Lament of the Moon S&H - Ch.08: Dancing no Bara - Ep18
#18 of LoM 08
"Hazard!" Rinami cried out when she saw that the wolf was in danger and let her guard down for a split second.
"Rinami, watch out!" Panja shouted out for her, but he was a bit too late when the Demoberus thrashed its tail at her and knocked her off of her feet some meters away.
"Ah...Oww... damn it..." Rinami groaned after rolling a couple of times on the ground from that rough tail bat, trembling a bit as she tried to get up, but much to her dismay, she found herself surrounded by multiple Shadeppets, ready to finish her off.
"Rina!" Hazard yelled out for the fox in despair, but he was in rough spot himself, having to fend off both of Megalo and Onyx at the same time.
"I won't let you!" Panja dashed to Rinami's aid, only to find the Demoberus standing on his way, growling menacingly, but Panja shut him up by jumping high and then landing on his noggin, stomping it hard into the ground, then bouncing off of it and landing with a hefty thud by Rinami's side. Before the Shadepettes had a chance to react, the white lion did some crushing blows with his fists and legs, demolishing them to nothingness. Rinami was left staring at Panja in amazement at his awesome rescuing interference, as he turned around to face her. "You're important to Haz. That's a good enough reason for me. I'll protect you with every bit of strength I have," Panja said, flexing his strapping arm and showing his bulging biceps muscles.
"Panja..." Rinami uttered in awe, touched by what the strong white lion said and did.
He then helped her up to her feet. "I guess that makes us even, huh?" Panja grinned.
"I guess so," the vixen smiled back. A huge shadow then loomed over the back of Panja and Rinami's eyes widened, grabbing the lion's arm and pulling him out of the way before the Demoberus' jaws chomped down on him, saving him from being demon food
"Whoa! Goddammit! Now I owe you one again!" Panja griped.
"Let's save the score for later! We got a bigger problem to deal with!" Rinami replied, and she meant it literally, as they faced the Demoberus and a good number of the remaining Shadepetts. The Demoberus was snarling threateningly at them and was about to leap for the kill, when a sudden charge of red electricity zapped him directly at his snout horn, making him screech in agony and back off a few steps.
"That was... Sassy!" Panja gaped in a surprise and looked over to where the electrical attack came from, and sure enough, saw Sasuga standing at one end of the ring, her right hand extended forward with some sparks generated around her hand.
"Sasuga...? She did that?" Rinami wondered in shock, surprised by the kirin special power.
"Sorry for running late, guys..." Sasuga panted, apparently a tad worn out from all the running and healing she had to do before getting here.
"What the hell?! It's that kirin!" Megalo crossly said, a bit distracted by Sasuga's sudden appearance. Hazard took this chance and lured Onyx to throw another punch at him from behind, and right before it hit him, he hopped out of the way and over Megalo's head, and the chameleon smacked the panther on the face with his stretched fist instead. "Ouff! What the fuck are you doing, you fucking brainless idiot!?"
"Oops! S-Sorry, Meggy! Onyx didn't mean it, swear!" Onyx panicked.
"Shut your fucking mouth and just get that kirin bitch, you retarded freak! I'll take care of the Slasher!" Megalo snarled furiously at the reptile, and Onyx nodded timidly and disappeared in the closest shadow.
"Be careful, Sasuga! He's coming for you!" Hazard warned the kirin, but found the tips black panther's claws in front of his face.
"Don't you have something more important to worry about here?" Megalo leered, wiping the blood running down his nose from that punched her received from Onyx with his tongue and licking it. Hazard glared back at him, this battle prolonged too far and he needed to end it soon. If only he had his trusty sword, though.
Sasuga found herself in a more dangerous situation, looking around her fretfully and wondering where and which shadow would Onyx show up from. She had her right hand held up in front of her, prepared to shoot him with an electrical bolt the second she sees him.
"Here I am!" Onyx's head appeared suddenly from a shadow shed by a wooden crate and she immediately threw a charge at him, but missed when he dove back into the shadow quickly, breaking the crate instead. "Boo! You missed!" the chameleon mocked her as he showed up again in another shadow on the left and she shot him another time, but he disappeared in the last second and she missed hitting him again.
"Shit!" Sasuga cursed in frustration. Onyx's was testing her nerve and she was losing her focus, shifting her sight left and right nervously, waiting for him to pop up. What she didn't expect, though, was his tail coming out from her own shadow and wrapping around her ankles, pulling them off and causing her to fall on her back with a yelp. The second she opened her eyes and realized what happened, she was lying on her back on the ground with Onyx pinning her down on top of her, his long flexible tail wrapping around her wrists and restraining her hands against each other, preventing her from being able to aim and zap at him.
"I got you now, you scaly wench! I win this time! I win!" Onyx snickered.
