In My Wildest Dreams, Part 13 Showdown With The Shorthair, This Time It's Fursonal
#13 of In My Wildest Dreams
I woke on the most important day of my young life, with my lover in my arms. I had thought I would have a hard time sleeping because of the excitement, but our mating and then just being close to Gordon all night kept me at peace.
We went to the IHOP for breakfast at 6:00 AM. I got a tall stack of buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, two eggs and some sausage patties. The whole "Pack" got the same thing, assuming I would know what would be the best thing to eat before a big meet. I wanted to makes sure I had lots of energy so I packed in the carbs and I figured the sausage and eggs would stay with me a little more long term. The meet was supposed to start at 9:00 AM which would give us a couple of hours to digest our food. We went back to our rooms, packed up and checked out of the Motel.
We got to the track at 7:30 and found a good spot under the bleachers. We had brought blankets to lay on between events. When they announced "First Call Two Mile Relay" we started warming up for the two mile relay, which is always the first race of a meet. I was going to run in the relay, replacing Ron and running the anchor leg. It was going to be the first time I ran a half mile in a race all year and I was a little nervous. We shuffled around the order of the relay. Jimmy was running the lead off leg; Chuck was running the second leg, followed by Gordon who would pass the baton to me to bring it home.
The loud speaker droned, "Last Call Two Mile Relay".
We all gathered on the track and did our group howl! We had a nice long howl before we broke off into the excited yipping. We startled the other teams, and then they didn't know what to make of it. It really seemed to bond us tighter and get the adrenaline going like nothing I have ever felt before.
The race was going to be run with a waterfall start, and you had to run in your lane until right before the curve then you could break to the inside. We were seeded 12th, but that was based on Ron running instead of me. I was anxious to see what I could do in a half. There were 25 teams running so it was going to be crowded, I hoped Jimmy got a good clean break.
I patted Jimmy on the back and said, "Go get 'em."
He just nodded. I looked up to see the Shorthair standing by his coach with a big grin. I could hear him say to his coach, "Good let the little fool wear himself out in the relay, he'll be easy pickings in the two mile then." What an asshole, he was their fastest runner and he wasn't going to run the relay for his team. An extra half mile in the morning won't mean that much in the long run. I mean we both qualified in the mile and the two mile. Last year he was fourth in the mile and won the two mile.
"Runners take your marks."
"Set."
Bang, and they were off. Jimmy got a good start and was in sixth place when they broke to the inside right before the first bend. It was important that Jimmy didn't drop too far behind. Even though Jimmy and I were our fastest runners, our positions on the relay were our teams weak links. A lot of the teams here had one or two top quality half milers that ran either the lead off or anchor legs of the relay, but were weaker at the middle two positions. Our strength was our depth, we had 4 strong runners. We weren't likely to win, but if we ran well we might be able to get a placement. And any placement at state was quite an achievement. Jimmy was running well, and by the homestretch he was running in seventh place. As he sprinted toward the exchange area to pass the baton to Chuck he was out sprinted by another runner. He was in eighth place when passed the baton to Chuck. He ran a great time of 1:57. They made a nice safe baton pass, and Chuck took off at a good pace. Chuck ran a nice 2:00 and managed to reel in two of the runners ahead of him, but he was passed coming down the homestretch by another runner. So Gordon received the baton in seventh place, and about 2 yards behind the runner ahead of him.
"Gordon, hold on to this guy this lap and give it everything you've got on the last lap." I yelled out to him as Chuck passed him the baton. I watched as he stayed right on the other pup's shoulder through the curve, and as I watched him go down the back stretch, my eyes went past the Shorthair, who returned my gaze with a sneer. I didn't have the time or the interest to get into mind games with the asshole, I was more worried about what Gordon was doing and getting myself ready for my leg. Gordon did just like I told him, as he finished his first lap he was still right on the other pups shoulder. He slowly passed the pup in front of him and then started reeling in the next pup in line. He caught up with him at the start of the backstretch and the two of them battled it out before Gordon pulled in front going into the bend. He was now in 5th place and he thundered down the homestretch, to pass me the baton. He had run a 2:00 leg, just like Chuck. I took off and just focused running a good first lap and then giving it all I had on the last lap. I was gaining on the fourth place runner, and that kept me focused. By the back stretch I was pulling up on his shoulder. When he felt me on his shoulder he picked up the pace out of instinct. We ran side by side until we came to the bend and I pulled in front of him and cut to the inside. As I came out of the bend, I focused on the third place runner, who was about 10 yards ahead of me. I ran the first lap in 59 seconds, now it was time to open it up a little more.
