The Arms Master's View
#26 of Dragon Hunter Saga
*This 'chapter' is being told from the perspective of the Arms Master Ecthelon*
I had just spent a year escorting the young maid Ullothsell to the city Hope Point, and I sneer mentally at the thought of being here. I had more important things to do than teach some silly human girl how to fight. For the last ten years I had finally been given the dreams about my prefect partner and while the escort job from the last year was a great way to see if I could find the woman I was hunting for. I certainly had no interest in teaching any human female.
As we reach the gate I turn to the young maid and say, "well Ullothsell, we have made it to the city. Now I have the unpleasant task of meeting this female Hunter, and hoping that I can train her to be a real Hunter. Why couldn't she have been the one to die instead of her brother. It would have made things much easier for everyone."
I then turn towards the gate and my mouth drops, for standing next to the large unicorn and looking very angry was her! The bright golden hair the emerald green eyes, even her height was just as I saw in my dreams. I did notice a good many scars on her face that I had not seen, though the ones on her arms I recall from more recent dreams.
The furious woman strides towards me and Ullothsell and says, "greetings Ullothsell. I welcome you to our fine city, I hope you enjoy living here." She then turns to me with a look of utter disdain, and says in a voice that could freeze lava. "As for you feel free to ask about, on how 'unreal' of a Hunter I am. Don't worry about sullying your pristine hands by training me," she reaches behind her to the large unicorn; who looks like he wishes to pierce some part of me. Pats his shoulder and says, "I am certain my friend here and my human body guard can do what ever you thought was necessary to turn me into a 'real Hunter'. So please move into the guards camp as I know they need a trainer too, this way you won't even have to look at me." She then turns and strides back inside the city the unicorn giving me a look that could wilt stone before he follows her.
I hear a whistle and I see a grizzled looking middle aged human female looking at me with a look of pity. "Well, looks like you shoved your danged foot into your mouth elf. I thought your kind were more eloquent than that." A voice I recognize came from behind her, "that is because my dear Tammy. Ecthelon is an idiot, I had told him for the whole time you were on your way here he wanted to meet the Hunter. Yet he had to disbelieve an old friend because he knew better." Gilorndir steps from behind the human and shakes his head.
"You do realize that based on your descriptions that I knew she was your dream partner." The human's mouth drops open and points a finger to me then to Gilorndir, "you mean she's his Harriet?" The healer nods his head and then crosses his arms, "I had hoped to get here before she did. However seeing as how she was planning on taking the city's children out for an objective lesson I guess that is why she got here first."
A very orange magical gryphon walks out of the gate with an annoyed look on his face, he looks at Gilorndir and then to me and says to Gilorndir. "I assume this is your friend healer? He has done a very excellent job of pissing Gwen off, it is probably best she is going out with the children before the court period this afternoon." The tip of his tail flickered back and forth as he sits down observing me, odd to have something that size make me feel like I was on the menu.
"I recall you mentioning something about this elf and my hunter, or did I happen to pluck it out of your mind at some point while you slept?" The cat mused while examining his claws, Gilorndir leans down towards the winged cat. "Now Cheshire, I know full well you could have plucked it from my mind and seeing as how I haven't told anyone except for this idiot. We can safely say you took it from my mind." The cat slightly nods his head and stares holes into my head, "as for you." He says as he stands and starts pacing in front of the gate, "as I saw what the two of you are suppose to mean to each other. I will not attempt to shred you unless you intentionally piss her off again." He then stalks off into the city very much like the Hunter had not long ago.
Gilorndir waves me over to him, "come on. Let's go to the inn, Rassaes Blackforged should be there. I imagine he will love hearing about this, and you know dwarves; it's never too early for a drink." My healer friend turns to the human, "Tammy can you arrange an escort for our wine maker to find her home and workshop please?" He turns to Ullothsell, "now that you are here you can relax my dear. No one here will inform your parents of your 'unwise' choices."
The maid giggles, "you mean like the choice to be the wine maker of a Hunter city? They would rather I made perfumes the rest of my life." The human shook her head, "parents who can't let go eh? Well this is a great place to let yourself be you, come on I'll show you around. It's time to let one of the recruits take over anyway."
She took Ullothsell away and then I notice just out of sight a small female unicorn without a horn. Gilorndir nods a greeting to the lithe thing as we pass her and before I can ask, "the poor girl had fallen in to the hands of some anti magic cultists. Their 'patriarch' had chopped her horn off just as the Hunter and her group got to them, they had whipped her before her horn was removed. If they hadn't rescued her she probably would not have lived through the night. She screens all who attempt to enter the city, as she can still tell if someone has a disease or not." I nod my head and look about the city.
It still amazed me after all the years underground in the under cities of the dwarves at how simplistically beautiful their city structure was. To even use something humans consider precious as windows was a wonderful touch. As diamonds reflect light differently than glass goes.
