Becoming a Good Boy, Part One
#99 of Transformation Stories
The best gifts are the ones that make you the happiest; the amount of money spent isn't what matters as much as what the gift means to someone. In this first story of a brief series for Fletcher, we get a look at how spending a little more for a higher quality gift can pay massive dividends!
The first portion follows Anthony: A young man that happens to have a tough time dealing with the cold of winter. He's coming down a literal and figurative case of the blues, and nothing seems to be able to snap him out of it...until his boyfriend, Jason, returns to their apartment with a special gift.
It's an elaborate gift to start: the appearance is almost spot on for Anthony's fursona, but without a body inside of it, he's struggling to imagine it looking right. With Jason's help, however, he climbs into the tight, stretchy material and watches as it bonds so close to him that he feels like he's gained a second skin...until the connection becomes such that he forgets the first one.
Once the head is slipped on, Anthony feels his mind starting to slip away, as well, as if the suit is not just a costume, but a gateway to becoming who Anthony feels he is inside!

Anthony was just as much of a victim to the doldrums of winter as anybody else.
The glow of a smartphone illuminated his face and left shadows under the bones of his cheeks as he held it up, the rest of his body sprawled out over the couch. Soft cushions made for a relaxing embrace that was hard to escape from, and winter's chill added an ethereal weight to the blanket over his torso.
Even when the front door to his condo opened, the only thing that lifted was his head, tilting up slightly at the neck. "Does anyone knock anymore?"
"I've never had to knock before," Jason replied as he stepped in from the cold. "Besides, you knew I was gonna be back later today."
A box was tucked under Jason's arm, grabbing hold of Anthony's interest, but not so much that it begged an immediate question. "Fair point," he admitted. "You mind shutting the door? It feels bitterly cold out there."
"Speaking of the bitter cold..."
Anthony's voice turned dreadful. "...What?"
"You ready to go for that run that you promised me earlier?"
Jason was all pep as the words left his mouth, but they soured Anthony's eardrums. "I'm not getting out from under this blanket anytime soon."
"Still gonna try to use the excuse that it's too cold to go for a run?"
"Am I wrong?"
"You wouldn't be, if not for the surprise I brought you!"
Now the box was a bit more interesting.
Anthony cocked a brow and sat upright as Jason set the package on the far end of the couch. "Unless it's a pair of running shoes that magically change the weather, I don't think whatever's in there is gonna make me go outside."
"It's not that impressive, but I'm pretty sure you'll find something magical about it," Jason claimed. He was already tearing open the top of the box for Anthony when the latter began tossing his blanket to the side to take a closer look. "Call it a hunch, but I think you'll feel a lot better when you put this on."
From within an ordinary box of brown cardboard came the rustle of fur that was so perfectly silver, it actually shimmered, even on the gloomiest of winter days. "You actually got me a fur coat?" Anthony began to question, until he saw the elongated neck of the suit as it was pulled free. Silver and grey tones gave way to a brilliant underbelly of white, and at the very top, the neck filled out into the underside of a muzzle-shaped face.
If he didn't know any better, Anthony would have guessed that Jason literally skinned a husky to create the outfit: it looked frighteningly lifelike.
"A fur coat might have been more practical, but I felt like this would be a better motivator for you," Jason suggested. He wasn't a furry, himself, but he knew all about Anthony's lifestyle and found it fascinating, even if he didn't take part in it. "If we snapped you up in this, I bet you'd be running laps around the block in no time!"
Anthony was already struggling to find the words to express his gratitude, but a small grin was cracking the corner of thinned, surprised lips. "You...y-you actually want me to go run laps in a fursuit?" he asked, trying not to chuckle at the thought. Striking eyes of icy blue kept Anthony from giggling too much, but the idea was still a little unusual. "It's really sweet of you to have done all of this for me, but there's no way I'd fit in that thing; maybe when I was a teenager I would have had a chance to squeeze into it."
Jason seemed to be expecting some hesitation, keeping him from frowning as Anthony criticized his new gift. "Believe it or not, this thing cost a lot more than your fursuit did."
