#12 of Transformation
A dragon has been attacking a certain village, so the residents decide to hire some adventurers to kill the beast. Ulfar and Evarella, a werewolf and a human priestess, after returning from their last adventure, decided to take that mission as well. When they face the creature, even if Ulfar was hesitant of using some of the spells Evarella can cast, he had to in order to kill the dragon
The villagers stared at the destruction left on the ground with hard faces. There lied several dead animals, broken pieces of the grill, scattered straw and some little fires that struggled to survive against the diminishing of fuel. Some of them ceased their paralysis and ventured to check carefully all the damages to the farm. They found no living animals, one of them, the owner, did notice the number of beasts had shrunk.
"This is the third in a month" One said.
"Damn! How am I supposed... no, how are we supposed to pay the taxes by the end of the year?" the owner of the destroyed farm complained "At this rate this monster will destroy every farm in the village".
"We have to do something before that" Someone else, who was inspecting the body of a horse with its belly opened "Does anyone here has any idea about what is this beast?"
"Perhaps a young dragon" An old man replied "The chaos it left isn't that big, beside, it always takes at least one animal with it to its home. A bigger dragon wouldn't attack that frequently".
"A dragon?" dread spread across the men at the scene "We have no way to stand against a dragon, not even a small one!"
"Certainly" The old one continued "We must look for external help. And by that I mean adventurers".
"Hiring and adventurer?" several ones exclaimed dubiously. The old man was right, however, they also knew that they would have to pay a high amount. Even the cheapest adventurer costed some silver coins. And if it was taken into account that they were asking to hunt a dragon, the price would certainly be in golden coins.
"I see no other option" the old man continued, his eyes looked to the ground to hide his face "The lord won't give us help to do the task, also, we don't have the weapons or the skills to put down a beast as powerful as a dragon, even if it's a young one".
"What if we poison it?" A youngster suggested.
"Most dragons are immune to poison" The man with white hair replied, then he turned his face toward the chief who was also there "Do we have some save money, I think we would need at least five pieces of gold".
The chief gulped at the amount the elder was asking. "Yes... I think we have" he answered.
"Good. Find someone who can read and write to make the announcement. We can't hire any foreigner to do this as well" the elder commanded. Rapidly they found the only person in town with those skills, then sent the mission to the closest guild in the region with hopes that some kind heart adventurer would accept the request.
In parallel with the actions that were occurring in the town, a couple was traveling through a forest located miles away. They were a man and a woman, each one riding a horse. The man wore an armor he was also guiding a mule they brought too, the lady, a white tunic, not too long so she could move freely. They marched in silence, faces looked serene, yet they were attentive to their surroundings; years of traveling had taught them that a band of bandits could show up in any instant.
"I'm desperate to take a proper bath!" the woman complained "I still smell the nauseous odor of that thing on me".
"Don't worry, Evarella" the man calmed her down "If we don't have any setback we'll be arriving to town by dawn".
"I know, Ulfar, but unlike you, I'm tired of smelling like this" the woman replied, Ulfar just laughed with his thunder voice.
"Stay at a temple then" he joked.
"I pass" she said "Life at a temple or a sanctuary is too simple for me. Even though I like to stay clean and have some luxuries, I love the adventures. Plus, I think I help more people by going on adventure than by praying in a building".
"With those thoughts I think you could have been a good rogue" Ulfar suggested.
"No way, even though they specialize in long distance attacks, mages have less contact with the targets. Plus, remember I'm a priest, healing and supporting magic is what I do best. I only attack if it's extremely necessary" Evarella stated.
"And I thank you for that" A big smile appeared on the tough face of Ulfar which contrasted with the delicate features of Evarella "But sometimes I think you exaggerate with some supportive spells. You know what I mean"
"Well..." Evarella's face reddened from embarrassment "I just take precautions".