We approach the inn a modest three story affair with some designs carved around the windows, and it appeared that one of the newer elvan residents had started painting a mural of the Hunter fighting Solar Dragon's. The door to the inn was made from a special wood grown by elves that was simply called 'iron wood'. It looked like a common oak but with a gray tinge to it and it was as strong as a piece of iron the same thickness it was, without weighing as much.
Gilorndir walks me inside and I see that yes his dwarf friend was already drinking ale, I wondered. {How does a dwarven blacksmith manage to not get burned while drunk?} Rassaes notices us and waves us over to his table.
When we sit down he loudly bangs his mug on the table and says, "whoa. I'd hate to be the fool dun pissed that thar Hunter off. When I came here thar was three recruits who got a talkin to when she saw them being lazy." My head hits the table, and I slowly turn my face towards Gilorndir. "I have been looking for her for TEN years, and when I get near her I say something to make her hate me. What should I do Gilorndir?"
The dwarf smacks his hand on the table, "by the Lady! Ecthelon, she's suppose to be your partner? What did you say to her to get her that angry?" I groan and reach for Rassaes' mug and finish the ale in it, and drop it back in front of the dwarf empty. The dwarf pauses and looks at the mug dumbfounded, "thought you liked them thar fruity wine drinks."
The innkeeper a middle aged dwarf notices that Rassaes mug is empty and how it got that way and sends over three mugs from a barrel she had under the counter. Rassaes perks up when he see's the liquid, "hey Hekkogar. Thanks for the mug of tha good stuff!" The female gives him a withering look and waves a hand in my direction, "if'n he's in bad 'nough straights to needs to speak to ye about women than he needs that drink more 'n you do." Rassaes chuckles and downs his mug quickly eyeing me then setting it on the table. He looks at Gilorndir, "so can we fix his problem old buddy?"
Gilorndir takes a sip of his, then turns his head to thank the innkeeper and turns back to us. "Well in my limited experience in dealing with the Hunter I would say just be yourself, and she'll see who you are. Just stop being prejudiced about humans, just because some in the old days killed your parents doesn't make them all bad." I shook my head ready to respond when something burst into the inn.
A very obvious human male dressed in a low cut woman's dress, covered in poorly done make up and a full beard. Not to mention something that resembled breasts under the dress, stomps up to the counter and addresses the innkeeper. "I want a room! Now! I have money!" S/He tosses a pouch on the counter and the innkeeper picks it up and looks in it, taking a few items out and sets it back on the counter. "Alright sir, if you'd"; she didn't get to finish as the man started yelling. "I am a WOMAN! You will address me as such you vertically challenged person." I blink at the statement by the human, and the innkeeper was trying to figure out what to say; and I point at the man. "This is why I have problems with humans."
Rassaes stands up and walks over to the man and looks him up and down, "woman eh? If'n you wanted to dress like a woman ye can, but if yer wantin to be a woman don be looking like a guy." Gilorndir stands and walks over to his friend and slaps him on the shoulder then looks at the man. "I'm the town healer and if you truly wish to be female I do have tonics that can do it. The first one will shrivel up your member until it is female size and shape. Then you take another that grows real breasts and removes excess body hair. Then another tonic that creates the orifice that a male does not have, I'm afraid that one is a tad bit painful. However, you'd be female; sterile. As unless you are a God no one can change that fully and painlessly."
As Gilorndir kept explaining the human's eyes kept getting bigger and then he paled and quickly came up with an excuse as to leave the area and fled the inn. Hekkogar, just shakes her head, "I thought all the crazy ones died already." Gilorndir shakes his head and heads back to our table. Once he sits a large window that was shuttered opens and a Dragon's head comes through the open window. Hekkogar speaks, "did ya needs a drink Sir Starburst?"
The Dragon rumbles as I touch my sword, "no thank you. I am just here to talk with the elf." The room goes silent and Rassaes turns to look at the rest of the people in the inn, "well if this is a show pay up." The people quickly ignored the dragon, whose large head was inches from me.
"I know of your people ELF, if you want a chance with her; learn to respect her. I know what her plans for this morning are, perhaps you should see what she is going to be doing. If you upset her again I will feed you to the Matriarch." With that the Dragon removes his head from the inn and vanishes.
Gilorndir shakes his head, "great now all we need is for Shadow to stare at you intently and all her body guards will have talked to you." A Dragon as a guard for the Dragon hunter? That was unheard of, a Hunter is suppose to kill Dragon's not friend them.
Rassaes gives me a look, "'er elf. I suggest you do as the scaly one says. He probably would do exactly what he said. That Hunter be takin them thar kids to the big farm with the swans on their pond." He points a finger at Hekkogar, "it's her husband's farm by the by." I turn to look at her and she nods her head in agreement.
I get up from the table and swallow the drink the dwarf had left me, it tasted really sweet and almost syrupy. I thank everyone and head out to find the hunter to at least apologize.
Unknown to him after he left the inn the innkeeper checked his cup, "that boy better be careful he drank the whole cup of five year old mead. That stuff kicks like a mule in about thirty minutes on an elf."
