Hey guys, This story is one i wrote way back before Sofurry came back online. It has taken me quite a bit of time to get it finished, for multiple reasons. Till then, please remember that All Characters depicted are of adult age (Excluding the Obvious one).

I have decided to include this story in the writing group challenge.

This Week's Challenge: Write about a species you’ve never featured in a story before. (In this case, Riolu and Cheetah)

As always Please don't forget to Comment, Fave and Vote as it helps hugely for future chapters! How can I improve without feedback?

I also now have a Ko-fi if you feel like helping me along.

Warning, this is an 18+ story, anyone under that age should leave NOW. Contains Adult themes and language and is not suitable for any under that age.

Tanner sat in his bedroom, straining to listen for the sound he had heard only a few moments before. He wasn’t sure what had awoken him at that hour, half past stupid o’clock in the morning, but that sound had knocked him from his sleepy stupor. It had been light, barely audible, a soft pain filled whimpering. Something that was easily carried on the relatively still night air, and only audible because it was such a still night. The Cheetah sat on his bed, ears straining in the silence.

Whimpering was a sound Tanner was used to sadly. Having once worked as a receptionist for the outlaw gang: Team rocket. He had heard his own share of pitiable pokemon noises, when he’d witnessed some of the activities they had been up to, he turned informant. It was a quick step from there to a new life in the small provincial town he called home under the witness protection program.

That had been several years before thankfully, and he had been low enough on the organisation's ladder to avoid any prosecution. He hadn’t even known his job site was a front for the gang till he had seen the events that he had reported to the authorities. From what he heard, the League’s biggest trainers, the Elite Four, and the Champion themself, had turned their attention on the gang full time. Their downfall was not complete, but it was inevitable.

The sound came to his ears again, drawing him out of his light reminiscing. Soft, pain filled, keening that someone was trying to cover, or was a distance away. Tanners conscience got the better of him, unable to help his curiosity or the gut wrenching desire to help; which had gotten him into trouble already in the past. The cheetah rose to his paws, quickly slipping on a pair of tight underwear and shorts over his slim frame and short, plush yellow fur.

The moon was full, illuminating the night’s sky brightly enough he didn’t need to grab a torch. A light breeze started to pick up, ruffling his fur, the air cool and crisp. A cold front evidently on its way, heralding a storm that had been predicted to hit early in the morning. Tanner could see the clouds on the horizon, heavy and dark, blotting out the bright, twinkling stars. Thankfully they were still a while off, but they were foreboding of what was to come.

The pained sound was easier to hear the next time it arrived at the cheetah’s rounded feline ears, carried on the wisps of wind and originating from the nearby woods. He hesitated, knowing that the thick forest wasn’t exactly safe at the best of times. Teeming with wild and dangerous pokemon, some who were either extremely territorial or just aggressive to show how tough they were. The oncoming storm worked in his favor however, as most would retreat to their dens for safety. Only the most hardy of pokemon, water types or ghost types would be out.

Overhead a Rowlet and a HootHoot hooted as they watched Tanner walk slowly and carefully into the woods. In the distance, the screech of a Decidueye gave a loud call. The nocturnal lord of the local forests, he was well known to everyone in town, always looking out for the weaker pokemon and any townsfolk in his woods. From where such a strong pokemon had come, none of the locals knew, however it was assumed that he was a released pokemon from a retired trainer.

Tanner was comforted that he was there and seemingly aware that the feline was in the forest. If he was attacked by a wild pokemon, they would swoop in to help him, hopefully at least anyway. However it was concerning that the flying grass type wasn’t reacting to the sounds of distress. That meant that issue was beyond the owl’s abilities.

The cheetah’s ears twitched as they picked up more of the whimpers, pained and struggling. Closer this time, signalling that the feline was closing in on their source. He kept his pace consistent, making some noise so he hopefully wouldn't startle anyone, but at the same time not enough that he would alert any unsavoury individuals. It was a delicate balance to maintain, thankfully his feline graces and soft paws helped.

Rounding a tree, Tanner finally found the source of the whimpers of distress. Leaning against a tree only a few paces away, was a Riolu. They were hunched over, furry body covered in sweat, breathing hard, a handpaw holding their belly which was huge and distended, swollen out with new life. Judging from the moisture down the canine pokemons legs and puddle on the floor, clearly the Pokemon’s cub thought it was time to greet the world.

“Huh…” Tanner said aloud before he could stop himself “Not what I expected I will admit.”

The Riolu’s head snapped round to look at him with a snarl, face matted with tears and barely hiding the fear they were experiencing. It was clear to see they didn’t really have the energy or strength to get physically aggressive. It was an attempted show to scare tanner off, unfortunately for them, it wasn’t going to be that easy.

“G….Go a…away,” they growled out, voice masculine “L..Leave me a….alone! I...I’ll bite you! I… I know Crunch!” Tanner gave a soft chuckle and smirked, stepping closer.

“No, you won’t,” Tanner replied, looming over him. He placed a hand to the canine’s taught belly, the ‘mon’s fur soft against his pads “Right now, you can’t even run. However, I am willing to help you with this.”

