Professor Oak's Assistant - Chapter 2
#2 of Pokemon Professor Oak's Assistant
Meeting Ash's Pokemon, basic introductory chapter for the Pokemon and Thomas, next chapter may concentrate on individual Pokemon more than others.
Heading back to Kanto was a experience that made me remember everything I had been through over the many years I've been on my journey, meeting several Pokemon and even having the opportunity to catch some. Once I reached Viridian City, I headed back along Route 1 which would take me directly to Pallet Town where i grew up, where my journey began those eight years ago.
Once I reached Pallet Town, I saw everything, the incredible laboratory of Professor Oak that loomed in the distance, such a majestic building it was. Several other ordinary homes were littered around, I did see Ash's home, but obviously he was not here. My house was finally within view and I stared up at the house that brought back so many wonderful memories with my loving parents.
Knocking on the blue door, I waited patiently, for someone to see who it was, after what seemed like an eternity, the door opened and out came my mother, a young women, who wasn't that tall, in fact, I had grown a lot over the years, now surpassing my mother in height. Her eyes filled with tears as she recognised me immediately hugging me, something I returned with complete sincerity, the tears continued falling and she tried to dry her eyes, welcoming me in the home once again.
I walked through the door, seeing so many things, picture frames of me as a kid, playing with wild Pokemon, or at the Professor's laboratory as well. My mother immediately sat down on the sofa and I followed her. "How was your journey?" she asked me and I told her, that it was so much fun, but I was glad to be home with my family and new friends as well. At the word friends I grabbed my Pokeballs and studied them. My mum noticed them and wondered why I even had Pokemon, it was understandable as I didn't really want to catch Pokemon, just take photos of them in their natural habitat.
"I can show them to you at Professor Oak's laboratory, after all I need to see him about becoming his assistant." My mum nodded and then I asked where dad was, mum however, revealed that he had a new job which kept him busy, he was always away, unless it was the weekend, meaning I had just missed him. That did sadden me, however I perked up upon realising that I could just surprise him when he inevitably comes home soon.
After chatting away, I decided that it was time to go and visit the Professor, mum followed me as well, wanting to see the Pokemon I had met and photographed as well. Soon enough we reached the very place where my journey began and where I met Bulbasaur. Heading inside, I didn't see Professor Oak, however, I did see a young man, about my age maybe, with a Marill on his shoulder. "Excuse me if Professor Oak around?" I asked and the young man turned towards me, introducing himself as Tracey, the Professor's assistant. The way he said 'assistant' was filled with so much confidence and arrogance I actually felt sick.
Tracey informed me that Professor Oak was busy right now and that we would need to come back later, however, as soon as he said that, said Professor Oak appeared, he spotted me immediately and walked over asking me to come inside. Following him, we arrived outside in the beautiful garden where Pokemon trainers keep their Pokemon when they have more than six Pokemon. Already I could see so many Pokemon, Onix were on a nearby mountain which overlooked the plains, where many Pokemon grazed on the grasses. I was already itching to take some pictures of all the Pokemon here once again.
"Professor, would you like to see the Pokemon that accompanied me on my journey?" I asked and he nodded his head, even at his age, he was always eager to meet new Pokemon, grabbing my five Pokeballs I released them all at once. "Come on out everyone" Venusair, Pidgeot, Tyranitar, Aggron and Lucario appeared. Professor Oak then examined all of them to understand their condition and see whether they were all healthy and deemed them to be so. "Your Pokemon are all well cared for, they also look quite strong as well." I nodded, "even though battling wasn't something I liked doing, sometimes, we had to fight wild Pokemon and trainers and that's how they got stronger and evolved."
I didn't really understand why, by Tracey, didn't seem to like me one bit, always out of the corner of my eye, he was glaring not only at me, but my Pokemon as well, I did begin wondering whether he was jealous of my Pokemon or something along those lines. He stopped soon enough, we he was confronted by a equally glaring Tyranitar who didn't like anyone insulting his friends or his trainer either.
Looks like we attracted an audience though, some wild Pokemon, or maybe trained Pokemon arrived with a Bulbasaur leading them, "ah Bulbasaur, it's great to see you" Professor Oak nodded to the Bulbasaur, who happily greeted him back. When Bulbasaur extended his vines in my direction, I wondered whether he was going to attack me, however he was just wondering who I was and why I was here. "Oh this, this is Thomas, he's going to be my new assistant, just like Tracey." Bulbasaur nodded his head and examined me as well as my Pokemon, however he must of deemed me a good enough assistant.
