CYOA Legacy of the Guardragon: Chapter 1
As there were two opposite choices, I was going to toss a coin to break the tie. However I don’t normally do dominant characters, so in the interests of writing something I haven’t done before, I went with that option. Leaning more towards a tough but fair tyrant, but have to see how it develops. I'll alter it as suggestions and story dictates.
Also, I've got a tablet, so I'll try and include some wonderful art to accompany this wonderful tale.
A name, the dragon pondered casually as his wings cupped the air and thrust his immense bulk forth at speed. He would require a name, something more personal than simply 'dragon'. Something majestic, that carried the weight of the creator's most powerful and laudable of beings. Something the lesser creatures would utter in reverence to his passing shadow. Perhaps Terry? Or Kevin?
Far below, crashing waves struck the towering cliff base in an eternal attempt to break down the stubborn rocks and add them to the fine white sand covered beach. With the barest thought, the dragon altered course and followed the foamy trail that separated land from sea, his eyes easily adjusting to the glare from the water's surface and seeing the dark bulk of whales swimming without a care to their name.
Much to his disappointment, there were no obvious caves in the adjacent cliff face. Overlooking the ocean and within easy flight of what may have been multiple hunting grounds, it would have served quite well as a home if his soon-to-be subjects lived close by. Offering his services as protector, it seemed only fair they maintain abodes near his own. He could hardly be expected to simply watch over their territory and get nothing in return.
Maintaining an altitude a few hundred meters in the air, he covered more than a mile a minute searching for signs of intelligent life. There must be some form of settlement nearby, he reasoned, as surely his creators wouldn't have simply dropped him into some uninhabited section of the world. To his growing pride at his own logic, movement cresting the horizon caught his eye and he put forth a burst of speed to close the distant.
A fur covered being, running on two legs. Some form of anthromorphic creature too far away for the dragon to make out the species, being chased by a creature he did recognise. In the depths of his programmed memory, an image of the hairless primate with loin cloth and spear was named: hominid. Which variant it was mattered little, only that it was currently hunting down one of the dragon's charges, and this wasn't a part of anyone's plan. Not counting the hominid's breakfast plan, in any case.
The dragon wondered how to approach the situation.
What do?
Attack the hairless monkey. Whether fatally or none fatally, it's interfering with the Plan. More importantly, it's about to damage the dragon's property. This won't do, and perhaps some punishment is in order.
Rescue the furry creature and leave the hairless one behind. It's of little consequence, and starting off on good terms with the furry critter as a benevolent dictator would help calm any fears it may have of you larger size and power. Knowing when not to attack is a valuable skill.
These bipeds are boring. Let's go back and watch the whales for a while. They seem to have life sorted out.
Suggest something.
What species should the anthro furry be? There will be a few different species introduced as the story goes, but looking for a starting suggestion. Otherwise, I'm going with elephant anthro, just because they don't get much representation.
What name?
Feel free to suggest a name for the dragon. I'm highly tempted to go with Bob, otherwise.
Who you?
As there may end up being a few characters once the story gets going a little, should the story change who's perspective it's being seen by, or should the dragon remain the main character and be the center of attention?
I don't want to write too many paragraphs at once or provide too much information at once as there becomes less choices for the readers to make, but if there is too little text, then it will take far too long for the story to get anywhere. I'll have to find a happy medium somewhere in between.