The cheetah pressed his hand firmer against the small mons belly, eliciting a pained whimper and Tanner could feel the muscles contracting and the unborn pup kicking in protest. The Riolu dug his claws into the bark of the tree he was leaning against and exhaled heavily, tearing large chunks of cork free as he slowly started sinking down to the floor.

“That’s it, down we go, it’ll be easier for you when you aren’t standing.” Tanner encouraged easing the pressure his hand was imparting. He followed him down, getting into a kneeling position over him once they were sat upon the ground.

He regretted that his pokeballs had been left behind at home, knowing this would be easier for the pokemon on a comfortable bed or in a pokecentre. The orbs were placed on a display shelf, covered in a layer of dust. They had been a gift from the League which everyone got when they came of age. However the cheetah had never really planned to own a pokemon so never used them.

The Riolu gave a whimper and then a groan, curling around his belly a bit as he was hit with a strong contraction. Tanner hushed him and pushed him to lay flat. The cheetah didn’t know much about child birth, but knew enough to know that being curled up would only make the process harder.

“Breath, Breath, it’ll pass,” he cooed softly trying to settle the canine mon. “You’re doing good, just breath, try to relax, don’t attempt to force or fight it.”

“Why…” The Pokemon started only to be hushed.

“No talking, just focus on the job at hand here,” Tanner cut him off and fought to spread the pokemon’s legs “Open wide pup, or it’s going to take even longer.”

Fighting against the riolu’s natural strength was an impossible battle. As a fighting type pokemon, he was naturally stronger than the lithe Cheetah despite their size difference. However slowly, reluctantly, those legs opened exposing the canines puffy, spade shaped sex, wet with birthing fluids. It was already parting, ready for the oncoming pup to be born.

“There we go, good boy,” Tanner praised with a soft chuckle and gave his belly a soft rewarding scritch “Now we aren’t going anywhere till this pup is born, follow my instructions and you’ll have it in your arms in no time.”

They just nodded, panting with soft whines mixed in. He still eyed the cheetah with suspicion, but clearly wasn’t able to get away. A level of trust was starting to form, although it was tentative and fragile, the fecund canine pokemon was starting to trust the stranger.

A whine escaped the riolu’s throat as an extra strong contraction hit, and his claws dug into the dirt below him. A spurt of amniotic fluid escaped the mon’s nethers and tanner gave a light chuckle.

“This pup is eager,” he remarked “You should probably start pushing, I’m sure your body is telling you how. So, on the next contraction, push really hard for me.”

The Riolu gave a whimper that sounded more frightened than pained and Tanner had to shake off the feeling of sympathy he was flushed with. Deep inside he was regretful that the pokemon was having to endure the agony he was going through, but there wasn’t anything he could do about it. Even potions only did so much, and they didn’t stop pain. He steeled himself and gave that furry belly a few more gentle scratches.

“You’ll be fine, man up and get this done.” he chastised, getting an irritated growl in return which peeled into a pain filled whine as the pokemon was hit with a strong contraction. It turned into a moan of pain as he pushed, following the instructions he had been given.

After half an hour, Tanner could see the Pokemon was starting to get tired. On the bright side however, he could also see that he was only a few big pushes away, the unborn pup crowning. Thomas wished he had some water for the Riolu to consume, seeing that the canine was starting to slow down and get weaker, clearly he had already been in labor well before Tanner had found him.

“Almost there, a few more BIG pushes and you will be done,” Tanner urged, hand scratching at the Riolu’s knees “Then you can rest.”

The canine gave a groan, panting heavily as he lay there. He was so tired and clearly just wanted it all to be over. They gave a weak nod, taking some deep pants before pushing with the next contraction. His face scrunched up with the effort, a loud pained moan escaping his throat before it turned into a pain filled howl that ended with a relieved groan as the pup finally slid free.

Tanner caught it and checked it over. A male Riolu pup, standard colours, one hell of a pair of lungs as it had started crying almost immediately. When he looked up to the other Riolu, they were out cold. Still panting but eyes closed and head lopped to one side. The cheetah chuckled softly and shook his head a little.

He used his claw to cut the umbilical cord, and a few moments later the afterbirth was passed. He gently laid the newborn on its parents deflated belly and gently lifted them both, holding them to his chest. Turning to walk home out of the woods, he checked his location and sniffed the air a little.

The smell of rain was starting to fill the air, the inclement weather beginning to set in. He could feel eyes watching him, and somehow knew it was the Decidueye above them. The lord of the forest clearly had taken an interest in what was going on, probably drawn by the Riolu’s pain-filled howl.

Tanner was slightly confused as to why the owl wasn’t stopping him from taking the Riolu and the newborn from the forest. He assumed because the pair would have better chances at survival if they were with the feline. He wasn’t going to complain, if anything he would leave out an offering as thanks for the protection and watchful eye.

