Pru the Familiar, P2: Sharing

Prudence’s lizard pet, Missy, regrets causing herself and her owner to switch forms. But despite being an unwilling victim of transformation, Pru is equally resistant about being turned back. What’s a former reptile to do?

( Nudity, no sex, transformation human to lizard, mind sharing, telepathy )

The story so far: Prudence took her pet lizard, Missy, to a university's Sapient Biology Lab to find out why the creature was acting strangely. While they were on their own, Missy somehow caused them to switch forms, turning Pru into a lizard and herself into a human. Missy caused the transformation because she was upset and didn't want to stay at the lab, and was concerned at her owner's increasing messiness and laziness. She intended to force Pru to sort her life out in return for returning her to human form. Instead Pru embraced her time as a lizard, and ending up being mated, probed and treated as a pet. Missy, still as a human, left the lab and took her now reptilian owner home.

The lizard's life was one of constant struggle. Hunting on an empty stomach, sleeping to conserve energy while surrounded by threats, almost dying from cold or hunger or predators or fever.

One day she ate a big rabbit in a strange box, got trapped, and encountered humans for the first time. They were giant, incomprehensible, terrifyingly powerful and seemingly omniscient and omnipotent in their understanding and control of the world around them.

One of them took her in. This goddess of mercy became her owner, and she and her mate gave the lizard a wonderful, content, happy life of safety, comfort and plentiful food. And in return the lizard repaid her with…

<No, I don't want this! Turn me back Missy! Your mommy is scared!>

Missy woke up, shaking with horror and guilt, the memory of Prudence's terrified communication rattling in her memory. She was lying in a human bed, wearing a human nightie. She was in human form - her owner's form.

I stole this body from my owner, Missy thought. The body of a god. After everything she did for me.

Missy rose from the bed, crept through the dark bedroom and loomed over Pru. The former human and now lizard slept soundly on a bean bag under a softly glowing heat lamp, curled up with her tail over her nose.

I did you a terrible wrong, she thought. I was where you are and I deserve to be back there again. Heck, I deserve to be booted back out into the wild.

I'm ready to turn you back, owner. I don't want to be a lizard again, but it's… what should be done, and that's enough.

Pru woke up feeling oddly uncomfortable. The thing she was sleeping on seemed a bit small, and her head and legs were lolling over the sides. And she was getting that strange sensation that she sometimes felt at night.

The strange feeling… wait, that was Missy practising at changing me during the night, right? That's what she said yesterday. What's she up to?

Pru flicked open her eyes. A bizarre reptilian woman stood over her, wearing her nightie, which sagged over her small frame.

An intruder!

No, don't be daft.

“Eeeerrrnnngggmmmeeaaaahhhkkk", said Pru through her part snout, part lipped mouth.

The reptilian woman, Missy of course, looked at her startled.

“Uuureeeawwwaaahhhke?"

Okay, we're both part lizard and neither of us has proper voices at the moment, thought Pru loudly to the creature looming over her. What are you doing to me _this_ time?

Missy winced. Her transformation had gotten a _lot_ harder now Pru was awake and subconsciously resisting it.

<I'm giving back what I stole> thought Missy back to her. <I'm returning you to human form.>

No take backs!

Pru crawled away on half-changed limbs. Her partially formed breasts, tummy and stubby tail rubbed against the carpet as she made her escape.

Missy shambled after her. Like with her owner's partly transformed body, her own half-way limbs weren't quite good for either running or crawling.

<Please don't resist, owner! It's for the best!>

Pru wriggled under her bed. When Missy started to follow her, the part-human lunged out and grappled the part-lizard. They wrestled as they transformed, patches of human skin appearing and shifting to green scales, claws turning to fingers and back again.

Pru started to laugh with a weird squeal as she was rolled onto her back with Missy up above trying to lock her limbs down.

This is… fun! We're both all lizardy!

<You're… enjoying this?>

Pru responded by poking at one of Missy's shallow, scaly breasts through her nightie. Missy, blushing mentally, covered her boobs with an arm. She tried to stay serious.

<Why resist?> she asked. <Humans rule most of the world. I'm turning you back into a god!>

Don't wanna. Been human all my life. Now I want to be a lizard.

<Please be responsible, owner. You… have to be a human and work or we both lose our home. You don't want to go into the wild. Trust me on that.>

Pru lessened her struggles as she realised Missy was right. In a few hours she was to be back at the company, headset on, doing a crap job for mediocre money. But she'd be keeping a roof over their heads. Pru wondered what awful things the lizard had to deal with in the wild before she became the pet of a wage slave.

Missy continued to shift Pru towards human form. Pru sighed, stopped resisting and quickly grew in size while the former lizard returned to her original scaly form and crawled backwards out of her owner's nightie.