Ulfar threw her an accusative look. "Precautions? Yes of course"
They continued their way through the forest. It was summer, so trees were still green. Even though the canopy was dense, sunrays reached the ground, creating a web of light and shadows over the wood's floor. It was hot as well, a proper summer day, but the couple did not complain too often, even with the beads of sweat that formed over their eyebrows. Apart from the usual noises of the forest, such as birds and animals, it remained silent during their march until they set a camp in a forest glade before sun set.
Ulfar went to hunt, Evarella recollected some berries, aromatic herbs to spice the meat, and firewood. The man returned with a pair of rabbits before sunlight disappear completely in the west. He flayed them, then took the guts out so Evarella could cook them. After eating them, they remained some hours by the fire, talking about the recent adventures they had had. The bounds between them were strong, almost exceeding friendship; they were so close that they even slept together.
The couple continued his travel when the first lights appeared in the east. They had a light breakfast, mainly the berries Evarella found last night. The trip continued to be as peaceful as it was the day before, so they arrived by noon to the city without problems. Rapidly the priestess looked for a room to take a proper break from the travel. Of course it has to possess a proper bathroom, as well as an excellent food. Ulfar, on the other hand, went to the guild in order to confirm the success of the mission, later he went to some shops to sell what they brought.
Evarella, now completely clean and perfumed, even with a better outfit, with his partner Ulfar, who also changed his clothes for a more casual one, were having dinner at the inn's dining room. Today's menu consisted in duck at the oven, boiled potatoes with butter, a salad of cucumber, cabbage and lettuce and a soup of chicken. For dessert a strawberry pie. Ulfar drank some beer, while Evarella, rather wine. Once they finished, they stayed there with the other clients to listen to the artists that were singing some romances, but as soon as they finished the song, they began another more rhythmical which put everyone to dance with it. Later that night, they went to sleep.
Next day, they went to the guild, even though their plans were to stay a little longer to rest entirely from the trip, it was good to see the rest of the other members of the guild, as well as taking a glance of what new interesting missions were posted.
"What's new, Gillan?" Ulfar asked the receptionist of the local who was checking some papers by that time.
"Hey, hi, Ulfar and Evarella!" Gillan saluted them back, leaving the papers on the desk "The usual."
"I guess cities are always kinda boring, aren't they?" Ulfar joked, the three of them laughed a little.
"Well, some robberies, one or two even ended up in murderer, the lord's family living another scandal... prices rose again, yes, the usual" Gillan said.
"What about the missions, is there something interesting?" Evarella asked.
"Now that you mention it..." Gillan took his index finger to his lips thoughtfully "Some days back, a villager from Araqua came to deliver a request. I think it's about killing a young dragon that is destroying the local farms" he pointed out.
"A dragon?" Evarella's eye shone with excitement "Show me the post!"
Gillan went as quickly as he could to the wall were missions were posted, then went back to his desk with a paper in hands. Evarella took that when he handed it to her.
"Indeed" she said without taking her eyes off the paper "the locals are asking for adventurers that are willing to kill a young dragon, the price... five pieces of gold? I think it's a little cheap, but..."
"Oh, come on!" Ulfar thundered "Don't be so greedy. For what I could read from here, that monster had attacked three farms already and they fear the payment of the taxes by the end of the year" He pointed.
"You are always that good with people"
"Sometimes I really wonder if you are a true priestess" Ulfar mocked her.
"Ok" Evarella handed back the mission to Gillan "We accept it, we will depart to the village in a few days, after we rest properly."
They spent five days at the town: the first three were just to relax, while the last two, for preparing for the mission. Evarella bought some potions, mainly to restore her magical power, as well as some concoction to heal poison or health. They also picked up the new weapons and armor that were ordered when the arrival. Finally, they bought some provisions for the trip.
It took a day to reach for the town. It was a small one: a square at the middle, with a well, the chief house and a little temple. Houses bordered the streets, which were not paved and due to the recent rains that had been falling they were turned into a muddy road: a mixture of mire, horse puke and debris. Houses were mainly of one floor, but some of them, mainly the principal buildings such as the inn, the temple or the chief's house, had two. All of them were built of solid oak wood, some were also painted in reddish tones.
