  • * * Sonata Chapter One: Requiem of Darkness Sircosgi Ardiwin was not your typical furson. He was considered by some to be less than a real one, being a hybrid species, or at least a supposed one. Sircosgi Ardiwin was a Kangaroo Rat- in some cases very rare, however his case was even more rare. Sircosgi was a French Kangaroo Rat. He woke up in his small apartment flat that he rented out in a large and overpopulated city in the north and looked at the clock. "Alors," he said softly, "ten hours in the morning already?" He yawned and stretched as he put a tentative paw on the cold floor, immediately sending shivers up his spine. He jumped back underneath the covers and wrapped them around his body. "Another ten minutes," he said to himself before sighing. "I guess not," he said, his voice thick with the French accent. He looked on his bedside table and reached for a pair of socks, put them on his foot paws, and tossed the covers off of him as he stood up. Sircosgi stood a total of five foot high and was very slender. His fur- a light cream and blond- was accentuated by his hair, long and dyed blue with black tips. Not even he remembered the original color. His large blue eyes looked around the room, bathed in sunlight from the open window, looking for the pair of pants he had taken off the night before. He was clad in solely his boxers- this morning a dark blue- and obviously his socks. He ran a paw through his hair, getting the long bangs out of his face as he reached down to scratch his rathood. Currently, he had morning wood, but he just ignored it as he rummaged through his room before remembering he had left his pants in the bathroom after coming home from work late that previous night. He yawned as he walked into his bathroom, found his pants, and moved over to the toilet. Out of habit, he pulled his boxers down and sat on the seat, not trusting his eyes to be accurate without his glasses or contacts. He felt urine exit his body and he sighed in relief. He blinked as he heard a small ringing from outside the bathroom- the recognizable tone of his cell phone. He shrugged- he was too busy to talk on the phone. He finished his business and stood up, pulled his boxers over his quickly softening member, and moved to the sink. He threw some water on his face, rubbed his eyes, and put on his glasses. He looked back at the mirror, everything clearer now. "Merde- I look like shit." He said, his hair mussy and unkempt from the night's sleep. He shook his head as he pulled his glasses off and turned the faucet on to a tolerable warm temperature before sticking his head into the sink and allowing the running water to run over his head. Some water trickled down his neck and ran to his tail- he just shook it off. He reached for some shampoo and washed his hair, letting it sit before rinsing it out. He turned the faucet off and grabbed a nearby towel before drying his hair off. He wrapped the towel around his head as he put on his tight pair of black jeans and searched through his main room for an appropriate shirt- he went with one that had a slogan from a video game. He pulled the towel off and allowed his hair to flow downwards- without any help it reached his mid back. He walked to his bathroom and watched himself as he braided it behind his back. He slid his glasses back on before brushing his teeth and looking in the mirror. "I am ready to take this place on!" he exclaimed, striking a pose. Sircosgi had grown up in rough circumstances, his parents either not at home or drunk when they were. This cycle continued for years, until one day his father, in a drunken rage, picked the then eleven-year old Sircosgi and threw him out of the window of the house. Sircosgi lay on the ground, writhing in pain, as he looked back and saw his father throttling his mother's neck until she stopped squirming. He then came out and kicked Sircosgi until the young kangaroo rat passed out. When he woke up, he was floating in a nearby river, too weak to move, speak, or anything. For some time, he thought he was going to die- however, he was stopped from floating further by crashing into a small boat. After the two mice pulled him on board, they immediately took the young male to the local clinic, where he was between life and death for some time. During this, a formal investigation was launched and the authorities stormed Sircosgi's home, only to find that his mother had died from asphyxiation and his father, after he sobered, had killed himself by impaling himself on a fire skewer. When Sircosgi woke up, it was a joyful day, however he knew deep down what had happened. He fully recovered, yet was left with nothing. His father had squandered most of their money, and what was left had paid for his health bills. He further found himself forced into the state system for orphans and transferred to the capital city for a brief time. There, he found much to hate, feeling himself grow highly cynical towards religion, faith, trust, and in some cases, love. He became less and less of what he was, turning from what was once a sweet and kind male to one that was hard and unmovable, until something had to give. At the young age of thirteen, Sircosgi ran. He ran as far as he could, and when he came to an ocean, he found a way across by begging, pleading, and in some cases hiding. He managed to make his way into a port city in a new continent, and