"...Really?"
" A lot ," he repeated. "I know it looks tight, but the material will stretch to fit your body, I promise."
Watching as Jason pinched one of the arm sleeves and pulled it wide enough to squeeze around his thigh, Anthony was immediately sold on the outfit being pliable enough, but he was still bashful at the concept of working out in such a thing.
"That'll probably work," he agreed with a little less confidence, "But still, working out in a fursuit just doesn't feel like the best idea..."
"Just give it a chance?"
Anthony was already embarrassed at the idea of jogging around his neighborhood in such a flaunting outfit, but the suit was utterly gorgeous in detail; it was begging to be worn without saying a word.
Though he rolled his eyes first, Anthony finally reached out and gripped the suit by the chest. "_Fine..._but only because this was really thoughtful of you."
Any excuse for him to put on the new fursuit was good enough for Jason, who immediately beamed at the thought. He yielded the husky skin and tried not to cheer too loud as his fiancé stood up from the couch and curled his fingertips at the hem of his shirt.
"I promise you won't regret it," Jason made a bold statement as the shirt came up over Anthony's head. "This is gonna look perfect on you!"
Squirming his way out of the cozy pajama bottoms that were a fitting compliment for a lazy day on the couch, Anthony still wasn't completely sold on the concept. He was down to his boxers in seconds, but feeling the suit in his fingers once more forced him to shake his head.
"Still can't imagine this is gonna work," he bemoaned, even as he admired the pattern of the fur coat on the outside. "Looks like it was made for a ten year old..."
"Well, it's not gonna work like that."
"Like what?"
Jason stepped around the edge of the couch, never taking the weight of his eyes from Anthony's partial nudity. "The suit has an interior lining," he explained, all while reaching a hand into the waistline of his lover's boxers. "It'll feel a lot better if these aren't in the way."
Before Anthony could protest, cotton fabric was yanked out of the way so that every inch of his body could feel the pleasant snug of performance Lycra. His length sprang forward at the sudden freedom and warmth rushed to his face in a bashful moment, but he was already this far along.
He wasn't going to hesitate just because his excitement was becoming visibly obvious.
"Did you test this thing out first or something?" he felt the need to ask, knowing that Jason didn't share the same interest in the fandom that he did. "It's almost like you're trying to sell this to me instead of just _giving_it to me."
"Just trying to get rid of any last second hesitation you might have," Jason confessed. "I've been planning this for a while, and it's really exciting to finally see the moment of truth!"
Sitting on the edge of the couch, Anthony picked up the suit once more and held the stretchy skin out in front of him, looking at it as if he were a tourist trying to read a map in a foreign language. "It doesn't count as hesitation if I can't figure out how to put it on, right?"
The head of the suit was attached to the neck, and at the ends of each sleeve were a set of hand and foot paws, respectively. He couldn't see any seams to take advantage of, and knowing the cost, he was dearly afraid of damaging the outfit the very first time he wore it.
"The seams are all stitched on the inside," Jason explained. "That's why you can't see the one at the top."
Adding both to the functionality and realism of the suit, everything appeared as one piece from the outside. That didn't help Anthony to feel anymore comfortable about putting the suit on in the first place, but the more that he gave the idea consideration, the more he felt like it would at least be fun to try.
The encouraging looks from Jason helped him along, but he still couldn't figure out where he was supposed to put his hands in.
"So...where's the hole, exactly?"
"Oh! Right. You wouldn't know where to look, would you?" Jason made a silly face as he took the suit from Anthony one more time and made a gesture at the head. "This is what I was talking about when I said there was a seam near the top. It's hidden so well that once you've got this on, no one will know if you're a dog, or a human!"
It was disconcerting to hear a fleshy squelch as Anthony pushed a finger along the hidden seam and literally popped the head from the outfit, but with just a little urging, the head separated from the rest of the body. It produced such a small hole that Anthony was already starting to wonder how he'd ever be able to fit inside, but as Jason set the head on the couch, he gave a quick tug with his fingers, revealing just how stretchy the neck was.