A multitude gathered around Evarella and Ulfar when they arrived. They had afraid looks, it looks like not many foreigners used to come. Evarella stepped forward, with the brightest smile she had.
"Greeting!" she saluted them, that dragged the attention toward her "We are adventurers, we came here to take the mission you posted some days before".
The villagers softened their attitude, but they were still on guard.
"Oh, of course!" Evarella smiled again, this time a little ashamed "Let me show you our papers" she said while looking inside his bag. The villagers watched her with curiosity. Some seconds later, she drew one piece of paper and showed it to them.
"See?" she asked "this is a document that certifies we belong the Aranis Guild, the one you went to post the mission of killing a young dragon".
A man, who seemed to be the chief, ordered someone to take that document and examine it. That person approached with a few rapid steps to Evarella and took the document, returning back to the multitude, next to the chief. He read it, made some comments with the chief, who in returned turned his look to the adventurers and nodded.
"He said it's true" the chief sentenced. Those words completely changed the behavior of the people around, for they relaxed and smiles appeared on their faces. They soon went to greet Evarella and Ulfar. The one that seemed to be the owner of the inn, invited them to be hosted in one of his rooms, while ordering a young boy to take their horses to the stables and feeding them with the best they had. Evarella and Ulfar, on the other hand, were conducted to what the owner said it was the best room of the inn. It was not as fancy or sophisticated as those in the city, but for a little town's standards, it was certainly excellent. Ulfar decided to unpack, while Evarella went with the owner to pay the amount of days they would stay.
That night they stayed at the inn. The place was nice, it looked like it also served as place of meeting and relaxation of the town, for many men gathered there when the night fell upon them. The dining room exploded in laughs and happiness, jars of beer traveled across the hall, some musicians played a cheerful song that put many on their feet and began to dance, while other just sat but sang or clapped their hand at the rhythm of the music. Evarella and Ulfar guessed that, even with the dark situation the town has going through, they still had some moments to just forget about their problems, or they just ignored them.
The music still sounded when both adventurers went to their room to rest properly from their journey. Tomorrow, they will meet with the principals in the town to investigate all that was related to the attacks so they could figure out a good strategy against the beast. They knew that a dragon, even if it was young, was something to be concerned about. They were intelligent creatures, some, the eldest, could be as smart or even more intelligent than a normal people.
Next day, after eating a good breakfast which consisted in slices of ham, some eggs, butter bread and fresh milk, they went to meet the chief at his house to know well the situation. The residence was quite different to what they had saw until then in the town. It still was made of wood, but the quality was higher. They were told it was from a very rare tree that grew far in the mountains. Furniture were made of the same wood as well, but it also had some carving; the main themes dealt with nature: leaves, trees, wild beasts. The figures were slender and dynamic, it seemed the artists avoided empty spaces, for the designs covered most of the piece. This could be appreciated on the carpet as well.
The chief was fatter than most of the villagers, yet not as much as those lords who barely could stand on foot, he just had a little belly. His clothes were finer than the rest of the population, yet they were still sober, a silver necklace marked his rank. By his side were other villagers, such as the elder: a man that must had been impressive in his years of youth, for he looked tall despite the progressive bending of his back due to the old age.
"So..." Evarella, after accepting the invitation to sit asked "Tell us the details about this beast you claimed to be a dragon".
"It's been a month since the attacks began" the elder looked at Evarella with his brown eyes "Three farms had been destroyed, but it was the last one where I had a chance to inspect the damages".
"What makes you think it's a dragon that caused all this?" Evarella inquired
"Some animals were missing" the elder continued without stammering, he was definitely certain about his own words "There were few tracks, most lied next to the killed animals. So I guessed the creature was a flying one".
"There are several monsters that are able to fly as well" Evarella interrupted.
"How many of them breath fire?" the old man questioned "Moreover, I saw some scales scattered around the farm too and the tracks I found were more reptilian as well!"
