First and foremost this story is copyright by me and may not be used in part or wholly without my express consent

Secondly I am "NOT' an English major I scraped by with a d average in school and do not need criticism on my writing abilities. This is a story of MY mind. There is no reason to tell me that I flunked in the English department.

For those who have read from the beginning I am still less than half way through what I have to upload and then I have 4 pages of notes to continue the story. I am a slow typist as well as having a ton of things to keep me busy. I will add to this as I can get to it.

Otherwise enjoy the story and understand that my life was influenced by authors such as Terry Brooks, J.J.R. Tolkien, and Ray Bradbury and several of the artists in SoFurry and the old Yiffstar.

This is all I have completed at this time. I will continue as I have time to. I would like to get it done by the year end if I can so hope I find the time for it.

Chapter 19

Kantagin then inhaled deeply and said, "My words, he doesn't even know what he is doing and he has given his life vow to his mate in front of a group of the pride members and their leader. He has just vowed his life to save hers. This is one of the highest laws of our pride that no one may break the monogamy of their love. He has just given his life as proof of his love."

Navaja then looked deeply into my eyes and said, "As I accept my mate's life I also vow to never allow others to come before him. May my life be ended if I am found to ever have broken the bond he has given me with his life." With that she started crying and wrapped herself around me.

Kantagin then said, "This stranger to our world has made a vow that none but my predecessor ever avowed. The honor he has bestowed to Navaja shall be honored upon penalty of death of anyone who tries to break the vow they both have given each other."

Kantagin then moved closer to me and said, "my friend, I will explain what you have just done at a later time. Just remember that you have given a vow to your mate that means your life is worthless without her."

I looked up to meet kantagins eyes and said in the most confident voice I could muster, "I have no reason to exist if this lovely panthress is not here to share it with me. If she is gone I do not wish to remain alive. I have given in public nothing I have not said in private before. I wish Navaja as my eternal mate and no one else."

Kantagin then smiled and said, "You truly are an amazing creature, first you defy death by a monster that would have assuredly killed anyone else. Then by way of an unknown weapon you dispatched the creature to be killed by its kind. Then when everyone thinks that you would certainly give up on trying, you not only show us that you are almost ready to walk again but you also say the vow on monogamy with your mate proving your love to her in front of the pride. No one in my time has ever faced such adversity and still fight to continue as much as you have. You are something very special indeed and I can understand why Navaja chose to accept you when everyone else shunned you both."

Navaja then said, "I have chosen the most wonderful and loving person I have ever encountered. Now he pledges his life to me as proof of a commitment I already knew I had. There is no one I wish to spend my life with either and if I have to choose another or death, I will choose death."

Kantagin the inhaled deeply and looked at Navaja, "do you really wish to invoke that promise to him?"

Navaja replied without hesitation, "I wish it and nothing else. It is what he deserves and I pledge it."

Then the other cats that were in the group started murmuring among themselves. Kantagin turned to them and raised his hand. "Please be quiet a moment, I need to speak clearly to these two and I wish no one else's conversation to mix it up. Seeing as how you are restricted in your movements, I am calling our pride to assemble here tonight. You two will be asked to repeat your vows in front of the whole pride. At that time I will bestow my blessing upon you and I will then bestow my gift to you as well." He turned to Herod and Doreen and said, "even though you are not of the pride I wish your honor of joining our meeting as well."

Herod and Doreen both nodded there replies and then they both said in unison, "it will be an honor to attend."

Navaja was gripping my arm in a death grip and I shook it in order for her to realize to loosen up on it a bit. She eased up and softly said "Sorry my love."

Kantagin then said to everyone in earshot, "there will be a feast here tonight and the whole pride is to attend, if there is anyone not here their names will be counted for and if no good reason is given they will be punished. This is my command, now make it happen."

The rest of the cats called out, "As the pride leader wishes, so shall it be," and they then left to spread the word.

Kantagin then turned to us again and said, "You two will need to rest up for what is to come tonight. What I am about to do has never in our time, been done. I am sure to make a few less than pleased pride members but none has ever committed to each other as you two have. The gathering shall be at sunset. Please be ready to repeat your vows in front of the pride shortly after then."

He turned and started towards the house and said, "I must inform my mate to be ready and to prepare for tonight as well."