With just a little urging, it went from the average size of the neck it was meant to imitate to nearly the size of a hula hoop.
"And it...it just snaps right back into place?" Anthony was still beside himself with disbelief, but Jason was already kneeling down by his ankles, encouraging him to slip his feet into the widened gap. "That stuff must be made out of some serious space-age material."
"For the price, this suit will do almost anything you ask it to," Jason teased. "But I can't show you any of those cool features til it's all the way on."
Jason wanted him to jump right in, but Anthony approached more timidly, like a child dipping their toes into chilly water. His feet hesitantly stepped into the open neck, allowing Jason to crumple the suit upward, guiding his toes into the waiting holsters at the bottom of each foot paw.
The gliding touch of the lycra across his skin was more comforting than he expected, and the memory of the first time he tried wearing fancy, expensive socks immediately came to the front of his mind. For Anthony, it was already chilling to see his toes disappear inside of the sleeves, but as Jason snugged everything into place, he felt the slots around his toes growing tighter and tighter, as if they were trying to squeeze his digits out of existence.
As it happened, he could feel one of them shrinking down; when he tried to wiggle his pinky toes, there was no sensation, until the paws on the outside of the suit began to inflate again.
"See what I mean about the realism factor? It's pretty incredible, isn't it?"
Wiggling all of his toes the best that he could, Anthony looked down, bewildered. He could see the shape of his feet changing to such a perfect replica of a canine suit that it was hard to believe he was wearing anything at all.
He was sure that he was stretching all five of his toes, but only four appeared on the outside of the suit; that fact shook him to his core as he tried to make sense of what had just happened to his body, but much more than fear, there was satisfaction in looking down and seeing paws where there had once been feet.
"I'm staring right at them, but...I...I can't believe those are mine ," Anthony's voice was dripping with disbelief as he stepped in place a few times, testing out the changes on the underside of the suit. Where toes should have been striking the ground, he could feel thick, durable pads forming, just the same as he would have found on the paws of any other canine.
Instead of a texture through a shoe, however, he could feel them; their dexterity and limits were quickly becoming his own.
"That's the beauty of this suit, really. It's so realistic that you won't be able to tell yourself apart from a dog walking down the street!" Jason was still hyping the product up, but it was becoming unnecessary; Anthony was already buying into it and grinning from ear to ear as he watched Jason pushing up on the back of his calves. "Just wait until you see what kind of legs this thing can give you..."
Having expected nothing more than a body-tight suit before, Anthony was thrilled to see the shape of his calves changing as soon as they were concealed. His entire posted arched forward slightly as legs that made more sense for the shape of his footpaws began to develop: it was a slow change at first, allowing him to acclimate to the shifting of tendons and sinew, but once the lyrca was grabbing all the way up to his knee, things kicked into high gear.
He'd always wondered how it felt to have proper, hind legs. The shape and the angle of his shins were giving him a solid preview of that sensation, and even before the suit was up to his thighs, he could feel the rest of his body starting to crook in anticipation of the new posture he'd adapt.
Anthony took so long finding the gumption to try the suit on that he was shocked at how quickly it was working, now that it was finally embracing his skin.
"It looks like I'm getting into better shape just from trying this thing on," Anthony admired his legs as he kicked them up in the air just a little bit, leaning back into the couch with a smile. "I wish it was always that easy!"
"It's definitely flattering," Jason agreed. "And I think you'll find running on four legs to be a lot more enjoyable than running on two..."
Anthony's joy was marred by a quick cock of the brow. "Why...w-why would I be running on four legs?"
The lyrca was grabbing onto him so tightly that he couldn't fathom ever separating it from his skin, but that wasn't quite enough of a sign for Anthony to accept the reality of what the suit was doing to him.
Even as Jason pushed it up toward his groin and covered up the rest of his thighs, he wasn't entirely sure that he believed what was happening.
