It was a cold winter morning when Daniel was awoken from his deep sleep groaning, at the fact that he had to go to school. Looking towards his clock he saw the time, 6:00 A.M.
"Jesus why does school have to start so early," he thought as he stood up and cracked his neck.
Daniel liked to sleep naked it was comfortable; he only slept in clothes when he had company over and sometimes he still didn't. He walked out of his bedroom into the hallway of his semi-dark apartment and strolled to the bathroom stopping to look at himself in the mirror.
"I really need to start going to the gym more," he chuckled to himself. Daniel was a black husky-wolf with white markings on his eyes and paws, and the birthmark of a star on his rump.
He started the shower and while it heated up started a pot of coffee and put some Toaster Strudels in the toaster.
"Got to love an easy breakfast," he thought. He ran to the bathroom and started to rinse off to wake up under the warm water. He washed up hopped out and dried off as quickly as he could so that he wouldn't be behind schedule. Walking back into the kitchen his breakfast was ready, he poured his coffee, got his food and watched the news before getting dressed.
Daniel didn't see himself as emo or gothic but he dressed in a lot of black and dark colors occasionally dying streaks into his hair of various colors. He liked to wear black jeans that fit just right, not to tight and not to loose, they hugged his rump and always had a big enough hole for his tail, and usually a dark t-shirt that matched. He looked at the clock again 6:50.
"Sweet I've got ten minutes to meet everybody at Nicole and Kristen's". As Daniel walked down the sidewalk heading to Nicole's he watched the cars go by while he listened to his favorite songs on his iPod. He saw his friend Nathan, a blue fox up ahead and ran up to meet him.
"NATHAN," he yelled at the top of his lungs.
"What what what," Nathan asked jokingly.
"HI," Daniel said laughing.
"Do you always have to get me worked up" Nathan asked with a smile. Daniel couldn't think of anything so he just replied with a smile. Daniel through his arm over Nathan's shoulder and they both strolled the remaining blocks towards Nicole and Kristen's. The rest of the gang was waiting there for them, Nicole and Kristen the identical twin silver foxes, Theresa the white wolf, and Kyle the red husky.
"Hey guys!" Daniel said cheerfully.
"Hey," they all said in unison.
"Alright I don't feel like being late for school again today guys, Kyle said with a serious look.
"Don't worry nerd we'll get there on time," Kristen said jokingly as she kissed her boyfriend on the cheek.
Daniel looked at the couple with a thought to himself It's been a while since I've had a girlfriend. Daniel never really had much luck with girlfriends but the last one he had was the longest relationship he had ever had, it was three long years before she left him for a "better man".
"Daniel you've been staring into space for a while is something wrong sweetheart," Nicole asked with a worried face. Nicole had always liked Daniel but never had the courage to talk to him about her feelings.
"It's nothing really just thinking that's all," Daniel tried to fake a smile trying not to worry his friends.
"Alright, you've been acting weird lately and I'm scared for you I don't like to see you unhappy," Nicole said with a serious look.
"Thank you, really I'm glad I have friends like you," Daniel said with a smile that stretched over his whole face.
"Get a room you two," Nathan said with a smirk. Daniel realized that when Nathan said this Nicole was holding his hand Daniel didn't want to make a scene so he let it go for now. The whole time walking to school Nicole never let go of Daniel's hand, the whole time at school was uneventful, all the same to Daniel anyway.
"Thank god for weekends," Daniel yelled as he walked out of the school.
"Daniel, can we talk," Kristen said touching Daniel's arm.
"Sure what's up?"
"It's Nicole, I've seen the way she looks at you and the way you look at her, and I know you both feel for each other, why don't you ask her out?"
"I don't know, I guess I'll do it when I get home."
"You guess, you mean you are," Kristen said with a laugh.
"Whatever," Daniel said sticking his tongue out. Daniel walked home alone so he could think of what to say.
"Nicole, I've liked you for a long time and I want us to be more than friends," Daniel said into the phone.
"I've wanted this for a long time, you have no idea," Nicole said almost tearing up.
"Come over later I want to talk," Daniel said almost giggling.
"I'd like that," Nicole whispered.