As Kantagin got out of earshot, Navaja turned to me and said, "You do indeed know how to stir up controversy my love." She started laughing after her statement which made Herod and Doreen look confused.

Navaja then explained, "It has been told that only one other pair ever made the life mate vow. That was Kantagin's father. Kantagin has seen the look on your face and knows that you will never break the vow you have pledged and that will make several of the other pride members angry. They simply believe diversity is the way of life. Simply stated they think they should mate whomever they wish whenever they wish. Kantagin however believes as his father did. This is why he is going to have this meeting tonight to show others that he is not alone in his beliefs."

Herod and Doreen then nodded their understanding.

"Then this is to help him set his beliefs as standard in the pride. He has an avid follower of his beliefs with us and wishes to show the others that."

Navaja nodded and then said, "What the other he wants to do, I have no idea however."

We left the office and went to our respective houses with Herod and Doreen saying, "We will be here about half an hour before sundown."

Navaja and I said "goodbye till then."

When we returned to the house, Kantagin and Ariani were waiting and Kantagin said, "We shall return just before sundown. When the roll is made to see who missed the meeting you two will be asked to repeat what you said before me. I will then show the pride that you two are in love to the death. I will then say that if anyone tries to break this bond, there life is forfeit."

He then took Ariani around the waist and said, "till sundown my friends." With that they left.

Navaja and I took another bath and I lay down on the bed again to get some rest for the night to come. Navaja lay beside me after doing a bit of housework to be ready for the pride tonight.

When I awoke from my nap it was to the sound of feet on the front porch. There was a knock at the door and Herod called, "anyone in there?"

Navaja got up and answered the door letting Herod's family in. I couldn't believe that it was about a half hour before sunset until I heard another set of feet on the porch as well.

I then heard Navaja say, "Hail Kantagin, pride leader and hail Ariani, his mate."

I scrambled to sit upright as Herod came into the room and asked, "Do you want help getting into the chair?"

"That would be a good idea my friend." I replied.

With that Herod lifted me and sat me in the chair and rolled me to the living room.

"Hail Kantagin, pride leader and hail Ariani, his mate. Welcome to our humble dwelling."

Kantagin smiled and his incisors shined with saliva as he said, "well met you two. After tonight you may find that your titles will have changed in the pride and you will no longer call me like that ever again."

Navaja and I exchanged questioning looks. Herod and Doreen were looking out the front door and said that half of the town's feline families were already here.

Kantagin turned to Navaja and I and said, "Shall we go greet the pride as they come?"

Navaja stepped behind me in the chair and gently eased me out the door behind Kantagin. There was a loud hailing for Kantagin and Ariani as they stepped into view. Navaja wheeled me over in front of my favorite rocker at the end of the porch and several of the feline families came over and shook our hands and a couple even asked what is going on?

"Just wait for Kantagin," was all we said.

Finally as the sun touched the horizon Kantagin called for the roll call scrolls to be brought in and they would get started. When the scrolls were taken by Kantagin he sat them on the chair beside me. He then turned to the pride and called, "quiet down please!!!"

When they quieted he then said, "As you know I have summoned this meeting under the emergency clause that all families be represented here. I have done this because of a development in the pride. There are a couple of you who already know what is going to happen but the rest it is going to be quite a surprise and even a shock for a few of you. Anyway with that said I will turn the floor over to these two so they may have their say and then I will give a speech after and then we may all eat or leave if you so feel. I truly hope you will enjoy the foods that are brought her for this gathering." With that he turned to Navaja and I and said, "Are you ready?"

"As ready as I will ever be Kantagin." I replied.

Navaja then wheeled me over to the area that Kantagin had just vacated.

I gently called out, "please be patient with me, this hurts like hell for me to do." I then stood up, drawing a surprised murmur from the audience which helped hide my soft gasp of pain. I then reached for Navaja's hand and brought her in front of me sideways to most of the crowd.

While standing I gave the exact same speech that I did in front of Kantagin earlier. The crowd gasped when I was finished. I then sat down sweating from the effort of speaking in front of the crowd. Navaja then took her turn and repeated her part of the vow just like she did before. Again when she finished there was a gasp of the crowd.

Navaja then sat down on the chair provided her beside me.