It was the snicker from Jason that helped to drive the point home, as he delicately lowered the crotch of the suit over Anthony's own body, covering up the sight of his cock and surrounding it with the lycra.
"You really have to ask?" Jason posited, hesitating at the moment of truth. Though Anthony was still a little nervous, a smirk was forming on his lips to try and match Jason's own devious grin.
Right at the front of the crotch, there was a perfect replica of a sheath, but just how realistic it was couldn't be fully appreciated by sight. Anthony had to feel the material working over the shaft of his member, encompassing it and drawing it forward, until a tiny hint of red began poking out of the field of white.
Disbelief went out the window, replaced by a playful wink from Anthony. Jason rolled his eyes in reply as he continued to smooth the suit up the front of his crotch, pushing it toward his torso and tummy.
"I guess you're enjoying this more than you originally let on," Jason murmured. He couldn't help being distracted by the slowly growing tip of pinkish-red that emerged from the naturally designed sheath, but with a brief shake of his head, he turned his gaze back to Anthony. "Well, you'll just have to play with your new toy later, I'm afraid...you still owe me a run."
Flustered at getting so carried away, warmth flushed Anthony's cheeks, but it didn't slow Jason's progress. Each time he gave the lower half of the suit a tug, it grabbed onto Anthony's hidden body and clung in place, the lycra acting as though it were plastic wrap, stretched over the top surface of a bowl. Everything held tight the entire way up his stomach, and from just above his backside, he could feel a new pressure thumping against the couch as somehow, the artificial tail on the suit started wagging.
Whether his spine was actually elongating to fill the gap, or if it was just his imagination and the suction of the lycra, Anthony couldn't turn his head far enough to see.
That said, he was _desperately_trying to see as canine curiosity became more than a personality trait. His hips were wiggling from the wag of the new tail, adding a new depth of challenge for Jason as he tried to steady Anthony for the front legs.
"This is so cool," Anthony found his voice again as his right hand was pushed into the empty sleeve of the right arm. The comfortable lining urged his wrist forward until his fingers once again locked into tiny hooks of fabric, but before he could even try to make a fist, he felt his thumb somehow integrating with the lining. "It's...it's like this suit is already a part of me or something!"
His talkative nature was a bit of a change of pace, but a welcome one for Jason, who knew for a fact that there were five hooks in each paw...but only four digits actually emerged as the sleeve was tightened up to his shoulder.
"That's the best part about the material. It really helps to immerse you into the experience," Jason agreed. "Speaking of the experience...down, boy! It'll be easier to get that other sleeve on your arm if you're on all fours."
Narrowing his eyes, but then rolling them with a smile that betrayed his annoyance, Anthony sprung up from the couch and made his way to the floor, moving awkwardly on his hind legs at first. The slack of the suit on the back end was pulled snug over his rump and lower back, cementing the place of the tail and giving it the foundation to wag rapidly enough to match Anthony's excitement.
Everything was truly starting to come together, and even as his right arm began to shift into a straightened, upright stance, Jason was moving around to his left arm, pulling the rest of the suit over his back and stretching it just far enough to fit around Anthony's form.
His left hand disappeared into the sleeve before Jason was even ready to place it for him. Anthony was the more eager of the two parties at that point, and as his digits melded into the inside of the sleeve and five became four once more, he popped up in the middle of the living room floor, standing on all fours without any sort of a bend in his bones.
It was an unusual stance for someone that still had a human mind, but as his physiology changed, his mind started to go with it; he didn't even question the excited sway of his hips or the wag of his tail any longer, thinking that it would have been weirder if they weren't moving.
"You're almost there, dude. Just a couple of steps left to go."
The slow, rhythmic wagging of the tail picked up into a blur as Jason stepped around the side of Anthony, inspecting each crease of the suit. He wanted to make sure that everything had grabbed as tightly as possible, but already, Anthony didn't look like the man that was sitting on the couch that afternoon.
Tight, slender muscles coated every inch of his frame from the neck down, giving him the appearance of a canine that was in peak condition. A simple brush of the fingertips across them revealed how firm and sturdy they were, all while drawing a happy rumble from the back of Anthony's throat.
