#27 of The Legend of Rift Book II: Resurrection

"P-please..."

Sithris trembled and nudged the lifeless orange dragon. The body shifted with the nudge, only to move back. The black drake shook his head.

"Get up, you need to get up. We can rest after we leave this place."

Sithris moved to Rift's left side and wiggled himself under, trying in hope to assist the drake up. Unfortunately, he felt nothing but limp, dead weight. The black dragon began to panic. Nononono! He licked Rift's cheek, begging for even a twitch. There was nothing.

The heart of the electric dragon shattered.

A pained screech filled the air as Sithris broke. He buried his face against the deceased dragon's neck, sobbing. His tail squeezed the orange one.

"YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME! DON'T LEAVE ME ALL ALONE!"

The sounds of flapping sickened him more, followed by the screaming of the orange drake's mate.

Kara teared up, fighting her urge to run to her mate. Her heart feeling as if it were stabbed with blades. She looked at the yellow life dragon.

"You're a life dragon, bring him back."

Zap sighed and lowered his head.

"I'm sorry, my energy hasn't recovered enough."

Kara growled angerly, backing Zap into a corner. Her paws slammed into either side of the wall. Zap whimpered, trembling in fear of the wind dragoness.

"Bullshit! You mentioned before that you could bring anyone back as long as their death wasn't natural!"

The life dragon slowly looked up at her.

"Even we have our limits. When I brought you back, I had to both call forth your soul and create a new body. I only have energy to bring back his soul, but he would simply die again due to his body's condition."

Zap closed his eyes as he saw Kara raise a paw. But he never felt contact. He opened his eyes and saw that Sithris had caught Kara's paw. The black dragon looked at him.

"Do it."

The life dragon quickly wiggled away and watched as Sithris pulled Kara into a hug as both cried for their lost dragon. Several minutes passed before Sithris licked away Kara's tears and pecked her lips. He turned to Zap and walked to the body of the orange dragon.

"I do have to ask, would you be able to do more if you had the energy of two more dragons."

Zap paused and looked at the ground thinking to himself. He pondered and gulped, picking out his words. Once they were decided, he turned to them.

"Yes and no, maybe, It's a bit complicated. There is a chance that if one dragon has Warp, a bit of the combined life energy of both dragons might be enough. There is a very slim chance that it would actually work."

Sithris nodded, as did Kara. They closed their eyes and concentrated, spheres of energy forming around them. Kara's was pure white, while Sithris' was dark with electricity arcing around it. They both stumbled, feeling the energy leave them, but kept the spheres in place. Zap reluctantly turned to the body of the orange dragon, beginning his process.

Zap chanted in a foreign language, voice almost a mumble. The spheres formed into one, the sounds of wind and electricity emanating from it. With a yell, his paw slammed down, the sphere pushed into the body. Zap panted painfully, collapsing from exhaustion.

Kara ran to him and helped him up, tearing up as Sithris desperately shook Rift's body. Nothing, body in the same condition as before. He screamed and cried, his last hope shattered.

"I can't let you go. I was just a dragon on my own that liked tinkering. But then I met you. You gave me purpose. You gave me someone to care for, don't take that away from me. I... I love you..."

Sithris shuddered and slowly pulled himself up. Looking around his neck, he noticed the crystal necklace. With a roar, he ripped it off and threw it. It flashed, Silvus crashing to the ground.

"Hey, at least give me some warning!"

Sithris sighed, turning away. The last thing he wanted was for the ice dragon to see his dead cousin. To his confusion, Silvus laughed.

"He always was one for heroics. But even more, his stubbornness. I was actually on my way here for this very reason. You did a pretty good job life dragon. You just needed one last thing to finish it, and I have just the thing!"

Fiddling in his bag, Silvus pulled out a Dragonfruit, quickly skinning it and cutting it in half. Tossing one half to Zap, he motioned the life dragon to eat, resulting in his energy restored. The silver dragon turned back to Rift's body, placing the other half in Rift's maw. Silvus quickly backed away. He pulled a bottle from his bag and drank the contents.

"Let's fire this dragon up!"

Silvus spat a fireball from his maw, impacting the body, combusting it into flames. A huge arc of fire flashed and the area began to shake. The flames spun around each other, heat radiating like the sun. With a loud bang, the fire was absorbed into the standing body of an orange dragon.

With the exception of Silvus, the dragons stood in awe. Rift looked nearly completely refreshed. The only noticeable mark was his still present chest wound, though it was now covered in protective orange scales. Sithris didn't notice that his feet were moving quickly to his companion.

Rift smiled and oofed as Sithris crashed into him and cried. Rift rubbed his neck and kissed his forehead. He allowed the black drake and looked into his eyed. He pressed his lips against him and kissed him passionately. He slowly pulled away.

"I love you too."

Kara sprinted over and the three embraced, Zap smiling, and Silvus rolling his eyes. The two walked over to the others and cleared their throats. Rift, Sithris, and Kara blushed and apologised for their public affections. Silvus hugged Rift.

"I'm glad to have you back Cousin, but you still have work to do. You still have to reclaim your guardianship."

Rift nodded, helping everyone prepare. With a determined smirk, the orange dragon lit up a large fireball and they all took off.