I saw the Shorthair pointing at me an laughing as he said to his coach, "I've got the two mile as good as won, he isn't going to have anything left."
I caught up with the third place runner part way through the curve and passed him as we were coming out of it. I picked up the pace even more on the backstretch, focusing on the second place runner, who was 15 yards ahead. I was only 5 yards behind as we came out of the final bend, and I gave it everything I had. He could now see me out of the corner of his eye and he started to sprint. I broke out in my final sprint also. I was slowly reeling him in but I was running out of room. The finish line was coming up too fast, I finished a yard behind him. I had given it all I had with a last lap of 56 seconds, for a split of 1:55. Our time of 7:53 was a new school record. I hadn't thought I could run a half so fast, but what was the cost. Was the Shorthair right? He thought I would be burnt out by the two mile. "The Pack" was crowding around me celebrating. We had never expected a third place in the relay. None of my teammates had ever placed at the state meet before, a third place was outstanding.
"Great time, Adam! Maybe we need to start running you in the open half mile." Coach Bart called out as he picked me up in a bear hug. It was always a thrill to feel his body next to mine, and despite my exhaustion I started to harden.
"Thanks Coach, and don't you even think about it. That race is too fast for me." I was bent over almost double trying to get my breath. I glanced over to see the Shorthair smirking. I hoped I hadn't bitten off more than I could chew. But I was only running a half mile more than he was running. It shouldn't make that much difference.
We got together as a team, Ron included (as the alternate he would get a medal too, he was part of the team) and ran victory/cool down lap. Even though we didn't come in first place, third place at state was very much a "Victory". After we finished our lap we gathered on the infield and did our group howl, while we waited for the medal ceremony.
"Way to go guys. We peaked at the right time; every one of us ran our best time of the year. You guys have a lot to be proud of, your first year out for track and we are third at state!"
"Well it's because of you Adam, you ran the fastest time." Chuck chimed in.
"Bullshit! There are plenty of furs in the state that can run a half faster than I can. We placed because we were a team without a weak link. Even Ron isn't a weak link; we would have still come in third if he would have run for Chuck or Gordon. I'm proud of all of you guys."
"But we wouldn't have even come out for track if it wasn't for you Adam." Added Jimmy.
"Well maybe I can take some credit for motivating you pups." I replied grinning. "And as the Alpha of this pack, I can take some credit for pushing you pups in practice. But you pups put in all the hard work and you are the ones that ran the race. Just don't let it go to your heads, we can all get better. Maybe we can win the district championship in cross country this fall if we all keep working this hard."
At the State Championships, they award medallions for first through eighth place. But the biggest ones are for first, second and third and there is a medal ceremony like in the Olympics. As the third place team, we were the first called to the medal stand, and the five of us mounted the lowest level of the medal stand. When they announced our team, all the furs from United Furs High School that had come to the meet burst out cheering. I think we got the loudest ovation of all the teams, our fans were great! It was such a thrill when they put the Medals around our necks. I was happy for myself, but even happier for the other members of the team, who had never won anything at this level before.
After the medal ceremony we all went over to see the students that had chartered the buses to the meet. Ron was met by Sheila and she gave him a big kiss, I was sure he was going to score tonight.
"Hey Ron, save that for later, you still have the two mile to run!" Chuck jabbed at Ron.
"I think someone is jealous that he doesn't have a hot bitch waiting for him." Ron poked back. I'm sure he was turning red under his black and tan face fur. "But he's right sweetie, I need to stay focused for the race." He added to Sheila.
"I understand. Just remember, I'll be waiting for my big dog after the race." She said as she pulled him close and shamelessly rubbed her body against his. As he pulled away, his arousal was visible.
