To Live or Serve: Chapter 8
Sorry for the wait on this one. I had originally planned to just take a short break for Thanksgiving, but that went a little long and then Cyberpunk came out.
Chapter 8
The morning was a slow start. I woke up just as the sun started coming up, brightening the world in is golden hue. The warmth of another body surrounding me and the smell of Rob as well, though my well rested mind was a tad more aware of the smell of our unwashed bodies mingling together in the small space of the tent.
Slowly opening my eyes, I was greeted by the sight of both of my hands firmly grasping the white fur of Rob's chest. It was matted here and there with areas where it was still dirtied. One of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.
How had I not known that such feelings of bliss existed in the world! I may know the way of a soldier, but I entirely ignorant to the pleasures of the world.
Maybe it was the change in my breathing as I inhaled his smell, but Rob stirred a little. His breathing tempo quickened and he murmured nonsense before smacking his lips.
I laid there, just feeling his muscles move under his skin all around my body. His legs, entwined in mine, stretched out. His hold on me tightened and our groins pressed hard against each other.
I stifled the moan as a shot of pleasure ran from my crotch and through my body like a bolt of lightning.
I had touched myself before. Who hadn't, but compared to the simple feeling of something else merely grazing me, masturbation may as well had been as mundane as eating one of those MREs.
"You awake?" Rob whispered, his breath ruffling through my hair.
For a moment, I thought of pretending to be asleep like a child trying to read a few more pages of a book when their parents came in. What would he do if I was still asleep? Hold me more? It was honestly all I really wanted to do. Lay there. Soak it all in, but deep down, duty called. We didn't have the luxury to sleep the day away, to shirk off the tasks of the morning, afternoon and if we were really lazy, the evening. So, I clutched the fur of Rob's chests, pulling him to me as I inhaled.
"Yeah," I answered back just as quietly and got a squeeze and a lick across the back of my ear as a reward. The feeling sent tingling shivers down my back.
For a bit, we just laid there as the world slowly became brighter as the morning reached its peak.
"We should get going here soon," he said in a depressed tone.
I shared the feeling. Why did we both have to have these feelings here and now where we could explore it? Albeit, the answer was obvious, having only met just a bit ago just for the mission we were on. Still, why here? Why now?
"Ok," I replied in the same tone and slowly slipped from Rob's grip. His nails drawing slight scratches on my arms as if to try to hold me in place.
Once I was up, he too reluctantly followed.
"How far do we have to go?" I asked.
"We'll get to the border before dark," Rob replied as he toyed with the corner of the blanket. "But be ready, it'll be a long day and night. Probably won't get much sleep for a while."
I looked at him with an eyebrow raised.
He looked at me for a moment and then grinned.
"What?" I asked, again making a concerned face.
"You make cute faces."
I felt heat rise in my cheeks and looked away quickly. I cant recall ever being called cute. It wasn't a word used in the military, at least not as a compliment, more of a way to call a person's antics somewhat idiotic. I knew he didn't mean the word that way though.
"Look at me."
I took a deep breath to calm my self, feeling the blush die a little before turning back to face him only to be taken by surprise as he grabbed both sides of my head and pressed his lips against mine.
I had no idea what to think. There was a a flurry of thoughts, feelings and ideas racing around that might as well have been nothing at all. My body froze, not responding in any way.
Rob had both eyes closed, head slightly tilted and ears perked as his muzzle kissed my mouth.
Then through the mess off feelings, a small spark shone through. It was a slight tingle at first, buzzing from the point of contact until it felt as if there a small charge running just under my skin. It made hairs stand on end and shivers through my spine. Eventually it culminated to me closing my eyes and pressing forward as well. It was just an act without thought, playing on feelings and curiosities that I suppose had always been there just under the surface. With just the two of us, why not explore it a little?
It stayed just like that for some unknown amount of time. Just out lips. His long muzzle and my flat face just making contact at that small point and... it felt right. No more of those doubts that had plagued me that past two days. Just right.
Then he pulled back from the kiss, leaving me wanting. Like a part of me had been torn away.
He opened his eyes as I opened my eyes. I suppressed the urge to go for another. I didn't know if it would be proper of me to.
He smiled. "That was nice," he said softly.
"Yeah," I barely managed the reply.
He then got up slowly, still naked, and unzipped the tent before stepping out.