"Let go of her you fuckface!" Panja yelled out.
"No! I'll make you pay for hurting me before!" Onyx hissed and clutched her neck with both of his hands, squeezing on it and trying to choke her. Sasuga gasped and squirmed, trying to wrestle him off, but she couldn't and his grip around her throat was tightening. "Heeeheee... yesssss... I'm gonna kill you, like how I killed that pussy cat friend of yours!" Onyx then informed the kirin, revealing himself as Kyle's killer, as she stared back at him with stunned eyes. "No treat of my puppies can get away and live to tell about it! The look on his face... it was priceless!" the chameleon continued and sniggered, enjoying torturing his victim.
Something inside Sasuga snapped. Never before in her life did she feel this much anguish and anger inside of her. To have Kyle's innocent life be wasted by this ruthless monster; she wanted to make him pay more than anything right now. She was boiling like mad and she couldn't hold it in much longer.
"You... You... FUCKING BASTARD!" Sasuga cried at the top of her lungs despite having Onyx's hands clutching her neck, and then with all her strength in her hoof, kicked him hard right between his legs.
"OOOUUUGHHH!!!" Onyx groaned out loud in sheer and utter agony when he was kicked square in the groin, letting go of the kirin's neck and hands, holding his crotch while wailing in pain. That wasn't punishing enough for Sasuga, though, as she got a firm hold of his head, and without a second thought, head-butt him forcefully with her unihorn forehead, and to top it all off, her uinhorn unleashed a powerful electrical charge that shocked him to the core. "GRRRRAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!" Onyx screamed out as he was electrocuted through his skull until Sasuga finally let go and he dropped over on his back in a twitchy, fried and stiff state, totally out cold. Everyone present saw that shocking lightening display, all equally staggered.
"Ouch... that gotta hurt," Hazard winced.
"Way to go, Sasuga!" Rinami cheered her on.
"That useless incompetent fuckhead!" Megalo scowled, extremely infuriated by Onyx's defeat.
"Speak for yourself. You're not doing any better," Hazard provoked the panther again.
"Argh! I hate you SO FUCKING much!" Megalo growled angrily and aimlessly charged at Hazard. The wolf jumped out of his way and flew over to the circus seating ring as Megalo followed him to continue the battle there. Little did Megalo know, was that Hazard had a motive for switching the battleground, but he waited for the right moment to execute it.
As for Sasuga, she got up on her feet, breathing heavily and her heart was racing. She never felt that kind of adrenaline rush before, and for the most part, it felt damn good. She looked down at the twitching body of Onyx on the ground, smoke still coming out of him from that intense shock treatment.
"Bastard!" Sasuga grudgingly gave him a rough kick on his side, which she didn't get much of a reaction from. She didn't know if he was dying or not, but at this point she didn't care. She needed to help her friends. She took a step forward but she felt dizzy all of the sudden and crouched down on her knees. Releasing that amount of her power must've taken a toll on her, especially since she used a lot of it to heal Mr. Osvaldo. "D-Damn... my head..." Sasuga mumbled weakly. It was like that time when she passed out after defeating the Skulled Demon with Seif, but she couldn't afford to fall unconscious now.
The matter got worse when a couple of Shadeppets appeared next to her, putting her in grave danger since she didn't have enough power to fight them off. They didn't get the chance to harm her, though, as Rinami swiftly came to her rescue and finished them off with some quick slashes with her shuriken knife.
"Are you all right?" Rinami helped the kirin up, hanging her arm over the fox's shoulders.
"Y-Yes... thanks, Rinami," Sasuga answered, smiling.
"It's okay. You'd do the same to me, right?" Rinami smiled back and the kirin nodded back. The ground trembled underneath their feet suddenly and they saw the Demoberus stampeding at their direction. That was when Panja arrived and stood between them and the charging beast.
"Come on, you fucking cow, it's just you and me here!" Panja bumped his fists together and psyched himself up, reaching his thick arms forward and preparing to confront the Demob erus.
"Panja! Don't!" Sasuga cried, fearing for the white lion's safety.
"Don't worry, Sassy! I got this!" Panja retorted and waited for the colliding moment. The Demoberus rammed hard into the lion and Panja blocked his way with all his brawny strength, his hands clutching on the monster's horns and doing his best to push him away. It was an extraordinary display of raw physical power, as the 12-feet giant demon was huffing and snarling as it pressed on, pushing Panja gradually to the back, his feet digging through the ground. "I...won't... let you... THROUGH!!" Panja growled, his bulging muscles expanding in size and strength, as his beefy arms flexed massively and he began to shove the Demoberus back, much to the astonishment of both the demon and the girls. Panja then got a firm grip of the monster's head, and with a mighty roar, flexed his muscular upper frame further to the point where his muscles tore through the fabric of his red shirt, and used his herculean burly strength to lift the Demoberus's feet off of the ground and incredibly held it up over his head for a few moment. "OUT OF THE WAY!" the powerful white lion growled as both of Sasuga and Rinami got his message and immediately moved as far away, before Panja performed a backdrop move and slammed the giant beast hard on the ground, creating a loud and immense tremor throughout the whole ring.
