#4 of Kleet Executions

Another in the series.

The smell of singed fur filled the grim chamber, emanating from the blackened lumps that were tossed in the lit braziers. Another bloody lump was tossed onto the coals, sizzling as it landed. The dog tied spread-eagle on the wooden platform cried out as the kobold raised the heavy cleaver again, ready to cut off the last remaining paw. The scowl on Kleet's face deepened at the fresh howling, knowing he would hear a lot more from the canine before he finally blacked out and bled out. He hated being on kitchen duty.

It was such a waste of effort, to cut away the extremities, then cleave each limb in chunks. The cleaver came down with a wet "thunk", sinking into the blood-stained wood, as the wrist was bisected. The kobold moved to the other side of the dog, and chopped the other wrist in two. Annoyed at the continuing cries of agony, the kobold yipped angrily.

Kleet took the chunks away from the begging dog and started to pry the bones out. Once removed, he switched to a pair of smaller knives, chopping and mincing the portions into a bloody mess. So much time spent, to reduce a still living body's limbs into scraps of meat. Scraps that the other prisoners would get to eat. The gore was pilled up and moved into a cauldron - adding to the thin gruel already inside.

By the time he returned to the victim, the dog had entered shock. Wide eyed and gaping mouthed, he at least stopped making such loud screams. The remainder of his arms came off in 3 cleaves each. His head lolled to the side, tongue hanging out between slack jaws, by the time the kobold moved on to his legs. But each fresh chop brought a fresh trashing or whimper from the disassembled dog.

Kleet tossed the last cuts of meat (the heart and liver) into the large boiling pot. Looking back at the remains - the skinned chest with no breast meat or belly fat remaining, the digestive tract carefully moved into a bucket while the lungs and kidneys were left exposed in the chest - the kobold's mouth began to water. Let the prisoners have the fur and flesh, let the guts go into the trash. There was still plenty of tasty parts left.

Moving away from the cooking gruel, the kobold licked his lips before climbing up on the blood-soaked slab. He was careful to keep his feet out of any slippery parts that remained on the platform. Sticking his narrow head inside the chest cavity, he started to eat the layers of suet that remained inside - his sharp teeth easily tearing the white fat away from the less tasty organs. Flecks of blood added a richness to the delicate lines of suet.