Kantagin then called for order, "as you just heard these two just made the life vow to each other. This is something that has only one time before ever been uttered to any of our knowledge and that was my father. We now have an outcast and a complete stranger show that the meaning of the words mean more to them than they did us. For this reason I am now with or without your blessing giving them the beta male and female status of the pride."

This brought out a loud roar from some of the creatures; some even challenged the right to allow us to be given the titles.

Kantagin then said, "I have said before that these two are protected. Now they are your second in command and the whole of the pride will answer for their grief if there be any. I did not give them anything that will change the status of anyone for they wish nothing but to live life as a normal mated pair and I expect that there will even be a few of you who could use the expertise of Navaja and her medicines. I have given this blessing as leader of the pride and no one will remove it till their death. It was with my father till they made him alpha and so shall it be with these two."

With that Kantagin turned to us and smiled and said, "Was that surprise enough for you?"

Navaja looked first to me and then to Kantagin and then to Ariani and said, "You have given us a great honor. I just hope we can live up to that honor."

Kantagin laughed out loud and all around turned to look at us when he said, "you have already earned the honor. I ask nothing of you but to love each other."

I took Navaja's hand in mine and said, "That is one thing I can guarantee you. I love this panthress with all my heart."

I then looked at Kantagin and said, "I just do not want the job of being your replacement should something, heaven forbid, happens to you."

He then said, "That also has been taken care of. You will not be asked to lead the pride but you will be asked to pledge to the one chosen if and when that time comes."

I looked to Navaja and smiled and said, "I hope Kantagin's reign is a long one. He has given us many blessings."

Navaja smiled back and said, "Indeed he has my love."

The rest of the night was spent in celebration of our status change. There were many foods and a great amount of ale drank. Finally about dawn the party was ending.

Herod, Doreen and the children came to say goodnight to us both and headed to their house. Then at last Kantagin and Ariani came and said their goodbyes saying that the mess will be cleaned while we rested today.

Finally Navaja and I got into the bed at sunrise and fell asleep in each other's arms.

It was late afternoon when we awoke. I looked into my lovely kitties eyes and said, "I love you my pretty panthress."

She hugged me to her and said, "And I, you my love."

She then sat up and said, "I need to use the facilities and then get cleaned up. Would you like to clean me today?"

I smiled at her and giggled softly and then said, "I would be willing to clean you in the tradition of kitties of my world. I would tongue clean you if I had to, but yes I would love to share the bathroom with you my sweets."

With that she walked to the bathroom and I eased myself to my hands and knees and went to the door and closed it. I then followed her to the bathroom. My feet were hurting quite a bit after yesterday so I was careful not to hit them too much. Navaja saw me enter the room as she was getting the tub ready. Before she could turn away from me I placed my face to her tail sniffing her womanhood deeply. The smell her womanhood gave off made me hard instantly.

She didn't move as I gently opened her lower lips with my tongue and licked. She moaned as my tongue found the clitty and gently rubbed it. She moaned with pleasure as I brought her to a couple of orgasms with my tongue.

She then tried to get up and said, "Someone could come in and see us my love."

"I don't care if we were in the town park and the whole town watching me mate with you my lovely kitty."

With that I placed myself behind her and mounted her womanhood doggie style. She started purring the instant I hit bottom within her. As I started stroking within her lovely body she started meowing. As I got closer to making my peak she was growling and as she had he next orgasm she roared. When I reached my peak, she stiffened from another tremendous orgasm and I wrapped myself around her as I shot my seed within her. She went limp again after freezing up. She had passed out over the bathtub.

After I went limp within her love tunnel and slipped out, I eased her to the side of the tub and changed positions so I was sitting. I then gently lifted her onto my lap and held her in my arms until she started to awaken. As she came to she smiled at me and gave me a long kiss.

"You truly know how to make me feel fulfilled." She said softly.

"You are the reason I can do that my pretty panthress. I so desire to keep you pleased that I just try to make you feel wonderful."

She hugged me and said, "Well you do a great job of it. I have never heard anyone else say that they mate till they pass out."

"I never would have believed that I could make you orgasm like that either but you do seem to enjoy our matings."

She shifted herself on me to get a little more comfortable and I felt a warm wet feeling as she shifted her vagina across my leg. "I'm so sorry for leaking on you." She said as she tried to move away.

