A Frontal Assault
Annoyingly since I have to use the fallback uploader wha you do not see is that the 'dreamscape' is written in italics
I find myself in a ‘modern city’, I see tall mountains surrounding the city. It makes me think of Boulder Colorado, and I look around. The city appears to be empty, but I spy a lone figure looking at me with their arms crossed. I squint my eyes to see them better, it’s a tall and muscular male with blond hair and green eyes. I rush over to him ready to give my brother a hug.
“Arthur! I’ve missed you so much it’s good to see you.” I hug him tight and I pause as he doesn’t hug me back, I take a step back and look at him. He still has his arms crossed and he looks angry. “Is something wrong Arthur?” I ask him wondering why he’s acting this way. He gives me a withering look, “yes Gwen you let me DIE! Why didn’t you stop that Dragon before I was incinerated by her?”
I look at him dumb founded, as far as I knew when you meet spirits who have passed on they don’t remind you of your failures. I spy a large-ish Solar Dragon behind him walking up to him, Arthur looks over his shoulder to her and says pointing at me. “Can you believe this girl? Big time Hunter and she couldn’t even save me from you.”
Zander:
We try shaking her awake again and she just lays there asleep, I look to Alberich. “Can you get into her head at all?” Alberich shakes his head and Starburst looks concerned, “no and she’s been like this for over twenty four hours.” He stomps a fore hoof looking concerned, “I might have to contact Cheshire for this. The circle of mage Gryphons won’t be happy with him taking a pause in his ‘duty’, but she takes precedent over their ‘breeding plans’. Especially if we can’t wake her in the next twenty four hours, because then we’ll know it’s magic induced.” I nod my head and look at her again, if only she wasn’t a Hunter I bet this wouldn’t have been an issue. Alberich leans against my flank, “maybe; but you also wouldn’t have met her then.” I nod my head and we all stare as Gwen utters one word, “Arthur”.
I look surprised as the Dragon nudges Arthur from behind as if playing a game with him, “yes and it took her forever to kill me. Her uncle would have done it much faster, and with less loss of life.” I felt like someone stabbed me in the heart, I already knew that I screwed up on my first few kills as a Hunter. What bother’s me more though is the squad that was killed and eaten by the baby Solar’s.
I then look horrified as I spy the men from the squad each with a hatchling Solar on their shoulders, one speaks. “Yeah and she let these little things eat us alive, because she didn’t want to kill babies.” I start backing up, this was unbelievable. What is going on here?
Arthur looks at me smiling, “something wrong sister dear? Don’t you want to know about all your misdeeds?” I keep backing up until I hit the glass of a shop window, the squad keeps walking towards me. My brother and the big Solar grinning at my discomfort.
Ecthelon:
I block another of Timothy’s strikes as he charges me, he has gotten much better over last few months. I would consider sending him to start training with the Guard if he were of age yet. As Timothy lunges at me in an attempt to switch styles I suddenly feel blinding pain in my head and I collapse. Timothy stops himself before hurting me and leans over to check on me, “head; hurts.” He nods his head and looks up saying to someone, “Get Gilorndir NOW! There is something wrong with the Arms Master.”
Flower and Lance pick me up and move me to Gwen’s table and chairs, gently setting me in one of the seats. I hunch over my head screaming at me, “everyone move back.” I hear Gilorndir say to the children, I then hear his voice from a few feet away. “Tell me what you’re feeling Ecthelon, focus on it.”
I try to focus on the pain and where it comes from and I see Gwen, running from a group of humans and Dragons; inside a dead city. I stand instantly starting to see red, Gilorndir waving the children back. “Tell me friend, what did you see?” I turn my head to where his voice came from, “Gwen is in danger.” I hear apology in his voice as he says, “I just needed confirmation.” I then feel something hit me in the arm and I black out.
I look around for anywhere to go and I see I can run down a side street to my left if I hurry before the squad gets to close. “Are you afraid sister?” My brother laughs at me as I flee down the street. I run for about ten minutes when I spy an open area, I make a dash for it and skid to a stop. The large Manticore was standing in it, it’s human head looks at me; his stinger waving in a mocking way. “You had to sneak up on my brother, you couldn’t even face us one on one. You’re pitiful.” His musical sounding voice says to me, I search for another way out. Why are all the things that are dead who have a beef with me are here.
Ariawyn:
I watch Ecthelon’s bound form on the bed as it thrashes around, then I turn my head to Gilorndir. “What is going on? Do I need to have him put down?” Gilorndir looks horrified at my statement, and shakes his head. “It shouldn’t be necessary, we just have to hope that what ever is going on with her. That her guardians can fix it before he becomes a problem. I have hope that they will.” I nod my head, “well; I am putting guards on him anyway. I will order them to follow your orders in regards to him, they can help restrain him if you need to rebind him.” Gilorndir nods his head in agreement and I walk out of his work room hoping they get Gwen safe before Ecthelon becomes a danger.