Evarella did not answered back immediately. This man did discover the animal. Of course, some other animals could fit into those features, but they lived far from the village, so the chances were scarce. She wondered how did this old man had all that knowledge, even if he was old, unless he were a specialist, it was unlikely that a person had that information. She took a mental note about interviewing the man after they finished the mission.
"Do you have a map of the region?" She asked "I would like to see where the attacks occurred as well as the surrounding of the village"
The chief nodded to confirm, then asked one of his servants to bring him the map that was in one of the bookshelves. The map, which was made of lamb skin and painted with black and red ink, was extended over the table located in the center of the room. Evarella, as well as Ulfar, inspected the map thoroughly. The town was located more or less in the middle of the map surrounded by a forest that extended from the west, north to the east. Its eastern border gave way to a mountain chain.
"Where did the attacks occur?" Evarella asked again without taking the eyes from the map.
"Here" the chief pointed three marks in the map which were located at the east of the town.
"I see" Evarella said analyzing the information she had in hand as well as watching the map "I would say the animal hides in this mountains" she indicated with her index finger "Are there caves in those mountains?"
"Plenty of them!" the elder exclaimed "the cave system of those mountains are well developed".
"A perfect place to make its nest" Ulfar added.
"Some miles separate the village from the mountains, if we leaf now we would be there tomorrow" Evarella suggested to her partner, who just nodded in return "Let's refill our provisions and start our trip already!" Ulfar nodded again. With this, the meeting was over. The adventurers returned to their rooms to pack everything, then went to the local market to buy some more supplies, just in case, also to the well and finally leaved the town.
They first passed wheat fields before entering the woods. The wheat was still young, the grain had not ripened yet, but it seemed that harvest would not be a problem this year. Some cows grassed in the distance, some of them very close to the forest, there were some herds of sheep as well, but they were little, they did not compare to those they had seen in other regions.
As they entered the forest, vegetation increased gradually. It was a mixed forest, typical of those regions not so far in the north. Ferns indicated that rain used to fall frequently and in abundance. One thing they did notice was that, as they go deeper into the wood, it became more silent, big beasts started to disappear until even birds were missing as well.
The sun was about to sink in the west when Ulfar and Evarella decided to camp. By then, even vegetation was becoming more scarce. Plants looked ill, their size were smaller. Those were bad signs for both adventurers.
"This is not just a young dragon" Evarella said to Ulfar "Look at the trees, the soil seems to be poisoned"
"Indeed, this is an ancient dragon" Ulfar nodded "We must be careful when we face it"
"My magic against poison would certainly be helpful"
"Definitely!"
They thanked the fact that they bought some provisions before coming. Ulfar could still hunt, but he would have to move back to try to catch something, for no beast lived in that region. They thanked even more the water! Definitely the one they could find there was poisoned at some point.
They left the camp at dawn. As they got closer to the mountains, vegetation gradually diminished. Trees were out of leaves, no grass was growing on the soil, even with all the available sun. The forest then gave place to a barren land, full of grey rocks and dust. Right in front of them were the mountains that looked like dead giants from an ancient battle.
Ulfar and Evarella made a short stop when they arrived to the foot of the mountain. The sun was almost at its zenith, the lack of vegetation made its rays feel like red irons were burning your skin. After a quick inspection, they found an entry to a cave, big enough for a dragon. They ate something in order to regain strengths and then proceeded to enter inside it.
The cave's entry was as dead as the outside, both adventurers did notice a nauseating smell, perhaps the poison of the creature. Evarella casted a spell of protection against poisoning over themselves, Ulfar lit a torch, then continued their journey into the deeps of the cavern. As they advanced into the darkness, temperature dropped gradually, the scent intensified, it was getting hard to breath with that miasma surrounding them.
The grotto was a labyrinth indeed. It did not take much until they found bifurcations and several tunnels on their way down. However, they did not fear to get lost inside of it, for they managed to find the tracks of the animal on the floor. It looked like the only living creature of that cave was the dragon. If any other animal used to live there, it had run away or had been killed by the dragon long ago. They did not even find bat feces.
