From Afar - Spooky Poem

Story by K9Lupus on SoFurry

, , , , ,

Wanted to try my hand at doing something different from the usual stories I've been making for One-Hour Story, so I went with a more dark "short-story" inspired by The Company of Wolves I most recently watched along with thinking of classics by Edgar Allen Poe. Let me know if you'd like to see more things like this from me in the future as I'm always keen to branch out and try new writing styles.

Not spooked by the poem? Share it with your friends and see how they feel!

Today I leveled up! Thank you for the continued support readers and followers of my work have shown me with this project. Two more abilities will be posted onto my OHS description page tonight along with a writer's "Bounty Board" where you'll be able to post challenges for me to do with my stories along with accompanying rewards that you offer. OHS only continues from your show of support, so if you've enjoyed being able to read these stories every day consider pledging a "Health Potion" over onto my Patreon page to keep daily updates coming. Any amount pledged can qualify to restore my health and keep the stories coming.

On a dark, dark night

In a spooky, old wood

There's a house with a door left ajar.

There's a woman in the window

With a hand on her shoulder

And trailing down her cheek is a scar.

Someone lost in the wood

Comes right upon the house

Doesn't knock, comes inside, and says “Hello?"

Only silence greets him

As he goes throughout the house

Until he hears growling from Below.

Now there's a pounding on the stairs

As the man scrabbles up

Trying to escape what it is that he has found.

Time is running out

As the threat grows ever nearer

When the man slips fast and hits the ground.

Then the lights go out

One-two, three-four,

Shadows ravenous at once to consume.

With an outstretched hand

His fingers wrap around a knob

And he locks himself inside the woman's room.

She's a paltry little thing.

With a gray, feathered hat

And a smile that could warm the freezing cold.

But when his eyes look upon her

His heart is drenched in terror

As her gaze pierces straight through to his soul.

“Oh, little deary...

How did you get here so?

Don't you know it's the hour of the star?

It's a special time

That I've saved here just for you

While I've been watching from afar."

On a dark, dark night

In a spooky, old wood

There's a house with a door left ajar

There's a woman in the window

With two hands on her shoulders

And trailing down her cheek is a scar.
