James and Sasha wheat into their first scouting mission together, and James got his first taste of combat. James also discovered something about Sasha he does not approve of.

“James! Wake up!” Sasha exclaimed, nudging James with her snout.

“Okay, I’m up”... James responded as he stumbled clumsily. He took slow steps as he was half awake.

James slipped due to the saliva on his feet making him slippery. As he was on the ground wincing in pain, Sasha grabbed his clothes and tossed them on his head.

“I guess me being in heat really got to your head. You where so sleepy from being in my throat, you still slept even when I spat you out”, Sasha chuckled.

“Can you blame me?” James asked.

“Oh of course not. I’m surprised my temperature didn’t cook you”, Sasha said giving a toothy grin.

“Probably cooked a few brain cells. However, who needs those?” James said jokingly as he finished dressing himself.

“A scout needs all the brain cells they can get. You’re such a dork”, Sasha chuckled, then grabbed his bag and tossed it at him.

“Why are we up so early? The sun isn’t even up”, James said as he looked out of the cave. “The sooner we leave, the sooner we finish the mission. Grab your guns James, where going to war”, Sasha said with a stern and emotionless tone.

James noticed her tone... James walked to the corner where his gear is. He strapped on a leather vest with leather pouches. He began placing the magazines in pouches.

“I know you’re stressed, taking a newbie who just learned nothing but how to use a rifle”, James said.

“Last time I scouted was one thousand five hundred years ago for the surface world time. In time of this world, it was only one hundred and twenty years ago. My last partner lost his life in that mission. He wasn’t paying attention and that was a fatal mistake. I need you to stay focused. It’s true that scouts face minimal combat, but when things happen... It’s usually bad, so do as I tell you to do. Keep your head in the game. The amount of trust you have for me will be tested”, Sasha said.

“Ummm... I basically trust you with my life every moment I’m arround you. Not to mention with you eating me and taking me into your throat every night, after all, you don’t have to put me just in your throat”, James said.

“That is not what I was trying to say. Can you also trust me to take care of both you and me?” Sasha asked.

“Most of the time, yes. Two and a half days ago however, you found out teeth and claws don’t do much good in a gunfight, even if you use magic, the bullet strikes before you could cast a spell. The way I see it, if I fall, you’d have enough experience to have a chance to make it out. If you fall however, I won’t make it if shit hits the fan. Thats a fact you cannot deny”, James said as he loaded his rifle and slung it over his shoulder.

“Damn... Bested by a human again”, Sasha said.

“I’m the one with the gun... So if I ask to take point, you let me do it”, James said as he leaped onto Sasha’s back.

“Militarily, I’m your superior still... You’ll do as I say”, Sasha stated.

“What if I disobey and save you?” James asked.

“I’ll thank you for doing so, but I’ll have Gillian arrest you for insubordination ”, Sasha said. “I’m not afraid of a time out”, James replied.

“And you can’t sleep with me next time I’m in heat”, Sasha stated.

Better to sacrifice one time for more times to come than one of us get killed”, James said. “Human, I swear”

“Swear what? I know both of us are in for things neither of us ever seen ”, James said while interrupting Sasha.

“Ok... Guess it’s just best for us to trust each other’s intuition”, Sasha said as she took flight. “Good dragon”, James said with a grin on his face.

Sasha let a loud hiss and bore her teeth at James.

“Good dragon huh?” Sasha said as she spun in a quark screw.

“Awww fuck! Okay! Ok! I’m sorry!” James screamed as he clang onto her neck. “I’m not a pet”, Sasha stated.

“I’m sorry, I was... Never mind... I’m sorry”, James said.

“Good human”, Sasha said as she looked back at James and gave a toothy grin. “Damn it, bested by a dragon”, James stated.

“No shame to loosing to your predator”, Sasha said with a flirty tone.

After what felt like an hour of flying, Sasha landed and the sun was up higher in the sky. It was about mid-day.

“Welcome to Deadwood, James. There are many drows that live in these woods, including other creatures. Stay close, Sasha said”.