"What the fuck!? No way!" Megalo exclaimed in disbelief, staggering a bit from the slight earthquake.
"You better believe it, Meggy," Hazard grinned and took this chance to give Megalo a kick on his chest and knocked him over to the back to fall a few steps down the seats ring. The wolf then turned his attention to his friends and called out, "Panja! Total Glacier! Sasuga, Rinami! Out of the ring, Now!"
"Huh? Oh, I got ya! Out of the way, girls, this is gonna be messy!" Panja said.
"Wh-What?" Sasuga blinked, not getting what he meant.
"Let's just do what he says! Come on!" Rinami took Sasuga's hand and ran to the far edge of the ring, jumping up to seating area. Panja found a safe spot himself at the edge of the ring, and then clapped his palms together.
"Here GOES!" Panja shouted and slammed both of his hands on the ground, releasing a huge icy wave across almost the whole ring sphere and freezing everything in range, which included the unrecovered Demoberus and the remaining Shadeppets, trapping them all in an icicle prison.
"Wow..." Rinami uttered in amazement, her blue eyes glittering at the sight of the massive glacier Panja created on his own. Sasuga was equally amazed. She witnessed Panja doing something similar when be rescued her back at that university incident, but not at this incredible magnitude.
"N... No, this can't be..." Megalo stammered as he helplessly watched everything failing before him.
"They're not finished yet! Sas! Use your electrical bolt on the ice! Use everything you've got and let it rip!" Hazard called out.
"Me...?" Sasuga muttered. She wasn't sure if she had any power left in her, but they were counting on her, and she didn't plan to let them down. She searched inside of her, inside of her heart, for every ounce of power, and lifted her right hand up. Without any hesitation, she shot a powerful stream of red electrical energy into the icy glacier and it traveled through all of it like how electricity travel through water, zapping and electrocuting everything inside of it, as the whole arena was filled with loud screeches and shrieks of the Shadeppets and Demoberus. The thundering blast was so strong; it shattered most of the ice and rendered the demons into ashes. All except for the giant Demoberus, who was still thrashing and twitching violently.
"I guess I gotta put the finishing touch. Be right back, Megalo," Hazard said and jumped up high into the air until the Demoberus was right under him. He lifted his sword over his head, and like a lightening bolt, dropped down with a clean cut, slicing the beast's head in two and killing him off for good, exploding into a thick cloud of demon dust.
"Slasher... you... I... I... I WON'T LOSE TO YOU!" Megalo growled in desperation and sprang at the wolf in blind rage, slashing his claws at him from behind. Without turning around to face him, Hazard evaded his attack, whirling nimbly as Megalo completely missed him, and was now standing directly behind the black panther. With a fast slash of his sword, Hazard delivered a cut on Megalo's back, causing him to grunt out in pain and lurch onward to slump on his knees. "Urrgh! F... F-Fuck!" Megalo choked through his teeth, trying to get back up but stopped when he felt the tip of Hazard's sword on the back of his head.
"It's over, Megalo. You're lucky this sword isn't sharp enough, or else you'd be in two pieces now," Hazard said as he held the panther in his place, aiming his sword over Megalo's head.
"Shut the fuck up! I don't need your fucking lecture or sympathy!"
"I take you're not going to tell me what do you want and who do you work for, right? You're in no place to act tough, so you better spill some details."
"Or else what? Kill me? Hah! I welcome that! I rather die than give you the satisfaction!" Megalo sneered, but then felt a sharp stingy pain on his back when Hazard stomped on his wound with his foot and made him bend down on the ground further. "Argh! You fucking-!"
"Shut your filthy maw and listen well, Meggy," Hazard silenced him. "Among all of the warriors and adversaries I've faced throughout my long life, you are the weakest. You're pathetic, so don't even try to dream about defeating me, because you never will," Hazard continued to demean Megalo, leaving him gaping and lost for words, totally mortified and gnashing his fangs in deep resentment. "Lucky for you, you won't have to suffer through this cycle of failures anymore, because I'm gonna grant you your wish," Hazard said in a cold tone, raising his blade up and ready to drop it down on Megalo's neck, execution style. The black panther felt the blood freeze up inside his body and he couldn't move a muscle, expecting the release of death any moment now. Even Sasuga couldn't bear to witness this, pressing herself against Panja's side and covering her eyes. "See you in hell, Megalo. Sit tight, it might be a long wait down there," Hazard uttered and was about to swing his sword, when a flash grenade fell from out of nowhere right next to him and blew up with a very bright flash, blinding everyone in the scene for a few seconds.
