“What the fuck…” John and Sara said in unison.

“Surely you didn’t think you were the only werewolf around, did you?” Jenny joked, lowering her hand seeing John and Sara were too stunned to accept the greeting.

“You bitch, you tortured us for months!” Sara half growled and half whined, partly wanting to bite Jenny for putting her through all she had, but at the same time relieved that she was no longer alone and they might not have to move away.

“I’m truly sorry about that, but as I’m sure you understand, I had to be extremely careful about revealing myself until I was absolutely sure of your situation.” Jenny apologized, her silver tipped ears lying flat against her hair.

“So…what now?” John interrupted.

“Well, I’d like to still be your partner, if that’s okay with you?” the white wolfess asked of him hopefully.

“I think we should let Sara decide” he replied with a questioning look at the ebony wolfess beside him.

Sara gave a simple single nod that she’d understood what John was saying, but for a long moment she wouldn’t say a word. Staring hard at the white wolfess whom was becoming ever increasingly nervous, wrapping her tail about herself and picking at her fur as she shifted uncomfortably under Sara’s unwavering gaze.

Sara took a step closer to Jenny, then another and another until their noses almost touched. Jenny visibly tensed, expecting to be slapped or shoved out the door at any second, even flinching when Sara’s arms raised suddenly. The white wolfess slowly opened first one eye and then both as she peered down to see Sara’s arms wrapped about her in a hug.

“So…does this mean I can stay?” Jenny asked uncertainly.

“Yes, dumbass. Just no more secrets and dumb shit like that ever again, okay?” Sara replied, holding onto Jenny tightly.

“I promise” Jenny sighed in relief and rested her head atop Sara’s on her shoulder.

“Well now that’s all sorted out, care to stay for dinner Jenny?” John chimed in with a broad smile.

The following months proved to be a learning and growing experience for all three involved, Jenny began spending so much time with John outside working hours it was decided she would move in with him to maintain their cover. To everyone outside looking in, they were dating and living together while both working for the park.

Inside the cabin however was a different story, while it had started as just a cover story, eventually as usually happens in close quarters the lines became blurred. Even on the surface if they were all human, being involved with two women would be unusual or perhaps frowned upon. The fact both women were also werewolves certainly didn’t help his feelings, but after sharing his concerns with Sara and Jenny they came to the mutual agreement that there was nothing usual about their relationship to begin with so why be concerned with normal rules and ideas. Neither Sara nor Jenny had any problem with their situation, rather the opposite. The wolf part of them viewed it as just being in a tightly knit pack and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Days turned into weeks and weeks into months, for the first time in all three of their lives, they were content and happy. Sara and Jenny spent a lot of time with one another teaching each other new tricks, Jenny eventually managed to shift into a feral wolfess form and joined Sara on her nightly excursions out into the woods. Try as she might though, Sara could not manage to shift back into her human self the way Jenny could.

“I think it might be something to do with your experience, how you were turned and having been stuck as a werewolf for so many years alone” She’d surmised one evening while watching Sara try to change again without success. “It makes sense considering how dark your fur is.”

“That’s one thing I have been wondering about actually, why is your fur white and Sara’s is black?” John asked as he watched the two women curiously.

“Well from what I’ve gathered is it depends on the person’s acceptance of the gift, or curse, or whatever you call it. It was forced on Sara, she didn’t choose to become this so her outward appearance reflects that” Jenny started explaining, taking a brief pause to collect her thoughts before continuing. “For me…I was terminal with cancer, but I wasn’t ready to die yet. Conventional medicine wasn’t going to save me, so I scoured every corner of the dark web to find something, only that something turned out to be an older werewolf. At first she was reluctant to help me, until I convinced her to come meet me in person. Once she saw my situation and knew how accepting I was of this, she gave me my gift. But like Sara, I also got lonely being the only one of my kind around for miles, so I started looking around again…and found you guys. The rest is history as they say”

“It cures cancer?” John asked in surprise.

“It’s a supernatural curse that lets us turn into half human half wolf beings and that’s the part that surprises you? I haven’t had so much as a cold since I got turned, pretty sure the same goes for Sara”

“So…wait, does that mean the light or dark fur doesn’t mean you’re good or bad?” Sara asked with a note of relief, a subconscious fear accidentally having been laid to rest by this revelation.

“Exactly, there are dark furred werewolves such as yourself that had this forced on them but have made peace with it and are good. Likewise there are light furred werewolves that accepted the curse and are exceptionally evil and cruel” Jenny confirmed with a smile while reaching out to give one of Sara’s hands a reassuring squeeze at sensing her unease.

“So…I’m not going to suddenly turn evil then?” She asked more directly.

