Secondly I am "NOT' an English major I scraped by with a d average in school and do not need criticism on my writing abilities. This is a story of MY mind. There is no reason to tell me that I flunked in the English department.
This book is ongoing and I'm not sure when or how it will end as of yet. I have spells of inspiration and dry spells where I can't think of anything to write about. My real life is so boring that I created this world in my mind to have something to do.
Otherwise enjoy the story and understand that my life was influenced by authors such as Terry Brooks, J.J.R. Tolkien, and Ray Bradbury and several of the artists in SoFurry and the old Yiffstar.
Chapter 4
The next morning there was a knock at my door. When I answered it, it was Alicia and Aramis saying that their mother asked me to come over. I told the children that I would be over after I got cleaned up. With that they headed off to play.
When I got to my new neighbors house, Herod seemed to be gone and Doreen smiled as I entered the house.
She then said to me, "Herod told me about how bad it went for you last night and I want you to know that if you need someone to release your pent up energy, both Herod and I am willing to allow you to use me."
I looked at Doreen totally stunned. "You mean to say the both of you say it's alright for me to have sex with you?"
She then came over to me and softly said, "Herod told me how badly you feel and I want to help you feel better."
Looking into those wonderful eyes I said, "Doreen, even though it is a great honor to have both of you willing to allow me to do this, I cannot. Where I come from this is considered wrong and I would never do anything like that to cause any problems between us."
She smiled at me wantonly and asked, "Are you sure that you wouldn't like to try and find out if I'm what you want?"
I looked at her and said, "How can I say this without causing problems. Yes I would love to have sex with you, and I'm sure I would love how it feels to have you in my bed, but then there's my conscience which would then keep telling me how badly I messed up the closest friends I've had since I was a young man and I couldn't live with that."
Doreen then smiled at me and said, "I thank you for your honesty. It makes me feel good to know that it is not because of my child birth shape that has stopped you from mating me but the thought of creating a rift between you and my family. I'm not too sure that it would of but I can say that I am glad you said no."
"Doreen if you were not Herod's, I might of thought otherwise, but I care for your family too much to ever do such a thing."
She smiled at me and then reached over and hugged me too her and softly said, "Herod will be happy with your choice as well."
To my surprise I heard the sound of hoofs on my front porch and a soft knock and watched as Herod entered my house.
Herod then said, "You are full of surprises, my young friend. I am gladdened by the knowledge of your morals not allowing you to take my missus. I am however perplexed by the thought of how lonely you seem to be."
I replied, "I'll get over it."
He gave me a half hearted smile and said, "I believe you will eventually. I just hope it's soon enough."
I said, so do I, Herod, so do I."
With that Herod and Doreen left again thanking me for not accepting there offer.
Remembering that Herod had said that I shouldn't be outside after dark on the night before, during and the night after the full moon, this being the night after, I decided to go for a walk after I was sure they were gone for now. I headed out towards the town park. When I got there, there were several animal anthromorph pairs walking together or sitting on the benches. This made me feel even sadder wishing that I was one of them.
I thought to myself, there must be something wrong with me to make me be alone so much. I slowly walked on towards the far side of the park. To my surprise I saw a creature that looked like a female skunk morph sitting alone and crying. She was obviously upset for some reason and even though I was in a severe depression, I decided to try and cheer her up if I could.
I walked near to her and noticed that the skunk scent of my world didn't seem to be around her. Matter of fact there seemed to be a smell closer to lily of the valley coming from her. I approached easily not trying to startle her.
When I had gotten within speaking range of her I said, "Is there anything I can do to help you young lady?"
She jumped at my voice and yelled at me, "What do you want?" and then she looked at me and saw that I was alone as well.
I said, "All I want to do is see if there was anything that I could do to help you. I hate to see anyone crying and was wondering if I could help in any way to make you feel better."
She then lashed out at me saying. "How dare you think that anything you could do would possibly make me feel better!!! You men only want one thing and when it doesn't make you feel good anymore you run off to the next piece. Now leave me alone and get lost."
Feeling the scathing hatred in her voice I turned and started away with my head lowered and as I began walking away I said to her, "Sorry to have bothered you." And walked away with even more depression than I had before.
"Even a lady who seems hurt by someone doesn't even want to talk with me." I said softly just within earshot of her as I walked away.
