The fighter's displays were in Canid, but Mike keyed the sequence exactly as Ashley had instructed, activating Molly's translation program which now made everything display in english. From there his training took over. He closed and pressurized the cockpit, as he ran through the startup sequence, then once the engines fired up he eased into the throttles, taxiing to allign with the large fighter-bay doors, then strapped on his mask, and punched it up to full afterburner, immediately regretting it as the intense g-force of accelerating so quickly to takeoff velocity pressed him back in his seat like a ton of bricks.
Once clear of the fighter bay he reduced the throttles to half, and made comms contact with the combat patrol before heading for the Jackson.

"Erika inform the earthships a' the plan discretely." Maya said.

Maya pushed a button on her chair. "Launch all fighters, deploy the tanker. Advise squadron leaders maintain minimal power." she released the button.

Tension in the air on Excalibur's bridge was thick enough to cut with a knife, as the minutes ticked down. It was uneventful, but that was the problem. sitting and waiting for something to happen...the apprehension...it made those minutes feel like hours. In a short time, there would be a battle, with one of the most notorious Xian captains, but now everyone could only sit at their stations, contemplating what was to come. Maya carried May to one of the observation chairs which were usually empty, and then she used the time to meditate, clearing her mind to focus on the task at hand. To do so with all the noise of talking on the bridge was always difficult, but tuning it all out was part of the challenge.

The ship shook like an earthquake as the massive 80" guns thundered to life. The force of the recoil forced Kayla to increase sub-light throttle to compensate.
The first salvo struck the Xian ship dead on, punching clean through the ventral hull before they got their shields up.
"Weapons free." Maya said on comms. "All ships fahr at will." then "Erika open a channel t' the Xians."

They all watched the missiles streak toward the Xian ship. Maya's plan of course was to strike the fromt of the ship at the same moment The Lee's missiles hit the stern, and hopefully the concussive wave would compress their shields to the point of failure.
Excalibur shook hard as Xian weapons fire hit home.
"Shields down to ninety percent." Callie said. "Firming up now."
"Evasive Maya 3 delta." Maya shouted "Forward autocannons fahr on any shield impacts."
At that instant both salvos of nuclear missiles detonated with a brilliant flash.
The Jackson fired their main cannon at that moment as well.
The blinding light and colorful explosions made it impossible to see and the radiation kept sensors blinded for what felt like an eternity. then eventually Molly reported "Target remains. Their shields are down. but the ship is intact."
"Not fer long." Maya said. "Karen, lock on t' the coolin' system fer their engines, an' beam it out."

""we'll test it in battle." Maya said. "Get it done."
"We have it Admiral." Karen replied.
The Xian ship exploded an instant later.
"Damage reports coming in." Callie said. "Minimal damage, no significant injuries."

"All ships stand down from red alert, set condition green, an' make ready t' beam over fer the Estrus Festival." she said. "Erika an' Mike's weddin will take place after that."
The main window/viewscreen lit up showing the bridge of both earthships in a splitscreen.
