we went into the back room of the shop and Jess grabbed a small package and tossed it to me.
"What's this?"
"Some Camo fatigues, I don't even want to ask how you got so much blood and gore on you."
"Thanks, so where are we going?"
"How bout my place, my dad had it built like a bunker."

He said something once about taking a shot from a grassy knoll but I never figured out what he meant.
As we drove through the town we witnessed several furs and humans being killed and changed. Jess did manage to run down a few unlucky zombies but other than that the drive was pretty uneventful.
As we pulled up to the house my jaw hit the floor. It looked like an explosion had caused the cliff to collapsed, completely covering the house.
After a long moment of silence I spoke up." Any idea where to go now?"
"We could roam from town to town gathering supplies."
"I meant for tonight."
"There are some blankets under the back seat. We could climb up top and sleep there."
After talking about our other operations we grabbed the devices that would work for tonight. After spreading the blankets out for padding we folded up another one to use for a pillow. "Really?"

"Let's help that guy, it looks like he's hit."
Jess leaned out her window and fired. I watched as bullets tore through the attackers. We pulled up next to the injured fur and hopped out. I saw she was husky close to our age. "Looks like the bullet went all the way through, she's in shock."
"What can I do?"
"Nothing for now."
Jess finished treating the wound and we put her in the backseat. We drove down the road a bit and found a hotel. I carried the girl while Jess shot any zombies that noticed us. We grabbed the keys to a suite and headed upstairs. I laid the girl on one bed before collapsing on the other. It was already getting dark so Jess curled up against me and we fell asleep.
I woke up hearing someone whimpering. I realized it was the husky and woke Jess. She grabbed a small bottle and a syringe she had left on the dresser. After giving the girl an injection of what Jess said were painkillers, we went back to sleep for a few more hours.
The next day the husky woke us up by groggily asking "where am I, who are you and what happened to my pants?"
Jess spoke up "you're in a hotel and we're the ones that saved your life. I had to cut your pants off to treat your wound properly. Hey Red will you go find us some breakfast please?"
"Ya sure, any requests?"
"How bout some coffee?" The husky asked.
"I'm sure I can find some." I smiled and walked off.
I went downstairs and found the kitchen. I opened a fridge and got hit with a blast of cold air. "Guess the Powers still on." I grabbed eggs, bacon, sausage, and some frozen hash browns. I found some skillets and started to cook it all. I even found some coffee for the husky and started the coffee machine.
By the time all food was done the coffeemaker had started to beep. I grabbed a tray and several plates dumping all the food on them. I then placed the coffeepot in the middle of the tray and carried it upstairs. I knocked on the door and called "room service."
Jess opened the door and her eyes went wide " where did you find all this?"
"In the kitchen of course, Now let's eat I'm starving."
We all sat around the small table and started eating. Once we were done we sat back on the beds and sipped our coffee.
"So I'm Red, what's your name?"
"I'm Alex and I've already talked to Jess about how you guys survived and saved me. I know you didn't have to so thanks."
"Well it was mostly her but, you're welcome."
After that we all chatted and decided to stay in the mysteriously zombie free hotel. After a couple weeks we had a pretty good fort set up. We had barricaded all the doors and windows on the lower floor and parked the Humvee in a loading bay out back. Alex's leg had healed up pretty well thanks to Jess and she had moved into another room to give us some privacy. She had even become a pretty good marksman. The only bad thing was that the power had shut off and we had run out of fresh food. We still had plenty of MRE's and we had found an old well outside.
Everything was going great for now.
