Chapter. 1
With a final few taps, a click, and five refreshes of rune selection (to prove she was sentient) the ad was posted. She crossed her arms, looking it over, considering. The logo her dad had come up with was, let's be honest, rather 'dad'. It got the point across, but there was ... it, well. "It's dull," she muttered to herself.
"What is?" Sitting on the other side of the room in the big comfy chair, Menia's dad flicked his long ears while continuing to read the day's paper.
Menia had barely spoken her thought aloud and her dad still heard. She bit the inside of her lower lip, part due to frustration, part because of the ho-hum logo. "Your design."
"Is dull?"
Yeah, it was. The black and white silhouette showed a girl with one hand planted on her hip while the other held a leash. There was a small, nondescript dog, at the other end looking back at the girl. "Why's she so bored looking?"
"You can't see her face," Tallish said. He scratched his belly with a claw that flashed from a middle digit, two inches of razor-sharp keratin vanished into his downy blue-gray torso fur.
"It's how she's standing." Menia opened the image in a separate tab. "It's like the last thing she wants to do is walk the dog, she's not even walking it."
"Yeah, they're taking a break."
"Can you change it if this doesn't work?"
"Sure. Fine, but let's give this one a week."
"Okay."
Menia and her dad, Tallish, lived on the outskirts of Stannik Fash, a city on the western coast of Evast, the world's largest continent. To the east, sat a six-hundred mile long mountain range called The Orephms. Stannik Fash was situated smack-dab at the center of the range where the western ocean came within twenty miles of the foothills. Mountains to the east, ocean to the west, and a city of a hundred-thousand there between both.
Tallish had worked as a dock hand for the last thirty years of his life. Fifteen years back he met Menia's mother, a human from the frigid far north, working as a travel writer. She met Tallish when her ship landed at Stannik Fash where she planned to stay for half a year, writing about the region before moving on. Half a year turned into a full year once she became pregnant, but two months after giving birth to her daughter, she was back on the road.
Tallish was in the kitchen, knife in hand, slicing the huge cut of meat into smaller portions to be frozen. "How much do you want?" He half turned and jabbed the air with the knife. "Menia." His daughter was busy looking at her phone, tap-tapping away, lost in her personalized digital world. Tallish growl-barked and his girl jumped.
"Ah!--" She looked up, startled. "What?"
"Dinner?" He poked the meat.
"Yeah, sure."
"How much do you want, Menia?"
"Oh." She pulled her eyes from her phone. "I ... Not much. I'm not very hungry. Do we have greens?"
Tallish set the knife down and walked over to the table. "What's going on? What's so distracting?"
"Mom messaged me."
"Oh? How's she doing?"
Menia picked her phone up. Swiped a bit, going back up in the conversation, said: "She's in Darobini."
Tallish's eyes widened at that. "Finally made it there huh. How's she liking the heat?"
"Says it's not too bad right now. It's their fall. She wants to stay until the spring. She's not sure where she's going."
Tallish held a hand out, presenting a paw with hair rubbed short from years of hard work. It never grew to its full length in his palms anymore, probably couldn't even if he sat around for a year. "May I read?"
Menia pulled the phone back toward herself. "Oh." A sudden blush lit her face. "Uhn--N-no."
A soft growl rumbled in the back of Tallish's throat, his lips pulled back revealing his canines. "No? Excuse me?"
"Dad, I'm sorry, please don't make--No!"
Before she could even try to stop him he'd swiped the phone from her, and held it out at arm's length. "I'm not going to look at this screen..." He pushed his girl's reaching hands away. "...but you need to tell me what's on her, then I'll decide if I look or not."
"It's," she locked eyes with him. How the fuck was she supposed to explain? "It's girl stuff."
"What is?" His eyes darted to the phone. Girl stuff? Oh. That explained a lot. All the alone time, the recent trips to the market by herself. He passed the phone back without a word and went back to cutting the meat. Ten minutes passed. Tallish finished portioning the beef into meal-sized steaks, and finally asked: "You wanted a salad?"