"Professor thank you very much" I said happily to the Professor as he accepted me to be the newest assistant, while an angry Tracey or jealous one at that, stared annoyed at me. "so, Professor, what is it you want me to do first?" I asked eager to begin my jobs as his assistant. "Eager aren't we? Well, you don't need to to anything yet, why not get to know the Pokemon here, whether they're trained or wild, who knows, I saw some Pokemon earlier eyeing up your Pokemon as well."
As soon as he said that he wondered off inside the laboratory with my mother and Tracey in tow. I decided I would keep my Pokemon outside of their Pokeballs so they could get some fresh air and also explore their new home as well. To be honest, I was kind of lost, what Pokemon are here and where did they all disappear of to. However, the very same Bulbasaur appeared and pointed with his vine to and from me. "You want me to follow you?" I asked and the Bulbasaur nodded his head before walking on wards. "Wait!" the Professor shouted as he ran over to me, a device in hand.
"This is a Pokemon translator, recently they've started to be developed however, they're aren't that many around" Professor Oak then told me to place it in my ear, like an ear piece and luckily it was a perfect fit. Now I could understand the Pokemon here and my own as well, "Master, you can understand us?" Venusaur asked me curiously his voice was definitely male and sounded professional as well. "I can understand you Venusaur, it's an honour to speak with you all once and for all." At that all my Pokemon embraced me, which did make it slightly difficult to breathe as Aggron, Tyranitar, Lucario and Venusaur squeezed me exceptionally tightly.
I could see so much happiness shining in their eyes as they were now capable of speaking with me, the Bulbasaur interrupted and informed me he was Ash's Bulbasaur and the one who maintained order around here, at that he stared at my Pokemon and I wondered whether he was showing he had more authority over them. Venusaur however, just ignored his comments, knowing he was much stronger then the pre-evolution that stood in front of him.
Bulbasaur then began showing me around, as well as my Pokemon, who were admittedly enjoying the area, as certain environments and habitats suited their individual species more. We soon arrived at a lake, where water Pokeon were abundant and I was introduced to some of Ash's Water Type Pokemon, they were, an Oshawott, Palptoad, Totodile, Kingler, Corphish and a Buizel. "It's nice to meet you all" I smiled and waved at all the individual Pokemon who greeted me warmly. Buizel even challenged my Pokemon to fights whenever they wanted as they looked tough.
After meeting the Water Pokemon, we headed to a lush greenery, where many Grass and Bug Type Pokemon lived, as well as the occasional Flying and Normal Type as well. Bulbasaur mentioned he lived here as well as, Bayleef, Sceptile, Torterra, Snivy, Staraptor, Noctowl, Gliscor, Swellow, Heracross, Leavanny and Unfezant as well. There was a wide variety there, however, I really didn't see all of them which was fine, I did see Sceptile, Snivy, Gliscor and Heracross though. Before I could even introduce myself, Heracross flew right over to Bulbasaur and attempted to eat the nectar from the bulb that grew on Bulbasaur's back.
Bulbasaur was annoyed and kept trying to get Heracross of however, he wouldn't let go, 'hang on, I've got some honey that might be good. "Hey Heracross, I've got some honey if you'd like it" as I pulled out the jar of honey, I had received from many trainers and travellers such as myself. No sooner, than I grabbed it, Heracross tackled me down to the ground, "thank you, new human" he kept repeating that over and over as he ate the honey. Bulbasaur actually smiled at me, probably thankful that I distracted Bulbasaur from his bulb.
"You look tough" a male voice said from a distance away and we all turned around to see Sceptile, a powerful fully evolved Grass Type Pokemon as he stared down me and my Pokemon before grinning, "I'll happily take you on in a battle of strength anytime" Sceptile said eagerly, while Aggron and Tyranitar smirked at the challenger eager to test their strength against him, Snivy who was a girl, however, believed that I should carry on my tour without interruptions, "it was a nice thing to help out Bulbasaur and give Heracross honey, however Heracross likely won't leave you alone now, good luck" she said simply winking before jumping into the trees and disappearing with such elegance and speed.
Bulbasaur continued on and we soon reached a sleeping Snorlax by a nearby fence opposite the fields, Bulbasaur mentioned that this was Ash's Snorlax that he captured and all he does is eat and sleep however, he is a strong, capable and reliable battler. in the fields, I saw a huge herd of Tauros stampeding around and Bulbasaur informed me they all belong to Ash as well and I actually was really impressed with Ash for catching so many Pokemon, however, a large portion hadn't evolved. I also saw a Infernape, Gible, Torkoal, Krookodile, Hawlucha, Noivern and a Donphan chatting together.
