless, but to see one that was so huge was startling. “Bulbasaur!” it rumbled loudly, then stopped about 30ft away from them, looking at them curiously. “This is incredible! I want to take a closer look” Derek said. He started to step forward, but Red stepped in front of him to stop him. “Charizard!” Red said in a warning tone. “Relax Red, it’s a bulbasaur, they’re harmless!” Derek said. No sooner had he said that, then there was a sound like a whip cracking, a thick vine suddenly wrapped tightly around Red, pinning their arms to their sides, and causing him to roar in surprise. Red was dragged off his feet and towards the bulbasaur, more vines lashed out and wrapped around him. Red roared again, then began inhaling deeply in preparation to breathe fire, but another vine whipped around his muzzle, clamping it shut. Instead of a burst of flame, smoke burst from his nostrils harmlessly. Red’s eyes bulged with surprise, and growing fear as he was thrashed helplessly as he was dragged relentlessly across the ground towards the bulbasaur. Derek and Slash stared in complete shock as the bulbasaur easily lifted Red off the ground, and proceeded to slide him into his jaws. “Red no!” Derek yelled as he watched the charizard disappear into the bulbasaur’s jaws, the shocked look on Red’s face was the last Derek saw of him before the bulbasaur’s jaws snapped shut. The bulbasaur tilted their head back, and a squirming bulge passed down their thick neck, then vanished. Derek stood there in total shock. “Lurantis!” Slash shouted, tugging frantically on Derek’s pant leg. The bulbasaur set their sights on Derek and Slash, its thick tongue licked across their jaws hungrily. Slash continued frantically tugging on Derek’s pant leg, and the danger of the situation finally sank in. He turned to run, and immediately collided with what felt like a tree trunk. He sat dazed on the ground for a moment, then realized what he had run into. It was the treetrunk sized leg of a giant bayleaf. It had come up behind them as they were distracted by the bulbasaur. “Bayleaf?” the giant bayleaf asked in a booming voice, tilting its head curiously at him. Before Derek could react, multiple vines whipped out from the bayleaf, and quickly ensnared him. Derek cried out in fear as the vines coiled tightly around him, and he struggled in vain as he was lifted off the ground. “Slash, run! Save yourself!” Derek yelled as he was slowly lifted towards the bayleaf jaws as they yawned open. ”Lurantis!” Slash cried out in fear as Derek was dropped into the bayleafs jaws. Slash could see Derek’s arms flailing, attempting to cling to the bayleaf’s lower jaw, but the bayleaf simply used their wide tongue, curling it over Derek’s face and pushing him into their throat. A squirming bulge slid down the bayleaf’s long neck, and soon disappeared. The bayleaf belched loudly, then turned its attention to Slash. Knowing he was vastly outmatched, Slash turned and ran for the trees. Slash didn’t know how long he ran, but eventually he paused to look back. The bayleaf and bulbasaur hadn’t followed. He was safe for the moment, but now he was completely alone. He decided it would be best to head back to the beach. Perhaps the Explorer’s League would send a ship when Derek didn’t report back. After catching his breath, Slash began heading back to the beach. As he moved between the large trees and plants, he was startled when what he had thought was a plant began to move. “Leavanny?” a voice asked, and Slash froze. What he had mistaken for a plant, was actually a giant Leavanny. Slash was frozen in fear, and before he could react, the leavanny bent down, and swiped at him, catching Slash up in its leaf-like appendage. Slash grunted as he struggled, but could not break free. He slashed at the Leavanny’s hand, but it seemed unbothered. The leavanny held Slash in front of their face as they considered him, then popped them into their mouth. Slash was tumbled around in the leavanny’s mouth as the massive tongue licked and tasted him, and he soon found himself extremely dizzy. The tasting was brief, and Slash found themselves sliding down the leavanny’s tight throat. It was a quick trip, and soon Slash found themselves deposited into the churning stomach. The stomach’s odor was overpowering, smelling similar to cut grass as the levanny fed mostly on vegetation. In the darkness, Slash felt along the slick walls, desperate to figure out how to escape. He growled angrily, and slashed at the wall in frustration. The slash caused the whole stomach to jerk violently, and Slash was knocked backwards and off his feet. The leavanny was tough on the outside, but maybe not so tough on the inside? Determined, Slash launched another assault on the stomach walls. He heard the leavanny groan, and the stomach shook violently again. “Leavanny!” Slash heard the leavanny exclaim, sounding as though it was in discomfort. The stomach lurched again, then contracted tightly. Slash found himself being forced back up through the way he had entered the stomach, and up the leavanny’s throat. Slash tumbled to the ground along with the contents of the leavanny’s stomach. He was dazed and covered in slime. He quickly hopped back to his feet, and faced the leavanny, ready to dodge if it tried to grab him again. Instead the leavanny grimaced at him, then turned and strode away. It had decided Slash was very much not to their liking. Slash sighed with relief, but then tensed when he heard the sound of something coming towards him through the brush. He was shocked when Derek suddenly emerged, and tripped over him. Derek hit the ground with a grunt. “Lurantis!” Slash exclaimed excitedly, and tackled Derek in his happiness to see him. “You made it! Oh what a relief!” Derek said. He was covered in a thick coat of slime, much like Slash was. “Lurantis?” Slash asked Derek, tilting his head at him questioningly. “If you’re asking how I got away, apparently meat diets don’t agree with grass type pokemon! Luckily that bayleaf coughed me back up! I’m hoping the same thing happened to Red, but once that bayleaf hacked me up, I ran! I hope Red’s ok!” Derek said worriedly. “Lurantis!” Slash said, and motioned in the direction of the beach. “Were you heading to the beach? Good idea! If Red manages to get free, hopefully he will find us there!” Derek said as he climbed back to his feet. The two of them continued heading towards the beach. Once at the beach, the first order of business was to clean the gunk coating them off. Derek went into the water, clothes and all, as Slash followed him in. They didn’t venture in very far though. After seeing the giant pokemon of the island, they were fearful of what might be lurking in the waters surrounding it. Derek gathered some wood, and made a small fire to help them dry off. They huddled next to each other, eyeing the nearby forest warily. They were startled when they heard a roar in the sky. Derek looked up fearfully, but his fear turned to relief when he spotted Red flying over the trees. The smoke rising from their fire had served as a beacon for him. Red spotted them, and immediately flew to them, making a less than graceful landing on the beach. He flopped to the ground, sand stuck to the slime covering him. “Red, you’re ok!” Derek cried, and ran over to hug his neck. “Charizard!” Red said tiredly, and hugged Derek back. “Guess you got coughed up too?” Derek asked, he couldn’t stop grinning seeing that Red was ok. Red nodded wearily, and laid his head back down in the sand with a loud sigh. Slash came over and patted Red on the head, who grinned up at him. After a brief rest, Red lumbered into the ocean, cleaning the gunk off himself, then came to rest by the fire with Derek and Slash. The three of them were overjoyed to be back together. As they rested by the fire, a crashing sound came from the forest. “Venusaur!” A thundering voice bellowed. The three of them looked fearfully at each other, and Red quickly got up, motioning frantically for them to get on his back. Derek and Slash didn’t have to be told twice, and immediately climbed on. With a powerful flap of his wings, Red launched himself into the air. The thundering voice bellowed again, but they were safely into the sky, and didn’t look back.