We found a spot under the bleachers to chill out while we waited for the mile run. We were joined by Joey and Sean as we relaxed under the bleachers. Gordon as always, was on my right side. It was almost a little embarrassing the way he looked at me with such adoration and hero worship. The rest of the pack looked up to me too, so it wasn't so noticeable. The funny thing was, even though Joey was a year older than me, he seemed to look up to me almost as much as Gordon. He hung on my every word. Sean on the other hand seemed to like me and respect my ability on the track, but he didn't look up to me.
"It looks like Ron is getting ready to enter the three legged race." Chuck jabbed at Ron.
"You're just jealous! You wish you had a hot bitch sucking your dick. I bet we go all the way tonight." Ron said proudly.
"I'm surprised you guys don't have to chase the bitches away. I get all the bitches I can handle. I'm the top jock at our school. My dad had to sit me down last year, and have a talk with me. He warned me to always make sure I wear protection, if you get one of the bitches pregnant, it will really screw up your life. He said I would have to quit Sports and get a job after school to help support the pup. He makes sure I have plenty of condoms, I always suit up before dipping the wick. Some of the bitches are really crazy, especially when they are in heat. It feels good and all, but unprotected sex isn't worth screwing your life up for."
"You hear that Ron, play safe. We don't want to lose a valuable "Pack" member to paternity duty." I warned.
"But I don't have any, and I don't think there will be time to stop and get some." Groaned Ron.
"I have one in my wallet that I can give you for tonight. Plus I have a whole box in my cars glove compartment, so I can get one of those before I need it tonight." Joey volunteered. "Us 'Pack' members need to help each other out." He then launched into a few of his sexcapades, and had us laughing our asses off over some of the things the horny bitches tried to do to get bred by him when they were in heat.
"Sean, why didn't you run the Mile at the District Championships? You could have qualified for state in the mile." I asked.
"I didn't want to have to run it here at state; I just wanted to save myself for the two mile. I know I am not good enough to place here in the mile, but if I run a good two mile I can get a placement. I was surprised you are running all three events. I could understand if the two mile was the first event, but it is the last. Aren't you worried that you are going to be burnt out for the two mile.
"Actually I hadn't given it much thought. I qualified in all three events and I have a chance to place in all three events so why not run them all. The Shorthair was fourth in the mile and first in the two mile last year, so I'm sure he will be running both this year too. He should be just as tired as me."
"With as well as you've been running this year do you really think he will be running the mile today?"
"Of course he will, he was the District Champion in his district, just like I won ours. He'll run." I replied incredulously.
"You run so well, I keep forgetting how young and naive you are, cuz. The only thing that matters to him is being the state champion in the two mile, two years in a row. No male pup has ever done that before, he wants to make history. If I were you I would scratch in the mile and save myself for the two mile. Then next year after the Shorthair is gone you can go for the double."
"I qualified in both, I'm running in both. Let's talk about something else." I was starting to worry that I had bitten off more than I could chew.
After a 4 hour rest, we heard the first call for the mile run. The pack all warmed up with Jimmy, Joey and I, and at last call for the mile run we got together for our ritual group howl. What was surprising is that some of our fellow students who had made the trip to cheer us on, joined in. It was only about a dozen, but by the time we broke out in the excited yips I had chills down my spine. The starter called us to the line. I was called to the line as the third seed, and they called the Shorthair's name as the fifth seed.
"Scratched!" His coach called out.
I turned to look and he was sneering at me as he leisurely did some stretching exercises in the infield. I couldn't believe he wasn't running. My emotions which had been almost running wild since the group howl, now froze. The starter continued calling out pups. I looked over at Coach Bart and even he seemed a little concerned. But it was too late to do anything about it now; we were all lined up for the race.
"Runners take your marks." Pause.
"Set." Pause.