I pulled her back to me and said, "What are you talking about my love? Those juices coming from you are the proof of our mating love and I am not ashamed to have them on me. I would willingly wear them in public if you wished me to so everyone could smell the scent of our mating."

She looked shocked at me and said, "Don't you dare ever do that. That is a scent no one but you and I need to share."

"Very well my love, I was just saying I wouldn't care and I don't care about you draining on me now." I gently reached between her legs and rubbed my fingers against her womanhood feeling the slimy sex juices oozing out of her body and after getting my fingers wet with our love; I brought them to my mouth and licked them.

She watched as I raised my hand to my mouth and started licking our juices off of my fingers and said, "You have some strange ways about you."

"Whatever do you mean my love? Your own species lick themselves after mating to clean themselves off. I'm just doing it for you."

She leaned to me and said, "But we cats stopped doing that when we became half human."

"Well we full humans enjoy each other's sex organs enough that most of us will lick on the others sexual areas to cause pleasure for them."

She looked at me and said, "what you do for me is wonderful my love and I will start returning the pleasure if you want."

"Start??? Your lovely body pleases me every time we mate my love. You don't have to start anything to please me."

As we slowly came down from our mating bliss she gradually turned to turn on the tubs water and smiled as she said, "we both need cleaned now my love."

"I guess we do indeed my love."

With that she got off of my lap and helped me to get to the tub side where she removed the bandages from my feet.

They had stuck a bit because of my standing on them yesterday and it hurt quite a bit as she removed them. Finally they were off and I turned around on the tub side and let the water rinse the remaining salve and grime from the soles of my feet before plugging the tub for a bath.

When the water was about a fourth the way up I slid into the tub and reached my hand to help her into the tub. She sat between my legs and lay back against me as I gently washed her front. She then leaned forward and I washed her back then.

She however didn't want me touching her crotch this time saying, "I'm a little sore down there and I don't want it rubbed." She turned and kissed me and said, "I hope you don't mind my love."

"I will never mind you being honest with me my pretty kitty."

When I finished washing her she took her turn washing me and made sure I was clean between my legs before she had me get to where we could dry each other off. When I came to her privates I gently placed my towel covered hand there and gently patted her dry. She smiled at me for not doing anything to her and then took her turn drying me off. She then put salve on my feet and recovered them and then she got both of us a new suit to put on. I then waited while she brought the chair into the bathroom. I then got into the seat of the chair and Navaja wheeled me into the kitchen.

Just as she was starting to make her and I some food the front door opened and Ariani arrived. Right behind her was her mate and just as we were about to give the traditional greeting he held up his hand.

"You are no longer obligated to greet me as your leader. I now should be considered your friend and the greeting of hello will be sufficient." He said.

He then looked around to see that the two of us were just barely awake. He said, "You two had a good night I take it?"

"Kantagin, you both surprised and shocked the crap out of us both. I am personally gladdened that you accepted my mate and I but I never expected you to give us beta status."

He then gave a small snorting chuckle and said, "I did just that to honor my father's beliefs, which are mine as well.

You two symbolize the blessing of life mates and I want to use you two as a springboard to end the mindless mating of our species. There are cubs being born unwanted because of the rampant matings of some of the males. The cubs have actually been killed a couple of times and if I could prove who did the killing I would make their life end as well. No one should take the life of a child."

He looked at me and saw the shock in my eyes when he said there had been killings. He then continued with, "it is for this reason I wish you to be my beta's. maybe if the ones doing this see the true love you two have for each other it will trigger a change in the prides opinion of life mates."

Kantagin then turned to me and said, "Sadly I have also put you in danger. This is why I am here; I am going to place a guard around your house and office. The ones that I know will be there to guard you two while the pride resorts itself and the members who wish to leave, may. They however may think that eliminating you two will make it easier to get rid of me as well.

I looked to Navaja and saw the shock on her face as well and I said, "I wish I could return for a time to my world now to get the machines of death I so much hated over there to protect my mate and I."

Kantagin cocked his head and asked, "What machines do you describe?"

"They are machines created to shoot a slug of metal into the body of anyone you aim it at. It is very deadly when aimed right and on my world almost everyone has one."

Kantagin then said, "Then why do you hate them?"

"It's because everyone there has the ability to kill another without remorse of their actions. To me life is a sacred gift.

