Niv returned to the kitchen to find a note beside a tray of condiments.
"Sweetie,
When you have a moment, can you take these
out to the table and arrange them?

He had nothing better to do, so he hefted the tray up and walked it out to the back yard where several folding tables had been set up to make one larger table, draped with a tablecloth. He looked around for Mela, but assumed she was busy elsewhere when he couldn't spot her.
He shrugged and lazily went about moving each bottle and jar to the table, and had almost finished when he felt a tug on his pants.
"Aahh!?" Niv exclaimed, jumping back and checking himself. He sighed with exasperation and face palmed as Mela crawled out from beneath the table where the cloth parted. Before he could speak she lifted his shirt, then looked up at him, mildly annoyed and disappointed.
"How am I supposed to take advantage of you if you're properly dressed?" She said, tapping his belt. Her question was clearly rhetorical.
"Jesus, you scared the shit out of me." Niv complained.
"The one day you wear a belt." Mela lamented, sitting back on her feet.
"People are coming over," Niv argued, "and they expect to me to be present, of course I'm fuckin' dressed."
"You tricked me by not wearing shoes! You're no fun." Mela crossed her arms and pouted.
"You knew that already." Niv replied. "I'll be fun later, now get up and help me with this."
"And If I don't?" Mela raised an eyebrow. "If I... crawl back under the table instead? What then?"
"Ugh, we don't have time for this." Niv sighed. Mela sidled up to him, still on her knees, and put a hand on his shoulder. She tugged him down gently to whisper in his ear.
"Everything else is ready, and we have over an hour..." She paused for him to consider, tapping his belt again as she waited. Niv had already given up the game by hesitating, it was just a matter of waiting for him to accept it.
