Chapter 1: Moonlight, Destruction, and Sorrowful Night
A gentle song could be heard in the far off distance. Sad but beautiful, deep but passionate, some would think of it to be an angel while others would be in total shock to see who this voice could be. Away from any society was a peaceful little village with few residents this group of human villagers were never disturbed by any outside society for many years. Along the border of this village was a lake brimming with life and tranquility. Next to that lake was a young boy singing a sad but beautiful tune almost as if it was a wolf's howl.
In the middle of the tune he heard a female shouting from the village, "Kane!" shouted the voice. Kane turned away from the lake to look and see where the voice was coming from.
"Come on it's getting late, and dinner is almost ready please come inside!" Kane's mother shouted to him.
"Alright I'm coming!" he shouted in response. Kane had the strangest feeling that something bad was on the horizon of that evening but unsure of what was to come he couldn't quite understand it. So instead of pondering about it he decided to go inside to go and eat the delicious meal that his mother whipped up for him. "So mother what is for dinner?" Kane asked walking in to the comfy cottage within the village. "We are having some fruit from the forest and Salmon from the river, which I know is your favorite thing to eat," Kane's mother, Flora, said to him. "Yum my favorite indeed, I will be sure to clean up after finishing," he replied knowing that after meals he was supposed to clean up once the meal was over.
"By the way Kane were you singing out there by the lake again?" Flora asked while curiously looking at Kane. Kane looked down with a hurt expression and replied respectfully, "Yes mother, I just felt bored and.."
"No ands about it don't sing you know the reasons why you and I can't sing around here if we do we might draw attention to the slavers that hunt around our peaceful little village, YOU KNOW THAT!" she yelled interrupting his ashamed apology. "I know that you like to sing I just don't want to cause this village any danger because of it, so please don't do it again," she said almost looking like she was about to cry. Kane replied, "I'm sorry, I promise I won't do it again so please don't cry" having a face filled with worry and sadness. "I'm fine and thank you for listening, but we need to finish our meal so hurry up and get cleaning we don't want to make the villagers wait on us tonight is the celebration of having 200 years of peace," Flora said hoping he would finish his meal. "Yes mom," he said before shoving the last bites of food and drinking the last of his water down. So he grabbed Flora's and his wooden dishes and put them in the water to be washed for later but he had to hurry and get himself cleaned before the celebration began so he ran to the washroom and began to vigorously wash his pure white skin, drench his blonde hair, and wipe his face which had hazel colored eyes with his features.
"Are you finished dear we have to get moving," Flora said loudly. "I just need to get dressed can't go out there naked now," he retorted with sarcasm knowing full well that he was being a little bit arrogant. "Hurry up or you will miss it and you know how everyone hates not seeing people there," she said trying to make him move just a little faster. "Yes I know I am coming," he said throwing on clothes and trying to get moving out the door he looked at his shoes and thought why bother. Finally when he made it out of his home he saw the bonfire and everyone chatting laughing, playing, getting drunk, and he felt happy knowing that everyone was having fun and being excited about celebrating. For him though he didn't like celebrations they felt uncomfortable to him so he always felt misplaced so he decided to go by the lake again and lay down next to the water away from the noise and sounds of the celebration happening back at the village. Little did he know that while the people were celebrating there were eyes watching the villagers intently as if stalking their prey with their stare being hidden from the any of humans that might see them.
Finally with the celebration coming to a close Kane's mother went to the lake because she knew he didn't like large crowds and noises so she walked over to him as he was staring into the night sky looking at the stars and the moon within the sky. She finally sat down next to him and said "So you like looking at the night sky huh?" she asked him wondering what her son might be thinking.
"Yeah it's so peaceful and nice to look at but sometimes I wish I could just stay here and look at the stars while singing but I don't want to cause anyone trouble knowing full well what might happen if I do," he responded with a smile. Flora knew that if he did he might draw the slave trading Cougars around and she didn't want the village to lose its peacefulness. "I know it's hard not too and I have lived just fine without it, and I'm sure you can do it too. But we should start heading back to the....," she said but was suddenly cut off by a piercing scream that caused both of them to jump and look towards the direction of the village. Both of them could hear more screaming and grew frightened about the situation so they decided to hurry and run to see what was happening then Flora's worst fears came true. There they were large muscular Cougars that were ravaging the village killing the men that were trying to fight and beginning to take the single women and children. Flora turned to her son frightened and whispered fiercely to him "Run like you could run on water hurry if they find you.......," she paused for a second not wanting to think about what would happen to her son. "Just run, and if anything happens to me just know that I love you," she said hugging him and running into the village. Not thinking he took off not out of fear but out of respect because he didn't want to disobey his mother. What happened next when he turned around he saw a dark sphere appear out of the sky coming towards the earth and saw the village turned into crystal knowing full well what had happened, but he kept on running for his life hearing more footsteps following him as he tried to escape his pursuers crying trying to get away. Finally he made it to the river knowing that he couldn't cross it he turned around and saw a cougar with an eye patch glaring at him with his deep crimson eye. The cougar spoke, "There is nowhere to run boy so don't try anything stupid or we might have to kill you," he said with an evil looking grin upon his face. Kane only thought one thing jump and so he did.
"Dammit go, go you fools track him down make sure he doesn't escape catch him whatever it takes," he said as he too began chasing the jumper thinking That human is insane he can't possibly survive that river. Kane had trouble trying to keep himself covered while getting air and avoiding any dangerous rocks he was a pretty decent swimmer, but only if the water was calm a raging river caused him much difficulty. He finally made it to the other side of the river with little strength left. With that last bit of strength he crawled to a pile of rocks and began to hide behind them hoping that they wouldn't find him.
The eye patch cougar and his hunters had so much trouble trying to find him some believed he died but the cougar with the patch wouldn't give up and another ran up to him with his report on the situation. "Sorry Snare we have had so much difficulty trying to locate the boy that some of us believe him to be dead and want to start heading back with what few prisoners we have after that woman's assault caused us to lose a few good men," said the scrawny cougar. Snare just glared at the little cougar and said, "Fine you take the group and head back I'm going to try and search for him a little while longer I don't like losing a human, and you know that very well." The younger cougar decided to take the men and run back to the others still at the ruined village. Snare knew if he let one escape there would be hell to pay. But as he was about halfway from giving up on his search he saw some rocks moving on the opposite side of the river and then he saw a glimmer of blonde hair within the moonlight and almost shouted for joy when he found his prey.
Kane heard footsteps and saw a giant blurred figure knowing full well he had been caught and then he though No I am going to die...no...no....no..... then he finally passed out from physical exhaustion.
The cougar picked up the boy and saw that he had a few cuts and bruises small and minor. He thought to himself while carrying the human, You, are so fucking lucky to survive the river and come out of it with just these minor wounds.
