It was a disturbance that the entire church felt almost all at once. The priests, druids, and paladins were all completing their daily routines when the very walls around them vibrated ever so slightly. Hardly perceptible to the naked eye, but it was like being on a rocking ship in the midst of a storm for someone attuned to divine magic and energy.
Some of the newer members to the church weren't aware of what the sudden disturbance meant, but if the panicked faces of the old masters was to go by, it was extremely important. A meeting was called of all the high ranking members of the divine clergy to discuss the matter. That was a day ago, and now they came in from around the land with even a few from neighboring kingdoms.
Within a grand auditorium, the stands were full of wizened faces, all of whom were skilled in their own schools of magic, study, and prophecy. At its center, ringed by the more powerful magi of the city, was a pedestal that a grand bishop made his way towards.
He was an old wolf but he moved with the speed and grace of someone half his age. He carried with him an ornate staff inlayed with gold and crossed with various religious symbols. He strode with purpose and when he finally came to the pedestal, he positioned himself behind it and stamped the bottom of his staff hard into the wooden floor. It stayed there, standing straight up even as he moved his paw and pulled away the hood that was draped over his visage.
Keen brown eyes gazed out from a face marked with scars. Part of his lip on his left side was missing, making it look like he was constantly sneering. His gaze passed the congregation twice, taking note of everyone that he saw, his vast intellect recognizing each face and putting a name and history behind each. Many knew him as the Dark Disperser, the remaining member of a squad that had taken care of the last Demon to have been released on the world. But he simply preferred to go by his true name: Ren.
At last, he swept his arms into the air above his head and spoke. "Thank you all for meeting on such short notice!" he voice boomed, magically enhanced to reach every ear. "As you have all no doubt felt the recent disturbance, I fear this marks a dark time once again that we must address. The divine barrier between dimensions has been breached, an angel or demon has been summoned to this world that must be taken care of.
"Presently, we don't know which or where, but in time we will only have to follow the destruction that will inevitably begin to fall. It is key that we act swiftly once the first reports come in. I've already dispatched all of our warkites, if the demon or angel is near they will hopefully spot it soon."
A tall male horse stood up from the bleachers of a middle row, dressed in the robe, shirt, and pants of a magus that specialized in fire magic. He held no staff or weapon, but his forearms were clasped with heavy looking iron gauntlets. "Does the king and his court know of the potential danger?" he asked quickly, his voice hitching to the spell that amplified the bishop's voice. Faces turned towards the magus and then back to the bishop as the question now filled their own minds.
"Yes, he was the first that I sent a message to regarding the current predicament, along with all the information we currently know. He has given me and by extension all of you free reign to do what we can to deal with this situation. We have his royal guard, the army, and any other connections that are at the king's disposal to solve this problem. It seems that the last incident with a rogue angel is still fresh in his mind," he continued and looked off to the side where another grand bishop stood. The two exchanged looks and the wolf nodded his head before turning back to the congregation.
"I open the floor to any and all questions as well as any details that anyone feels relevant to share," he concluded. The room barely had a second of silence before a female rabbit dressed in scholarly robes stood up and spoke.
"What does the public know of this incident?" she called out. Mumbles rolled through those in on the bleachers.
"The public knows nothing. Until there is an incident there is no need to disrupt the pace of the city and incite panic. We assume that whoever has summoned this angel or demon is dead, but if they aren't it would be best to keep our knowledge of their activity quiet so that we may find them out," the bishop explained.
The rabbit sat down and a male labrador jumped up on the opposite side of the room. "Are there already plans to assess the city? I assume stealth is of the utmost importance."
"We have posted schedules and routes that take advantage of the many guilds and factions' strengths and ability to alert the rest of us or call for help. The city will be on a constant watch because of this so it's going to be hard to maintain a stealthy presence, but we must-"
The bishop's words were cut short by an ever so slight shudder that rocked the entire auditorium. The hair on the back of the wolf's neck bristled, as did every other attendees'. He stared out at the bleachers with wide open eyes as his heart sank into his stomach. A deafening silence enveloped the room as a unanimous understanding hit: the barrier between planes had once again been broken. There was another demon or angel running amok.
Fae held a wide, appreciative grin on her face as she watched the thick, black tentacles wrap around the demon in front of her. Zakk had been much quicker this time and bound their captive before she was even able to hit the floor after being brought through. Obviously held in a near unbreakable grip, that didn't stop the divine being from struggling.
It was a rabbit this time, Fae noted to herself. Purely by chance of course, it was also a female. The only thing that the sorceress had control over was the fact that she had pulled a demon through, a process much similar to bringing forth an angel but just ever so slightly different. So slight in fact that if someone wasn't careful, they might bring forth the opposite divine being by accident. Being as taxing as the whole process was, such a ritual was not one to be left up to such minor mistakes.
The demoness fixed the mare with her glowing eyes and glared. Her fur was a shade of red just dark enough to not be considered pink. She was actually as gorgeous as the angel had been handsome, but that was always a constant feature of the divine.
Right above her eyes were a set of small, pointed, black horns, and from her back jutted two leathery wings, like that of a bat but smaller. Her body was curvy and voluptuous with wide hips and large breasts with perfect dark nipples centered at each. If Fae had been an amateur, she might have mistaken the demoness's beauty for harmlessness.
Fae snapped the book shut that she had been holding and let it drift away weightlessly into the air before approaching. She knelt down and took up a small dish of Bliss Honey and a wide mouthed vial before she crossed the threshold of the safety circle. When she did, Zakk reflexively commanded the tentacles to tighten their hold on the rabbit.
Demons were known to be far craftier than angels and much more intelligent. Unlike angels, however, demons did not lie, and their promises were always grand and far reaching. It was why they were summoned more frequently than angels, but the gifts they bestowed upon their summoners often had ironic twists, and so it was important to dig details and clarify the meaning of certain phrases. Contracts were often a thing when confronting such a being.
As if all too familiar with this kind of thing, the demoness held an annoyed mask as she watched the mare come closer and eventually kneel. "What is it that you want?" she sighed with a grimace, her voice filled with vitriol.