from there began a new life, claiming sanctuary at a Catholic Church, claiming to have no memory, no records, or anything, and beginning anew. Sircosgi, however, paid this no heed as he walked down the street. He had put on a necklace and a tail ring- both engraved with symbols and words- and was wearing his glasses, being too lazy to put in contacts. His hair, rather than remaining in the braid he had done earlier, was hanging free and loose, blowing around in the wind. He held a cup of some hot liquid in his left paw, sipping from it periodically as he walked to work. He carried a small briefcase in his right paw. The call he had received earlier was actually his work, asking him to come in for an hour or two in order to train someone in his job- information gathering for a major corporation. While he did not brag about it, he had a difficult job that he prided himself upon. He had, of course, changed clothing to something more appropriate- a sharp looking black suit with a double breasted jacket- he did take full credit for his fashion skills. He yawned as he walked the final block and entered a building. "Hey," the man at the security desk began, but Sircosgi just waved his identification badge and kept walking- he supposed he should have kept his hair braided, he must have looked different. He walked to his small cubicle, decorated with pictures and graphs from countries he had previously done investigation on, and sat down. Moments later, his boss was standing next to him. "Your ward is here," the large brown bull said. "Grab another chair and sit it next to your desk," he instructed, as if Sircosgi was a young child. Sircosgi complied without complaint- he just wanted to get in and out of work without getting fired. He turned on his computer and waited for the new hire to come. Moments later he heard movement behind him- Sircosgi stood and turned. "Hi, Sircosgi Ardiwin pleasure to meet," he paused as he evaluated the new hire, "you," he said, noting he had been looking at a chest the entire time. He craned his neck up to see the muzzle and proud mane of a tall scaled male with wings- a dragon. He had black scales, deep brown eyes, and was very muscular. Sircosgi coughed in surprise as he extended a paw. "I am Maxamillion Tolli," the dragon replied as he extended a paw that dwarfed that of Sircosgi's and shook, squeezing tightly. He was dressed much more casually than Sircosgi, wearing a shirt, tie, and pair of slacks that were tight on his body. "Please, call me Max," he said as he sat down beside Sircosgi's computer. "Pleasure to meet you." Sircosgi smiled and sat down, wondering why a dragon would pursue this career but put it out of his mind. "Wonderful, Max. To begin with, I will show you how to operate the network. Once you boot up your computer, there is a password encrypted log in to get onto the actual MiFurSoft program. Once on the program, that will allow your exclusive identification to log into our network. With me so far?" He asked. "Yeah- basic operations and procedure," Max said, looking at Sircosgi. "What next?" "Well, that depends. If you are doing information research, you go one way. If you are doing input, you go another. It really depends on the job- here, I'll show you the different ways," he said, reaching for his mouse- or his roorat as he called it- and clicking on a few icons. An hour and a half, two bottled waters, and a hundred internet pages later, Sircosgi had finished his tutorial. Max smiled at the conclusion. "Any questions?" Sircosgi asked. "Yeah- where is my desk?" Max asked. "Oh- so eager, eh?" Sircosgi said, chuckling. "Today was your training. Tomorrow you get your little hell hole. I think that I am also off for the day," he said as he logged his computer off. He stretched and squeaked softly as he stood up. "This concludes your training, et cetera," he said as he shook Max's paw again. "I believe you are dismissed." Sircosgi smiled, picked up his bag and empty container and began to stroll off. "Wait!" Max said, chasing after him. Sircosgi stopped, looked over his shoulder, and smiled. Max walked in front of Sircosgi. "Would you like to go out for after-dinner drinks?" Max asked. "I am still kinda getting used to this, and I would like to hang out tonight," he continued. "I really don't have much of a friend base," he concluded, slightly shamed. Sircosgi shrugged. "Eh, I guess. I need to change first, so we might have to walk to my place first- you have a location in mind?" "Yeah- there's a small bar I go to often. It's only about ten blocks away." Max said, beaming. "Sweet. Well, come along," Sircosgi said as he strode outside, Max walking with him. "Nice place," Max said as he looked around. Sircosgi laughed. "It's cheap, it has enough space for me, and it is fairly safe," he said. "Other than that, it is fairly average. I mean, here we have the kitchen, dining room, bedroom, and everything else except the bathroom," he said, extending a paw to the meager one room. Max laughed as Sircosgi walked over to his bed and took off his jacket. Max immediately blushed. "Do you want me to go somewhere?" he asked. Sircosgi shrugged. "I don't care," he said as he took off his shirt, tie, and pants before laying them next to his jacket on the bed. He looked around, clad solely in his socks and boxers, for the pair of jeans he had been wearing earlier before finding them