#17 of Seekers

Location: New Vega, Club Phymn, Room 172.

Time: 12:05pm.

Year: 2180, March 6th.

I woke up to the sound of an alarm ringing in my head. It had been doing that about three times before until it stopped and waited five more minutes; then it resumes and tries to wake me up again. This time I opened my eyes and reached across to turn off the alarm clock. I couldn't reach, so instead, I simply reached for the plug and turned the clock off from there.

Then there was only silence. I listened to my breathing for a minute, and then turned over to face a large, scaly green heap in front of my muzzle. It was Damien, and he was awake. I felt his arms slowly wrap around me as he stroked his head against mine.

"I thought you were never going to wake up." The Dragon laughed quietly. "You might want to take it easy; last night got a little...out of hand."

I suddenly felt my whole body. Pain was shooting straight through me, especially in my lower body, which felt completely broken. I started to moan and groan in pain as if I had been used more than I thought last night. I decided to ask Damien something before I got up.

"You didn't do anything while I was passed out, did you?" I asked, trying not to wince too much in pain.

Damien tried to look everywhere but at me. I could tell that he must have done something to me in my sleep. I didn't blame him, but I was still a little angry at him for not telling me in the first place.

I started to get up, and almost fell off of the bed in doing so. My legs had gone numb, and my mouth was aching from last night. My fur was damp with sweat and was twisted and tattered. I stumbled into the shower to wake myself up and get everything off of my fur. Unfortunately, it took at least half an hour to completely clean it all; even my tail was tattered.

After a long shower, I dried myself off and put on my white jumpsuit, not noticing that Damien was starting to get up. I was at the door when I turned around and saw the green Dragon approach me. He placed both his hands on my shoulders and pulled me closer towards him.

"I forgot to tell you." Damien whispered into my ear; "The Administrator wanted me to tell you that you have today off. So I guess that since we are both free today, maybe we can..."

"I'm already dressed." I replied, pulling myself free. "Besides, Seekers need to keep their skills sharp during their days off."

With that, I exited the room and made for the main hall again. The mornings were always the same; wake up next to a complete stranger, have a shower, put on my jumpsuit, go into the main hall and have a glass of water. Now that I think about it, all days seemed the same; the mornings are the same, and in the day, I would always keep on jumping across rooftops, and in the evenings I would end up sleeping with complete strangers even though I was just in my teenage years.

It was a strangely pleasing life...

Location: New Vega, Club Phymn, Rooftops.

Time: 14:30pm.

I had lost focus again!

I cursed out loud and wondered where I was. I was still dressed in my jumpsuit, and I had all of my equipment strapped on; I also noticed by the appearance of the roof that I was on top of the club. The weather was hard and brutal; the rain had started beating against my chest as I looked up at the sky, which was a dull shade of grey. It was the perfect weather to practice in, so I pulled my hood over and wasted no time.

I started with the usual sprint over to the edge of the rooftop, and kicked off of the edge front first onto the other building. I made it over the few the few meters and slid on my chest across the concrete. Unfortunately, the concrete was too wet, causing me to slide all the way over to the next edge; I had to force a roll and dive across to the other building, which I barely managed to land on.

I forced myself up, and pressed on through the rain which was just starting to get through to my fur. Even my hood didn't keep my hair dry, which had gone from dark brown to almost completely black, and was dropping over my eyes. I ran across to another edge, where I hoped I would find something to hide under until the rain died away. I was suddenly reluctant of coming out in the first place.

Unfortunately, it took me a while to find a building that had anything on it that could be used as a rain cover. In fact, it took about an hour, and about three blocks to reach an actual rain cover. Unfortunately, the rain had already left me with damp fur, and had reduced to a small drizzle. The sky was starting to clear up as I pulled the cover over my body.

I waited for another hour before the rain had finally died away, leaving the rooftops partially flooded and wet. It was turning out to be a rotten day so far. I enjoyed the rain, so long as it didn't rain too hard; I loved a nice hot shower even more, but the hard, strong, cold rain wasn't my style.

I swung the rain cover behind me and continued on to the next complex of buildings. After that, I'd head back to the club. Hopefully, I would get a nice hot dinner in me and more...