“No…well maybe if John doesn’t buy more sausages, but then I’d likely join you” Jenny joked, leaning in to give Sara a comforting hug.

“Sausages huh? I’ve got your sausage right here you filthy mutt!” John mock growled and pounced the pair of them with a laugh when Jenny and Sara squealed in surprise.

The playful tussle on the couch quickly became heated and more passionate as had become commonplace in recent weeks, once the ground rules had been set and the initial awkward phase passed, John found himself spending most nights between Sara and Jenny. Other nights it was just John and Sara, or just John and Jenny. But most surprising was the instance when John had to run an errand and came back to find Sara and Jenny in a rather compromising position. There was no jealousy among any of them, they were openly affectionate with one another and nothing was kept secret anymore.

This night Jenny would find herself on the receiving end of John and Sara’s playfulness as they pinned her down while they took turns making her squirm until she begged for mercy. With her arms wrapped about John’s neck and her thighs about his waist, Jenny lost herself in her passion when her peak hit, in a flash her jaws clamped down on John’s shoulder. The moment of bliss was cut short by Sara gasping and pointing at the blood starting to appear where Jenny’s teeth had punctured his skin.

“It’s okay, it barely hurts” John commented as he clumsily reached over beside the bed to grab a tissue and dab at his shoulder.

“No John…I bit you, I’m a werewolf…” Jenny panted up at him, looking ashamed and afraid as she reached up to touch the wound.

The clouds outside parted to let the moonlight shine through the window, casting them both in a silvery hue. Jenny’s coat shone with an ethereal glow as she stared up at him, her eyes full of worry and regret.

“It’s a full moon too…” She whispered softly, almost regrettably.

“What does that mean?” John asked in confusion.

“It means if you’re infected, you’ll turn into one of us sooner than usual, the curse is at its strongest during a full moon…but you didn’t ask for this so I’m not sure how that will turn out” Jenny answered honestly.

The mood in the room shifted drastically, for the first time in months there felt like there was a great divide between them. Jenny and Sara watched John closely for any sign that he would turn, all through the night with barely a word spoken, but when dawn broke and a bleary-eyed John stumbled through to the kitchen to make coffee, a sense of relief washed over them all.

“Guess I’m immune…or your bite is weak, fluffybuns” He joked, trying to lighten the mood.

“Don’t make me bite you again, smart ass. Next time I’ll nibble on your nuts maybe” A relieved Jenny countered, following John and smacking his behind. Sara followed behind quietly; still a little worried about John.

The tension and separation faded with every passing full moon, John remained unchanged, though they were a lot more careful about biting from then on. Things were starting to return to normalcy finally, but John still did make sure to always let the girls know he’d purchased more sausages whenever he returned with their shopping much to both Jenny and Sara’s display of sighs and eye rolling.

Reports of an injured animal began to come in to the ranger station, at first it was thought to be just a hoax as every time someone went to investigate, there was nothing there. Until even rangers started seeing the injured animal but could never get close enough to get a good look, it always seemed to just vanish into thin air. Whatever it was looked big, possibly a bear or large elk that had been injured as descriptions often mentioned exposed bone and a rotting flesh smell.

The sightings of the creature continued for weeks without the rangers getting any closer to a resolution. Then the disappearances started, lone hikers at first. The reports of the creature continued, but got stranger too, people reported hearing someone calling them from the woods, but when a couple of them went to go look there was nothing but a strange smell in the air.

Local law enforcement had gotten involved and the search area had been expanded substantially as the latest victim had been a mother and her newborn whom had vanished from their campsite while her husband and his brother had gone in search of firewood. The husband had been beside himself when he’d reported it, swearing blind he kept hearing his wife calling him from somewhere in the forest, but couldn’t find her when he and his brother tried.

“Sounds like a Skin Walker to me” Jenny commented while out on their latest search mission.

"Wait, Skin Walkers are real?" John asked in surprise.

"Asks the guy that’s literally been fucking two werewolves for months..." Jenny replied with a sigh and roll of her eyes.

"Point taken" John conceded.

“Are Leprechauns real?” Sara asked jokingly to try lightening the heavy mood.

“Yes, tricky little red haired fuckers too. They’re the reason the world has such an issue with gingers” Jenny replied with no hint of irony, causing John and Sara to share a brief questioning look.

“Wait, do you hear that?” Jenny stopped short, turning her head side to side as she listened.

“No, I don’t hear anything” John replied.

“Exactly…it’s dead silent, not even crickets chirping,” Jenny said in hushed tones “Something is watching us.”

