CYOA Legacy of the Guardragon: Set up.
#2 of CYOA
Just a short chapter to set up a description for the dragon. Hopefully now the basic intro and appearance has been done, the dragon can start meeting other characters and things can begin to happen in the next chapters.
Tenderized by the impact and reluctant to flex without a minute's rest, muscles moved stiffly under a dull green hide of armoured scales and the dragon took a few clumsy steps to get a feel for it's untested appendages. Powerful hindlegs propelled it forwards and long fingered paws clutched the rocks for balance, one cracking with a puff of smoke as it was griped too tightly. Moving it's head on a gracefully curved neck to inspect the fragmented rock, a tingling sense of pride quickened the dragon's heart as it marveled at it's own strength and durability.
Reaching a paw (Hand? Hand paw? Paw hand? So many new words it would be able to coin once it found someone to talk to) out to encircle the trunk of a nearby tree towering above it, the dragon squeezed powerfully and let out a holler of delight when the wood split with an almighty crack. Splinters rained out from the force of it's crushing digits and with a groan of floral submission, the tree toppled over to strike the ground and sent a deafening echo bouncing into the silent forest.
Grinning it's toothy maw broadly as it shook it's hand paw to dislodge the wooden scraps from the skin around it's claws, the dragon spread it's wings and checked over the tough membrane stretched between a series of splines forming it's flight area. Elastic and smooth, the flesh was ticklish to the touch and every wisp of breeze sent pages of information into the dragon's mind to help it fly. Snuffling it's nose across the membrane sent shivers of pleasure up it's spine, the feeling it's own hot breath sliding across it's nerves like a tender caress.
There was great reluctance in it's movements as it drew the wing back against it's side and twisted one hand paw to press against the hard scales mounted on it's chest. Claws scraping gently down it's form as it examined every inch of draconic structure available, the toughened scales gave way to lighter, more sensitive variety once it reached the widening gap between it's thighs.
A raised mound split down the middle rested upon it's crotch, the mental image of the genital slit that a dolphin or whale possessed coming to the dragon as it pondered upon what could be hidden inside. Being female didn't seem to fit the mental map it had of itself as one digit carefully probed a claw between the lips, and a great sense of relief rushed over it when the slim tip of a male's shaft gave a dull tingle as it was touched.
It was a male. He was a male, he mentally corrected himself. Withdrawing his claws, a quick glance over his shoulder revealed the powerfully muscled tail that shifted subconsciously behind him to help maintain balance. Almost as long as his body by itself, he twisted it curiously about to get a sense of the mobility and found scratching his own nose quite easy from the tapered tip.
Fanning the frills around his head in excitement at what the future held, the dragon shook himself out to get a feel for this body and golden eyes shone brightly as he looked to the sky. His durability must be great to have survived such a fall from - where? Somewhere up there he had been created and given a purpose, and it was time to fulfill that purpose.
Searching for some sign of his origin hanging above, for the briefest moment there had been a flicker in his vision like the after image left from staring at a bright light. Thin strands of... something, running the length of the sky and wrapping the trees like glowing cord. Yet now, he saw nothing beyond cloud and the dazzlingly bright sun shining through the tree tops.
Frowning in worry that he may have missed some detail of great importance, his continued searching for a repeat of the phenomenon proved fruitless. Perhaps it was time to move on and find somewhere to get a better feel for his surroundings.
Bracing his feet on the ground and spreading his wings wide, the dragon let instinct take over and leaped into the sky. Every beat of his wings was like thunder into the lonely silence and as the trees fell away, his slow arch into the still air brought the landscape into better view. With the native population of questionable intelligence, and the creators myriad of experiments and new species still needing time to establish themselves, finding any structures or complex civilization might be difficult, but that would surely come in time.
Which way should he go?
North: Plants and mountains give way to desert and rock, though a meandering river offers some hope of life.
South: Trees stretched into the distance, forming a thickly impenetrable forest that could be difficult to take off and land in, but suggests plenty of animals may live there if they can be found.
East: Plains, a healthy mix of trees, shrubs and hunting grounds. Almost suspiciously tempting.
West: The ocean. Lots of fish is good for the brain, so there's that. Might be able to find someone to talk to, but would they really have anything of interest to say?
The dragon's purpose:
To control; Find the furry species and ensure they develop the way the creators want them to - whatever that may be. Dragon personality: Assertive, dominant, arrogant.
Non-interference; Ensure that the furry species are protected from anything that could harm them, but otherwise left alone to live their lives as they see fit. Dragon personality: Easy going, reserved, passive.
Suggest something. Dragon personality and purpose will be adjusted based on reader suggestions.
To help move the story along, I thought I'd offer some suggestion choices to make. Now there's a bit of background done, the dragon can start meeting and interacting with others. I'll try and get another chapter out in a couple of days rather than waiting a week to help get the story going a bit faster.
As before, I want to try and tailor the story based off of suggestions, so feel free to make any about what should happen, what creatures/interactions occur, and what the dragon should do, and I'll try and work them in somehow.