Like a pup, he leaned into the touch, happy to feel a quick pet or stroke anywhere that his companion might offer it. There were plenty of ways that Jason could encourage him now, but he felt that the best way was to give him a chance to get used to the new body in a controlled environment.
"You should be able to move just fine, now. How does it feel?"
His legs were trembling just a bit as he took his first couple of steps; there was still a slight detach between the human mind and the more canine body, but Anthony could feel the advantages immediately. His paws began moving forward with uncertainty at first, and after a lap or two around the living room, he pranced with a bit more confidence. His hind legs were the hardest part to control, but between the playful wag of his tail and the slow pace set by his front legs, he was learning quick.
When he was ready for a break, he stopped in front of the mirror in the other room and tried to sit down like he normally would have, but his brain corrected the output for him: front legs stayed straight and came down in front of him as he sat back on his muscular haunches, the picture of a dog that had been ordered to sit.
Even though he saw his own majesty in the mirror, there was a final moment of disbelief that came along with actually existing in that state.
"This...really isn't a dream, is it?"
"No, you're not dreaming," Jason confirmed. "Probably does feel a bit like a dream come true, though. Are you happy with it?"
His tail was wagging across the floor so fast that Jason could feel the tiny breeze it generated. "I don't know if I could be much happier, honestly. T...Thank you, Jason."
It warmed his heart to hear such a response, but as he stood behind Anthony and noticed the awkward crook in his neck, he gave the encased human a final stroke on the middle of the back. "It's my pleasure, Anthony. There is one way it could get a little better, though. You just have to keep trusting me a little bit longer."
After what Jason had done for him, Anthony couldn't imagine having any problem trusting his companion ever again. "If you really think it gets any better than this, I'm curious to see how."
Scooping up the detached head from the other room and holding it over Anthony's head so he could see just what it would look like on the outside, Jason stood at the moment of truth, keeping a solid grip on the base of the neck hole. "I think you'll like it even more if you're fully immersed, but be aware; you won't be able to talk or remove it once I put it on you."
Permanent as that change sounded, Anthony was convinced that there had to be a way to reverse it, but even if there wasn't...he wanted to see what would happen.
With a nod, he gestured up to the top of his head. "Let's try it."
Anthony looked up into the wide, open neck of the head and saw that it looked completely dark inside, as if there was no way for light to enter. He expected there to be holes for eye sockets and somewhere for his ears to go, but as the material sealed up to itself at the neck, he was completely encased in darkness.
Wincing his eyes shut tight, he managed to ward off his momentary panic long enough to open his eyes again, only to find that he could see the world around him perfectly. Something was different about the way everything looked, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what.
Lifting his front paws up to his face didn't help matters, serving only to mess with his sense of balance as the head tightened down to the bone structure of his face. Anthony stumbled, but caught himself in time to keep his muzzle from slapping into the floor.
He still came closer to hitting it than he expected, and it was with a start that he realized the front of the mask wasn't hollow. There was a perfect replica of an average, canine muzzle right where it should have been, but a quick brush of his pawpads along the bridge revealed not just an expansion of flesh and bone filling it, but nerves had come to life there, allowing him to feel his own touch in a space that he didn't know he was occupying.
His mind didn't have a chance to settle on the curiosity of his shifting flesh for long.
"That...s-smell..." he tripped over his words as he opened his mouth, finding the muzzle adapted to the lines of his lips so well that he could feel jowls at the corners of his smile. It was growing wider as the scents of the world assaulted his newly enhanced nostrils, and atop his head, ears wiggled all on their own, flicking in the direction of whatever sound caught his fancy.
He didn't know how obvious it would be, but Anthony was grinning as wide as his new form would allow, complete with a long, flopping tongue that hung out through a lower row of fangs.
His expression spoke volumes more than his grateful words would have, but he still looked up at Jason and howled, trying to tell him how appreciative he was. His words were already becoming garbled, but there was no mistaking the tone of a canine that was happy and grateful to its new owner.