Their steps and the sound of water dripping from the ceiling were the only sounds to be heard in that cave. The water formed several pools and streams in some segments and tunnels, while stalactites hanged from the ceiling, some of them were so big that they were on the way to turn into columns of solid rock. It was certainly a splendorous view down there.
The sound of a breath killed the silence that Evarella and Ulfar had been surrounded with after a couple of hours. They stopped in order to listen carefully to determine the direction of the sound, as well as to know if the beast looked to be asleep or awake. It looked like it came from one of the halls that opened almost before them and that the creature was sleeping. Both adventurers entered the tunnel as subtle as possible. It was easier to kill a sleeping dragon than an awake one.
The hall they entered was the biggest that had found so far. It was as tall as wide. Some stalactites and stalagmites, as well as some columns, seemed to had been cut down, maybe the dragon itself, in order to do more space to walk in and out, did it. The beast was located in the center of the hall. Both stayed alert, it looked like it was a spider dragon, named like that for its ability to create silk threads that were used as an alarm system and for hunting. The main problem was that those threads were so thin, perhaps not as spider's, but it was enough for making almost impossible to notice them in a dark cave.
Ulfar and Evarella advanced through the tunnel with precaution, stepping as quiet as possible, hoping for not being in contact with one of the threads. They took a mental note to get a certain concoction that was used specifically for these kind of situations; its name was clarity spray or similar.
They had advanced half the way to the dragon when one of the threads was activated. Ulfar did not noticed it until his hand touched it. He prayed for the signal was so weak that the dragon would not notice it, but hopes vanished when the shining green eyes of the creature glared in the darkness. The tunnel trembled while the dragon stood up. It was ten meters of height and perhaps three times in length. The body was slender, grey scales covered its skin, wings were unfolded.
"Well, let's start with the action!" Ulfar announced to his partner. Evarella nodded and began to cast a spell. A glowing circle appeared over Ulfar's head, projecting some green light over him.
"I casted a poison protection over you!" she yelled "Let me add some more spells to improve your physical conditions and protections..."
"For now just add all the needed protections!" Ulfar cut her "Let's use them when it's really necessary".
Evarella nodded again and continued reciting her enchantments. Ulfar, on the other way, moved closer to the dragon slowly, which did not take its eyes away from him.
"It's done!" Evarella exclaimed, which made Ulfar ran straight to the beast, sword in hand. The dragon roared for an answer and unfolded its wings. The invisible strands that covered the tunnel became visible, some of them detached from the ceiling and floor, wagging in the air. Ulfar had heard about this, these dragons could use the threads as weapons in order to stop its opponent or even cut it into pieces, for they could be as sharp as the deadliest of knives.
The dragon sat on its hind legs and swayed its fore claws, the threads began to move towards Ulfar, but he noticed them before they even touched him, he managed to cut them with the sword and continuing the running to face the dragon. The monster moved its claws once again, this time to form a kind of wall to prevent the advance of the warrior, but Ulfar could break it before its formation. Nevertheless, the beast continued, changing its strategy constantly, but Ulfar was as fast as the dragon, avoiding most of the deadly threads.
I think it's better to cut most of the threads before killing that thing. Ulfar changed his trajectory to the right without stopping waving the sword, cutting as many threads as possible.
"Well done, Ulfar!" Evarella yelled in the distance "spider dragons need some time to produce silk. Cutting the existing threads can be useful".
When Ulfar was at the half of the circle he was running around the dragon, some rocks began to fell upon him. The dragon had changed the strategy again, now he was throwing rocks with the threads upon the warrior. Ulfar tried to avoid them, but it was difficult to destroy the threads and avoid the rocks, so he focused on continuing his previous task. Evarella, after seeing the situation, focused on healing her partner as much as possible, as well as casting a little protection spell that reduced damages in a 10%. She also took one of the potions the had bought to recover her magic power.