Not bothering to look back I didn't see that she looked towards me and saw the hurt in my expression. She then surprised me by calling back to me, "Please wait a second."
She then wiped her eyes and walked towards me. As she got closer to me she asked, "Why are you here in the park alone? This is the hang out park for mates and lovers."
I looked at her and replied, "I don't have anyone to call either a mate or lover. I am alone, I think more now than before I crossed over to here."
She gave me a questioning look and said, "Crossed over? From where?"
I then said to her, "Can we go back to the bench and I'll tell you my life story. I promise not to try anything with you, just talk."
She nodded and we went back to the bench and sat down.
I explained to her the life history that brought me here. From the death of my family to the discovery of the teleporter. I then told her of the deer family that had befriended me and how I have for the past six months have tried to find someone to be with and how I haven't found anyone that even wanted to do more than ask me for my money to help them out.
She listened to me and when I finished I said, "And that is my story. I'm alone and lonely and I saw a young lady crying and realized a kindred spirit, which caused me to try to talk to you."
She then said, "I'm sorry, I just assumed you were someone looking for a quickie for the night from someone on the rebound."
She then continued on with, "My boyfriend just left me saying that I stink too much for him to put up with and that he has someone else he's been seeing."
I said, "Oh, I'm so sorry."
She then cocked her head and asked, "Why are you able to be near me? Most everyone else finds me offensive smelling and try to avoid me..."
I then replied, "Where I come from, your species have a musk that is based on a sulfur compound that is quite potent and I do avoid them there, but you smell quite wonderful to me. We have a flower in my old world that your scent reminds me of. They are grown in large quantities for perfumes to help hide the smell of our own bodies.
"You think I smell good?" she asked.
"You smell wonderful to me and I would never have willingly let you to get away from me if you had been mine." I said.
When I said that, even through the black fur of her face I could see she was blushing. She turned away to hide the fact from me.
She said, "My name is Herminie and would you like to get a bite to eat or something.
I replied, "I would be honored to have dinner with you my dear."
She then said, "First I need to go home and get cleaned up a bit. Would you mind waiting for me to get ready."
I replied, "No I don't mind at all."
I stood up and before she got up by herself I held out my hand to help her up. She was surprised by the fact that I was treating her so nicely and she took my hand and I helped her to her feet.
Herminie then said, "I haven't found a gentleman in a long time."
I replied, "Madame, you never found me before." And I bowed to her.
Herminie giggled at that. I stuck my arm out for her to place her arm into and walked her through the park towards her place. On the way she made sure the others in the park took notice of me holding her close to me.
When we reached her place she said, "Come on in. it will only take me a few minutes to get ready." She then looked down embarrassed again and said softly, "thank you for walking me home like that. It made me feel good for the first time in a long time."
I looked to Herminie, reached out my hand to raise her face to see mine and said, "It was my pleasure to make you feel that way, so don't be ashamed by it."
She said, "Make yourself comfortable, I'll be ready in a few minutes." She then went into another room to get ready for dinner.
I sat in a chair and when I sat down I noticed a distinct smell coming from the chair. Where Herminie had smelled like lilies of the valley this smelled more like horse manure. Standing back up I turned around and sniffed the chair bottom and sure enough it was coming from the chair. I walked silently over to another chair and sniffed it. It smelled of her lily scent so I sat there.
After a few she came back into the living room and asked, "How do I look?"
Looking her over, I saw she had brushed her fur out and had washed the tear stains from her face and again my mind thought, why the hell would anyone leave such a beauty. I said, "You look stunning."
Herminie smiled at me and said, "thank you."
I stood and we went to the door and stepped out. She closed the door and I proffered my arm and she said, "Thank you but I have a better idea." She wrapped her arm around my waist and asked, "Can we walk like this instead?"
I stammered over the feelings in my mind and managed to say. "That would be lovely." I placed my arm around her waist as well and we headed to the restaurant.
I was surprised at how many of the others stared at us as we walked by them and I asked Herminie, "Why are they staring at us like that."
She replied with a giggle, "They can't believe that anyone but another skunk would be with a skunk."
"Well then they will just have to stare, won't they?" I said with a chuckle
Upon entering the restaurant we were seated and the waiter came over. He recognized me and handed us a couple of menus. I was suddenly struck that maybe Herminie may be a vegetarian and would think me a monster for wanting meat.