James followed Sasha through the woods, scanning the area with his rifle. James found many kinds of sidhe in the woods, sprites, knomes, and some animals. However he couldn’t see any drows even with the seeing stone between his front and rear sight.

“Are there any drows?” Sasha asked.

“Looks clear”, James answered.

“Ok, you take point. I’ll watch your flanks”, Sasha stated as they silently made their way through the woods.

Early afternoon, Sasha and James continued to make their way through the woods. Sasha saw James quickly went behind a tree, James signaled Sasha to hide.

Sasha folded her wings in front of her body and she appeared to become a bolder. James saw a group of seven drows. Tall, black skinned human-like creatures with pointy elf-like ears. James noticed the group of drows stopped and another group of men met with them. They began exchanging words in Gaelic, the language that is very foreign to James.

To James’s surprise, the group of other men all where short, heavily muscled, and had long beards. They were dwarves.

“Sense when do dwarves even meet with drows?” James asked himself.

“This is bad, James”, a voice in James’s head said to him.

“Sasha?” James asked in his thoughts.

“Yes I can speak to you telepathically. It’s an ability obtained between a dragon and mate. They should be delivering the drows guns in a few moments from what I heard in their conversation.. Stay hidden please”, Sasha stated in James’s thoughts as she remained blended.

“I see a crate”, James said to Sasha in his head.

“Great, how many individuals are there?” Sasha asked.

“Fifteen, seven drows and eight dwarves”, James replied.

“Are they armed? Sasha asked.

“Yes, there are too many for the two of us to take”, James replied.

“When they part ways, we’ll soon follow the dwarves. They could be traitors to their people for dealing with drows.

Then they’re separated from the drows, we’ll kill the drows, break the guns, then go after the dwarves”, Sasha said, explaining her plan in James’s head.

After several minutes the drows and dwarves began parting ways.

“They’re separating”, James said.

“Hold on, we must wait so the dwarves don’t know we attacked them”, Sasha stated.

One drow began to walk towards James.

James stayed still but his heart began to race.

“Sasha, a drow is approaching me”, James stated in thought.

“Stay hidden, James. If you expose us, you’ll be in the doghouse”, Sasha replied telepathically. “Getting behind this tree was a bad move from the get go”, James said as he clung to his rifle.

He heard more Gaelic speech come from one in the group of drows, The drow that almost discovered James’s presence walked back to the group.

James took a slow, deep breath in relief.

“Almost got doghoused”, James thought.

As the drows began to make their way west, and the dwarves where far enough east where an attack on the drows would go unnoticed. Sasha came out of her blending spell and motioned for James to walk with her.

Many minutes later, James and Sasha watched the drows as they continued to make their way to their village.

They found an opportune moment to ambush them.

“When I tell you, gun them down”, Sasha stated. James lifted his rifle and placed the drow leading the group in his sights.

Sasha stealthily made her way to the other side flank of the group as James remained hidden behind a tree on the other side.

“James, fire on them”, Sasha stated. James shot a burst into the first drow, then quickly changed targets to the drow behind the first one. He quickly changed targets to the third drow and pulled the trigger, dropping the third drow.

The other four raised their rifles and pointed them in James’s direction. James quickly moved behind the tree for cover and the drows opened fire.

The four drows began waking and shooting at James’s tree. Their gunfire kept James suppressed and unable to fire back as they got closer to them.

One drow motioned the other three to spread out.

Sasha leaped into action before they could spread out.

She pinned down two drows with her claws, less than a second latter, she struck the third drow with her tail, crushing the drow with a powerful blow.

The final drow raised his rifle towards Sasha and he took aim. A gunshot rang out and the last drow that almost shot Sasha fell to the ground.

“Close one”, James Said. Sasha let out an audible hiss in annoyance and snapped the necks of the other drows she had pinned in her claws.

“I had him”, she stated.

“Human saved you again”, James stated.

“I was going to torch him. That one counts as mine. You killed three but I got four for the one you stole from me”, Sasha stated.

“Gun beats flame, that one is mine”, James said as he grinned.