The rocks stopped falling when Ulfar cut the last strands, so now he jumped onto to dragon, making a cut in one of its limbs. Even though he attacked as strong as possible, the dragon's skin looked to be like an adamantium armor, for there was almost no damage. The dragon hit the warrior with his tail as a response, throwing him against a column. Ulfar managed to stand up again with just some dizziness.
"This bastard is tough" Ulfar gasped, then ran once more against the reptile, this time cutting several times in different places, hoping he could find a spot where scales were thinner. However, he provoked little damage, only made some scratches.
"Fucking overfed lizard!" he roared "Why the hell are you so damn hard?"
The dragon roared back and then attacked with his claws. Ulfar stopped them with his shield in the last second.
"Ok, you asked for it" Ulfar yelled.
"Do you want me to do that?" Evarella screamed back, her face had illuminated as she knew what was Ulfar talking about.
"No!" he roared "Let's see if I can handle this bloody lizard without doing that" the light that had been turned on Evarella's face disappeared because of the disappointment.
Ulfar then made distance with the dragon, going to one of the darkest places in the cave, his body was surrounded by shadows, yet, a savage and unnatural glow came from his eyes. A low growl came from his throat, Ulfar showed his teeth that, somehow looked sharper that usual human teeth. The nails of his hands began to grow progressively, turning into claws. Hair became longer and denser, rapidly covering his fingers and hands in a dense black fur coat. Hands seemed to increase their seize as well, which also spread to the forearm and then the arm, muscles blasting in mass.
The armor resented from the new mass it had to contain, but it did not break, but adjusted to the changing anatomy of its owner, it was enchanted. It was too expensive to have to buy or repair an armor every time Ulfar had to transform during a mission.
The transformation of Ulfar continued. The fur had extended all over his body, it was reaching now his face. The warrior closed his eyes strongly, the hardest part was about to begin. Ears grew longer, their shaped became less rounded and more pointed. They gradually moved to the top of the head. Nose and mouth, on the other hand, protruded forward, giving more space to the new formed teeth that were more lupine than human. The tip of the nose enlarged and wetted. Lastly, a tail sprouted from his rear.
The werewolf Ulfar gripped his sword tightly between his meaty paws while facing the dragon that stared perplexed.
"Let's see if your skin can hold the force of a were beast now" he mocked at the big reptile. The dragon roared in response, as if he were accepting the challenge. Ulfar then contracted his legs and jumped, landing very close to his enemy. As he landed, he swung his sword, reaching a side of the dragon and drawing some blood.
"Take that, motherfucker!" the werewolf roared of enthusiasm, yet the cut was still superficial. Ulfar continued attacking the beast unstoppably, every hit cracked the scaly armor a little, sometimes some blood landed in the ground, but in general damages were minimal. The beast was proving to be a challenge.
The dragon tried to fight back. It waved his tail against the werewolf warrior, but after having acquired the new form, not only his strength was increased, but speed as well. Ulfar could avoid each strike of the dragon easily, while continuing his attack. Both creatures were immersed in an epic battled, full of blood and scales. The dragon mainly stayed in his position, focusing on defending himself, while Ulfar was devoted to attack the reptile. Soon his sword was completely cover in blood, but the dragon gave no signs of exhaustion.
The dragon stepped back in a moment were Ulfar was preparing for another strike, but at the moment it increased the distance, the dragon opened the mouth and expelled some fire over Ulfar. A column of flames traveled across the hall, hitting the werewolf, rapidly increasing the temperature of the shield. The force of the impact was enough to push the warrior some meters back, but Ulfar could keep his feet strong in the last moment, impeding to move himself further back.
Some smoke began to form around the two fighters; its smell gradually spread across the hall until it reached the nose of Evarella. She could then perceive the scent of burnt fur. Wrath invaded her mind, face colored in red. She held her staff with strength, raised it to the air and spoke.
"I won't allow you to cause any harm to my doggy!" She yelled, wrath was carried in her voice. Without wasting any more time, she began to cast a spell.