Bang
I got a good break from the line and was able to fall in behind the front two runners, a Pointer and a Foxhound, as we went into the first curve. We ran the first lap in 68 seconds, and then picked up the pace to 66 seconds. I was in unexplored territory at this pace. We were pulling away from the pack, yet we continued to pick up the pace. We ran a blistering 63 second third lap, hitting the gun lap at 3:17. The Pointer was in the lead by a yard, followed by the Foxhound and I was right on his outside shoulder. It was anybody's race right now so we all picked up the pace even further. Coming out of the final curve and going into the home stretch, I passed the Foxhound and the Pointer and I came thundering down the home stretch. I was gaining on him but not much. This was my chance to be a state champion and I was going to give it everything I had. The two mile didn't even enter into my thinking. I sprinted faster than I ever had but despite my best effort the Pointer out leaned me at the finish line to win the title. We both finished with a time of 4:18. Again I was so close, but still not a State Champion. The Foxhound was third with a time of 4:20. I was too exhausted to do more than bend over double to try to catch my breath. Coach Bart and Gordon came over to me to congratulate me while Ron and Chuck went to go cheer on Jimmy and Joey. I had never had to fight to catch my breath like this after a race before. I wondered if I was going to be able to recover before the two mile. I couldn't help but to glance over to the Shorthair. He was having a hard time catching his breath because he was laughing so hard while pointing at me. I was REALLY beginning to wonder if maybe I had made a mistake.
Coach Bart held me up while we walked around a little, and after about a minute I was able to catch my breath and walk on my own. The race was already over by then. I hadn't seen how Jimmy and Joey finished. We walked back toward the finish line, and met up with them.
"How did you guys do?" I asked still trying to catch my breath.
"I got Eighth place, Adam!" Jimmy exclaimed ecstatically. "I broke 4:30! Well just barely, it was a 4:29!"
I hugged him, and said. "Outstanding! That's a great time."
"Did you win? I couldn't tell it was so close?"
"No. He beat me by about half a foot." I said dejectedly. "I ran a 4:18 though."
"Damn that's smokin'. But I swear you have the worst luck Adam. That's two times now that you have come within a second of winning a state title."
I had been thinking about that. Was I destined to be a perpetual runner up, but never good enough to be a Champion? I tried to shake that unsettling thought from my mind. "Yeah, it sucks a little to come so close and not win." I was beginning to wonder if I was making my own bad luck through bad choices. Maybe I shouldn't have run the mile. Would I be runner up in the two mile because I burned myself out in the other events? "How did you do Joey?"
"I came in 10th at 4:32. Maybe I should have saved myself for the two mile. I have a better shot of placing there."
"You ran a great time; there will be plenty of time to recuperate before the two mile." I replied, but deep down inside I was wondering the same thing. I glanced over at the Shorthair who was still looking at me with that smug, self-satisfied smirk.
But there wasn't time to think about that dickhead. It was time for the medal ceremony. When they called my name to stand on the second highest platform, there was a thunderous ovation from the crowd. I was proud that all these pups had come to watch me but, I would have traded my silver medal and all the applause for the gold medal they were handing around the Pointers neck. Again I had come within inches of of being a state champion. Was it ever going to happen or had I blown my chance by running the mile. If I had blown it, this silver was going to be VERY bittersweet.
After the ceremony jogged a lap to cool down and went back under the bleachers to get out of the sun.
Sean joined us under the bleachers. "Wow! That was one hell of a mile you ran. It's a shame you didn't win. I just hope you have enough left for the two mile. I'd love to see you smoke that bastard of a Shorthair."
"Please don't start that again. The smug bastard thinks I made a big mistake. Now I'm beginning to wonder too. I've never run the half and the mile that fast before. I hope I can recuperate." I replied to Sean. I rolled up my sweats into a pillow and said. "I'm going to take a nap, could you guys wake me in 2 hours."
"Sure," Gordon replied. And before I knew it I was out like a light.
I usually dream as I'm sure you know, but this time I was so exhausted that I didn't dream or at least didn't remember any of them before Gordon woke me. There were still about 2 hours before the two mile. We shot the shit about everything from fishing to the odds on Ron losing his virginity tonight. But finally the announcer called out through the loudspeaker, "First Call Two Mile Run".
We all got up and made our way back onto the track to warm up. It was then I noticed something that made "The Pack" somewhat unique. We were the only ones there that were warming up as a team. While on other teams runners would warm up together if they were running the same event, all "The Pack" members warmed up together as a group for every event one of the pack was entered in, even if they themselves were not running in the event. We truly were a team in every sense of the word, and I believe we drew strength from it. I watched as the Shorthair warmed up by himself. He seemed as alone as I used to be before "The Pack" started. He was talented and worshiped by his fans, but still so alone. I would have felt sorry for him if he wasn't such a jerk.
The nap seemed to have refreshed my muscles a little. Hopefully that and my battles with Sky Hill would be able to carry the day. We heard "Last Call Two Mile Run" and assembled for our "Group Howl".