"Mhm."
The rest of the evening went by without a word spoken, neither knowing what to say or if anything should be said. They washed the dishes together, Tallish scrubbing with his tough palm-paw fur, using his claws to pick tough baked crud clean, and passing the cleaned pieces to his girl for drying.
They stayed up for an hour, Tallish sitting in his comfy chair reading, while Menia finished the last of her homework. Or pretended to work when in truth her phone kept her busy most of the time.
Movement tickled Tallish's face and he woke from the half-nap he'd fallen into.
"Night," Menia said, and peppered his snout and cheek with a trip of kisses.
The moment she pulled away he snapped his head to the side and licked the side of her face with a dart of his tongue. She giggled and wiped her face with her forearm.
"Night," Tallish said to his daughter's retreating back.
He stayed up another hour, reading, then decided to call it a night. As he was headed to bed a soft blink on the kitchen counter caught his eye. Menia's phone, plugged in to charge, had a notification. His lips pulled back in a pondering smirk. The rule was that he could look at her phone anytime he wanted, no questions asked. She agreed, which is why she had a phone at all. A father had to have some rules, even though he wanted to let her have whatever she asked for. It was fucking hard to say no, but it was needed. He'd been around little shits whose parents didn't say 'no' enough. They were spoiled, annoying, and disliked by everyone they encountered. Not Menia, not while he had anything to say about it.
He typed in her passcode and went to her messages.
Menia: *Not yet, I've been skipping it.*
Mom: *How long?*
Menia: *This whole year.*
Mom: *Dad hasn't asked about it?*
Menia: *...no. It came up once, when he saw my list of classes, but that was it.*
Mom: *What'd he say about it?*
Menia: *Nothing much, just said, "Oh, sex-ed" and that was it.*
Tallish's nose twitched and he took a couple sniffs. Blood rushed downward between his legs in a sudden surge so quick he thought he'd go dizzy for a half second. When the sensation passed he was left pressed tight against his pants, his cock fully unsheathed and the knot at the base of his engorged cock pulsing with anticipation. The shit was ... He took another sniff. That was a smell he knew all too well.
He scanned the messages, scrolling downward to catch up. Menia had no interest in going to sex-ed, but her mother insisted she start going. She warned her daughter that the school would call and report her tardiness sooner or later. The longer she waited the more awkward the conversation with her dad would be.
Again that scent.
Tallish closed the messaging app and set the phone back where it'd been. He ran a hand over the back of his head, working his paw through his deep brown fur, flecked with salt-and-pepper. He scratched the back of his neck and padded his way down the hall toward his room. The smell grew stronger the closer to Menia's room he went and his cock pulsed in time with his thumping heart, the back of his throat grew tight and sweat broke out over his skin. Flickering light danced across the hallway floor and up the side of the wall, opposite his daughter's room.
She usually left her door open a crack. To close it fully required an inordinate amount of force and only in the past year had she grown to be strong enough to close it herself. It was something about the frame. Six years ago there'd be a massive earthquake. Six thousand of Stannik Fash's citizens had died, a dozen buildings had been leveled, and Tallish and Menia's home had been thrown askew. Tallish had talked to a carpenter he knew from the docks and was told it was an easy enough fix, but time consuming, and thus costly. So the door sat a little funky.
As Tallish passed his girl's room curiosity got the better of him, that damn smell was so ... so fucking good, he had to look.
Menia was laying back--the lamp over her bed at half light--with one hand over her mouth and the other between her legs. Tallish paused for half a second, not even, just enough to see his girl's arm vibrating back and forth in a rhythmic motion.
He stepped into his room and closed the door, but not before taking another deep inhale. He locked his door, unbuttoned his pants, and began stroking himself. He was practically cumming before he was able to grab a towel. Thankfully he got to the master bathroom before that happened. Cum filled the towel, and kept gushing so much that he put himself over the sink and turned the water on to both hide any sound he might be making and wash his fluids away.
He brushed his teeth, looking himself in the mirror, wondering what in the hell he was supposed to do now.