To take that gift from another should be met with the same to you. In other words, where I am from I wish it was an eye for an eye. That means if you take something of someone else's without good reason then you should lose that same item."

Kantagin looked at me and smiled and said, "I know of this and the law of our pride is as you say."

"That still don't stop the ones you speak of from trying to get past your guards to Navaja or myself, and with me a cripple at the moment I am almost useless to stop them."

Ariani then said, "Kantagin can he use the trick that the maker used?"

Kantagin, Navaja and I turned to Ariani and looked questioning.

Ariani then said, "It was said that the creator returned to his world for a short time after arriving and the bracelet had disappeared. He used the paradox of the two worlds to open the door. I am not sure what that means but I believe that it is like the scars on your feet. You are from the other world but the damage is from here and where they contact there is a paradox."

I looked at them all and thought it over. "If there is a way across, even for a short time I would be willing to try it just to get the items I need to make me safer here."

Kantagin then said, "I too remember the story, my mate however forgot that it cost the creator quite a bit of pain to go through the portal using the paradox. Do you think you could handle the pain again?"

"Did the paradox disappear when the creator returned?"

Kantagin replied, "according to the story, he was fully rehealed except for the weakened state of the transference from the other world."

I turned to Navaja and she saw as my smile grew fully. "If I can return using this paradox and return here healed, it will be worth any pain I have to suffer to make the trip."

Kantagin then said, "I will be honored to accompany you to your world if you would have me."

"Please do not think of this as a snub Kantagin, but I feel you would better serve the pride if you did not up and disappear leaving only our mates alone to fend off anything that comes along. Also before you say anything my love, no you cannot go because you have a paradox within you as well, our child. I will not allow you to risk its life on the trip."

Navaja was about to argue, then she thought about what I had said and nodded her acceptance to what I said.

"There is only one I wish to accompany me and he already has seen part of my world and I know I can trust him as well as I do you Kantagin."

He nodded and said to the others before I could, "you mean Herod."

"Indeed I do, he was there when I came across the second time with the bracelet and saw what my world looked like. If he is willing to go I will take him with me to get the supplies I desire and he can help me with the crossings to and from as well."

With that Kantagin said to Ariani, "Go bring Herod's family here. Tell them that it is a request of both he and I," pointing at me.

Ariani left and a short time later Doreen, Herod and the children came in with Ariani.

Herod asked, "What is going on that you request us Kantagin?"

Kantagin then turned and said, "Not me, he asks for this meeting."

Herod turned to me and I explained what Kantagin had told me and what Ariani said of the creator. Herod listened and nodded his knowledge of the passing that Ariani talked about.

When I finished Herod said, "What you say is true, he did return to his world and then come back here. For his troubles he was healed physically but weakened so greatly that he almost dies of infection three days later."

I took a mental note about the infections and then said, "Herod my friend I wish to make the trip and I ask that you go with me."

Doreen shot Herod a worried glance and he was about to say something when I stopped them all.

"Herod, you've seen what it looks in my world. You also know about the time that stops when the transfer is made.

You also know that I am not going to take you where you will become a toy for them in my world. I will bring you back and I know you trust me. I wish to do this to become whole again and bring a couple more items across."

I took him off to one side of the room and I then explained to him what it was that I wanted to grab from my world and what I wanted to keep as a last resort only tool. I then explained that I would go to a pharmacy to get some infection fighting medicine to keep me from getting sick as the creator. He listened and nodded. When I finished he turned to his family.

He said boldly "I will go with him. I see the need to be there to help him and then when we return there will be some items that must be kept away from all eyes but his and mine. The thought alone that he will be healed is worth the risks I think."

With that we made a plan to go in a few minutes to try the idea and carry out what Herod and I had planned to do.

Shortly thereafter the bunch of us headed out on the wagon that Herod had Aramis bring to the house. When there Herod then smiled and kissed his family.

Herod said to them all, "he will bring us both back and we will be fine afterwards."

With that he held onto my hand as I lay on the ground and placed my feet towards the place where the teleport brought me through. I instantly felt the energy resisting me as my feet reached the crossing. I kept pressing harder and harder causing more pain than I had felt in a long while, course through me. Just as I was about to let up and let go of Herod, I felt the return of the bracelet to my wrist. With that I nodded to Herod and pushed again and slowly my legs passed through. Herod then walked through, taking me with him. When we were through the passage I was surprised to see the room I had been in with all the remnants of my last passing were still there.