To my surprise Gordon took charge and said. "OK pups, this is what we've worked for all year, to help Adam win the State Championship in the Two Mile, and I know he is going to do it. OK on three. One... Two... Three... And we broke out in the howl. Soon the whole student section from United Furs had joined in. My adrenaline was pumping at the max when we finally broke out of the howl in our excited yipping.
As we finished up the Shorthair jogged past on his way to the starting line and commented to us, "How juvenile pups."
Oh, I wanted to beat him so bad. When we got to the starting line, I got another surprise. Bob, the captain of last year's team, was standing on the infield next to Coach Bart. I knew he was here at State U on a Track and Field Scholarship, but I had been too absorbed in what I was doing to think that he might show up. I went over to him quickly.
"Bob, it's great to see you!"
"I wouldn't have missed this for the world. I would have slipped out of practice early if I would have known that you were going to run the mile too. I figured you would save it all for the two mile. I hear you just got edged out in the mile."
"Yeah, I was a bridesmaid again by half a foot."
"I wish I would have been there. Well you go out there and win this and then we can catch up with each other." He said as he gave me a pat on the ass as I headed back on the track.
"Adam, United Furs." The starter called and pointed to the pole position. He called the Shorthair next, followed by the Pointer that had won the mile, Sean and then Joey. Gordon was seeded eleventh so he ended up lining up behind me, in the first position of the second row. Ron was in the back on the outside, having barely qualified. But qualifying at all was quite an accomplishment, especially for a sophomore.
To my surprise the Shorthair turned to me and said, "Don't think that just because you have the best time this year that you are going to win this thing. You've never beaten me before and you never will. I watched the mile; you don't have enough heart to be a champion!"
"Adam, you better kick this coward's ass. If he had any "heart" he would have run in the mile too."
"Oh, it's one of your little ass kissers. They all probably lift their tails for you too."
I was too angry to trust my self with a reply. I think he assumed that this was because I was thoroughly intimidated. Nothing could be further from the truth.
"Runners take your marks." We were interrupted by the starter.
"Set"
Bang! And we were off. I sprinted out to try to take the lead so I wouldn't get boxed in, but the Shorthair managed to take the lead before the first turn. I tucked right in behind him, right off his right shoulder. I decided that as long as he was going to carry a good pace I would draft him and save energy. We both knew I could out kick him, since I had made up so much ground on him at state last fall in Cross Country. We made it through the first lap in 72 seconds; even this early in the race with this many good runners we were starting to string out the pack at this pace. The Shorthair knew the only chance he had was to go out at a good enough pace to either break away or leave me without enough left in the tank to out kick him at the end. I planned on using that knowledge to my advantage. I stayed right on his shoulder and he picked up the pace to 71 seconds for the second lap. Joey and Sean had enough sense not to follow us at that pace, so they just stayed together and ran their race, using each other to pace themselves.
The Pointer on the other hand was trying to keep pace with the Shorthair and I. He was right on the inside of me and slightly behind as we started the third lap. Instead of slowing a little the Shorthair tried to shake me by picking up the pace another second so the three of us motored through the third lap in 70 seconds. By now there was an uneasy murmur running through the crowd. This had been one of the most anticipated match ups of the meet and it wasn't disappointing yet. I was still pushing the Shorthair and the 3 of us pounded out a 69 for the fourth lap, for a mile split of 4:42. To my surprise I was still feeling strong; all the miles I had put were paying off. I pushed the Shorthair harder and the three of us finished the fifth lap in 68 seconds.
"You two are nuts! If you can keep up this pace go for it. But when you two crash and burn from your own stupidity, I'm going to win this race." The Pointer gasped as he slowed down.
But I ratcheted up the pace a little more and the Shorthair fought to stay ahead of me. I could hear him starting to labor, but he wasn't going to let me pass. I thought about the Foxhound and the Doberman from the District Championships. They went out at a suicide pace. Instead of blowing past them and convincing them that they couldn't beat me so they would slow down, I stayed on their shoulder and pushed them until they collapsed. Could I do the same to the Shorthair? I knew if I blew past him right now he wouldn't be able to go with me. But if I kept pushing him, could I get him to collapse? He fought to stay ahead of me as we completed lap 6 in 67 seconds. I picked up the pace and pushed him faster as we started the seventh lap. I was pushing hard, but I was still running within my abilities, where he was rapidly going into oxygen debt. As we came down the backstretch, I started talking to the Shorthair.
