Chapter 3.

Joey stared at the small brass key in his paw, then squeezed his thick sheath, nudging his knot as he thought about that hot little fox, with his tight rump, and the deal they'd just struck.

The die had been cast, and oh, the things he was going to make Colin do, to get this key back.

With sudden insight, he walked to the front of the store and slid the sign in the window down to "CLOSED" ...

Colin would very likely be arriving soon, begging for the key.

Yep, that's how it'll go, he decided. But you can't beg if there's no one TO beg.

He needs a few days, at the very least, to fully appreciate his particular situation.

Good things come to foxes who wait.

There would be plenty of time for begging, later.

For now, he had some friends to go discuss this with. Events might turn very entertaining for everyone involved... yes indeed.

Outside, Joey shut the door and twisted the key in the lock, glancing up and down the street before he walked away.

Colin walked quickly up to the storefront, "Eventful Beginnings," and tried to push the door open, but it was locked, and the lights were off inside.

The sign said CLOSED.

That... can't be right. They were supposed to be open for another two hours!

Having to wait until tomorrow, to take this off? He whimpered quietly. That concept, being forced to wait, it was hot, but, he groaned at the mere thought, hardening up inside the tube all over again.

He needed to paw so bad, now, it literally hurt.

He could wait, though. This would be hell, but he didn't really have a choice. Somehow he'd make it through the night, get here first thing in the morning. What time did they open?

He stared closer at the sign, then gasped a sharp inhale with dawning realization, holding his ears so flat they shook.

Unconsciously, he reached down to touch the heavy lump of steel through his pants, then yanked his paw away as soon as he felt it.

Colin took quick, shallow breaths, whimpering loudly, shaking his head.

No!

He held both of his paws against the door, and hung his muzzle in defeat with his eyes shut tight.

The store was open Tuesday through Saturday.

Today was Saturday.
