Feeling Love
This is the first chapter of the Music Story series that was commissioned by Ash_Sukea. The idea behind it was to take eight songs, four from each of us, shuffle them up, and then make a series of stories based off of them. This first chapter is based off of Paula Cole's "Feelin' Love."

Arya adjusts her blond hair as she looks at her palm mirror. The job is simple: find the gullible type, weasel her way into their good graces, then milk them for all they are worth. It's not that difficult to do, once she gets it down, and Arya is a pro by now. Men, women, human, anthropomorph, it doesn't matter. All of them fall under her sway, eventually. And if her good looks and charm don't take them down, then certainly some of her more hidden tricks will be enough to get under their skin.
Today she sits at the small coffee shop, sipping herself a Tibetan Raspberry from her floral-patterned travel cup, when the targets enter. Two rats, a female dressed in casual t-shirt and jeans and carrying a large purse, gabbing away to her companion. He's a male: standing tall, dressed to the nines in a three piece suit and a hat, looking very much like an old timey gangster. Arya cracks a smile at the sight. Either this guy is a hitmouse, or he really thinks he could pull off the look. He wouldn't be too wrong, actually.
He orders for the two of them, getting himself a French roast. Very straightforward, rather predictable. That could make the target easier. According to the dossier, they were “U. B. A." And “J. B. A." That could mean they were twin siblings, cousins, married, any sort of thing. It means the two of them are probably a package deal.
There's a way that the male leaned on the counter, talking to the black cat on the other side with such confidence that made her think the latter is unlikely, unless the two are in an open relationship. It makes things less complicated getting one or the other alone, certainly, and yet… the way he takes his coffee and surveys the room holds that odd confidence that most men she meets don't have.
Their eyes meet, and her heart skips a beat. He blinks, his whiskers twitching. Were she truly capable of doing so, she'd blush a deep crimson just from the sight. He looks over to his companion and motions over towards her booth. It's show time.
Both rats slide in across from her, with the male pretty much at
eye level. He's a big rat, probably only an inch shorter than her. She grips her tea and inhales, putting on a smile. “Good morning!" she says, “I trust you are doing well?"
The female rat smiles and reaches into her purse to pull out a tablet. “I'm really glad you decided to meet with us! I have some wonderful ideas I really would love to show you and the others at your company that I think would really wow them."
“Uh… uh huh" Arya responds, her eyes flickering over towards the male, who takes a quick sip of his coffee. Wow, he likes it hot. “Well, I'll have to take a copy of some of your plans so I can send it over to my boss, and-"
“Ladies…" he says, putting his coffee down. “Straight to business? We haven't even been properly introduced." He holds his hand out to her. “Name's Jay. This is my—"
“Uma," she says. “But she doesn't need to be reintroduced to me, right? Jay, this is Arya."
“I figured that from how she was described." He smiles a little, showing off his white teeth. “Arya," he repeats as she brings her hand to his. “A pleasure to meet you,"
“I, uh, the same." She says, her hand unable to move, even without his tight grip upon it. “I… yes, do you have a copy you can give me?"
“Now, I have a question about that." Jay responds, his nose twitching slightly. “Why can't she just email them to your boss? Sounds like that would be much simpler.
Uma shakes her head. “Oh please, like I'd put them where hackers can scoop 'em up. No, these are too precious to me. There's no way I'm trusting our ISP to keep this information secure."
“That's," Arya says, looking back over toward her, though she feels every slight movement of his thumb, and it makes her want to melt right there and coil up in a puddle of her delight. “That's very true. Don't worry, though. I won't lose it, if that's what you're worried about.
I'm a professional, after all, I-"
“Tell you what," Jay says, pulling his hand free and stroking under his chin. “I know a good secure set-up myself. Multiple passwords, get a suitcase with an actual lock, the works. You meet me this Saturday, let's say here, and I can deliver it with ya to your boss."
Of course, the boss doesn't exist. The plan is to take the data and run it back to her Uncle. It's not the most glorious job, but the only one she can get with the talents she has.
She sips her tea once more, mulling over everything: how she was
going to get things from him, how she was going to be alone with him. How he would be alone with her. Without even thinking about it, she blurts out.
“It's a date!"
Uma giggles at that, but Jay just smiles and leans back. “Very well, then. A date it is. I look forward to seeing you again."
His phone rings and he shakes his head. “Ah, wouldn't you know it? We're running a little late. Come on, Uma, let's go. “See you later, babe," he says, giving her a wink.