"No, you don't have to!" Ulfar yelled back. The dragon had stopped to breath fire over him.
"Oh, mighty Hallagar, lord of warriors, master of bravery, hear my praying and grant the hero standing against this filthy creature the strength to defeat it..." She did not listen to Ulfar words, but continued with the enchantment. A magic circle formed over her and as the spell continued to be casted, its bright intensified, while the patterns became more complex. Ulfar, on the other hand, giving up his attempts to calm her down, continued his fight against the giant reptile. The tunnel had filled with the sounds of the sword hitting the hard skin of the dragon, its roars as well as with the voice of Evarella casting the spell.
A light hit Ulfar, he felt something exploding inside him, as if restrictions of his body were cut. An overwhelming amount of energy travelled through him. Muscles contracted and expanded abruptly, almost exceeding the capacity of the armor to contain and adapt to the increasing strength of the werewolf.
"Fuck!" Ulfar grunted while his arms exploded is size, both length and width. Veins became visible under the dark fur of his arms, tendons of the hands hardened and expanded. The growth spread like a wildfire across his body: shoulders blasted, pecs protruded forward and turned into a big pair of mountains which hid the view of his feet for some minutes, until the rest of the body caught the rate of growth. Neck thickened, a pair of veins widened to carry enough blood to the brain who was being intoxicated by the excess of dopamine and oxytocin in his bloodstream. This time the boots could not hold the feet that rapidly enlarged inside them: claws managed to tear the leather, letting the wolf paws to outgrow the boots and be free.
Ulfar had become a menacing presence, for he not only had increased his muscular mass, but also had added some more head to his height, he had reached almost four meters.
"Well..." he inspected his new muscular body, flexing his arms "I guess this will end now"
Ulfar contracted his legs, bloating all muscles, then jumped onto the dragon, swinging his sword over his head. The weapon impacted on the dragon's neck, a trickle of blood was expelled from the cut, covering the werewolf's face and the floor below them. The dragon roared in pain, the cut certainly was deeper than the previous ones.
"Yeah, we will end this fight now" the baritone voice of the wolf thundered across the hall, which caused the dragon to tremble. It knew it, this person had become a threat, yet it tried to fight one more time. The dragon ran to the warrior who waited for it, the beast raised a claw against him, but Ulfar easily avoided the impact. Then he swung his sword against the creature, impacting once again in the neck, this time the cut was even deeper than the last. Ulfar waved his sword again, this time focusing on the limbs, the dragon roared as a response, it could not avoid any of the attacks of the werewolf, for he had become too fast.
The dragon had retreated further back into the cave, it was exhausted, blood was dripping over the floor, it was a matter of time to it to die. Ulfar decided to accelerate things, so he jumped once again, piercing the chest of the dragon, right in the middle, where limbs joined the serpentine neck. The dragon wanted to roared in pain, but the blood filled his throat, so the sound was drowned. Ulfar put all his strengths in the sword and lifted it across the neck, cutting it in two until he reached the head. The reptile fell lifeless over the floor.
Ulfar cleaned his sword before sheathing it, then looked back to Evarella who was jumping cheerfully.
"We did it!" she exclaimed, jumping over Ulfar's body who still had the effects of the spell.
"Please, next time wait until I ask you to cast that spell" he said sternly.
"Oh, come on, I couldn't tolerate that your precious fur to be burnt" she complained.
"Don't make a fool of me. I bet you were anxious to cast it, you, muscle fetishist!" he roared lowly. Evarella's face blushed.
"Well... that too, I won't deny it" she smiled "You know me well".
"Five years being partners, I guess I should". Ulfar features softened.
"Well, let's cut the head of this thing, look for materials it could possess and head back to the town" she suggested.
"Indeed" he put Evarella down to the floor "Can you take the spell off me, by the way?"
Evarella narrowed his eyes to these words.
"Ok, I promise to let you cast it again back in the village, in our room" He sighed, which was enough to bring back the happiness to Evarella's face.
Nayar Leng
