Transformation at Hogwarts: Part 5
#5 of Harry Potter
I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER. ALL CHARACTERS ARE THE PROPERTY OF THEIR OWNERS. THIS CHAPTER IS MUCH SHORTER BECAUSE I HAD TO GET MY WAY OUT OF THEIR SECOND YEAR. I PROMISE THE NEXT ONE WILL BE LONGER, AND POSSIBLY YIFFY!
Harry sprinted past bewildered students, pushing people out of the way. He was desperately trying to find a professor. He turned the corner and nearly bowled over Professor McGonagall.
"Mr. Potter! I had no idea Hogwarts had a running track."
"I'm sorry, Professor! But someone needs to get up to the hospital wing! Something happened to Ginny!" McGonagall gave him one of her famous, searching stares.
"Potter, let's go." She started moving swiftly in the direction of the hospital wing. Harry quickly caught up and followed her through the castle. They made their way to the hospital wing, where they found Ginny unconscious on her hospital bed. McGonagall just gasped at the sight before her. "Was she like this when you found her?"
Harry didn't want to lie, but he also didn't want to tell her the whole truth. "No. We were talking. She was still feeling shocked at what happened to her, and I thought I could help. After we were done talking, she stood up and walked to the center of the room. Then she screamed." Harry could remember Ginny's scream perfectly. Just thinking about it brought chills down his spine. "And then she began to transform."
"And you didn't try to help her?"
"I didn't know what to do! When she was done, I helped her back to the bed and ran for help." McGonagall looked at him sharply.
"Go get Professor Dumbledore. He should be in his office. Do you remember the password?"
"Yes, Professor." Harry quickly left the hospital wing and made his way to Dumbledore's office. When he arrived at the stone gargoyle, he gave the password and stepped onto the moving staircase. After what seemed like an eternity to Harry, he finally reached the top and knocked loudly on the office door.
"Come in," said a quiet voice. Harry opened the door. Dumbledore was sitting behind his desk, petting his pet phoenix, Fawkes. "Ah, Harry. What brings you to my office this time?"
"Professor McGonagall sent me. Something happened to Ginny Weasley in the hospital wing." Dumbledore quickly stood up and exited the office. Harry was so taken aback by Dumbledore's swift exit, it took him a while to figure out he had left. After the realization hit him, he scrambled to catch up to Dumbledore, finding him at the bottom of the staircase.
By the time Harry had made it to the stone gargoyle, Dumbledore was nowhere in sight. Harry started making his way back to the hospital wing, pushing past the throng of people heading to dinner. When he arrived, Dumbledore was already urgently whispering to McGonagall. He spotted Harry and quickly turned to him.
"Harry! Tell me exactly what happened." Harry repeated what he told McGonagall, and inwardly cringed at the X-ray stare of Dumbledore's. "I see. Is there anything you may have left out, or forgotten, due to your recent shock?" Harry was about to tell Dumbledore about his intimate moment with Ginny. But at the last second, he changed his mind.
"No, Professor. That's everything." Dumbledore looked thoughtful for a moment.
"Minerva, I believe we should investigate which specific spell caused Mr. Potter's and Mr. Weasley's transformation. And I suggest we start right away, before any other changes occur here at Hogwarts. I will first inform Molly and Arthur of their children's unfortunate accidents. Ms. Weasley will stay in the hospital wing until the rest of the students leave." Dumbledore turned around and walked out, with McGonagall right on his heels.
Harry turned back to Ginny. "I'm so sorry, Ginny. I didn't think anything would happen." He looked at her for a few more seconds before leaving.
"And you have no idea why it happened," asked Hermione.
"No. One minute we were talking, the next minute she stood in the middle of the room and began changing." He had purposely left out the intimate details. He would tell them when everything had settled down. The three friends had just finished packing, and were sitting in their favorite seats.
"It's weird though, isn't it," said Ron. "First Hermione transforms into a cat hybrid, then Harr and I both become canine hybrids. What if something is going around in the school, causing certain students to become part-animal?"
"That's a possibility," said Hermione. "But why us four? We really don't have that much in common, except that we're all in Gryffindor. I wonder if it has anything to do with us being around people." Harry probably knew what it was, but he wasn't going to tell them yet.
"Well, we should probably head down to the train station, or we'll be forced to fly another car home." Ron and Hermione laughed. They stood up, and Harry put his arms around them both. They walked out of the common room, out of the castle, and to the train station, laughing and joking along the way.
