With an incredible explosion of rainbow light high above the planet, the latest of Dr. Eggman's nefarious superweapons disappears, never to bother anyone again. The people of Mobius watch with bated breath, only to be hit with a wave of energy that they had felt all-too-many times before. They see it all: Freedom Fighting and Rocking Out, laid back slacking and cartoon antics, cops in small towns in Montana, two worlds, one world, many worlds above and below.

Nothing was ever the same that day... nothing could ever be the same.

That was the day that the evil Dr. Eggman finally was killed off for good. His own wave erased him forever, but the memory of his effect on the planet, and the damage that he had left behind--that could never, ever be forgotten.

The speech continues to buzz on the monitor where Princess Sally, leader of the Dual-Worlds Restoration, speaks here to those watching from all over the twin planets. In one such household, the homestead of the D'Coolettes, friends watched in rapt attention as she continues her speech. "And that is why, starting this year, on the anniversary of our collective sigh of relief, this date will be declared Peace Day. It will be the day that Mobius finally found the end of its wars.

Antoine sniffs at that statement, swirling around his fine wine. "Ze end of wars. Zat is poppycock if you ask moi. Non. There will be other wars, and for zem, we should be prepar-ed!"

"Sugah-Twan, Ah think yer lettin' the wine get to yer head a bit. Yer accent's getting much too hard for our guests to understand."

Antoine looks around at the guests, all adults at the adult party that the older of the core freedom fighters had established. He clears his throat and stands tall. "What I am meaning to say is zat we should have ze vigilance, and zat we should not be keeping our guards down, but... for now, we can be relaxing, yes?"

"Ah'll drink ta' that!" Bunnie says, lifting up a mug for herself. "To peace and the friends who helped make it possible."

"Oui, oui, and you know what else?" He steps forward, raising his glass towards a rabbit sitting at their couch, sipping some tea. "To Miss the Rabbit, who is ze pioneer among us for ze next generation! A single mother during ze dark Eggman times now gets a reward for raising a child in zat climate. Why not offer a toast to her as well?"

The cheers rise up from among the guests, and Vanilla lowers her head, scrunching up her skirt a bit. "T... thank you," she says, a humble gesture in these times.

Bunnie frowns after taking her drink but puts her best party face back on a moment later as the next round of toasts came and went, but she didn't keep her eye too far from the mother rabbit.

Sometime between toasts and charades, Vanilla walks on outside to the back garden, admiring the bouncing plants and their fruits and vines. Bunnie slips out alongside her, speaking up to break the tension. "Ain't nothin' like seein' somethin' you worked so hard on growing nice and strong, eh, Miss Rabbit?"

"Oh, B-Bunnie!" Vanilla says, giving the rabbot a quick bow. "I'm sorry. I was just admiring your skills."

"Yeah, ah had plenty o' time to garden and ta hair dress in the past year. Strange, isn't it? Ah' ain't never lived in a world without war. It's funny what you can get done when you ain't workin' all day ta' destroy stuff."

"Yes, that's true," Vanilla says. "It reminds me of my youth a bit. It's almost as if my whole adulthood never really happened."

"Ah, don't yew talk like that, Miss Rabbit. You ain't an old lady yet! Yah gonna make me feel old sho' 'nuff, if'n ya keep talkin' like that.

"Hm, yes, perhaps you're right," Vanilla says, tittering slightly at that. "You know... when I see you and your husband together, I do get a little jealous.

"Say what? Where'd this come from?"

Vanilla closes her eyes, taking a deep breath. "Bunnie--the world was a much different place before the Great War. It was a time of growth and compassion and a time of free love. It was simply wonderful."

"Free love, ya say? Shucks, don't that sound like a good time."

"Oh, I" m glad you think so," Vanilla says, turning once more to face Bunnie. "You see, because you and your husband may have toasted me for raising a daughter in these trying times, but you two... you two are heroes, and it's because of people like you that my Cream is safe." She reaches out, grasping Bunnie's hand between hers. "And I want to make it up to the two of you, personally."

Bunnie sputters, but she doesn't pull away. Her eyes are fixated upon that warm, genuine, lusty smile of the older rabbit.

"You know how I feel, Bunnie," Vanilla's voice comes back to her, husky. "You can't deny it. This past year, without having to worry about saving the world, you've heard a different call, a natural call. I'm feeling it too."

The two stares at each other in silence, their eyes closed, their mouths drifting close, their breaths warm upon their faces.

"Oh, my lovely little leporine," Antoine calls out. "Ze guests, zey are waiting to pin ze tail on ze, mon Dieu!"

Antoine stands there in the middle of his garden. He watches as, in the moonlight, his wife and his guest of honor, share a gentle, yet passionate kiss.

The two pull back, their eyes fluttering open, and they gaze over at Antoine.

"Oh, and I suppose zis is where you say 'zis isn't what it looks like?"

Bunnie rolls her eyes and then grabs him around the waist, pulling him in close. "Not at all, Sugah. This is where ah tell ya to join in!"