Bulbasaur led me towards the Pokemon and they turned around upon hearing a loud thud, that was my Pokemon walking alongside me, Bulbasaur then introduced me to the Pokemon, "this is Thomas the Professor's newest assistant, treat him well." These Pokemon looked incredibly strong compared to many others, not to say the others didn't appear strong they all did. Infernape greeted me with a handshake which shocked me as he grinned at me, "nice to meet you" he said. The others followed suit and they were all really nice, however, the Gible bit me right on the head.
"I like you" the Gible spoke while he gnawed on my head, the others chuckled and Infernape revealed that Gible only did that to people he liked and trusted, I did feel honoured to have a Pokemon like me while Venusaur gently used his vines to remove the Gible from my head and place him gently down on the ground. "Thanks Venusaur" Venusaur however, just informed me that it was his duty to ensure I was kept safe and well no matter what.
After meeting them I asked Bulbasaur, "so how many habitats are actually here?" Bulbasaur informed me that their were so many even he had trouble keeping track of them all, but they were always expanding as more and more trainers continued catching more and more Pokemon and therefore there needed to be more room for the Pokemon in the gardens. I nodded my head understanding that they would need to be continually expanding to accommodate new Pokemon. Bulbasaur mentioned we were headed to a cave like area, where many Rock, Ground and Steel Pokemon lived, sure enough, when we reached the cave, I spotted a Boldore lounging around, the Boldore was a peaceful Pokemon that Ash had caught while in Unova a while back.
I couldn't help but feel as if Ash wasn't taking any Pokemon other than Pikachu with him and therefore, all these Pokemon are living boring daily lives, when they should be out battling and having a much more fruitful life. I spoke up to Bulbasaur asking what his opinion was, "Bulbasaur, don't you or any other Pokemon go with Ash on his journeys anymore?" However, Bulbasaur stopped in his tracks and admitted softly, "we don't whichever region Ash travels through, all he takes is Pikachu and leaves everyone else here, that's what happens all the time."
I couldn't help it, the anger in my body grew more and more and I wondered whether Ash even cared for his Pokemon equally, even if Pikachu was Ash's starter he should be treating all of his Pokemon with the proper respect and giving them equal opportunities to battle and get stronger. The next time I see Ash I would definitely be confronting him on what I believed was abandoning your Pokemon and picking favourites, any trainer should see that these Pokemon want to go on adventures, but all their doing, is meandering around the gardens just hoping that one day Ash would invite them on a journey.
I wished I could help them and then I had a brainwave, maybe I should help get them stronger, by battling with them, if they get stronger, perhaps Ash will recognise that his Pokemon want to battle and get stronger but he's keeping them trapped here, almost in a serene prison, where you receive everything you need to survive, but what you really want is kept away from you forever.
My thoughts were interrupted when some Flying Pokemon approached, it was Unfezant, Staraptor, Swellow, Noctowl and Talonflame. I noticed that every Pokemon except for Unfezant was male. "Is this the new assistant everyone's been talking about?" Talonflame asked curiously, before Staraptor nodded his head as well, "his Pokemon are really strong, he's got to be the assistant." I couldn't help myself and blushed at the praise I was receiving but knew that they were really praising my Pokemon's strength not my ability as a trainer.
Soon enough, I met the other Pokemon, Glalie, a trickster of a Ice Pokemon that almost completely froze me if it wasn't for my Lucario's quick movement to carry me away to safety. Quilava a intricate Fire Type Pokemon which didn't like fighting that much but seemed like a tough battler, the opposite was Pignite who liked battling a lot. Scraggy and Leavanny were peaceful Pokemon however Scraggy liked glaring at me a lot, however, I learned that's just what he does. Another Pokemon I met was really impressive, Charizard, he was flying around before he spotted Bulbasaur and landed, "this the Professor's assistant?" he asked simply to Bulbasaur who just nodded and so Charizard just put his thumbs up and looked at my Pokemon, "tough Pokemon you've got, we'll have a to have a battle sometime soon." Charizard said eagerly as he flew away, creating a large wind gust which almost blew me away.
The last Pokemon I met was Muk and that was when I headed back to the Professor's laboratory after meeting the Pokemon, Muk enjoyed being everywhere the Professor was and gave him what I called a hug by a Muk.
When I next met Professor Oak, he informed me that tomorrow I would start by feeding the Pokemon early and could do whatever I wanted for the rest of the day. So I left my Pokemon at the laboratory and headed back home, ready for a new day, where I would implement my plan, to help Ash's Pokemon revitalise their battling instincts, though only if they wanted.