"There isn't a more handsome dog in the world," Jason claimed, happily kneeling down by Anthony and stroking an open palm through the fluff on the side of his cheek. "But this good boy needs just one more thing before we head out for our run."
Buried in his pocket was an item that would have been a dead giveaway about the results of the new bodysuit, if Jason had presented it earlier. There was no better time than right then, however, for him to pull the custom collar of soft, sky blue fabric from his pocket.
It was nearly a perfect match for Anthony's bright, canine eyes, and without skipping a beat, Anthony slurped Jason's cheek as he leaned in close and clasped the collar around his neck. Jason smiled brightly and dragged his fingertips along the side of Anthony's ear, scratching the base of it and drawing a quick, subtle kick from one of his hind legs. "I'm glad you like it, Fletcher..."
The tag on the collar read Fletcher, as a final, pleasant surprise, capping off a change that couldn't have made him happier.
To anyone who hadn't watched that change, they'd think that Fletcher was just another dog, but to Jason, he would never be just another dog.
**
With Anthony fully changed for their run, Jason made quick work of tossing on his own compression gear and shorts, ready to get out and take advantage of the small gap that they had between snowstorms.
He came back into the living room with a chuckle, seeing Anthony trot around the floor with a little awkwardness in his step. There wasn't a lot of room for such a large canine to move around and build up speed, but he was starting to get the hang of a faster cadence when Jason grabbed his keys for the front door.
"You just might be able to keep up like that," he teased, letting his new canine companion out into the hall of their apartment building. "Hopefully I can wear you out enough that you'll actually get a good night of sleep for once!"
Fletcher was going to make his way to the stairs, but Jason made sure to keep a solid grip on the end of a leash, taking every precaution that his new pet wouldn't get into any trouble on their first run together.
The elevator would be wiser, at least until Fletcher got used to his own paws.
"Hello, Jason! I didn't know you were getting a dog," they were greeted by Ms. Radner, coming down from the floor above as they entered the elevator.
"I didn't know that I was either," he claimed. "Sometimes, life just drops a big, furry ball of happiness in your lap!"
"He sure looks happy to me," she agreed, "And he's such a handsome specimen, too!"
Fletcher immediately perked his ears to the kind praise; his tail was flickering about so rapidly that it was kicking up dust from the floor of the elevator.
"Looks like he appreciates the compliment...sure doesn't have any shame about his ego," they shared a quick chuckle as they made their way down to the lobby of the apartment, though Ms. Radner had a quizzical hesitance to her laughter. "Great seeing you, Ms. Radner!"
"Have a nice day! Don't stay out in that cold too long!"
Everyone in the building knew that Jason wasn't the type to let a little cold weather keep him from jogging, and with a new running partner, he had all the more motivation to stay active. Just up the road from the apartment complex was his favorite nature trail, and for the sake of his own nerves, it was the perfect place to give Fletcher a little room to run.
"All right, dude. Try to stay on the path, but otherwise...go enjoy yourself."
Resilient pine trees stood tall on either side of the path, with the skeletons of bushes that would decorate the walkway in greenery when the spring came once more.
It was just the kind of place Jason always wanted to take Anthony for a run, but Fletcher took far less convincing. He took off ahead, leading the way like the eager canine that he was, leaving Jason just to try and keep up with his pace.
For the first time, it was Jason that was slowing him down, and he snickered at the thought as he picked up his pace, trying to keep up with the eager gait of the husky ahead of him.
This world is so fascinating, Fletcher thought, seeing everything around him with new eyes for the first time. There was a new freshness to the snow that so casually decorated the benches and bushes that lined the path, and scents that were muted by the cold were suddenly tugging him along as if they were holding his leash instead of Jason.
Everything about it felt so natural, but so exciting that Fletcher hardly noticed how heavily he was breathing, or how quickly he was rushing through it.
That joy kept his tail wagging with every step; he couldn't wait for them to go on their next jog, and Jason couldn't have been happier with his new running partner.
