Pokemon - To Catch Them All - Meteor Falls
#42 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All
Leo meets some new Pokemon and tries to settle a battle between a Seviper and Zangoose and confronts Team Rocket in Meteor Falls.
I quickly left Fallarbor Town and headed West and reached Route 114 where I really admired the beautiful scenery, it was so tranquil and peaceful. You could spend the day listening to the Water Pokemon swimming along the open waves. Or watch and listen to the crashing sounds of the waterfall as water thundered down. Fishermen were busy fishing for whatever they could find, though most of them were finding Magikarp which didn't dampen their spirits. As I approached the bridge where these fishermen were fishing I was challenged to a battle by one such Fishermen who sent out a Corphish and I sent out my Plusle who used Spark defeating Corphish. The next Pokemon sent out was a Wailmer and I substituted for my Minun who used Spark once again defeating Wailmer. A second Fishermen challenged me with a Gyarados which looked exceptional so I sent out my Manectric and had him use Thunder Fang which defeated Gyarados.
That was all the Fishermen defeated along the bridge and so I continued South down the bridge and came across an area where I could search for new Pokemon. Rotom informed me that there were several new Pokemon I could catch here and they were, Swablu, Zangoose and Seviper. It didn't take long to find my first encounter which was a dainty looking Swablu which landed on my head. I was surprised at the bravery of a Pokemon just landing on a human, especially when said Pokemon is a wild one. Still Swablu seemed uninterested in having a battle and when I asked whether Swablu wanted to accompany me, Swablu simply entered my Pokeball and caught himself. I was stunned by what had happened and was only snapped out of the shock when Rotom registered the new entry in my Pokedex. "Swablu has been registered to your Pokedex. Swablu the Cotton Bird Pokemon a Normal and Flying Type. Its wings are like cotton tufts. If it perches on someone's head, it looks like a cotton hat."
I continued researching Swablu and learned that it wasn't quite understood why Swablu land on people's head and act like a hat. I pondered whether it was because they just trusted humans. Or whether they just did it to save energy instead of flying and whenever they recovered energy then they would fly away. Swablu were also renowned for keeping things extremely clean so I couldn't imagine what would happen when I returned home to Kanto. Swablu would have his wings full keeping my room clean but would get along swimmingly with my mother knowing how she loved to keep every square inch of the home clean and tidy.
My researching was interrupted when I heard the sounds of extremely vicious fight in the grass behind me and when I went to see what was happening. I was and wasn't surprised at what was happening. A Seviper and Zangoose were in the middle of an extremely vicious battle. Zangoose had bites on its body and seemed to be poisoned heavily by Seviper. Meanwhile, Seviper was also badly wounded, scratches and claw marks coated its entire snake like body. They were both extremely wounded and unfortunately, I knew that it was impossible to stop these Pokemon from fighting one another. Everyone knew that Seviper and Zangoose held some sort of extreme grudge against one another. Whenever these Pokemon met they always engaged in the most extreme of battles that were fuelled by hatred.
Foolishly I stepped forward but the two Pokemon didn't even notice my presence to engaged in their fierce battle with one another. Any other species of Pokemon having a battle would have been distracted by the appearance of a human and would have fled or challenged the trainer to a battle. Not Seviper and Zangoose though and they continued clawing one another. Seviper landing yet another bite against Zangoose who retaliated by swiping his claws against Seviper's face blinding him momentarily. I knew the battle needed to be stopped before they inflicted permanent damage against the other or worse. I couldn't help but wonder though, was I intervening in natures will? Essentially was it wrong of me to intervene in something that never involved humans.
Those thoughts stopped me cold and I was actually confused and wondered whether I was making a big mistake. However, some of my Pokemon emerged from their Pokeballs and it was my two Kirlia and Swablu too. Kirlia being the emotion Pokemon could easily understand that I wanted to break this fight up and stop them but equally they knew I felt bad for wanting to use this as a way to catch the two Pokemon. Both Kirlia however, deep inside knew that I would stop this vicious, brutal fight. Swablu disliked such aggressive fighting, now that's not too say that Swablu hated all battles. That couldn't be further from the truth. Swablu hated the aggression that both Seviper and Zangoose showed one another.
I had made my decision and stepped forward once again and this time I was now convinced I was making the correct and necessary decision. "Swablu use Sing and put them both to sleep." Swablu immediately landed on my head and began singing a lullaby which started to effect both Zangoose and Seviper and caused them to eventually close their eyes and succumb to sleep. Once I was certain they had fallen asleep, I grabbed all of my healing items and berries and began administering them to the injured Pokemon. Within a few moment both Pokemon had recovered from their grievious wounds. Seviper's body no longer was covered with scratches and Zangoose was no longer suffering from Poison thanks to Seviper and a Pecha Berry.
Eventually after a few minutes the Pokemon both awakened from their slumber and before they could begin to battle they noticed that they weren't alone and that a human was observing them. Not only that a quick glance at their bodies and they were surprised at how they had been healed up. Both Pokemon begrudgingly ignored the other and approached me. Both Kirlia eyed the Pokemon with suspicion before they realised that the Pokemon meant no harm anymore. "Are you two alright now?" I asked and both Seviper and Zangoose nodded eyeing the other, still angry at the other for whatever reason.