underneath his pillow. He slid them on, pulled a shirt and lightweight jacket on, slid into some more comfortable shoes, and grabbed his wallet. He nudged his glasses back on his snout and looked at Max as he braided his hair into a single twist. "I am so high maintenance," he said, laughing. Max grinned at the comment. "Meh- I just wake up, throw whatever on, and that's that. No hair to worry about," he says, shrugging. Sircosgi finished the braid and opened the door. "Shall we?" He asked. Max walked out first allowing the kangaroo rat to exit and lock up. The two strolled downstairs and towards the bar. Sircosgi had missed one thing, however. He didn't notice that the tight slacks Max had been wearing had gotten tighter when he had been changing. Sircosgi and Max sat at a booth in the dimly lit bar. Max looked around and smiled, sipping at a large glass of beer. "So, you are from France?" he asked Sircosgi, who was sipping at his wine. "Yes, I came over a while ago when I ran away from an orphanage, and smuggled my way across the pond." "Wait- so you really aren't- how old are you?" Max asked, incredulously. "I am really seventeen." Sircosgi confided. Max was completely shocked. "Wow- how old did you say you were?" "Well, on my records it says I am twenty one. When I came over, I had no records- luckily- so I went to a local school, got a diploma for high school in an accelerated program in about three years. I currently attend a night school, but I work at our job because I am good at information collecting." He said with a blush. Max smiled and nodded, his mind on something else. Across the bar, behind Sircosgi, a pool match was getting heated. The kangaroo rat turned to watch what was happening, and Max reached into his pocket, pulled out a small tablet, and dropped it into Sircosgi's drink. It immediately dissolved and disappeared. Sircosgi turned around and sipped deeply at his drink. "Any more actions like that and they will be just asking for something bad to happen." Sircosgi said, shrugging. "Oh, you mean The Gnasher?" Max asked. Sircosgi nodded. "The male that goes around, beats up other males, takes them to a back alley and rapes them- uh, they fit the profile," Sircosgi said, laughing. Max joined in, tapping a paw on the table in beat with the music. Sircosgi took another drink- almost gone at this point. "So, what all have you done, Max?" Sircosgi asked. "Well, my family and I had a parting of ways a while ago- since then I went to school at a local university, and I have done this and that." His head turned when a fur walked through the door. Sircosgi looked and smiled- it was a tall male calico, well formed all around. Everyone knew him- Aiden. No need for a last name- just Aiden. Sircosgi blushed- he had a long forming crush on him. He looked back to Max, smiled as he drained his drink. "Sounds like fun- I take it you traveled a ton," Sircosgi said, shaking his head- it began to hum. Max nodded. "One could say that," he said as his face began to distort. "Qu'est-ce que ci passé?" Sircogi asked in French, unable to move. Max moved forward. "Here, let me help you," he said as he picked the small male up. A few turned their heads. "Nothing to worry about- he just had too much to drink. Is there a back room where he can lie down?" He asked, softly. The bartender pointed to an abandoned room, warning that it was used sometimes for alternative functions and to watch for needles. Max smiled as he nodded and asked if there was a back way out- he didn't want to drag his friend back through the bar. The bartender shrugged and nodded, telling him the way. Max thanked the man and slid a bill, nodding softly before heading over to the room. He laughed as he lay Sircosgi on the couch therein and closed the door, locking it behind him. "Well, well, well, look what I caught," he said to Sircosgi. "Quoi?" Sircosgi asked, still unable to move. "I must say- most people simply pass out from the Rohypnol. Be proud- you are one of the few who will experience this in its full effect," he said as he grabbed Sircosgi's nape and lay him over the back of the couch. Sircosgi's eyes widened. "Make one sound and you are a dead rat," Max threatened, reaching into his shoe to pull out a knife. "I am not afraid to use it- after all, I am the great, infamous Gnasher." As if to prove his point, he took the knife and nicked Sircosgi's ear. Afraid to make a noise, Sircosgi buried his face into the couch, tears pouring down his face. He felt the knife cut through his jeans, sometimes digging into his leg, before he had nothing covering his lower half. He heard Max- if that was his real name- disrobing behind him. "Now, not one sound," Max said as he leaned over and bit Sircosgi on the neck. He grabbed the usually lively tail and pulled on it, using it as a leash of sorts as he thrust his hips forward, penetrating fully into Sircosgi. Sircosgi- who was still a virgin, screamed into the cushion in pain. Luckily, the sound was mostly muffled, but Max still heard. "You're going to pay for that," he said as thrust back and forth, ripping apart Sircosgi's insides. Sircosgi wanted to vomit, to run, to scream, to do something. He wanted his visions of the past to go away, but they wouldn't.go away, and he couldn't do anything except let it happen. He felt Max pull tighter and tighter on his tail- almost ripping it from his body- as his climax