Xenocide Ch1 Greenlight
Introductions to the team of enhanced humans who will eventually save the world from a 5 year invasion of the Earth, or die trying.
The table was occupied by several Generals, all of varying rank and age, and all wearing the same stern, disapproving look. All save for one, who seemed both desperate and irritated. “I don't hear any other suggestions, sirs." Spoke the lowest ranked general. “You can call them kids, you can call them loose cannons, but the truth is we have NOTHING left. All branches of the military have been routed, of ALL militaries. There is no one coming to save us, so we have to save ourselves. These individuals are our best shot, unless you think General McKinzie has some sort of magic bullet that's going to zip around, killing all the aliens."
The oldest general there, Thomson, sat up straighter in his seat and sighed. “maybe you have a point or maybe you just lost it, General Smith. Either way, we are not going to decide anything, until everyone is here to discuss it. Whether or not McKinzie has the solution, we are waiting for-“
“Sirs! Excuse the interruption, but we just received word on the coms, McKinzie's unit got hit sir, hard. We did a vitals sweep with one of our drones, no humans detected. They are all presumed KIA sir." The soldier saluted before taking a moment to catch his breath.
“Well Smith, looks like McKinzie won't be joining us. Wish I could say this was tragic news, but these days it's just news." This general had no hair, and a scar over his left eye, one of the few men to escape the enemy labs, general Tailor. “Without McKinzie we have ourselves a full roster… so lets hear your damn proposal, and there better be more than that damned Project Chimera."
“With all do respect sir, Project Chimera has done everything asked of him thus far."
“Be that as it may, he's no one man army, and he doesn't follow one damned order you give him. If you told him to breathe he'd stop just to spite you!"
“With all do respect sir, he follows MY orders. I think he just doesn't like you. And those orders he didn't follow? Saved your son's life… regardless, we have had several new projects that have all shown great promise." Smith walked over to the projector's computer and inserted a flash drive. A few clicks later and a film began playing:
'Top Level Clearance Required, Negligent viewing will be considered an act of treason'
Project Kushtaka
Project Summery: Kushtaka (named so after an Alaskan myth) is the ultimate feat in animal training and genetic modification. By taking a Giant River Otter and enhancing it's physical and mental capabilites, we have created a super intelligent scout that can transverse the land and sea without being detected by the enemy. To them he is no more than an animal not worth wasting a shot on, entire bases have been infiltrated and subdued simply because they ignored this creature.
Progress: Failure- Project Kushtaka must be bribed into preforming his tasks with reflective objects, even getting his attention is strenuous, without the proper motivation Project Kushtaka is useless and even a hazard to himself and others. Recommend finding a new, more compliant species.
Project Fallout
Project Summery: Project Fallout is the answer to a nuclear warzone, capable of absorbing and redirecting thermal energy and Radiation Project Fallout can survive almost any battlefield condition. The energy absorbed by the subject allows him to empower his own body, making him stronger, faster, enhancing chemical processes, allowing him to process information at a faster rate, allowing his skin and organs to withstand greater stress. He is the ultimate frontline soldier.
Progress: Failure- The subject can indeed absorb and use the energy generated by a weapon of mass destruction, but the output of that energy is severely lower than we had hoped to achieve due to loss during conversion. Against a nuclear super-power this would still be viable, however this project seems to have come into fruition during the wrong war.
Project Hermes
Project Summery: Project Hermes uses several above top level clearance chemicals to trigger a vastly enhanced processing speed of the subjects brain and reflexes. In short it makes the subject faster. In theory the applications of such an enhancement are endless. Project Hermes is in essence the crown jewel of our efforts and is the best battle ready response we have.
Progress: Failure Project Hermes is no where near as fast as we had hoped he would be, only about ten times more efficient than the average soldier, far less improvement than we had hoped with the cost to our resources. What's more, an unforeseen side effect of the process has increased Project Hermes's needed calorie intake. As with everything it improved, project Hermes now requires ten times the calories to function. Current ration sits at 80,000 calories a day
Smith moved to turn off the projector before Tailor stopped him. “Nope, let all the new faces see the last slide. You wanted to present your progress? Let's present your progress."
“I don't see a reason to show off a failure I don't intend to utilize." Smith grit his teeth, but did not show it.
“Ohh no Smith, if we agree to send in ANY of your freaks, then we send them all in. Now I may not like Project Chimera, but he is the definition of a living weapon, while he may not be useful by himself, on a team he's a distraction at his worst and a meat shield at best. That Project is the closest thing to a success you have, I just wish the only survivor wasn't some arrogant punk with an opinion." Tailor smirked as the screen continued to transition.
Project Chimera
Project Summery: Project Leader General Smith reporting, This is our first attempt at modifying the human machine into an engine of xenocide that will restore our planet to the prosperous place it was before the invasion. We are going to tap into the limitless potential of our volunteers'' DNA and allow them to change their bodies physical and chemical structure, the ultimate super soldier if all goes according to plan.