Ecthelon:
I find myself in the dead city I saw Gwen running from the humans and Dragons, I look around trying to get my bearings. I hear a male voice similar to Gwen’s say, “are you afraid sister?” I get the feeling that this is a dream scape of some kind, looking around I notice nothing has formed near me. So whom ever is controlling this is focused on Gwen, good. I make a sword form in my hand and I start stalking around looking for Gwen.
Zander:
Another day and now I am watching as Alberich tries to communicate with Cheshire, I could see beads of sweat form on his brow as he tries reaching the cat. I hear an audible pop and I see Cheshire appear next to Alberich, “what do you mean you can’t wake her or talk to her?” Cheshire says, I reach over and pick him up and walk him over to Gwen and drop him on her. “You try, we’ve been trying for two days now to either wake her or communicate with her.” Cheshire gives me a very cat like insulted look then focuses on Gwen.
He spends a few minutes just looking at her, then he starts scanning the area around her. He speaks as he looks, “something is blocking our connection to her; or maybe it’s a ‘someone’.” He turns his head to us for a moment, “I should tell you I can sense she’s in trouble as well. It’s inside her mind however, and one person isn’t blocked from her. However I am not sure if Ecthelon can get her to wake up. We need to discover why she’s like this. I could ‘break into’ her mind, it will cause her some pain, but she might need some help in there.” I look to Alberich, Starburst, and Shadow; they all nod. I turn to Cheshire who is still looking around Gwen, “go ahead. A little discomfort is better than something bad happening to her.” He nods at me and points with a wing off into the woods, “I’d look in that direction for the cause.” He thinks for a minute, “be ready for a fight; I do not know what you will face. One thing though,” he faces all of us. “I do not care what ever they might say, if I have not told you she is in danger do not believe them. They cannot stop me from communicating with you.” We nod our heads at Cheshire and he curls into a ball on Gwen’s chest his wings mantled over her body, and he lays his head down and appears to fall asleep.
I feel a familiar weight land on my shoulders and I feel relief as a hiss exists Cheshire’s small form directed at the Manticore. “I see you are here to prey on her fears beast. Whom ever you are, you tried to keep her protectors from he. Know this, you can’t block me out; and you can’t block out.” A voice I know comes from behind me, “ME for I will always be bound to Gwen. She is the other half of my heart and soul,” I turn to see Ecthelon standing in a fighting stance a sword in his hand. He does a slight nod to me, “not how I wished to tell you; but know this Gwen. We are Prefect Mates, I didn’t know till I saw you. Now know I will always stand beside you, and I will always protect you.”
I hear a rumbley voice echo around us. “This is unfortunate, it was not anticipated that the Hunter would be Mated or that she had such an expert mind mage as a guardian. No matter, we will break her.” I see Arthur walk around from behind a building with the Dragon right behind him. The Manticore grins wickedly as he walks over to my brother and stabs him through the heart with his stinger. “No! Arthur!” I go to rush forward and Ecthelon stops me, and Cheshire gently digs his claws into my shoulder.
“Gwen I know this will be hard,” says Cheshire in my ear. “That is not your brother Arthur, it might look like him. However something has locked you inside your mind, and is using your love for your brother to break you.” He digs in a little deeper, “don’t let them win.”
I watch as my brother falls to the ground his body slowly burning as if acid was poured into his body. He gets an angry look on his face, “see you didn’t save me again Gwen.” The Dragoness gives me a disgusted look, “can’t save your own family Hunter? You had a chance to and you didn’t take it,” I shudder and feel Ecthelon’s arm go around my waist. “Gwen, it’s not your brother. Your uncle told me of your brother, he would never accuse you of not helping him. You can fight this Gwen, ignore what their faces look like.” He turns to face me, “listen. This is a dream scape, you have power here. Especially since it is formed in your own mind, Just imagine a clear space and everything should vanish.”
I do as Ecthelon suggests, and the city vanishes as do the beings around me aside from Cheshire and Ecthelon. A figure then appears in front of us, it doesn’t look quite like a human. It looks like one of those images of what they thought a Cro Magnon looked like. Except this one had fangs, and red eyes.
I hear Ecthelon intake a breath, then he looks at Cheshire. “Did you know there was a vampire class from back then?” I could feel Cheshire shift his weight, “no. However, that does not mean there was not any.” I tilt my head, “that’s real then? A Cro Magnon vampire?” The vampire opens it’s mouth in an exaggerated manner speaking with a hiss in it’s voice. “Of course you silly Hunter, we even had mages. Since I cannot break you I shall have to just tear you apart outside of your mind.” He looks to Cheshire, “good luck trying to break her out before I get there cat.”