came. He felt something warm and wet shoot into his tail hole- mixing with the blood that was probably there. Max withdrew from Sircosgi's body, panting hard as he sat next to him. Sircosgi felt something running down his leg and dripping onto the couch below. He didn't want to know what it was. He heard Max stand up, walk around the couch. He saw the male look at him and smile. "You made a sound- now you have to pay." He said as he knocked Sircosgi on the side of the head with the back of his paw, punching him in the face, the back, the side, everywhere. He then felt something sharp enter his back, slashing him apart. Blood flowed freely down his body before he saw the floor rising up to him- or was he falling? He couldn't tell anymore. He lay on the floor- too much in pain to even think, as he was kicked several times before Max walked away, put on his trousers, and walked back after unlocking the door. "If you survive- tell anyone it was me, and I will find you, I will kill you- but not before your life is a living hell." He said as he picked Sircosgi up once more, carried him somewhere, and dropped him onto the ground. Sircosgi felt cold- he was probably outside. He looked at the wall and saw bricks- he was in an alley. He closed his eyes, still losing blood. "I am going to die," he said softly to himself, crying as he started to black out. He woke up, later that night, amazed to still be alive. There were street lights up, and he saw others walking back and forth. He tried to call out for help, but couldn't. He had no voice- his throat was dry. He began to cry again, wondering if his fate was death in an alleyway when he heard a noise behind him of a door opening. "Holy fucking shit," a familiar male voice said. Sircsogi stopped crying. "A-a-ide," he said in a low, raspy voice. He saw the area around him light up and somefur walking around him. "Hold on- help is on the way." He heard the voice say as somefur sat down and cradled his head in their lap. As he drifted off, he heard the sound of an ambulance drawing near. He awoke, tubes and wires attached to his body. He blinked, his contacts having been removed- making him virtually blind. He heard someone smile. "So, finally up?" they asked. Sircosgi opened his mouth and rasped. Immediately, he saw a blurry figure move, pick something up, walk over to him, and lean over his head. Immediately, water slowly poured into his mouth- Sircosgi swallowed, greedily. "I am doctor Housenheim, and you are fortunate to be alive, victim of the Gnasher. So far, you are the first one, if memory serves." Sircosgi blinked. "I need my glasses." Sircosgi said. "Um, we have a replacement pair of contacts- we got an examination of your prescription." They said. "After all, you have been asleep for two weeks now." "Tw-tw-" Sircosgi said, almost passing out from shock. "It's okay. There was extensive damage to your entire body- you should be thankful to be awake. Even more, alive." There was a knock on the door. "Doctor- there is a visitor." "Ah, bring him in." Doctor Housenheim said, smiling. "Of course, you have had company." "I- I have?" Sircosgi asked, bewildered, being alone in this world. "I don't really know anyone," he said softly. A calico poked his head in. "Surprise?" the male said. Sircosgi shook. "Ai-Aiden?" He squeaked out. "What are you doing here?" "Well, little one," Aiden said as he moved over to Sircosgi's bed and sat on the side, "I found you, and I want to make sure you are taken care of." He held Sircosgi's paw. "I was worried." Doctor Housenheim walked out for a moment. "I thank you," Sircosgi said. "I don't think I can ever repay you," he said softly, looking down, guiltily. "It's okay," Aiden said, smiling. "Don't worry about that." He leaned down. "The police are going to ask you a bunch of questions. But, if you want, you can talk to me first," he said. "I can help you- what exactly happened that night?" Sircosgi felt tears well up in his eyes. "I- I," he began before breaking into sobs. "J'ai seulment dix-sept ans et-" "English, please," Aiden said. "I am only seventeen," Sircosgi said. Aiden felt his eyes widen. "What?" Sircosgi slightly smiled, then winced at the pain he felt from that motion. "I have no real records, so I tell everyone I am twenty one- it makes life easier. I got my job through that and by bribing the boss," he said. "That's also how I got my ID card." He smiled. "But, I am young, and I really don't have a past." He sighed. "I just wish that Max-" he said before bursting into tears again. Aiden lay down beside Sircosgi and pulled him into a soft hug- Sircosgi amazed at how strong the other was. "It's okay," he said, softly. "Just relax- you don't have to talk now. But, I do need to know- will you be safe when you go home, wherever that is?" Sircosgi thought. "He knows where I live." Aiden nodded. "Okay. Then you will live with me." "Wait- what?" "Well, what else can I do? I wasn't able to protect you earlier- I can protect you now." Aiden said, giving Sircosgi a kiss on the forehead. "When you recover, you will live with me. End of discussion." "Bu-" "Ah ah," Aiden said. "We'll argue later. For now, focus on getting better." He said, smiling and blowing a kiss before exiting the room. Doctor Housenheim re-entered. "So, how do you feel right now?" Sircosgi lay there, blushing furiously. "Just, just fine. I think I will be fine."