“I feel it too” John affirmed, the fine hairs at the back of his neck already standing on end as he turned around so scan the trees and rocks around them slowly. He thought he saw movement, but with the wind and shadows of the trees, he put it down to his mind playing tricks on him.

“I think we should head back and maybe get more people” Jenny started to say when out of the silence a cry sounded.

“That’s a baby!” Sara hissed, already darting off towards the sound so fast her paws kicked up dirt behind her.

“Sara, wait! It’s not safe!” John tried to call out, running after her in futility as the dark shape of the wolfess darted around an outcropping of jagged rocks and out of his view.

“I’ll change and go after her” Jenny offered, running up alongside John whom just shook his head no.

“Too risky, what if one of the local law happens by and spots you?” He said grimly, slowing his sprint to a jog to try catch his breath. A pained yelp echoed off the rocks about him, filling him with fear and dread as he set off again at full tilt. “Sara!? Sara, where are you!?” His heart pounding in his chest so hard he swore it might crack his ribs, the cold chill of dread slowly seeped into his core when he came across a dark patch on the ground. Kneeling down to touch his fingers to it, raising them up into the light he could see his fingers were stained red.

“Is that blood?” Jenny panted as she finally caught up to him. “Where’s Sara?”

“I don’t know…” John replied, his voice barely managing not to crack as he looked around him but saw no sign of Sara anywhere.

“Let’s…let’s keep looking, she can’t have gone far” Jenny tried to sound confident and reassuring, though she too felt the chill of the unknown seeping into her. Whatever had been watching them before seemed to have left the area, Jenny feared that’s where Sara had gone too and more than likely not willingly.

John and Jenny continued their search well into the morning hours, but tiredness and lack of sleep was starting to make their search become extremely dangerous in the rugged terrain. Upon hearing of Sara’s disappearance more rangers joined the search, but as the hours turned to days with no sign of Sara, their hopes of finding her at all began to fade.

*************************************************************************************

Jenny tried her best to keep John’s hopes alive, but it was written all over his face. He feared he’d lost her again and for good this time. Lying in bed beside him a few nights after Sara’s disappearance, her head on his shoulder and her arm draped across his bare chest, she could tell sleep was not coming easy.

“Can’t sleep?” Jenny eventually asked.

“Yeah, I keep thinking I hear her calling me” John said with a sigh.

Jenny thought it was just his guilt talking, that he was imagining it. As she tried to think of some comforting words to say to John, she heard something too. Holding her breath for a moment, she heard a faint voice in the distance calling.

“John….I’m right here John” the soft voice called out in the stillness of the night. Jenny noticed again there were no other sounds outside beside the voice being carried on a light breeze.

“John…I hear it too…” Jenny finally said, sitting upright in bed and staring out the window at the line of trees in the distance. “Something is out there…”

John turned to look at where Jenny was staring and saw a shape moving between the trees, barely perceptible in the darkness, but it was definitely there. He shared a brief moment of confusion with Jenny before they both leapt from their bed and scrambled to get dressed, John grabbing his shotgun and flashlight before heading out behind Jenny. By the time the cabin door closed behind them they could no longer see the shape moving through the trees, but this time it had left a few footprints behind. Between Jenny’s heightened night vision and John’s flashlight they started following the tracks deeper into the forest and higher up the hill towards the mountainside.

As the soft earth gave way to gravel and eventually rocky terrain, the footprints became non-existent. Scanning around the area where the last print was found, they saw nothing to hint at what direction the shape had gone. John began muttering curses under his breath as he turned around and around, trying to find something, anything that gave them a clue.

“Maybe we should call for backup, come back in the morning with more people…” Jenny started to suggest when a familiar voice called out, sounding closer than ever before.

"Over here...I need help" Sara called out, John stopped and listened for a moment before starting to head towards the voice further up the side of the mountain.

"Wait! That's not her...whatever it is...smells of rot and death" Jenny warned with a note of worry and almost panic in her voice. John unshouldered his shotgun and nodded once to Jenny, closing her eyes and lowering her head she began to shimmer and change from the pale faced blond girl to a ferocious white werewolf. “I’m ready, let’s get moving” she all but growled while staring up at the spot from where the voice sounded like it had come from.

Climbing higher up along the steep side of the mountain they came across old rusted tracks that looked far too small to be a train. John knew these mountains like the back of his hand, or so he thought. Following the tracks further up they came across the opening to what appeared to be an abandoned illegal silver mine. The cave entrance was small, but big enough that an adult would barely have to crouch to enter, but it was angled into the mountain in such a way it was almost invisible from down below the mountainside. Beyond lay nothing but inky blackness, even John’s flashlight couldn’t pierce the imposing darkness very far, but what little it did reveal showed the mine had not been in use for quite some time. At least it looked that way at first, until he lowered the beam to the floor and saw fresh prints in the dirt leading further inside, along with drops of dried blood.