"I know that your species both hate one another and nobody knows why. But, don't you think you could both work together?" The two Pokemon seemed repulsed at the word 'together'. Seviper bristled with anger his tail ready to strike down Zangoose. While Zangoose's claws hardened as he prepared to strike down Seviper. However. they couldn't, they wanted to but couldn't. They weren't under the influence of Confusion from Kirlia nor attacked by Swablu. The human that had healed them both and stopped them fighting had stood in-between them and blocked one another from fighting.
"If your going to fight once more, then you'll have to tear through me first." I said and closed my eyes waiting for the feeling of a bite from Zangoose or a swipe from Zangoose's claw. But after a brief moment, nothing had happened until suddenly, I felt coils surrounding my body in a very tight embrace and nuzzling from another furry face. I opened one eye carefully and was stunned to see Zangoose had tightly wrapped me up in a hug and Zangoose had avoided touching Seviper and was nuzzling against my face his eyes shined with admiration and disbelief. Eventually I began laughing happily and tried to embrace them both but Seviper's coils were much too strong.
Eventually Seviper and Zangoose released me and stood on one side of me once again. I knew that the two Pokemon still disliked one another, but perhaps with some time and careful planning perhaps they could one day become friends. I knew that was unlikely and I couldn't help but hope it would happen. Before I could do anything Zangoose had approached me once more and that sure got Seviper angry as he wanted to be closer to the human rather than Zangoose. However, Zangoose went into my bag and grabbed two Pokeballs and spoke very briefly with Seviper. Seviper begrudgingly spoke in agreement and Zangoose presented me with the two Pokeballs. "Are you saying that you want me to catch you both?" I was stunned and Seviper and Zangoose both nodded in agreement.
I was stunned but tapped the Pokeballs against both Seviper and Zangoose and watched as the balls both shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Zangoose has been registered to your Pokedex. Zangoose the Cat Ferret Pokemon a Normal Type. It has feuded with Seviper for many generations. Its sharp claws are its greatest weapon." Then Rotom registered Seviper to the Pokedex. "Seviper has been registered to your Pokedex. Seviper the Fang Snake Pokemon a Poison Type. For many generations it has feuded with Zangoose. It whets its bladed tail on rocks for battle." After hearing that entry and sighing with extreme relief I was shocked and happy that I had somehow successfully managed to reach the hearts of two Pokemon that had been guided by their instincts for generations and managed to successful convince them to have a go at working together instead of against one another.
I knew it was still an extremely long road of working together, but perhaps one day in a double battle they might be able to work together and what a day that would be. After everything had happened I headed South and was challenged by two girls who worked as a team in a double battle and sent out a Roselia and a Azumarill and I sent out my Swellow and my new Seviper. Swellow used Aerial Ace defeating Roselia and my new Seviper showed his impressive power against the part Fairy Type Azumarill by using Poison Fang which defeated Azumarill. After winning Seviper was quick to embrace me in a extremely powerful hug which felt familiar to Arbok. Swellow watched impressed at his trainer for bonding with a new Pokemon with such speed.
My next opponent was a Poke Maniac who sent out a Aron and I sent out my Breloom who used Force Palm defeating Aron. As I progressed through the route it became more mountainous and the terrain looked to be more challenging but I continued onward keeping an eye out for Team Rocket. The next challenger was a Camper who sent out a Minun and I sent out my new Zangoose who used Crush Claw which defeated Minun. The next Pokemon sent out was a Volbeat and Zangoose showed me he could handle this battle by using Aerial Ace defeating Volbeat. Once the battle was done Zangoose ran on all fours to me before reverting back to two feet like me. Zangoose quickly gave me a hug happy to have defeated an opponent for his new beloved trainer.
My next opponent was a Kindler who sent out a Slugma and I sent out my Numel having him use Bulldoze defeating Slugma. The next opponent was a Wingull and I substituted for my Plusle having him use Spark defeating Wingull. Continuing on a Hiker challenged me with two Geodude and I had Nuzlead defeat them both using Razor Leaf. I continued ascending up the route and came across a massive crater which must have been where a very large meteor had crashed once upon a time. Sure there had been other meteor impacts before, but those had been much smaller, this meteor impact must have been quite powerful to have left this sort of damage.
I was challenged by one more Hiker who sent out a Machop and I sent out my elder Kirlia having him use Confusion defeating Machop. After defeating that Hiker I had reached Meteor Falls and found the location to be rather beautiful with a lake glistening at the bottom with bridges that had been carefully constructed above it. It didn't take long to come across the grunts of Team Rocket and it seemed as though there were no admins nor bosses here, just grunts who had been sent by the higher ups to cause problems. As I approached the grunts were pestering a man who must have been Professor Cozmo and in his hand was a meteor that he kept hidden and protected from these hoodlums.
