A short story about a wolf discovering the side of himself, he never truly explored.

Originally, I have imagined a whole VN-length detective story with a few characters i envisioned. Its a daunting task, that I doubt Ill consider going for. So for now, enjoy this introduction to one of them.

You pace endlessly around the cramped apartment, worried. Youve met her just today. Mira Zareva is the chief of police, who was tasked with assisting you in the investigation of the murder of the only human in the region. You remember her confidence. Back then, she somehow noticed you'd never been to a city populated almost entirely by anthros. You'd never even met one before either. Despite being a wolf, you lived your whole life in a city full of humans. In what already seemed to be her signature manner, she said back then, "Let me come to you tonight, puppy. I will teach you how to be a proper wolf." You agreed without thinking about what it implied. Now you're wondering if that was a mistake. A knock on the door jolts you away from all those thoughts. The door opens, and there she stands. Her fur is slightly darker than yours and considerably fluffier. She walks in confidently, smiling. A small bag hangs from her paw. "Hey, puppy. How is your investigation going?" You wonder why she keeps calling you puppy. "Hey. Its slow, but I have a few leads." "Oh! Am I a suspect too?" she asks with a chuckle as she looks at the evidence whiteboard you carelessly forgot to hide. "Everyone is." You smile nervously. "Thats smart." She puts her bag down and takes out some device - layers of glass stacked neatly atop one another. "Have you seen this one before?" she asks while preparing several small packets. You shake your head, eyeing the device suspiciously. She turns to look at you. Her expression turns serious. "Do you trust me?" "Of course!" She chuckles. "You really shouldnt. But I will ask you to. I promise you will like it." She offers you a blindfold. You look at it, confused. "You can remove it any time. I promise." You hesitate for a bit before reluctantly putting it on. You are certain that she is smiling again. You sit in silence for a moment before hearing sounds of running water, then the sounds of something plastic being ripped open. The silence returns... But then, you can smell it. Its very subtle. You give the air another sniff, then another. Its a very unique smell. It feels like leaves, the rain in the forest, some damp wood. The rest feels familiar, but hard to pinpoint. You do not see, yet your mind builds a picture. You are alone in the forest beneath the autumn rain. You can almost hear that rain. Actually, you do hear it. "Hope you dont mind that I turned on the TV." Her voice startles you; how does she move so silently? "Sorry." The smile can be heard clearly in her voice. "Now, do not panic." "What do you mean?" She doesnt answer. You smell something new, something from those old unpleasant memories. But also, something that brings drive. That animalistic desire. It smells like blood in the air. You try to pull on the blindfold. "Im fine. Dont worry. Just... trust me, okay?" She sounds serious. You let the blindfold stay. "Each person has a smell, so is their blood. Focus on mine." You focus. Its metallic, but faint. There is nothing to focus on. Until it clicks. Barely noticeable at first. There is a twinge of sweetness in it... The smell grows stronger. She's moving closer. She's to your right. You give an involuntary sniff of the air. "Now you are getting it, puppy." She takes your paw gently. You feel her nail on one of the fingers. "May I?" You nod. Its a tiny prick - just enough to draw blood. Now you can smell it too. Its barely noticeable. She gently pulls your paw closer to your face. "Can you tell the difference?" The smell is indeed different. Obvious, now that you notice it. Its even more metallic, slightly rougher and less sweet. She puts a cloth in your hand and lets it go. Her breath lingers, though. She`s right in front of your face. The air flows across your fur. You know what comes next and you let her. You want it too. There is a brief hesitation before she moves in closer and kisses you on the lips. You embrace each other. You two are kissing in the rain of the autumn forest. Her kiss is gentler than you expected. The moment stretches pleasantly as you let yourself enjoy it. It feels just right. Finally, she pulls away. She removes your blindfold and the forest disappears all at once. You catch a glimpse of her licking her lips. She is still smiling. "Did you enjoy your lesson, puppy?"