"What the hell!?" Panja cringed as he covered his eyes with his arm, unable to see what was going on, as did the others, until the bright light dimmed and their visions returned. To their surprise, Megalo had vanished, and upon further inspection, so had Onyx.
"Whe... Where'd they go?" Sasuga gasped.
"Someone must've helped them out of here... they were fast, I didn't see or sense anyone," Rinami stated.
"Dammit! They always do that!" Panja said in aggravation, kicking off the ground.
Hazard stood silently in his place, staring down at where Megalo was kneeling, a rather solemn expression on his face. Sasuga remembered that look. It was the same he had when he rescued her from the Butcher serial killer, when Hazard was about to kill him, but changed his mind in the last minute. It was kind of a daunting. It made her feel that there were still parts of Hazard she didn't get to know yet. He was so prepared to kill Megalo, without a single shred of a doubt, without any wavering, maybe even without remorse. Sure, she wanted to make Onyx pay and she hurt him bad, but she didn't think she was willing to kill someone. She wondered if she would have to when the time would come. Would she be able to do it?
"Hazard!" Rinami cried in joy as she ran over to the wolf and threw herself at his arms, snapping Sasuga out of her deep thoughts and bringing her back to the present, as she noticed that Panja was heading over to the wolf as well and she decided to join them.
"We did it, Hazzy!" Panja exclaimed elatedly, patting the wolf's back.
"Yeah. You did great, guys. And with minimum casualties too. Well, save for your shirt, Panja," Hazard smirked, pointing out at Panja's shredded shirt.
"Oh yes! You guys were amazing! I didn't imagine you to be this strong, Panja! The way you wrestled that big demon and picked him up like that! Wow! You'd make a great muscleman in the circus!" Rinami remarked excitedly, admiring the white lion's exposed buff upper body.
"Heh! Damn right I would!" Panja smugly leered, flexing his strapping muscles proudly. "You're not too shabby yourself, Rinami! I haven't seen anyone move and kick this much ass so fast!"
"Oh, stop it, you're making me all red!" the fox blushed bashfully. "Oh, and Sasuga! You sure taught that lizard creep a lesson! Now he'd think twice before messing with you! Your electrical powers are extraordinary!" she then praised the kirin.
"Y-Yeah, I'm just glad everyone's okay. Sorry I wasn't here from the start. I had to help Mr. Osvaldo," Sasuga mentioned and Rinami's gasped.
"Antonio!? What happened to him!? Is he hurt!?"
"Oh, yeah, yeah! He's fine now. I think they took him to the hospital for further treatment. I managed to heal him enough just in time..."
"Heal? You can heal too?!"
"Umm, yeah...though, I still haven't mastered it yet," Sasuga replied timidly, and then Rinami hugged her tight.
"You never cease to amaze me, Sasuga! Thank you for saving Antonio!" Rinami gratefully said as she hugged the coy kirin.
"Uhh, it's... it's okay, Rinami. I did what anyone else would've done in my place," Sasuga muttered, blushing slightly as the fox was pressing snuggly into her chest.
"As much as I'm enjoying how you're all bonding nicely now, we need to get out of here fast. I'm sure the cops would be here any minute now and it would be best if we don't get involved," Hazard then said.
"Oh, you're right. Well, you three better get going. I'm going to stay and deal with everything else," Rinami said.
"Are you sure? Why don't you just come with us?" Sasuga suggested.
"I'd love to, but not now. I have to explain things to the circus group and bid them a proper farewell. I can't just leave like this. Plus, I gotta visit Antonio and check up on him to see if he's okay!"
"Heh, still have to take care of everyone, eh? Haven't changed a bit, Rina," Hazard chuckled.
"Of course! And neither have you! Oh my, you're such an incredible swordsman, Hazard! Just like how you said you would be! Watching you fight like that got my heart racing!" Rinami wistfully said, admiring her golden wolf and hugging him closely again. "I'm so glad you came tonight, Hazard. I don't know what would've happened if you didn't," the vixen then softly cooed and planted a tender smooch on Hazard's lips, bringing a soft blush on his cheeks. He would've liked to return the kiss had he had the privacy.
Sasuga blushed a bit herself when she watched them kiss softly like that, but her eyes quickly shifted to Panja to see his reaction, expecting him to get upset and bitter, but instead, she saw that he was shying his sight away, with a sullen, more saddened look on his face. She wondered if Panja was starting to accept the reality. A reality that would result in closure, and sadness. Either way, now wasn't the time to delve into this love triangle, so the three of them left the circus with Rinami behind to tie some loose ends while they headed back home for a much deserved rest. That was one circus show none of them would surely forget.
To be continued...
