Silent Scream Part 2
The second part to
story involving the adventures of a family flying around in space. Looks like they're making it to the rest of the fleet after escaping the planet from an alien attack, but will they get there without trouble? Find out.
Silent Cream 2
Eyes looked on at the amazing display of the beautiful shining stars passing by them one after another. Each were so far apart that it was amazing they could share light at all, but now they passed by like lamp posts on a street. One then the next, and another after that in an endless sea of lights. The speed that they were going was enormous and while they didn't feel any pressure on their bodies all the way out in the depths of space it still wasn't safe to go moving around while the ship was traveling this fast. Any slight change of weight, any adjustment to the ship at all could easily put the vessel off course and make it crash into one of the many stars that were passing by them on the well established and approved flight path. Even from their seats it looked like they were moving in a straight line, but this was far from the case. The computer is required to look up reports on planet movement, meteor positioning, star patterns, and many other elements that might get in the way so that it can plan out the course that will take them weaving through systems and around asteroid belts so that when they arrive at their destination it will be in a single piece. The movement was fast, as the ship lifted, fell, shifted, twisted, and moved in any angle needed to get through the always approaching space objects, but to them inside it was as simple a trip as walking across a street. They didn't know the challenges that they faced out here, they didn't know how many times they might have come close to the destruction of this ship which would leave them as plastered stained, and it was likely that they didn't want to know either. They knew that they were still alive, and in the state of the planet that they just escaped from being alive was more than they were expecting at this point. That didn't mean that this trip was something that they could simply relax on. Matthew had to keep his eyes on the heat gauges, on the fuel consumption, on the vitals of this ship that would leave most needing a crew for each thing, but this wasn't the young spark's first jump and he'd learned quite a bit about his family ship long before they ever handed it over to him.
"How far out at we to join up with the rest of the ships that escaped?" Delina asked softly while she turned her eyes from the radar screen towards Matthew who looked back at her with a smile.
"Probably another day, We've passed by the outer asteroid belt so it should be pretty safe to move around if you all want to. The computer will sound through the ship when we get close enough to the fleet."
"Why are they sending us so far out?" Mrs. Ashley asked quickly in return, not seeing a distance between leaving the system and going over a day's time in jump speed to get where they're going.
Matthew turned around in his seat so that he didn't need to keep looking over his shoulder from one side to the next, using the chair's ability to turn entirely around to his advantage, "It's just a safety location in case something like this, or raiders, happen. Basically, the long burn is there to shake off anyone that might try to follow planetary ships. It's hard to follow someone who's in leap for over twenty-four hours."
Ashley then nodded to this, but smiled to Matthew while her other two sons that weren't seated at the front of the ship moved to slide in closer in their nervous display. Her movements went to unfasten her seat belt, the sound of the audible click releasing her from the seat so that she could find out that the auto-gravity was working very well. As others looked over at her actions this mother of four went to unfasten the two boys as well so that they could stand with her. Both of Delvin's bothers stretched out pretty well, still worried, but keeping close to their mother despite their age. If anything she was a sign of comfort for them, and nobody ever grows too old to be comforted by their parents. With that continuing smile she'd reach down to take hold of their shoulders, leading them towards the exit of the bridge.
"If we're going to be on this ship for a while then I'm going to go ahead and start cooking something. Where's the kitchen, Matthew?" She asked with an odd confidence, trying to already adapt to her new situation and overpower it with her very will.
"Ugh.." Matthew stuttered at first, just blinking at the display this mother was putting on before answering her. "It's just down the hall to the left. If you come to the bedding rooms then you've gone too far. We don't have much, Mrs. Ashley, but you're welcome to look around and make up what we've got."
Another very audible click came from the sound near the radar as Delvin's only sister moved to stand up. A few steps took her around the bridge before she'd turn to head towards the exit as well. Matthew didn't mind people walking around, he basically gave them permission to do so now that it was safe. The computer was more than capable of handling a little movement now that they were in dark space and wouldn't be colliding with any belts that would rip this entire ship into shards of scrap metal. Her reasons for getting up, for leaving her seat as well as the bridge was her own, but still Matthew felt the need to question her about it even if just to pick on his best friend's younger, and only, sister for a bit. "Where do you think you're going?"
"I've got to pee." She said quickly as she looked back to the grinning owner of this ship.
"How lady-like of you to put it that way."
"I have a lot of brothers, besides looking at stuff zoom across us on a radar isn't going to help anyone do anything."
Matthew smirked at this and looked towards the father who only stared back at him while waiting for the ship owner's very obvious question, "Are you going to stretch your legs as well?"
The dad smiled easily while he thought about his answer, but shook his head. "I'm between all those kids and these weapon controls. I think I'm where I need to be."