A gust of chilly wind invaded the tent and I shivered, but followed Rob out, chasing after his lazily wagging tail.
It was a perfect day. A few clouds lazily strolled across the sky and even with the breeze, I could feel the warmth of the sun's rays against my exposed skin. I could only recall a few times when I had woken up to a perfect day.
Rob raised his arms to the sky, stretching and giving a massive yawn. I watched him with admiration as the light exposed every part of his body. His patterned white, black and grey fur that covered him, his tail that lazily wagged and as I followed that tail up... a curved, but perky butt.
This time, I felt no shame in looking. Not even when Rob glanced back and saw me staring. Instead, he grinned and turned and for the first time, I saw the rest of him truly.
Nestled between his muscular thighs was an average, if very slightly large, set of balls, hanging loosely in their white furred sack. Just above that was an equally white sheath. I could not say if it was large enough, but I could tell that it would easily fill up my palm... if I were to hold it.
Soon. Eventually. I hope.
Rob took his time walking to me, keeping his arms up and behind his head, letting me see all I wanted to see. He was obviously getting his own looks as his blue eyes absorbed every inch of me.
I was in good shape, my years of service ensured that. I was probably in better shape when I was still in, but I hadn't lost much. A little fat here and there hit sharp features of my musculature, but still, nothing to be ashamed of.
Rob on the other hand, looked as if he lived the life of fitness. Even with his soft and thick fur, I could still make out each muscle on his body. I could see them flex with each movement and I wanted to touch them. So I did.
Kicking away the last vestiges of my old hesitations, I approached Rob as well until were were less than a foot apart. I rested my hands against his chest. The fur was warm from the sun and even if the grime of our journey undoubtedly made his fur coarse, it still felt luxurious under my fingers.
"I'll show you just how I like being touched," Rob spoke softly, leaning forward to whisper in my ear. "But, another time."
I sighed and curled my hands, grasping that fur that seemed just as important as oxygen at that moment. He was right of course. We did have somewhere to be.
I could still feel the ghostly remnants of his fur on my finger tips as we got dressed and packed up camp. It was all I could think of and despite the nervousness about the coming days, I was giddy with the thought of eventually spending another night with Rob. It also made me curse my anxiety from the first night. It was obvious that I could have made a move then and if I did, who knows what would have happened this past night. I didn't know. To be honest, I was very much ignorant of what a homosexual couple would do. I had ideas, but without seeing and doing it, it was still a mystery.
Once camp was put up, Rob continued to lead us towards the Pelitan border. The terrain was very much the same. Some ups, some downs and some flat parts. I found that my balance was better today, so the going was easier and I remained in relative high spirits.
It was about three hours or so after we had set off that I recalled the conversation in the tent about what was going to happen next.
"You said that we weren't going to be getting much sleep once we make it to the border," I said, raising my voice a bit since Rob seemed to glide over the ground and was always a little ahead without looking like he was leaving me behind.
His ears perked and turned back towards me even as he kept walking.
"There's going to be a lot of interrogations in the coming days," he said, turning his his slightly so his voice wouldn't be lost in front of him. "You're an unknown to them and even with my word, they'll be suspicious. It'll be boring for the most part after the first few. Lots of questions about yourself, about me, about pretty much everything. As long as you stick to the idea that you're a disgruntled Lutrian, then we should be fine. Everything else doesn't even need to be made up. Use your real name. If they ask about friends and family, don't lie. Lying is like digging a hole; the more you lie, the deeper the hole gets until its impossible to climb out."
"Ok, so I'll keep it to a shallow ditch then," I replied as I clambered around a boulder which had blocked part of the path.
At this point, we were mostly descending the mountain at a very slight incline. Undoubtably already starting to come out of the mountain range and into more flat lands that would become Pelitan. It was still a long ways away because I could still see a few peaks in the distance ahead of us. I just knew my legs were going to kill me in the coming days.
"One thing we'll not say anything about is the Emthirians. They'll just complicated things if they're existence here comes to light."
I nodded in agreement even if he couldn't see. "What will we do?" I asked.
He stopped and looked around us, his ears going flat before he looked at me. I could see worry in his face.
"A discussion for another time," he said.
I looked around as well. I had forgotten for a moment that it was likely they were near right now. Probably safest to think that way all the time.
"Another time," I echoed and we kept on our way.