I looked to Herod and said, "The time is the same as when I left here."

He nodded and said, "That is what the creator said as well."

I tentatively stood up and noticed that my feet didn't hurt anymore. I looked down and saw that I was healed. "Thank god for that my friend," I said standing up.

We then left the room and headed to the truck. The first stop was a gun shop and I showed him what I wanted to take with us. I took two twelve gauge shotguns, two high powered riffles, a couple of forty-four magnum pistols and a couple of nine millimeter pistols as well. I then showed him the ammo that I wanted to take. When we finished loading up the shopping cart we took it to the truck and put it all on it.

I noticed that the lights on the bracelet were different this time and they were turning green to yellow this time at the rate of about one every hour.

I mentioned this to Herod and he said, "I believe that is a timer that will reset us here permanently here if we do not go back before it turns all yellow."

"Sounds right to me as well. Let's be back before then."

We then went to a pharmacy and I found a couple of broad spectrum antibiotics and a dosing schedule for them.

We then headed to another fabric store and took all of the spandex they had to cover all we take across this time.

We then headed to a copper wire plant nearby and saw the big rolls of copper. We saw three hand lift trucks and put a roll on each truck and headed back to the portal. By this time the third light was yellowing and Herod and I first rolled the wire down the stairs allowing them to crash wherever they wanted. Then we took the guns and ammo down. We then took the spandex and the medicines down with us.

We wrapped the wire spools around the lift legs so we could shove them through the portal and the covered area would make it. We then wrapped the guns and ammo in several boxes that allowed us to get them through easily.

Looking at the bracelet I noticed that seven of them were now yellowed. "Were running out of time my friend," I said pointing to the bracelet.

He nodded and we wrapped the bottles up and started pushing the items through, he handing them to me and I send them to the other side. When we got the small ones through I said, "Time for you to go my friend."

He nodded and I grasped his arm and passed him through the portal. I let go of him when I saw he was fully through and I pushed the first hand lift truck through. Shortly I pushed the second through and then the third with me as well.

When I stepped through there was a severe pain in my wrist as the bracelet suddenly flashed and disintegrated. I looked at my wrist afterwards and saw it was burned but it was nothing I wouldn't survive.

The first thing I registered was Navaja screaming and grabbing me to make sure I was alive.

I grabbed her and pulled her close using my non injured arm and said, "My love, I am fine, just a little burn where the bracelet was is all."

She hugged me and said that what I didn't see was that when I passed completely through the other space was suddenly shown as if it was in a million pieces before it disappeared with the bracelet.

I looked to Herod, smiled and said, "I think that was my last trip to my world, the doorway is gone."

Herod nodded and said, "I believe you are right. I am glad you came across before the bracelet changed fully."

Taking up the first of the antibiotics I opened them and gave a handful of them to Herod in the spandex. I then opened the other bottle and did the same thing.

I then said, "Take one of each of these for the next fourteen sunrises my friend. That should stop any infection you may have caught."

Herod nodded and took the pouches of pills. I then handed him the weapons to place in the front of the wagon bed.

Then we put the ammo, and finally with all of us we placed the three spools on the wagon. We headed back to my place with Navaja and I walking beside the wagon arm in arm.

While we walked, Navaja softly said, "I'm glad you are healed my love."

I turned my face to her, smiled and then said, "So am I my pretty kitty, now I can take care of you."

When we got back to the house we unloaded the weapons and the roll of wire for me and then I asked Kantagin, "where would you like Herod to deliver your wire to?"

He looked at me strangely and said, "What do you mean?"

"One of these spools is yours Kantagin, one is Herod's, and one is mine."

He looked at the wire and then at me and asked, "Is that copper?"

"Yes it is and that one is all yours. Herod and I have some already but you can never have too much."

He then spoke to Herod, "can you bring that to my place?"

Herod replied, "I would be happy to, just show me where?"

With that they left together leaving Navaja and I alone for the first time in months. She smiled at me and walked with me into the house.

"What do you wish to do now my love," Navaja asked.

"I'm going to lie down before I pass out from exhaustion. I put on a good front for the rest of them but going through has drained me severely and I need to rest."