Missy's owner completed her shift to humanity. She looked down at a very sorrowful looking lizard, reached out and cradled the creature against her naked body. Missy licked her owner's shoulder affectionately with her long forked tongue.

<I'm so sorry I took you away from humanity, owner.>

“Hey, it was fun! But you're right. I hate my job, but I got to work it."

Missy expressed surprise through their shared thoughts, while her slit pupiled eyes widened.

<But you tell humans to do things! You direct the gods themselves!>

“I… well, I mean, it's only remote banking support."

<Exactly!>

Pru lifted Missy onto her hind legs, standing her up. The lizard blinked at her.

“Well, Missy. What would _you_ do if you had my job?"

<Well… I… I would->

Missy's tail flicked with mounting excitement.

<I was thinking about this last evening. A lot!>

Missy's head swayed and her forelegs motioned expressively as inside Pru's mind the reptile spontaneously came up with plans to turn around Pru's assigned customer accounts and make them mutually profitable.

She actually cares about my job, thought Pru quietly enough for the lizard not to pick it up while she telepathically rambled on. She cares as much as I don't.

Missy's owner watched the creature as she presented her suggestions. The reptile stepped away and started to pace around on her hind legs with excitement. She didn't seem to notice that she was returning to human form.

Pru looked down at herself. She was still human. And Missy was gradually turning into a clone of her.

As Missy started mentally talking about how to most effectively re-resource the failing Percivale account she realised that she was Pru's height. She stopped pacing and looked at herself. Then jumped and squealed with joy.

“We're both humans!"

Missy hugged Pru, pressing their identical, naked bodies together warmly.

“Yeah," replied Missy's owner, not quite so enthusiastically. Then as they separated she had a strange idea. She looked into the eyes of what looked like her own face, on her pet.

“Missy, how would you like to have a job, directing the gods?"

“I'm not sure I understand," replied her pet. Then realisation dawned.

“You mean your job? You want me to do your job?"

Pru nodded and grinned.

Missy looked at Pru with excitement and fear. “I… it's not my place to…"

“Go in and be me, Missy. At least for one day. What do you say?"

The following morning Missy was the first up, emerging carefully from the bed they now shared so as not to wake her owner. By the time Pru opened her eyes her pet had already showered and put on Pru's office dress. Pru got up and pulled on her casuals as she marvelled at the energy and buzz her clone was putting out getting ready.

Actually, it's a little unnerving, Pru thought. Missy looks just like me. She's about to do my job, with more dedication and enthusiasm than I'm ever going to have. It's a bit Invasion of the Body Snatchers, like I'm being…

Missy suddenly stopped getting ready and turned round, wide eyed.

“I won't replace you, owner, you mean everything to me!" she said quickly. Then, “Oh, I'm sorry, I shouldn't be reading your mind, but it just happens-“

Pru smiled. “Come here, Missy."

Her pet did so immediately. Pru looked at her appraisingly, then turned her around and stroked her head and neck. Her clone sighed softly and pushed backwards into her hands.

I'm okay with the mind reading, thought Pru to her pet. As she stroked Missy's shoulders and back through her clothes, they experienced each other's thoughts and fluttered through their shared memories.

It's okay because it's _our_ mind, not mine. Your memories as a little lizard in the wild. Mine growing up. We both have them. It's like we're one creature.

I…

I… don't even know who's thinking these thoughts now.

And it doesn't matter. They're being thought. That's what's important.

Pru and Missy mutually shivered and their minds parted enough for them to have their own thoughts again.

“That got weird!" said Pru. Missy nodded.

“I can pick up your fear, Missy," said Pru as she grabbed a comb and ran it through the pet's hair. “You're frightened you'll screw it up. But you got this. You'll do great. And I get to lounge around!"

Missy turned around, smiled and licked her owner's throat. She meant it affectionately, but it felt rather naughty coming from another human. As her pet blushed and started on an apology Pru chuckled and licked her back on the tip of her nose.

“The bus is coming," said Pru.

“8:05 if it's on time," replied Missy. She picked up her handbag and opened the door.

“Owner, you don't know how much it means to me to be earning my keep instead of laying around at home."

Pru smiled softly. “I do, I know what you're feeling, and I'm glad for you. Have a great day at work, pet."

Missy pressed her nose against her owner's forehead, then left through the door and closed it behind her.

As she left the apartment building and walked away towards the bus stop Pru felt Missy's presence in her mind dwindle away, until it vanished altogether.

It felt strange to no longer have her there probing, thinking, accessing, judging, responding, sharing…

Pru wandered around the apartment for a while. It seemed very empty now there was no lizard on her bean bag, and no extra person in her head.

Well…

Now to kill some brain cells. Time for day time TV!
