Chapter 13: A Suprise for Sunset

It had been about 2 weeks since Sunset was released from the hospital. Lacyus had to stay in to undergo the final surgery and tuning of his new cybernetic arm and eye. And every day, without fail, Sunset always managed to spend at least an hour every day visiting Lacyus. I had visited Lacyus several times, though not as often as Sunset. During one of my visits, Lacyus told me something about Sunset that I had never even considered, even 14 years before, when Lacyus brought her home from the cave she camped out in. Armed with this information, Lacyus, Skyve, Rykuu, Nephilla, Ennica, Echelon, Sunset's family and I set out to surprise Sunset with something beyond her wildest dreams.
I caught Skyve's hand as he nearly fell off the third floor balcony in the Grand Room of my house. "Gotcha!" I pulled him back up. "You okay honey?"

Skyve and I jumped off the third floor and glided to the ground, landing softly. He wrapped a wing-arm around me. "You really are something Mira, to plan all of this for just one person."
"Not just one. Two." I said smiling fondly. "But one deserves this more than anything else in this world."
There was a clattering as Azura and Kuicyas rolled in two carts full of empty glass bottles and battered pots and pans.
Azura panted slightly. "As requested, every bottle and old kitchenware from the restaurant."
I smiled in gratitude. "Thanks you two. I'll take it from here."
And with that I stepped out of Skyve's embrace, clapped my hands together, then put my palms towards the carts. There were pops and cracks as the glass broke and the pots were ripped into raw materials. I closed my eyes and envisioned a grand chandelier hanging off of the drape-suspended ring. Immediately, the materials responded. Broken glass formed into elegant crystals and tarnished pots warped into shiny brass fixtures. I held my concentration for about 30 seconds or so, until the chandelier was finished.
I opened my eyes and inspected the chandelier. "Well, that wasn't too hard." I checked the clock hanging on the wall. "1:34. 3 hours until Lacyus brings our birthday girl by."

"Thanks for lunch honey." Sunset smiled, kissing me. "I'm buying next time."

Unlike human cities, where alleys were places of seedy transactions and questionable people, alleyways in Xenomophic cities were simply there for shortcuts and to create space between buildings. There was a skittering of claws on stone as Ruuk, with Uura and Thaad riding on his back, skidded across the floor as they rounded a corner.
