Here's where a young otter's ordinary life as a deep sea peril diver takes a turn and then things get turned upside down as she's selected to be the king's new bride.

"I LOVE HIM! I LOVE HIM!!" cried a 20 year old otter girl as she skipped merrily from the huddled group of huts to the shore line where a bare chested otter with long dark hair carried in a bag full of clams. The otter wore a red sarong around her waist and a shark tooth anklet on her right ankle. She knelt down to examine the collection she brought back up when she looked up to see the cheerful otter coming towards her and crouch down in front of her. "LeiLani, I have the greatest news to tell you," said the young otter, "You know how the boys in the village have been asking for my hand? Well, one of them was Ruma and I said yes!" LeiLani smiled and hugged her friend. "That's wonderful, Kiari," she said. "I know and I want you to be my maid of honor," added Kiari, which made LeiLani blush. "Oh, I'd be honored," she said, though Kiari knew that the otter was lonely on the inside despite her happy outside. "Don't worry, LeiLani. You're 25 and I'm sure someone's bound to love you," said Kiari, "Now, come on. I want to tell my parents the good news." She pulled LeiLani to her feet and the older otter grabbed her bag full of oysters and followed right behind. Kiari was running so fast that she didn't see LeiLani fall behind.

Just then, a blue dragon with green eyes, red hair and a beige chest came out. He wore a teal colored vest and navy blue pants and his bare feet were upon the sand and he wore a snowflake necklace around his neck. He was surprised to see LeiLani stop and catch her breath from running so fast. "What's the rush, dear?" he asked placing a hand on her back. "Oh, hello Cousin Nathan. Kiari just told me that Ruma proposed to her and she said yes," panted the otter. "Well, good for her," said Nathan, "Maybe being a married woman can calm her energy down a little. And probably safer here too." Nathan knew the king was looking for a new queen and he was certain that the sea goddess would watch over whoever it would be. For now, he was happy to see LeiLani all grown up after all the years he spent raising her.

"Oh, by the way, LeiLani," said Nathan, "Earlier you told me that you saw Malana steal a coconut." "Yeah, I almost forgot about that," said the otter as she recalled the event right before she went diving for pearls. She asked Nathan about it and he said to go diving and then come back. "Now, the coconut wasn't hers but she took it," continued Nathan, "And now, you don't know what to do." "Yeah, what should I do?" asked LeiLani. "What do you think you should do?" asked Nathan. The otter thought for a moment. The dragon had taught her all about doing the right thing even when it wasn't easy. "Well... I suppose I could tell her it was wrong and that she should pay for it," said LeiLani. "Sounds like a good answer," said Nathan as he turned to join the crowd who heard of Kiari's engagement. "Yeah, but I'm too scared," whimpered the otter. The dragon stopped and then turned around. "LeiLani, how long have I been your cousin?" he asked. "Well, pretty much all my life," she said smiling. "Well, give or take," shrugged Nathan and then turned serious, "Have I ever steered you wrong?" The young otter thought for a moment and then shook her head. "You never need to be afraid to do what's right," said Nathan, "Remember the story your mother told you when you were just a little kid?" LeiLani thought for a moment. "You mean the one where the chief's daughter ventured away from home to save her island and that she wasn't afraid because she knew the sea goddess was always watching over her? Yeah I remember that one," she said, "But what if Malana doesn't want to be my friend anymore?" Nathan sighed, "Oh LeiLani. You can do the right thing and there are problems out there a lot bigger than stolen coconuts." Suddenly, there was the sound of horses and thundering hooves. "Like that one!" gasped Nathan as he saw a brown wolf and two other wolves on either side driving two horses that pulled a big carriage behind them. "It's Jamie! That guy hates me! I gotta get scarce," said Nathan as he hid inside a nearby hut.

The carriage stopped and one of the gray wolves hopped out and announced, "Make way for the king's royal advisor!" The brown wolf stood wearing a green robe with a golden sash tied around his waist. His sandy colored hair blew in the wind as he called, "Hello, people of Tahiti! His royal highness, King David Perriere, finds himself (for reasons that do NOT concern you) in need of a new queen!" All the single girls squealed in delight when they heard this, except LeiLani. She wasn't so sure she would be worthy of being queen at all. The gray wolf who announced the royal advisor opened the door to the carriage as Jamie went on. "So, I would like to ask all eligible young ladies to please come with me," he said as he watched all the girls climb inside, but he spotted LeiLani walking away. "Young lady! That means you," he called. The otter girl froze and turned to look back at the brown wolf. "Uh... if it's all the same to the king, I think I'd rather stay right here," she said. "I did not ask if you were interested," retorted Jamie, "The king needs a queen. Get in the carriage." Nathan peaked out from inside the hut and whispered to the otter. "LeiLani, for your own good, you should probably go," he said softly so that only the otter could hear. "What?" asked LeiLani and then turned to Jamie much to Nathan's horror, "Sir, I need to stay here so I can take care of my-" "Shhhhh!" hissed Nathan but the wolf's ears perked up and he looked over at the otter crossly. "Did you shush me?" he demanded sternly. Without thinking, the dragon stepped out to answer, "Uh, no. I was shushing-" "Hey, I know you. You're Nathan," sneered the wolf. Nathan just groaned as he rolled his eyes. "Hello, Jamie," he muttered. "You can call me sir," said Jamie snootily, "You know, you and I both work for the king, but compared to me, you are a twight." Nathan sighed shaking his head. "It's twit, not twight," he said. That got Jamie's neck fur to stand on end. "Are you calling me a twight?" he growled. "No, just correcting your pronunciation," the dragon simply said. "Are you calling me stupid?!" snarled Jamie as he stood up in his seat. "Uh... no," replied Nathan. Jamie turned to LeiLani. "You, get in the carriage," he said and turned to Nathan, "You, bow to me." "No," said Nathan. "Bow!" snarled the wolf angrily. "I bow to no one except the sea goddess and my king," declared the dragon boldly. Jamie was boiling mad at this point and showing his teeth. "GET IN THE CARRIAGE!!" he barked ferociously at LeiLani. "But I want to stay here with-" "Shhhh!" hissed Nathan. "DID YOU SHUSH ME AGAIN?!" roared Jamie angrily. "NO!" cried Nathan and turned to the otter, "LeiLani! Go! I'll explain later." The otter reluctantly obeyed as she climbed inside and the door was closed and the gray wolf servants climbed back up to drive the carriage back to the wolf king's palace. Before it left the village, Jamie turned back to yell at Nathan. "Mark my words, ice dragon!" he roared, "One of these days!" Nathan looked worriedly at the carriage as it sped away carrying his only adoptive relative back to the palace. "Oh, mighty sea goddess," he prayed, "Watch over LeiLani and let her find favor in both you and the king's eyes."