When Delina went to turn back away from them again she'd be frozen in place by the sound of a high pitched beeping rapid firing at them. Her eyes widened, her feet lifted to kick against the floor back towards her seat, but the sudden jerking of the ship under her fast dash would throw her off of her feet suddenly. The entire boat felt like it was immediately pulled to the left and without any footing for her racing toes to come down on this girl found her body crashing down to the floor between the passenger chairs that her brothers and mother had been sitting at. Her loud scream of fright and surprise didn't change anything, but whatever had hit them not only had came in too fast for the computer to avoid but had knocked them out of their warp all together. They weren't dead in the water and the panel showed that the ship's thrusters were still propelling at a normal rate. Something else was wrong which took Matthew to start activating the outside cameras to try and pull up a video screen of something coming.
Her father had rushed over help her off of the floor, but none of their eyes ever left the projection of that video screen showing one image after another of the cameras about the ship looking on at the dark depths of space. The deep void of darkness was littered with what looked like pin-pricks of light thanks to the stars that now surrounded them and not one camera could even catch a glimmer of the planet that they'd just left only a half day ago. Something was still wrong, though, and all of them knew that it would need to be discovered and resolved before any solution could come about. Finally as the last few cameras turned their eyes all widened at once, staring on in amazement at the sight of blinking lights feeding lines of signals that ran down the length of blue liquid-looking tendrils. The creature that held them now looked like that of a giant squid, moving, shifting, pulling their ship closer in it's tight grasp as it stopped their movement so instantly. There was no telling what kind of ship could pull another out of jump speed, but they did easily recognize the tone of blue and the way that the tendrils just seemed to stretch and mold into the shape of that vessel. It was obvious to him that the same creatures that attacked their planet were out here as well, waiting, watching, and looking to prey. Delvin could feel his heart racing at the sight of the massive ship, but Matthew had already taken control of the situation. The turning of the thrusters did nothing, no matter which direction he turned them towards there was no way to get out of this hold. As the blonde boy turned back towards the father, he'd need to deliver his orders quickly.
"Mr. Geoffries," he said to him gaining this man's attention instantly, "Activate the side guns. We're blasting our way out."
The father gave a fast nod, an easy signal that he understood what he was being told and moved back towards his seat to start looking over the control panel. The weapon systems were basic enough with a display of the ship and the weapons that could be used. Nothing was damaged on the ship at all and with a quick push of a button the sound of a deep hum echoed through the Matthew's vessel. An ion light built at the end of the two barrels on the side leaving the call of an echoing zap that filled the hull with the discharge. An ion bolt ripped from the barrel of the blaster cannons and crashed against the underside of this space squid. It's body jerked back, twisting, turning, but loosening enough so that when Matthew activated his thrusters again the ship was able to pull free from those tentacles leaving it whipping, turning, rotating, and shifting through space while this massive ship continued to try and trap them again. People waited in awe, not a single sound, not a single breath, not even the sound of anything falling called out. Another blue tendril arched up, swinging hard and connecting to the side of the ship, but the father was already on it and fired the right rear canon to impact the goo-y trapping so that it would be knocked off just as soon as it connected.
Matthew quickly pushed the ship to it's max speed, taking it manual while the computer worked to recalculate the last course for another jump. Every moment that they took left Geoffries to have to shoot more and more of these incoming tentacles, but when that red light came on, illuminating the emergency jump the young captain quickly slapped his hand down on it, pushing it completely flat on the console while the feeling of the sudden jerk taking them into their jump at the speed of light itself. The hot burning engines cooked well, but safely, and the blue creature would be left to instantly vanish into the distance behind them. This father let out a deep sign, slumping back in his seat while Ashley immediately wrapped her arms around him in a light cheer.
"You did it, honey! You shot those tendrils!" It was clear that she was happy, that she was overjoyed, and while she smiled to her husband other cheers were echoing through the ship as well.
Everyone provided their congratulations all around, pats on the back, praise, and just the joy of getting away from the threat so that they could be safe again. It would still be a little while longer, but if they didn't get attacked anymore than they might just catch up with the evacuation fleet yet.

The voice over the speakers of the ship spoke clearly and loudly, lifting the heads of the passengers to the closest speaker that they could find, "Attention everyone. We're coming out of jump. Please hold onto something or buckle yourselves in if you can."
A few of them came to the bridge, looking out at the wash of stars flowing by while the vessel started to slow. Seats were taken, belts were put on, and the red lever up above the pilot's seat was slowly pushed forward in order to slow the thing down just enough so that when they came out of their jump the ship would already be decelerating. What they could see out there was the flashing lights from hundreds of ships, that all seemed to be floating around a massive vessel that easily towered any of the other ones. The look of awe came over them while this massive structure stood there in the ocean of the void while smaller ships looked nearly like flies to it. Not even Matthew knew what to make of it, having no clue that they even had a ship this big back home. This amazement would continue on if it wasn't for the soft beeping that perfectly matched a small blinking light called out to them. Delvin was closer and hit the light quickly, pushing it in and looking on as the front screen would change from a glass view of the massive ship to having a blonde man sitting in a chair calling out to them.