She saw the look of concern flash across my face and asked, "What's the matter?"
I stammered, "It's just that, I, er, I like meat and just thought how rude it would be for me to eat meat in front of someone who doesn't."
Herminie giggled and then said, "Don't worry then, I am an omnivore. I eat everything."
She watched the stress melt away from me in an instant.
The waiter returned after a few and asked what we wanted for dinner.
After placing our orders, I asked him to bring some of the fine ale that they made.
Herminie and I made some useless small talk over dinner and we slowly drank the ale after dinner.
Herminie then suddenly asked, "Where do you live?"
I replied, "I own the farm on the other side of town near my friends Herod and Doreen."
She then said sort of randomly, "I've heard of them they have a couple of children, don't they?"
I replied, "Yes they have two children, one girl and one boy."
Herminie then said, "I heard that they came into some large amounts of copper and shared it with a stranger who was quite rich. Is that you?"
I thought, here we go with the gimme's, and said, "Yes I am the one."
She smiled at me and then said, "No wonder you can't find anyone who you can care for. All that the other women wanted of you was money, didn't they?"
I nodded to her and softly said, "Yes they did, are you going to join them?"
She looked at me with a flash of anger. She then relaxed and said, "I guess you have that right to ask. No I am not going to ask you for money. We don't know each other well enough for me to beg for anything from you. I would however like to see your place. After all you already know where I live."
We left the restaurant and after getting out of earshot of the others I said, "I'm sorry for back there."
Herminie replied, "Don't be, I understand why you said it. Just remember I never asked you for anything except if you really meant that I don't stink to you."
I stopped and looked at her directly in the eyes and said, "You smell so wonderful to me that I would almost be willing to get sprayed by the skunks in my world just to be with you."
Herminie again blushed but this time she stood her ground. "You barely know me and you act like you want to be my lover."
I replied, "I'm sorry if I'm making you uncomfortable but you are the first lady I have met here that seems truly interested in something besides money. That coupled with the way I found you crying on a bench made my heart want to reach out to you, so maybe I am."
She looked at me with something akin to a gleam in her eye and asked, "you wouldn't mind being with a skunk for the rest of your life?"
I then thought it over how to say what I wanted and then stated, "Yes I would mind being with any old skunk for the rest of my life, but being with you, however, would give me no greater pleasure in life."
Herminie looked at me with shock on her face. She staggered slightly so I guided her to a park bench and helped her sit down. She said softly, "This is just too fast."
I replied, "I understand, but I want to let you see how I truly feel."
She sat there for a bit and the color returned to her face and she said, "We can go on to your place now, it's getting late."
With that I helped her up and we walked on barely saying anything to each other. I thought to myself, you've screwed up another chance you dumb ass. She went with me to the entrance of my ranch where she stood and looked at the spance of it and she asked, "How big is it?"
"Over two hundred fifty acres." I replied.
She just looked at it in awe and I saw some kind of thought process going on in her head as she looked at the expanse of my land. "You are the only person here?" she asked.
I replied, "The only people near me are my friends Doreen, Herod and the kids about a half mile that way," pointing to my left.
She stood there looking around and I could see she was thinking heavily over something. She turned towards me and asked, "Can I see the house?"
"It would be my pleasure," and took her hand and walked into the house.
I showed her the living room first being it was where the door accessed, then I took her on through to the kitchen, I then showed her the root cellar area attached to the kitchen, then I showed her to the bedrooms. First the master bedroom and then the guests/children's rooms. Finally to the study area where I did most of my relaxing.
She was very interested in all the rooms of the place asking questions about one thing or another but never going on for very long about any of the rooms. She did however, while in the kitchen ask, "Who does your cooking?"
"I do," I replied.
After the tour of the house I asked, "Would you like to sit on the porch and watch the sunset with a glass of ale?"
Herminie looked out the west window and was horror stricken to see that indeed the sun was setting. "Oh my god.
It's too late for me to get back to my place before the night creatures come out."
I asked, "Would you have rather gone to your place? I'll take you back and risk it myself."
"NO" Herminie said, "I'll just have to stay here tonight."
"I'll fix the guest room for you then," I said.
