#1 of A Helpful Paw

The silver wolf sat silently in the tree, leaning against the rough bark as the cool early winter breeze whipped against him. His bare footpaws hung off of the branch and swayed slightly as he relaxed. It had been a busy, stressful week and he was just happy to relax in his favourite spot in the local park.

From his perch, he could watch the whole park and all the furrs walking around. Each time he saw a couple holding paws, cuddled up close or kissing, his heart wrenched. He was so lonely in such a full, busy world. An immortal trapped in a world that never stopped. Every year the world changed, and he was becoming more and more left behind. It didn't help that he was single, but it was hard to find a woman to be his when he would outlive their great-great-great-grandchildren.

As the wind gently rustled his blue battle kimono, the silver wolf heard something. It was faint, and he couldn't make out any of the words, but he understood what was happening; a fight between lovers. It was something that always caught his attention; it never made sense to him why a couple would fight, or why abuse would happen. As he listened to the faint argument, his attention was caught by the sound of a woman crying.

The silver wolf scowled, quickly getting to his feet and shaking his head. "Mortals. If only they appreciated what they have."

Taking a few steps forward, the silver wolf leapt from the branch, his white, angelic wings unfurling and keeping him aloft as he silently flew through the dusky sky.

"How can you say such things?" the female feline glared up at her boyfriend, tears streaming down her face.

"Cuz they're true, duh." her boyfriend cruelly smirked at her. "I mean, hell ... I don't even know why I'm with such an ugly, stupid bitch. Well, other than you put out unlike many of the bitches I've dated."

The feline hissed at the male. "Is that all I'm good for? I'm just a sex toy for your pleasure?"

"Sure, I've never cared about your feelings or nothing, just squeezing your big breasts and plowing your tight pussy."

"I HATE you!" the feline snarled as she got up off the park bench and stormed off down the path.

"Oh, you'll be back," the male chuckled, shrugging his shoulders and left the park. "Stupid bitches always come back."

The wolf silently landed on top of a lamppost, watching as a female feline stormed down the path below, tears streaming down her face, chest heaving as she sobbed. This was probably the woman he had heard earlier; it seemed the fight with her boyfriend had gone south since he first heard it.

"Damn it, I can't believe I let him treat me that way. I mean ..." the feline sighted and stopped under the light of the overhead lamppost. "I love him an all, but ... I really shouldn't put up with that."

"No, no self-respecting woman would allow herself to be treated like that."

The feline gasped, jumping as the deep male voice met her ears. Glancing around in shock, the feline finally noticed the handsome silver wolf standing atop the lamppost. "Hey, that was supposed to be personal only."

"Sorry, but when you talk aloud about stuff like that, you have to expect helpful, concerned furrs to try and help you." He smiled gently at her, before jumping from the lamppost, twisting a little in mid-air and landing gently.

"W-Well, if I had of wanted your opinion I would have asked."

The wolf chuckled softly. "Would you really have? You've been crying, and I'm guessing your boyfriend has been abusing you ... verbally, I'd assume, since I see no bruises or marks on you."

The feline just glared at him. She was trying to hate him, this total stranger who could read her so well ... but something about him, maybe within those sparkling golden eyes, was preventing her.

"I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't be intruding upon another's business, but I can't stand to see a beautiful woman cry or let herself be abused. Honestly, I don't care whether you love him or not, you should either stand up against his abuse or drop him."

The feline couldn't help but just stare at him, slightly slack-jawed. Here this stranger was, talking to her as though they were close and telling her everything that little voice in her head was saying.

"W-Who are you?" the feline managed to stammer out.

"You may call me Silv, Silv Valens, last of the great Valens clan." The wolf bowed low as he introduced himself, with a chivalrous flourish the feline had never seen.

"Oh ... uh, you can call me Liz." The feline blushed softly, she couldn't help herself in front of this handsome wolf.

***

"Damn, maybe she's not coming." The male feline stood outside the park, before sighing. "I'd better go get my stupid bitch back."

***

"I didn't mean to intrude in your business Liz, but I'm the kind of furr who can't let such things slide."

Liz looked up at the handsome wolf as they sat together on the bench. She wasn't really sure why she was still sitting with this relative stranger, but something about him made her feel ... safe and cared for. "It's okay Silv ... most guys I know wouldn't have thought of anything but themselves. Or, they would have helped me, hoping to get something in return."

The wolf grinned softly. "Well, the only thing I want in return is you to be happy."

Liz blushed softly, looking away from him. She didn't understand it; how could someone be so nice, especially ...

"Don't think about yourself that way Liz. You're a wonderful girl, and you need to think of yourself in that way."

"How did you ..."

"I could just tell. I've gotten used to little tells furrs have. It comes from experience; I've helped a lot of furrs."

Liz smiled softly, resting her head on his shoulder. Somehow, she felt safe with him, as though nothing could ever harm her. It was like a little piece of paradise, just her and him, sitting quietly together in the park.

"Silv, I -"

"Hey! What the hell do you think you're doing with my bitch?"