We kept talking about more of what to expect once we were picked up and the more I heard, the less I looked forward to it. Like I was looking forward to waltzing into Pelitan in the first place.
It really was going to be a long next few days and even as I begun to dread it, we were suddenly there. Most of the hours of the day had gone by so fast that I nmhadnt noticed that the sun had already begun to climb back down the sky and that we had been walking on mostly flat terrain for a while now.
Rob stopped and let me catch up. The woods had thinned considerably and I could see for maybe a quarter of a mile ahead of us, which looked like more woods. However, I knew better than to make assumptions.
"Don't move from here," Rob said to me and patted me reassuringly on the shoulder.
"Yeah," I said back.
He began to walk forward towards a tree only a dozen feet away that looked just like the rest of them until he reached it. He placed a hand on the trunk and to my surprise, pulled the bark back. But it wasn't bark. It was a small panel that revealed a rotary phone that sat neatly inside of a metal box.
How strange. I watched with great interest.
He lifted the phone and held the receiver to his mouth and then spoke a single word.
"Squirrel," he said it once and without waiting, he put the phone back down and closed the panel.
"What was that about," I asked when he got back to me. "Squirrel?"
He grinned. "It's silly on purpose. A codeword to let them know we're coming so we don't accidentally get shot whenever we come across a patrol."
We began to walk again, but at a slower pace. I guess at this point, we were Pelitan now and it was just a matter of time before thr border guard found us.
"How do you remember which tree it is," I asked and glanced at the phone tree as we walked by. Even knowing that there was a panel there, it looked exactly like any other tree in this forrest.
Rob tapped his nose. "Smell. The tree is marked with a special scent. That and the fact that I've done this quite a few times."
"Wouldn't a Cainus be able to smell it out too?" I asked as continued on past the tree.
"Technically yes, but the smell is faint and not too strong. Most would think of it as just another random smell coming from the woods."
"And the silly codeword is to make it harder to guess," I surmised and got a nod in response.
"Most would think that a codeword would be serious like hyperion or something like that," Rob said.
"I guess so," I said. It was definitely like that with the Cainus. They loved to be serious and would never guess something like squirrel.
It was another hour before the Pelitans found us.
It wasn't anything crazy. The woods opened up to a field where a dirt road bisected it and in the middle were a pair of jeeps. Around those jeeps were three soldiers in dirt brown fatigues with one carrying a radio backpack.
They glanced up when Rob and I stepped into the clearing, but didn't raise their weapons. This really must have been fairly routine.
"Took your bloody time," a large Pelitan, who looked much like a rotweiller, flicked the butt of his cigarette away and approached us. His eyes glanced over to me. "Brought yourself a pet as well. Fucking wonderful. Does brass know about this?" He growled out the last words.
"Relax," Rob said, entirely unfazed and he placed a paw on my chest to tell me to stop walking. They were about twenty feet away now. "Everything has been cleared to bring him here."
"Whats his name?" The rottweiller demanded more than asked.
"James," Rob answered for me. As if I was going to say anything though. There was a definite tension in the air. Understandable, though. I had stood border patrol more than once and unexpected surprises was an easy way to ruin a day's patrol.
The rottweiller narrowed his eyes at me and then snorted. "Fine whatever." He waved a paw dismissively and walked back to the jeeps. We followed.
The other two Pelitan guards, one a short terrier of some sort and the other a tall dalmatian didn't say or do anything the entire time until the rottweiller told them to.
"Kershaw," the rottweiller, that I could now tell was a lieutenant from his collar device, barked out. "Let command know we have the package and are RTB."
The dalmatian, who was carrying the radio pack, nodded and pulled the receiver from the radio and began speaking into it. The terrier ran to the other side of the jeep he had just been leaning against and reached into it. He pulled out a rucksack and dumped its contents into the back of the jeep. Mostly cans of food. He then ran over to the lieutenant and handed it to him.
"Yeah, almost forgot," the lieutenant said and took the sack. He then tossed it to Rob. "He needs to out that on."
Rob caught the sack and turned to me. "He's right. It's protocol whenever taking in an unknown from across the border."
"I understand," I said and took the bag before placing it over my head.
"Don't worry," Rob's voice came through from the other side of the bag as he took my arm and began to lead me towards the sound of the running jeeps. "It'll all work out just fine."