As the two rats leave the scene, Arya slides back into her seat, just staring as she watches him leave. Her tongue slithers out unintentionally as her pupils slit, but she shakes her head and pushes herself out of her seat. “I… I need to think!" she mutters to herself.
Arya slams the door and leans up against the wall. She brushes a hand up through her blond locks and lets out a long, exasperated sigh. Work had been getting annoying these past few weeks, but the last few days were the worst. To top it all off, Uma and Jay just had to make things even more complicated. A mousy girl like Uma is easy enough to manipulate into doing what she wants. Jay, however, is a different story. When she looked into his eyes and saw just how his whiskers twitched that first time, she knew something was wrong.
She can't let any emotions get in her way, not from her job. She kicks her shoes off and blows out a long breath before slogging over past the Chinese decor to her bedroom.
Sure, she studied both of them and made sure she knew as much as she could before she would make her move, but today just… it just didn't work out at all!
She turns the lock on her room and faces to the mirror. The attractive human woman looking back at her looked how she felt: like she was hiding something. Of course, she was, but now its from herself as much as from Jay.
“Damn it…" she says, placing a hand on the mirror. “Why did this have to be so complicated?" she asks. “It's never been like this before. Come on, girl, you can handle this, just like you handled the other jobs."
She turns away from the mirror, closing her eyes and cupping her own cheeks. “But, he's so talented, and he's such a cutie, and…
“It had to stop sometime," she admits to herself, holding her hands out and looking around her room. “All this nice stuff, built off of cheating people out of their money, ensnaring them into schemes. It's all going to crumble down, and why? Because I think a rat is cute. Ha!" She spins back around, fingers pulling underneath one of her eyes. “But, what would he think about me…?" she asks “When he finds out the truth?"
“You know what? Sometimes… Sometimes, it's worth a risk. Sure, he's cute, but he's also super talented and… and the way his eyes drew me in. I'd bet that's how people see me when they look at me." Her hands move down along her body, brushing over smooth skin. “Ha, 'me,' right. Nah, it's when they look at you."
“That's that. Saturday, I'm going to show him the truth. I'm going to let him know anything he wants. I'm not ashamed of myself! And I don't have to stare at you anymore today. Maybe even never!"
She spins around and slinks over to the bed. One hand drapes one strap of her dress over her shoulder. The other does the same. The clothing falls to her ankles, and she steps out easily. Fingers hook into undergarments, hooking the bra loose and then stepping out of her panties, letting them drop with the rest. She squeezes her legs together. A soft gasp emerges from her lips. Feeling the change, She then slithers onto the bed, soft skin rubbing against the sheets. Her hands go up underneath the pillow, gripping the soft thing. She bites it, grunting as her teeth sink inside, cutting through the foam.
She rolls onto her back, locks of hair remaining on the
mattress. Writhing, her legs kick together, soon flicking off layers of skin and replacing them with a slick and shiny set of scales. The tip of her tail curls up, now free from its transformed state, the rattle flicks down off the side of the bed.
When she pulls her face free from the pillow, her hair is nearly
completely gone. Her green slitted eyes gaze around the room a moment before her clawed hand reaches up to grab her scalp. She tears it off and breathes a sigh of relief as she feels her scales freed from the she-skin prison.
She rolls off of the bed, her tail supporting the rest of her
body quite nimbly, and slithers her way over to the shower. As hot water blasts over her body, she wipes the last of the woman she appeared to be off of her body, letting that human shape disappear down the drain. Hands explore herself, making sure every inch of her is clean before she shuts the water off.
Wrapping a towel around herself, she slides out of the shower
and stops in front of the bathroom mirror. Her ophidian eyes stare back at her and once again, Arya frowns. She opens her mouth wide, hissing at herself, showing off those sharp, venomous teeth. She pokes at the tip of one, then closes her mouth promptly. “No.. This isn't right. I can't be myself, not around him. This form. It's… it's not what he knows. It's not what he cares about."
“But wait, does he care about me? There's only one way to find out."
Arya slides back out of her room and grabs her purse, pulling out her phone. There, she looks over pictures of Uma and Jay before they came to the coffee shop. They are all from when she was doing her own snooping before their initial encounter. Her stomach churns as she thinks about that. How could she be so dumb as to fall for a target?" She tosses her phone away, and falls back onto her bed. “Why can't he just be here? Why can't he just burst in and see me as I am and make the decision himself? Why do I have to be the one to tell him that… that I've fallen in love!?"