"I'm glad you told me I don't have enough heart to be a champion. If I didn't know better, I would think that you were really starting to labor." I taunted.
I picked up the pace even further as we came off the bend. To his credit the Shorthair made a last ditch effort to hold me off, but 15 yards before the start/finish line I shifted gears and blew past him. Bang, went the starter's pistol, to signal the gun lap. I had finished the 7th lap in 65 seconds. The crowd gasped at my bold move, I had the race wrapped up, and I was still going for broke. I was beginning to lap some of the runners. I was sprinting around the track faster than I had ever gone. There was nothing to hold back for; this was the last race of the season. I started down the backstretch, and I could hear the roar of the crowd as I sprinted toward the last bend. I kept the pace around the bend, and then put on a kick as I thundered toward the finish line. I could hear all my school mates howling in the stands and Coaches Bart and Socrates, Bob, Jimmy and Chuck were at the finish line cheering me on.
I hit the tape at 9:03; I threw my fists in the air. I was a State Champion at last. I had missed the state record by 5 seconds but I didn't care. It was a fantastic time and Coach Bart was there too grab me in a bear hug.
"You did it Adam. I'm so proud of you." Coach Bart said.
I was on cloud nine, I was a State Champion and my hero was proud of me. He set me down only to have Bob pick me up in a bear hug.
"Way to go, Adam. I knew you could do it." Bob told me before he let me down, for Coach Socrates to take his turn.
"See, all the hard work paid off." Coach Socrates repeated.
I turned and said, "Lets watch the rest of the race, we finish celebrating later."
The Pointer was just coming off the bend, really laboring, and Sean was not far behind starting his kick. It looked like he was gaining as he thundered down the straightaway. The Pointer had stayed with the Shorthair and I too long and was paying for it now. Sean passed him to finish in second place with a time of 9:23. The pointer finished third and Joey managed 4th with a time of 9:31. I looked back down the track to see where the Shorthair was. He was going at a pace not much more than a jog as runners were passing him. He had hit the wall but to his credit he had too much pride to just quit. He was in eighth place coming down the homestretch toward the finish line, but three other furs were closing in on him as they sprinted towards the finish line. One of them was Gordon and he was pulling away from the others. I was screaming encouragement along with the whole contingent from United Furs. The Shorthair could feel him coming and he tried to pick up the pace, but Gordon pulled up on him and passed him about 10 yards from the finish line to take the eighth and last placement. I was the first one there to congratulate him. He had broken 10 minutes, with a 9:57, I was so proud of him.
"See I told you you could do it!" I said pulling him to my chest. He buried his muzzle into my chest and was crying, and that started me crying too. Until then it hadn't hit me that I really was finally a State Champion. It was such a wonderful feeling. And not only did I have a huge cheering section that had come all the way to State to watch me, I had all the furs that were the most important to me to help me celebrate. 'The Pack', Bob, Coach Socrates and especially Coach Bart and Gordon were all here at my moment of triumph. My parents weren't here, but this was my real family. I picked up my head and saw Ron sprinting toward the finish line, so I started yelling out encouragement. He crossed the line in sixteenth place, with a nice time of 10:18. Gordon and I went over to Ron to congratulate him, and when he had recovered enough we started a victory/cool down lap. We were joined by the rest of the pack and Sean as we circled the track one more time, albeit much slower this time.
Right after we finished our victory lap they had the medal ceremony. First they gave out the fourth through eighth medals, which were smaller than those for the first three places. They stood on the ground in front of the medal stand to receive their medals. Gordon was the first to receive his medal. As they put the medal around his neck, I started to howl and the rest of "The Pack" joined in. He also got quite an ovation from the United Furs contingent; he was probably the fur that most of the student body identified with. He was a "Nobody" that made good. Joey was the last of the medals awarded before the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were handed out. He got a big cheer from the other pack members, but not many fans from his school came to cheer for him. I felt kind of bad for him, but he had a big smile on his muzzle as the placed the medal around his neck.