Sasha hissed at James in annoyance. “Bested by a human again? That can’t happen with the dwarves”, Sasha thought to herself.

James got on Sasha’s back and she took flight after the dwarves that traded guns with the drows.

The dwarves set camp about twenty miles away.

They where drinking ale and having casual conversation with eachother as they camped at the base of a mountain.

“Is it the same plan with the drows? Fire on these dwarves to get their attention drawn on me, then you attack from behind?” James asked telepathically.

“Yes James. On my order, fire on them. Get their attention”, Sasha replied. James raised his rifle as he stayed behind a boulder. He actually had what appeared to be the leader in his sights.

“James, I’m in position, fire on them when you’re ready”, Sasha said.

James pulled the trigger and the first dwarf dropped.

James jumped out of cover and fired on the drows again, killing another dwarf and wounding another. James hastily went back behind his cover and the drows began suppressing fire on James.

Sasha jumped out from her cover and attacked the drows from behind.

Sasha bit one dwarf on the shoulder and thre him at another dwarf. With one swing of her tail she crushed the two dwarves in one swing. She opened her mouth and set all the others on fire with her breath. Moments later, the dwarves on fire fall lifeless after running around, screaming.

James came out from cover, walking to the dwarf he wounded, hoping the dwarf was still alive. James saw the dwarf barely breathing.

“Sasha, this one is still alive. Will you translate for me?” James asked.

“Of course”, Sasha replied.

“Why would dwarves sell drows guns”? James asked. Sasha translated to the dwarf, then the dwarf laughed. He spoke in Gaelic,

“He said for you to fuck a swine”, Sasha said.

James pulled out his revolver and pistol whipped the dwarf in the groin. The dwarf screamed from that.

“Sasha, maybe you should take this one”, James said.

Sasha and the dwarf spoke back and fourth between eachother. Eventually, the dwarf got sick of being interrogated, and spat in Sasha’s face. Her green eyes turned white, so white that her pupils seemed to disappear. She said something to the dwarf in Gaelic and black shadow like flame danced over her scaly body. The dwarf screamed in horror and she placed her front foot over the dwarf’s chest. Even James stared in complete horror seeing what his mate is doing. She pulled the dwarf’s soul straight out of his body. She then spoke in Gaelic again, the dwarf gave in and began speaking to Sasha. Sasha put the dwarf’s soul back in his body.

“I spare your soul from destruction, but I cannot spare your life, dwarf”, Sasha said in English. She then bit him in the head and twisted it hard, causing the dwarf’s neck to break.

“Sasha! What the fuck was that?” James exclaimed.

“I got him to truthfully tell us why he deals with drows”, Sasha replied.

“Jesus fucking Christ, remind me not to piss you off, James stated.

“No, I’d never do that to you. Still, I do encourage you to not piss me off. I might smack you on the back of your head or something. But I’d never harm you”, Sasha said.

“You literally pulled his ghost out of his body”. That’s the scariest shit I’ve ever seen!” James exclaimed.

“I understand you are quite unnerved from seeing that, James. However, I must ask you to keep your emotions together. Also, no one can know of this ability of mine. Never speak of it. I will explain all of this to you in due time. Just... Please, don’t discuss this with anybody”, Sasha said.

James let out an audible sigh with a seemingly saddened look on his face. “Fair enough”, he replied.

“Come on James, get on my back”, Sasha replied.

James got in her back, Sasha took flight back to the clan to tell the other leaders the information she obtained from the draft she terrorized.

As the two continued to fly home, Sasha noticed how silent James was, she assumed he was still deep in thought about the incident. James realized Sasha isn’t as innocent as he thought she was. Knowing more about her capabilities made her seem to be more of an evil monster with unholy abilities than a dragon who has benevolent intent. Would she truly rid the dwarf’s right to an afterlife, or the universal right for reincarnation? After thinking to himself for a while, James concluded... “No one has the right to do such a thing to anyone. Power this dark corrupts the weirder.

Sasha being a clan leader should know better. Could this be a reason why she asked me not to tell anyone”? James thought to himself