"Team Rocket leave the Professor alone!" I demanded and it seemed to surprise the grunts as they cried out in shock and turned around to face a trainer they'd never seen before. "Who is this kid?" One grunt asked the other but they had no idea. "All you need to do is let the Professor go!" However, the grunts refused, "why would we do that? The meteorite that the Professor has is very valuable especially to an organisation such as Team Rocket." It seemed like they weren't interested in listening to reason which I should have expected from grunts from a criminal organisation.
The first grunt decided to battle me while his ally attempted to retrieve the meteor from the Professor but he seemed to be handling himself decently well. I chose Spinda to battle against the grunts Golbat and while the grunt seemed amused by my weak and silly looking Spinda he most definitely wasn't laughing when Spinda used Psybeam which defeated his Poison Type in a single hit. The second grunt returned and sighed at his defeated ally and sent out a Grimer which fell much the same way to another Psybeam.
"This stinks, I'd never imagined a trainer as powerful as you would intervene here. So what if we failed in retrieving the meteor. We'll just head back to headquarters and announce that the meteor was useless to our future endeavours of controlling the entire world." At that grunts retreated immediately and I headed over to Professor Cozmo who seemed relatively unharmed and more than anything bewildered at the grunts of Team Rocket.
"Thank you young man, those Team Rocket grunts practically chased me all the way here from Fallarbor Town. I must thank you for rescuing me and keeping my meteor safe. When you get a moment please visit me at my home in Fallarbor." At that the Professor assured me he would be safe returning back to Fallarbor on his own which gave me time to explore Meteor Falls and see if there are any new Pokemon I could catch. Rotom informed me that Solrock and Lunatone were commonly found in Meteor Falls so I began searching for those.
It is important to mention that deep inside Meteor Falls an area which is inaccessible for me at the moment one could find a Bagon but as mentioned it is impossible to find as of this moment. So, for the moment, I began searching for Solrock and Lunatone and eventually came across a Lunatone that floated through the cave as if it had the ability levitate. "Come out Aron!" Aron appeared and stared up at Lunatone who stared back curious as to what was happening.
"Aron use Metal Claw!" Aron raked his claws against Lunatone which had lowered itself down in order to attack but this allowed Metal Claw to land. Lunatone rose back up and used Rock Slide a powerful move but Aron used Iron Defence which protected Aron from the falling rocks. Lunatone waited to see what would happen next. "Aron again use Metal Claw!" Once more Metal Claw landed and scored a good hit weakening Lunatone enough for me to throw a Pokeball. I watched as the ball shook, one, twice but broke open.
Aron remained focused and prepared himself for another attack. Lunatone attacked using Moonblast but luckily the attack wasn't very effective against Aron who brushed the attack off thanks to his good defence and typing. "Aron one more Metal Claw should be enough!" Aron agreed and landed a final super effective hit against Lunatone which seemed to weaken it for sure this time. I threw a Pokeball and watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Lunatone has been registered to your Pokedex. Lunatone the Meteorite Pokemon a Rock and Psychic Type. It becomes active on nights with a full moon, so it is said to have some link to the lunar phases."
After catching Lunatone I continued my search and managed to find a Solrock, it seemed to have been observing my battle with Lunatone and seemed interested to test my abilities for itself. "Come out Pelipper!" Aron had battled brilliantly against Lunatone but floating provided Lunatone with too much of an advantage against Aron who dwelled on the ground. Meanwhile, Pelipper could fly and was super effective against Rock Types.
Solrock started out by using Hypnosis, "dodge that Pelipper!" Pelipper sensed the panic in my voice and dodged as quick and efficiently as he could. "Now use Water Pulse!" Pelipper countered and unleashed Water Pulse. Solrock attempted to counter using Rock Throw, but Water Pulse managed to smash through the Rock Throw and land a super effective hit against Solrock.
"Pokeball go!" I threw a Pokeball at the weakened Solrock and watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Solrock has been registered to your Pokedex. Solrock the Meteorite Pokemon a Rock and Psychic Type. This new Pokemon species is rumoured to be an avatar of the sun. This Pokemon gives off light when spinning."
I was interested when reading Lunatone and Solrock's Pokedex entries because how similar those Pokemon were, they both shared the same genus of Pokemon that being the Meteorite Pokemon. The main difference was Lunatone looked like a crescent moon and seemed more active at night. Meanwhile Solrock looked like the sun and was more active during the day. It was a very curious phenomenon that I wondered if the Professor Oak had been studying.
I had a quick look around Meteor Falls and came across a Moon Stone that had been left lying around and decided it could come in handy for my Skitty should he desire to evolve. At that I returned back to Fallarbor Town and was relieved to know that Professor Cozmo had returned safely. "It's you, thanks again young man for helping me out of that spot of trouble. I wanted to also let you know about the results of my research that Team Rocket attempted to steal. I believe that this meteorite may have some strong connection with the DNA Pokemon Deoxys. This is merely a theory and I have no evidence to back up the theory. Perhaps one day a trainer will catch a Deoxys and I may see if my theory is correct. What a joyous day that would be." At that I finished up in Fallarbor and decided my next destination would be Mt Chimney albeit briefly.