"Attention shuttle. This is the EPS-D Harrison reaching out for rendezvous with any incoming ships. How many people are arriving with you?" he seemed nice enough, the words feeling a bit stilted like he'd said it a couple dozen times just today alone.
"This is Matthew Castro. We have seven survivors from the alien attack and are ready to board."
"Confirmed, please stand by for drag beam and deactivate your engines."
It was common knowledge to turn the thrusters off when docking and to let the more stationary shuttle do all of the work. What this family needed to do now was simply gather up their stuff and wait for the docking to be completed. Matthew didn't even need to worry about piloting too much because of the slow speed that the drag beam would pull them in right where they needed to be. In less than a minute the main door was opening into an air-tight sealed tunnel with another sliding door at the other end. This short tube was the only thing separating them from the depths of the void and they were out here with no suit at all as they stepped carefully, feeling the weightlessness washing over them just before the doors opened at the other end and they were met by two baton wielding soldiers and a man in a very official looking uniform. His hand wrapped around a clip board and his finger went to check to make sure that the number that was provided was still correct.
"Matthew Castro... seven survivors..." He repeated off of his board before lifting those eyes up to them and giving them an easy smile. It wouldn't do anyone any good for the entire situation to be stiff and wooden. This wasn't some military mission, but was all about survival now. These people had to work and get along with one another and it would be no good to anyone for the people to mistrust what little bit remained of the current government, "You all look rather well. Welcome to the Harrison. If you come with us we'll get you set up with rooms. You can also choose to stay on your ship if you want, but I promise it will stay safe and secure and none of us will go on it."
This ship was huge and even now the movement of other survivors and soldiers shuffled about here and there while they passed along the hallways and towards the living quarters. Normally one would expect some kind of barracks with no walls, but that wasn't the case. This massive carrier was build to be able to house as many troops as possible, but also to do so comfortably enough that they could have doubled up rooms. When this escort brought them towards the first available ones that he was able to reach the door was opened to show that nobody had taken up residency in them yet. Two beds set as a bunk against the far wall and even a bathroom set to the side with a standing shower and a toilet. There wasn't much else that was needing and it would be perfectly fine for them to store their gear in. It was then time to make some decisions about the living situation, something that the mother would speak up on as authority.
"I'm going to be staying with your father, but Delvin, why don't you Daniel and Devin share a room together."
Matthew quickly spoke up to this, lifting a hand as he did to volunteer. "Delvin can stay with me. No reason to let a beg go to waste."
This was something that they could all agree to leaving them to take their own rooms and set their bags inside. It was only then that the escort would hand them all a pamphlet with a map of the ship on it, "You can all get settled in now and make yourselves at home. The time on this ship is currently 6:20pm and we'll need you all to report to debriefing in the main dining facility at 9:00pm. It's marked on the map, but you can also just follow this red line on the floor." He pointed at the very clear indicator that some might even claim to be stupid proof. "Please make sure to stay out of the engine areas, the military sectors, and the bridge unless your invited.
The family nodded and they'd all take a moment to retreat into their rooms, starting to claim beds and dig through their belongings. With a sigh Delvin sat there on the almost soft mattress, just relaxing and thinking about things. The blonde friend came over to sit beside him, smiling at him while this brown haired man kept himself lost in thought. Maybe it was best if Matthew tried to take his friend's mind off of things that just happened, getting him to focus on something else so that he wouldn't be so mopey. "Hey, Delvin, remember when we used to date? Those were good times. I almost kind of regret sometimes that we took our own paths. Being out here in space all the time can get pretty lonely, you know?"
This topic drew Delvin's attention, made him look over and watch Matthew's face before delivering a soft smile to him that was filled with an easy chuckle. "Yeah, that was pretty fun. I remember you always did everything you could to make me laugh. I'm surprised you haven't found someone else to follow you around the ever exciting job of space salvaging."
"Hey, it's a lucrative business, man. Not everyone can cut it out there in the stars."
Another soft laugh filled the air with Delvin nodding softly in agreement. The talk fell silent for the two, the first time seeing one another in years and both looking just as nervous as they had when they first started dating. Matthew leaned in slowly, drawing his friend to do the same just before their lips slowly crossed and crushed, tasting the flavor of their mouths and pulling from them a soft moan and sigh which parted their lips just enough that their tongues to softly tough tip to tip before sliding across the surface of one another. Hands lifted to slowly hook the back of their heads, fingers crossing fingers, hands holding hands, and finally Delvin turning his head downward to break the kiss as a burning blush reddened his entire face. Matthew's eyes, having been half closed, opened slowly to this as he looked on to his friend's expression of near shame from what he'd done.