Before I could even begin to start running again, something had caught my eye. I turned to my right, and looked down at the other buildings. I saw a white figure running and jumping from building to building. I figured that it was another Seeker, but this one was different. This one had a gun slung over his back! Seekers never carried guns, and we don't deliver them; the most we were allowed to carry was a single baton, and the most illegal items we ever delivered were drugs.

I decided to follow this person, and see where he was going. From the build of the person, I could tell that he was most likely a wolf. I also saw what looked like black fur, making him a Black Wolf. This posed a problem; Black Wolves were renowned for being just as dangerous as Bears, or at least an Enforcer. What made me even more nervous was the fact that he was carrying what looked like a rifle. Black Wolves were dangerous enough without such a weapon.

I took a long jump off of the edge, tucking into a ball, and rolling softly on the other building. I was just three buildings away from him, though the Wolf still managed to hear me. He turned around and drew his rifle just after I managed to get up and hide behind a nearby vent shaft, trying to make as little noise as possible. I drew my baton slowly just incase the Seeker got too close. That way, his rifle would be of no use up close, and I would just knock him out; not kill him.

I slowly and silently breathed in and out, counting to five in my head. At five, I would take a peek around the corner to see if the Seeker had continued on his way. Unfortunately, once I poked my head out, he wasn't there; no one was there. I ducked my head back, only to see two deep blue eyes staring directly into mine. It was the Seeker, but he looked surprisingly calm. He lifted me up by my collar and pressed me against the vent shaft.

"You're not very good at this." The Wolf whispered, looking directly into my eyes. "Not bad for a kid, though."

I suddenly realized who this person was. He looked similar to the Wolf that I saw down in the main hall yesterday morning. I decided to ask the Wolf a few things, and hopefully find out what he was doing, why he was carrying a rifle with him, and who he was.

"I see you're carrying the heat." I said casually, indicating his rifle. "I probably shouldn't ask why, but I might just take a risk there and-."

"It's my business." The Wolf retorted. "Besides, I...found it during my delivery. Besides, what are you doing here?"

"It's my day off." I answered, looking up into the grey sky. "I figured that I should keep active. Besides, there's little to do in the club; at least, during the day."

The Wolf let me go and walked away, not even saying goodbye, but ending the conversation so suddenly. He certainly didn't make a good first impression. He seemed too...suspicious and mysterious at the same time.

"Don't say goodbye or anything." I called out rhetorically. "Can I ask who you are, or would that be a little nosy?"

"The name's Enhime." The Wolf called back, not turning around. "Just a quick reminder, nothing will happen between us."

At that, the Wolf jumped off the edge of the building, and onto the other side. I stayed there, watching him fade into the distance. The rain had completely gone away now, and the sun was just breaking through the clouds, eliminating all of the grey that colored the city. It was one of those sights that made you say what a beautiful day it was, and kick yourself for thinking such a clichéd thought.

I sighed and dismissed the thought completely. I reached inside my jumpsuit and pulled out a small notebook that was completely dry, even though the rain had went through my jumpsuit. Inside was a list of names; the names of all the Seekers that I had met during my life. Crosses were next to ones that were deceased and R's next to ones that have retired.

There were a few famous figures amongst the list, such as The Grey Dragon, who was deceased; often liked to jump between the tallest and farthest buildings, which surprisingly wasn't how he died. Apparently, he drank too much alcohol in one night and died of alcohol poisoning; Surprising, for a Dragon.

I also found four grouped names; Blood, Bane, Fang and Claw; four Foxes with one similarity. They all had completely red fur, almost blood red. Unfortunately, all four of them had been poisoned by the other. No one knew why, or maybe I didn't ask much about them.

I pulled out a small pen and found the next blank page in the small notebook and wrote down a name carefully;

Enhime; Black Wolf.

I sighed and closed the notebook, placing it back in my jumpsuit. I was just about to set off once I got a call. The phone vibrated through my entire left leg, making me stagger a bit as I walked. I pulled the phone out and checked as to who it was from. It was The Administrator. I answered immediately and put the phone up to my ear.

"Yes, sir." I said obediently. "What is it?"

"You need to come back to the club as soon as possible." The Administrator said coolly. "Something has happened, and you're the only one that I can spare at the moment."

I immediately hung up and started running again. If The Administrator says that something has happened, then it's bound to be either urgent or bad.

Either way, I was reluctant to do so...