“I’ll go in first, make sure nothing creeps up behind us” John ordered before stepping inside the entrance to the mine, Jenny doing as told and cautiously following behind while constantly turning to keep an eye on the mine entrance.

The further into the mine they went, the heavier the atmosphere began to feel, as if they were descending deep into the ocean. Something in the mine was not natural, it was perhaps evil even, whatever it was knew they were there as well as it continued to taunt them and entice them deeper by calling out in Sara’s voice. John wanted nothing more than to scream, tell it to shut up and stop using her voice, but it was the only thing leading the way to where it was hiding.

The beam of his flashlight met the curve of a wall, bouncing back toward them and offering a bit more light and a sense of brief relief from the cloying and pressing darkness. At least until they noticed the stench, as if something had crawled in and died. John was certain they were going to stumble upon a corpse of something as soon as they rounded the corner; he only hoped it was not Sara’s.

As slowly and as quietly as possible John stepped foot in front of foot and rounded the corner, the narrow passage opening up into a small chamber. The walls streaked with veins of silver half excavated, tools strewn around the chamber in what appeared to be a hurry to get out of the chamber. There were blood spatters too, like something one would expect to find in a Tarantino horror movie.

The stench in the chamber was almost overwhelming, John’s eyes and nose burning from the pungent odor. But the more pressing matter were the room’s occupants, one of whom was staring straight at John. Standing at the center of the chamber was a shaggy looking creature, it looked mostly like a bear, but where its face should have been was nothing but bare skull. Twisted antler horns cracked and broken stuck out from its head, its hind legs looked misshapen or as if they belonged to a different creature entirely. Raising its hollow gaze to stare directly at John, it opened its fleshless jaw and spoke.

“John, I’m right here…I need help” it said in Sara’s voice again with no shade of emotion.

“John…no…run…” Sara’s voice sounded out again, only far weaker, this time it came from the figure laying at the creatures feet. Lowering his flashlight beam down John saw Sara cowering beneath the beast, deep gashes along her cheek, shoulder and everywhere the beam revealed. There was a large dark ring staining the earth beneath her too, she’d been bleeding a lot and John didn’t know how she was even still alive, but he was glad she was.

“I’ll kill you!” John bellowed as he charged the creature, firing off a shot dead square at its face, but it didn’t so much as flinch. “Get Sara out, now!” John shouted over his shoulder at Jenn as a large paw raised to swat the shotgun and flashlight from his hands, the flashlight spinning across the floor showing flashes of silhouettes like a macabre marionette performance as the creature pounced atop of John with an ear deafening roar.

John and the beast collided, toppling back outside of the immediate light of the fallen flashlight, Jenny seizing the moment to dash in and grab Sara to try pull her from the cave. Another deep growl vicious growl bounced off the mine walls, sounding somewhat different to the beast’s first growl. There must be two of them back there, Jenny thought to herself, a thought which sent chills down Jenny’s spine, feeling sick to her stomach as she heard what sounded like large wild animals fighting, probably over their new meal. Growls and snarls combined with pained yelps and cries, the sound of flesh ripping and bones cracking followed Jenny and Sara’s every step out of the mine. Tears streamed down the white wolfess’s face as she realized John had sacrificed himself to save them, so she wasn’t going to waste his gift and rushed as fast as she could for the exit and to get out to find help for Sara.

The fight raged on behind them, the sounds fading as they neared the entrance until they were met by the cold darkness of night. Sara could barely stand let alone walk, even with Jenny’s assistance. Stopping to rest at a large rock not far from the entrance to the mine, the two women shared a knowing look, not wanting to say out loud what they were thinking, as if not saying it would make it not be true. But considering the state Jenny was in, even with the werewolf enhancement she was no match for the creature, John stood no chance other than to serve as a brief distraction.

“The fighting…it’s stopped” Sara weakly said, her eyes lowering to the ground, unable to look back at the entrance.

“S…something’s coming” Jenny hissed uncertainly, preparing to fight whatever it was, she wasn’t going to go so easily.

In the darkness a large shape began to take form, the ivory white of the beast’s boney face began to be revealed as it met the moonlight shining down from above. Jenny growled louder, lowering into a crouch and readying herself to pounce…when suddenly the creatures head dropped to the ground and rolled to a stop a few feet before her. Jenny’s eyes stared in confusion at the creatures detached head before darting up to the mine entrance where a large white werewolf with brilliant blue eyes and silver markings stood.

“John!?”