"I'm sorry, it was my fault, I shouldn't have gone for it." Matthew quickly stated in hopes of keeping his friend from feeling bad.
Delvin only responded to this by shaking his head, "No, it's not that. I did something... really bad earlier today and it's still kind of following me around."
"W.. What do you mean? What did you do?"
Delvin blushed again, looking up at the face of his blonde friend while he tried to remember all of the details. "Earlier today.. well.. I guess it was yesterday, when I was looking up footage about the alien attack I found a news broadcast. The reporter and her camera man were attacked by the aliens and they raped them..."
"That's not your fault. It was a video you saw."
Again his head shook quickly and his blush got brighter, "No.. I found it.. really hot and masturbated to it..." Delvin's head dropped with a sigh into his head that gripped the front of his face. "I'm really that fucked up, I guess."
Matthew was surprised by this at first, hearing the information and processing it, but it was obvious that his friend needed him and he wasn't going to just let him feel bad about something like that. "Hey, look man. No matter how fucked up you might be, I'm always going to be here for you. Ok? Don't even worry about it."
To this Delvin smiled brightly, moving to slide his hands up around Matthews neck so that he could pull him down onto the bed on both of their sides. Just laying there for now as they snuggled up. It had been a busy day and far more than uneventful trip just to get here. Delvin knew that he could use some rest, but the sound of Matthew already starting to breath deeper in sleep made the young man smile and slowly start to join him.
* * *
The two were only able to get a small nap before the loud knock came across their door. Both stood up at once, but it was Matthew that walked over to open it. The smiling face of Mrs. Ashley looked back at him while she peered into the room and saw her yawning son standing there. The mother told them both that it was time for their debriefing that was mentioned earlier by the escort leaving them both to nod and start their way towards the hallway once more. This door closed behind them as they rejoined the others, looking down at the red line on the floor to follow it around one bend after another. By the time they got to this dining hall the tables had all been stacked up against the wall and the chairs were set out in rows. Nobody else was here, though, and that left this family to come and sit down in what looked to be the most comfortable chair to them that they could find. Some sat in the front row, some in the second and another in the third, but none of them were out of arms reach from the other giving them a sense of safety while a man stood in front of all of them with a note pad.
"I'm sure that you're all tired, so I'll make this quick." He'd say to them in a deep and gruff voice, "I just need to know what happened before you guys left the planet."
"Haven't other survivors already told you what happened?" Delvin quickly spoke up with his question.
"Yes they have, but you might have seen something that they all missed. That's why we're asking everyone the same questions."
Ashley didn't want to make fuss and placed her hand on Delvin's shoulder for support while she smiled to the uniformed man, "Well I saw the evacuation notice on the news while I was watching TV with my husband so I gathered up the kids and a few things and left to the space port. Delvin wasn't there yet so we called him, and then Matthew showed up so we didn't have to wait in line because he has his family's salvage ship."
All of the others nodded in agreement to this, but his attention turned towards the Delvin and Matthew who were being quiet. "So you two weren't with your family when the invasion happened. Where were you and what were you doing?"
"I um.." Delvin said softly, not wanting to tell this man about the news broadcast that he found.
It was Matthew to the rescue who reached out and wrapped his hand around his friends, "We were together, laying in bed. You don't want the details."
The debrief-er was shocked at this, but drew a quick smile and chuckled. "No, no I don't. Thank you for that. You can all go back to your rooms if you like. There's also a rec room next door to this one, and meals are anytime, but the dining hall his closed at 10am, 3pm, and 8pm to 5am for cleaning."
As they all rose to leave the man quickly pointed to Delvin and Matthew, "Oh, there is one more thing. The admiral needs to see you two."
They kind of wanted to ask why, but both realized quickly that such things was beyond his man's pay-grade, and that he was just following orders. It could have something to do with anything really. Maybe they picked up residue from the goo ship that attacked them, maybe having a ship means that they'd need to go on supply runs. There were many possible reasons for why the admiral would want to talk with them, but no reason would ever get to either of these two when the lights dimmed and the red siren started to sound loudly against the walls of the hallways. The man even looked worried now, but turned towards them quickly to start shoving them back in the way they'd come.
The speaker was loud and spoke with a deep tone of authority, "Attention all passengers. Please return to your rooms at this time. We need all soldiers to report to their battle stations. I repeat..."
The message said the same thing again, and while turning his head out the window Delvin was able to see the glow of blue tentacles attacked to another squid looking vessel already closing in on this fleet.