The Pointer was a little disappointed with his third place. He had been seeded third, but when the Shorthair collapsed he felt he should have come in second. He tried to stay with us too long and it cost him, though not as much as it did the Shorthair. Still he had a first place and a third place medal.
When they called Sean to the stand he was grinning ear to ear. The pack cheered for him and he got polite applause from the crowd as they placed the medal around his neck. I know he never expected a Silver Medal here, he thought that at least the Shorthair and I would beat him.
Finally, it was my turn. For the first time of my life I would get to mount the top level of the Medal Stand. As they called my name and I mounted the platform the crowd let out the biggest roar of the day. Not only did "The Pack" and all the students from United Furs cheer, but a big portion of the crowd did. It seems that the Shorthair's arrogance had made him lots of enemies and most of the furs were glad I beat him. His plan had backfired, last year he came in fourth in the mile and first in the two mile and this year he got no medals. When they placed the Gold Medal around my neck the pack started the group howl, and the rest of the students from United Furs joined in. When I took off my medal and raised it over my head to the crowd they broke off into the excited yips. It sent chills of joy down my spine, and tears of joy down my face.
After the ceremony I spent some time catching up with Bob. He was a freshman at State U this year. "So how is your season going?" I asked him.
"Not bad for a freshman, they are working on my bulking me up. I've put on twenty pounds of muscle so far." He grinned and flexed his muscles for me. I'm doing well in competitions against other freshmen but I'm not quite strong enough yet to compete on the national level against juniors and seniors."
"I know how hard you work; I know it's only a matter of time before you are competing at the national level."
"I know it's a two years away Adam, but you should come to school here."
"I'll think about it if I am good enough for them to offer me a scholarship."
Bob laughed, "You don't have to worry about that, coach let me out of practice early today partially to start recruiting you. He would offer you one right now if you were a senior. Just keep that in mind. It would be great to have you as a teammate again."
They had just finished the mile relay and were going through the medal ceremony. "The Pack", the Coaches and Bob were all sitting in the bleachers waiting for the team results. I hadn't really paid any attention to what place we were in; I knew we weren't the top team this year. They gave plaques to third through tenth place and trophies to first and second. When they got to fourth place they announced.
"In fourth place with a score of 26 points, are the defending State Champions, United Furs High School."
Our fans went crazy and the team followed Coach Socrates and Coach Bart up to the podium to get our plaque. Not quite as exciting as last year winning it all but much better than you could expect from 5 sophomores. When they got to first place they announced.
"And the new State Champions with a score of 44 points, The Willowbrook High School Spartans." It was our main rival, the team that had beaten us in our first meet this year. I clapped for them, no sense in being a poor sport. They posed with their trophy and celebrated, just like we did last year.
I gathered the pack together and said, "See what it's like to win a State Championship! That was us last year, mainly Bob, Mitch and I. If we work our asses off, that can be us in a year or two!"
I was interrupted by another announcement. The president of the State Interscholastic Athletic Association was standing at the podium holding a really nice trophy. Not as big as the one they gave to the winning team but almost as big. "The final Award is the Most Valuable Performer at the State Championships. This pup tallied a first, a second and a third place for a total of 24 points, Adam from United Furs High School." I just stood there with my mouth open in disbelief.
Gordon had to push me, "Get up there and get your trophy!"
I stumbled forward in disbelief and a big ovation rose from the stands. I walked up to the Podium with Coach Bart and Coach Socrates. They stood on either side of me as I was presented the MVP award and while the pictures were taken. I knew one of these pictures would be on the front page of the newspaper and that would just frost my stepfathers balls. He would make me pay for it, I'm sure he would find a reason to ground me for a week and make fun of me in front of his cop friends that frequented the bakery for coffee and donuts. But I had won it and there was nothing he could ever do to take it away.
I was overwhelmed; the rest of the day was like a dream. As we rode back home in the school van, the adrenaline was still coursing through our veins, so none of us even thought of sleeping. We stopped at a big cafeteria style restaurant to eat. The van got there first and we all got seated and started our meals by the time the buses got there. After we were done we went over to the table where Gordon's Mom was eating with the other mothers of "The Pack" (my mom was the only one that wasn't there).
"I'm so proud of you pups!" She said and she hugged both of us at the same time. "I have to go in to the Office for a few hours when I get back, There are just a few things that need updated on the server. I know you two have to be exhausted, so don't wait up for me."