Progress: Catastrophic Failure- Of the three hundred subjects only one survived, the Project has been renamed Chimera… The subject was able to absorb the altered DNA of his fellow volunteers after they died to enhance his own abilities further. Project Chimera is functionally a success, but the process is too disastrous to repeat, and the sole survivor, now named Project Chimera on file, has developed a God Complex. He no longer views humanity as a whole, but as those he wants to save and those he doesn't. Disciplinary action taken against Chimer are quickly adapted to and rendered useless for future use. Still he is a weapon, while we may not be able to control him, we can aim him and stay out of the way, recommend further projects to compensate for Project Chimera's slack.
Thomson sighed and looked back to Tailor. “Do we really have nothing else? Are these laboratory failures the best we have?"
Tailor looked around the table, some people were shaken, some looked defeated, only Smith wore an expression of hope. Tailor glared at him before looking back to Thomson. “Yes sir. Operation Xenocide is our best option…"
“Then without any other choice, I'm green lighting the operation. Godspeed general Smith, bring our world back to it's glory days, or die trying." Thomson said with a sigh. He and the other Generals stood up, some shaking their heads, some still stunned by some of the footage they had seen. Smith sighed and began packing up his equipment. Unlike the others he relied only on his own feet for transportation if he could help it, and it wasn't that far of a hike to his quarters/base. He sighed and looked up when he heard someone clear their throat.
“For the last time Tailor, no. I am not going to attempt to use the Chimera Process to give a megalomaniac like you the powers of Project Chimera. Between the two of you I'd much prefer his complex issues to throwing gasoline on a forest fire by giving you the same thing."
Tailor chuckled. “Ohh, no, no I wasn't planning on asking or even demanding that… no I want to let you know that if you screw this up, I'll put you and those freaks in the ground." Tailor put his hat on and chuckled again before seeing himself out.
Once alone, Smith pulled out a cellphone. The aliens hadn't bothered to silence them yet, but without service providers they were no longer being monitored, the perfect way to keep in touch secretly. He dialed a Number and waited, before yelling at the device. “What the hell Chimera! I know you are the one behind the general's death, Explain yourself!"
---one hour prior, several miles away---
Chimera sat no more than three strides away from the alien squad, their exoskeleton shining in the light of the setting sun. They had Two arms that ended in mantid like scythes, two more human like arms in the same position as humans, and two small arms that ended in pincers sprouting from their torso's front. They had two segmented legs, large lidless eyes with slit shaped pupils that retracted into their heads via an eye-stalk instead of blinking. They were colored a dark blue and wore black uniforms, holding some sort of weapons that looked like they were made of glass but pulsed with what looked like lightning. Chimera smirked and prepared to come out of his camouflage, his bone blade sliding from his forearm just above his wrist, a three foot blade hidden in his arm in segments. Before he could, a jeep began to drive up. Chimera stopped, if the enemy had intended to kill them they would have before the jeep came to a stop, they hadn't. McKinzie stepped out of the jeep and walked up to the captain of the enemy, offering the creature a handshake. The beast made it's shrimp looking face smile in a disgusting manner, Chimera made a mental note of the creature's build and face, he would cut that 'smile' off the alien's face someday. But there was another head that needed to be parted from it's shoulders today… the general and alien chatted back and forth, the general was sharing valuable details about the Xenocide Operation with the alien and how he had been keeping it from going forward for nearly two years now… he wouldn't be a thorn in the team's side for much longer.
As the Aliens walked away Chimera held up his left hand and shot a bone dart at the jeep's tire, making it deflate rapidly, then he made his move. He wasn't as fast as Hermes or a charged Fallout, but he was certainly faster than the average soldier. He rushed through Mckinzie's men hacking them to pieces before the General could turn around. “Damnit corporal how do you find the only damn nail in the forest?!" he said before seeing the remains of his unit, and a very blood Chimera, the young man seemed normal enough, save for the blade dripping with the blood of McKinzie's men. McKinzie was about to beg for his life but Chimera didn't give him the chance, the General's head was soon rolling down hill. Chimera stepped past the twitching body and kneelt by the tire, removing his bone dart from it. No evidence, that was the way Chimera operated.
The aliens ran back up to the jeep, having seen the general's head rolling towards them, but by the time they ran up to the grisly sight, Chimera was nowhere to be seen. After a few minutes, and a few miles, Chimera's phone began to ring. He chuckled to himself when he saw Smith's name pop up, and answered it. “We're good to go right?"
“What the hell Chimera?! I know you are the one behind the general's death. Explain yourself!" Smith sounded pissed, but that wasn't anything new.
“You're welcome. McKinzie was consorting with the enemy, now his head is consorting with gravity and dirt. He was the only thing keeping us from operating freely, now he couldn't stop a fly if he wanted to. So again, You are welcome… don't make me sing the damn song. I'll do it." Chimera chuckled as Smith hung up. “Finally, we up and running. Only a matter of time before we reclaim this planet now…" He dialed Hermes's number and smirked. “Heads up, Operation Xenocide just got approved."