The walk home didn’t feel anywhere as long as the trek out. The cheetah wasn’t even hurrying but arrived swiftly regardless. Before he had been searching blindly for something he hadn’t known the source of, returning, he knew exactly where he was going. He nudged the door closed behind him with a soft kick before he navigated towards the bedroom.

His home was cosy, and spacious at the same time. A large living room and kitchen with three bedrooms and two bathrooms; he had to have his ensuite. Despite having spare rooms, he navigated to his own bedroom and gently laid the still unconscious Riolu, and his newborn, upon the spacious bed.

He picked up the newborn carefully, not wanting to wake its parent, then made his way into the bathroom. He filled the sink with warm water and used a handcloth to gently wipe the pup clean. It fussed, and whimpered as he did. Squirming but not crying out as he was cleaned carefully, then once Tanner was satisfied, was swaddled in a thick soft towel, promptly falling asleep again once it was clean.

The cheetah found himself perplexed where to house the pup to sleep. The cheetah didn’t want to put them on the bed and risk problems in the night. He hunted for a few minutes before finding a large tub. He put a soft blanket in it to make a bed base, then laid the swaddled Riolu puppy in it to continue sleeping.

Once he was satisfied, he turned his attention to the larger Riolu on his bed. He grabbed a bucket, filled it with warm soapy water, and proceeded to give them a sponge bath much like he had with the newborn. As he did his mind wandered with random thoughts, mostly questions, which floated through his mind.

Should he use one of his pokeballs to claim the Riolu? or would it be best to let the canine go free? Should he wait for them to wake up and give them the choice? Where was the other parent? Why was a pregnant riolu alone? Why was he even in the woods? Riolu didn’t even live near this part of the region, where had he come from?. The questions rotated in his mind until the Riolu gave a whimper and squirmed. For some reason, that made up the Cheetah’s mind for him.

He wandered out to his lounge room and looked at his pokeball collection on the display cabinet. Just because he didn’t own a pokemon , didn’t mean he didn’t collect the paraphernalia like everyone else. He had one of each pokeball sitting on his shelf, the premier ball had been a particular pain to acquire, but he had managed to make a deal for it. From discussions with trainers and their pokemon, he had a reasonable understanding of what each ball was like for those encapsulated within it.

He settled on the Luxury ball, renowned for being the most comfortable for the mon and had the best looks. Like the premier ball, it hadn’t come with a small price tag, it being one of the more expensive ones in his local pokemart. However that would be a small sacrifice in exchange for ensuring the Riolu knew he was well looked after. He returned to the bedroom after picking up the gold, red and black ball, eyes quickly snapping to look at the sleeping Riolu as he reentered the room.

“Don’t be too mad.” he muttered softly before dropping the ball on the sleeping ‘mon. They didn’t wake as they were illuminated by the characteristic red glow of a pokeball capture. The cheetah was a little surprised that they didn’t wake, but Tanner knew it certainly would make the capture process easier. The black ball shook a few times, the indicator on the front blinking green to signal the capture had been successful. The yellow furred feline exhaled a breath he hadn’t realised he was holding and smiled as he picked up the ball.

His brain told him the ball felt heavier in his hand, even though he knew it didn’t. His phone pinged, a data readout of the riolu’s biometrics sent from the pokeball. He pulled it out and opened the pokedex ap.

Species: Riolu.

Gender: Intersex Male.

Level: 30.

Age: 20.

Personality: Careful.

Status: Asleep.

The rest was inconsequential to Tanner. He wasn’t bothered what stats the Riolu had other than those basics, nor the move set he possessed. The cheetah didn’t have plans to go into battles or competitions with his new Pokemon. They would be a house pokemon, sitting around in comfort doing as much or as little as they wanted. The age and level didn’t surprise him either, Riolu evolved under different criteria to other pokemon who evolved as they aged.

“Never had that close connection huh?” he mumbled softly “I’ve heard that usually only happens to canine Pokemon when they are separated from their pack… Guess we will need to work on that, can’t stay as a Riolu forever.”

He pointed the ball at the bed and pressed the button on the front. The room lit up again with the distinct red glow as his new charge appeared on the bed again, still laying on his side, snoozing. Taner shrank the ball down and placed it on the night stand. He would only use the ball if needed, a security measure in case the canine got rowdy or someone tried to kidnap him.

Riolu were still highly prized as a vanity pokemon, so making sure he was protected would be important. He figured he would get a collar for the pup, with a sooth bell, or maybe a bandana. Something to show he was owned and well cared for.

“You are going to be a handful, aren’t you? We will need to decide on a name for you too,” he mused with a soft chuckle as there was a rumble of thunder outside, rain starting to fall thick and heavy. “Time for bed though… I have been up for far too long.”

He stripped down to his underwear and got his new pup under the sheets carefully before slipping in himself. It was odd sharing his bed, but after a bit of adjusting, he was eventually spooning the pup, a hand gently rubbing over their empty belly. It caused them to give a whimper of discomfort, the area clearly very sensitive, but Tanner hushed him softly.

“Being a handful will be tomorrow's issue… first day in a new life for us both.” he whispered to them soothingly as he closed his eyes to join his new Pokemon in slumber.
