#5 of All They Knew
Skye and Ruki venture through Mt. Coronet's forest, and they meet new acquaintances along the way.
This time, Skye took her time with Ruki while ambling through Pastoria city. He'd walked pretty far ahead of her to look out at the ocean to the west side of the city and at a few pokémon roaming about its grass, including a well-behaved pachirisu and starly. She wouldn't call out for him this time since she wanted Ruki to enjoy himself on their first trip to a new region.
And he was, Ruki curiously eyed the pokémon that he watched from a reasonable distance, and they seemed to be doing the same to him. He wouldn't approach them, but they were interesting to look at from where he stood.
"Maybe I'll catch you a friend while we're here in Sinnoh."
He'd been taken from his light study session by Skye once she'd caught up to him, and he began to follow her after she passed by. Ruki hadn't ever thought about Skye getting another pokémon, but he knew it would take attention away from him. He knew he shouldn't think that way, but Ruki couldn't imagine having to share his trainer. He stayed beside her through Route 12 as there wasn't much to it that Pastoria didn't have, but once they entered Hearthome city for the second time, Ruki did wander ahead a bit to look at the modern homes, and one sizeable dome-shaped structure at the very center of the city caught his attention in particular.
It took Skye an extra few moments to catch up with him again, but she stood by him once she did and pulled her backpack straps up onto her shoulders a bit. "That's the contest hall. It's well known all over. Your looks would do so well in there," she said with a grin. "This way now, we've still gotta stop at the mart." They ventured a bit deeper into Hearthome for that, and Skye saw the small blue shop shortly. She entered with Ruki and took a few water bottles off the shelves for their journey; then, she went over to the cashier at the right counter and bought a few ultra balls, and a repel just in case it was needed. Skye put all of the items inside of her backpack, and they were on their way afterward. Mt. Coronet was right around the corner.
After leaving the city and coming upon Route 208, they saw the ominous, tall, rocky mountain far ahead. Miles of vividly green trees were laid out in front of them, a vast forest free to explore. Both Skye and Ruki enjoyed that sort of thing. "It looks amazing," said Skye jubilantly. She didn't want to spend the whole day merely gazing at the view, though. "Stay by me, Ruki," she told him as she began to walk forward. Ruki getting lost in a forest was something Skye wasn't up to deal with.
He made extra effort to listen to Skye this time while they walked amongst the trees in the dimly lit forest. Enough sunlight made its way through the trees so that the environment was warm and visible enough. Ruki sniffed the air and was greeted by many natural scents, nearly too many for him to process.
"We'll just walk through the forest, it's big enough to host a full day," Skye said. It had quite a bit of nature to offer, including pokémon of course. She could see a few beautifly, bidoof, and an especially cute buneary during the walk. It was safe to say that Skye didn't need to use her repel today.
About twenty minutes into their journey through the forest, Skye sat down to rest on a dirt patch and leaned against a tree. "We're pretty far away from our route," she said as Ruki sat in front of her. "You want some water?"
He nodded, and while she took off her backpack, Ruki looked at the surrounding nature. What made it better was that little to no trainers were seen throughout their small adventure so far. It only added to its serenity.
"Ruki, here."
His eyes fell back onto Skye, and he then saw the bottle she held right in front of his mouth. He leaned his head forward and took its open-top into his mouth, tilting his head back a bit as her hand guided the bottle upward for him to drink.
After him, Skye drank a few sips from it herself and wiped her mouth while lowering the bottle. "We'll walk for a bit longer, then go back."
They stayed for nearly half an hour before they both had their fill of exploration for the day. When they did make it out of the forest and were nearing Route 213 from Pastoria, it was noon. Skye was tired all over again. "Good day, right?" She glanced down at Ruki while they strolled through Pastoria.
"Nine," he looked up at her while flicking his tails behind him. He'd enjoyed it a lot, and he couldn't wait to see where else they'd go during the week.
They were soon back on hotel grounds, heading back to the room, a sylveon standing by the suite to the far left caught Ruki's eye. He had only ever seen one in his lifetime, and he thought they were amazing.
"...Interested?" Skye stood a few feet ahead since she was heading to their door, but she saw Ruki stop to stare at the sylveon. A moment later, the door to the suite opened, and the male that Skye saw last night exited. He looked her age with short black hair and wore black jeans and a thin flashy red jacket. The first thing she thought of was how tight the shirt she wore was. That could make for an odd first impression.
"Oh, hi... I think I saw you yesterday," he said upon seeing Skye, giving her a few nervous glances.
"You did, I was really tired from the trip here though, so I just wanted to collapse," she replied. "I'm Skye, you?" She made her way over to him and extended her hand for a proper introduction.
"Aaron, and where'd you come from?" he asked while taking her hand to shake it. He kept his eyes on her face to ensure that he didn't look down at her shirt.
"Alola, just me and my ninetales." She glanced down at Ruki as he took a curious few steps closer to the sitting sylveon watching him.
"Kalos for me. I come down here once per year with Sylmi because I love Sinnoh."
While they talked, Ruki had closed in on Sylmi and eyed its sleek body. He leaned forward very slowly, asking permission to sniff that Sylmi granted him with a grin. When he was inches away from Sylmi, it raised its ribbons on each side of Ruki's neck, curiously feeling the texture of his fur. This was weird to Ruki as he'd never had anyone rub him beside Skye, but he wasn't that opposed to it.
"They seem to be getting along," Skye said while watching the gentle interaction between both pokémon.
"Hm, he's usually very timid."
He? Ruki's ears perked at the mention of Sylmi's gender, and his widened a bit, though barely noticeable. Sylmi's ribbons were still curiously feeling up his fur, and Ruki's face awkwardly heated up.
Aaron and Skye chatted for a few more moments, and he soon bid her a temporary goodbye, walking off toward the courtyard's exit with Sylmi.
Ruki was still in a state of minor shock while watching them leave. He'd assumed that Sylmi was a female. He had no idea how to feel about what just happened.
Meanwhile, Skye already had the door to their suite open and was waiting for him. "Ruki, come on. I need to get out of this shirt."