"OK, Mom."
We talked for a few minutes and then talked to some of the students, until it was time to leave. By the time all 200 or so of them ate it was going to be a while so they would be even further behind us.
We were surprisingly not tired; the one most excited was Ron. He was sure he was going to get to pop Sheila's cherry tonight. Sean had given him a couple of rubbers before we left the meet.
Coach Socrates dropped us all off at our houses. He dropped me off at Gordon's. I had already told my Mom I was staying overnight since we would be getting home late. We got home much earlier than the buses and after all the stress and adrenaline, Gordon and I were a couple of very horny furs. We barely made it through the front door and got it locked before we were stripping out of our clothes and leaving them where they fell. I was so hard I was aching. I put my paws on Gordon's shoulders and gently pushed him to his knees.
"Gordon licked his lips as he skinned my sheath back to take care of his Alpha. "Wow, my Alpha is a State Champion. I wonder if it will taste even better now!" He said with a giggle as he took me skillfully into his muzzle. Soon he was bobbing up and down on my shaft, while stroking himself with his left hand. Neither of us were going to last long, we needed release from the tension that had built all day. I gripped his backskull with both paws and really started fucking his muzzle hard. I was just about out of control and he was fisting his own member furiously. He gripped the base of my rapidly forming knot and we both exploded, relieving a good portion of the tension that had been building all day.
He released both of our knots after about 30 seconds, just enough to get the edge off of us but not drain us too much. We both wanted to get off several times before we went to bed.
After the few moments it took for our erections to subside I asked. "My muscles are starting to tighten up. Why don't we go relax in the hot tub?"
"Sounds great, why don't you turn it on and I 'll get some towels."
We decided to get in and let it warm up while we were in it. We sat there, my arm around his shoulder and his muzzle buried in the hollow of my neck.
"Adam, I finally don't feel ashamed of myself any more. I was eighth in the state, my father never placed at state. He was a good athlete in his school, but not that good. My medal PROVES I'm not a nobody!"
"I've told you all along that your father was an idiot. I knew you weren't a nobody from the start. I was really proud of my pup today! Your first year out for track and you got eighth place in the two mile and part of the relay that took third at state."
"If you wouldn't have broken the Shorthair, I would have been ninth, just out of the medals." He said with a semi-evil grin.
I grinned back even more evilly, "That was sooo sweeeeet, screwing that Jerk over. The arrogance of that bastard!"
"He had a surefire "Plan" though." Gordon laughed immoderately.
"Just think, if I would have listened to everybody else, and skipped the relay and the mile, I would never have been the MVP of the state meet. Man that was something I never dreamed of."
"You were awesome!" He reached down and ran his hand up and down my sheath, "All I could think about on the way home was getting bred by the State Champion. Is there any chance of that happening?"
I growled, "I don't think there is any chance of it NOT happening! I'm the damn State Champion. I think I deserve to breed anyone I want to! Bend over the rail pup, and get ready to get filled with some State Champion spunk!"
He jumped up and bent over the front edge of the tub. He looked over his shoulder seductively, then raised his tail up and to the right, until his "brown eye" was staring me right in the eyes. I peeled back my sheath with my right paw and poked him in the "eye" with my dick. I pushed it a couple of inches in, then grabbed his hips with both paws and drove it home into that oh so familiar velvety rectum. He groaned in pleasure, as my big balls slapped up against his smaller ones. I held it there for a few seconds, it felt so good to reaffirm ownership of my pup. And there was no question that I owned his tight little asshole. I slowly started thrusting in and out of him, the whole way in and the whole way out. It felt so good when his tight little sphincter caught my sensitive corona on the way out and then after pulling all the way out feeling my head push back through my pups tight little pucker. He moaned like a bitch in heat which just caused me to start thrusting faster and harder. I was feeling incredibly dominant today, so my knot was already starting to form. I drove in balls deep with short hard thrusts! "There, Take it bitch!" I growled as I locked deep in Gordon and exploded with a grunt as Gordon started to cum too. We were locked tight and both cumming like tied ferals when we heard the sliding glass door slide open. We both looked up at the same time.
Standing there in the door, her muzzle hanging open was Gordon's Mom.
