It was the perfect night for hunting, the last of the light from the setting sun had vanished below the horizon. A thin layer of clouds hung high above the treetops, dimly reflecting the light from the thousand stars filling the sky and the thin crescent of the moon that was hanging high above. It was the perfect skyscape to hide a night fury from any prey that might have been aware they were being hunted.
The dragon known as Toothless soared through the sky, wings spread wide and legs tucked up against his sleek body, tail fanned out to carefully control his descent. The bright red flap of his replacement tail fin that his pet had created did somewhat ruin his stealth, but not to the extent that it kept him from finding a meal.
His stomach grumbled at the very thought of food. He had spent the day flying and training his pet, and now was out on his own. It wasn't as easy as it used to be, with the fixed fabric tail being stiff and limited how fast he could fly, but it was nice to be able to fly on his own again.
Narrowing his green eyes, he scanned the forest as it passed under him, searching for any sign of movement in the dim light. There were any number of small creatures moving in the shadows of the trees, though were not filling. As he searched, a small flash of strange light passed under him. Except that it wasn't a light, except that it was, but it also wasn't something that should have been in the forest.
Banking in the air, Toothless turned around, allowing his height to bleed off until he was skimming just above the tops of the trees, close enough that the wind from his passage caused a rain of needles in his wake. Without a sound, he skimmed over where he saw the light again, catching another flash of something in the darkness.
Turning again, he flared back on his wings to descend into a clearing, landing almost silently into the underbrush. Lowering himself to the ground, he started slinking towards the location of the out of place light. He moved easily over the ground, his black scales blending into the darkness.
Still unsure as of what to expect, he moved closer to the source of the light, leaning out from behind a tree to investigate. What he saw was confusing, it looked like a human, but it smelled more like a raccoon, and looked like one as well. The figure was taller than his pet, but wasn't wearing any clothing, just the natural fur that covered her body, other than a pair of goggles perched on their head. From the profile, Toothless was sure she was a she, and her scent confirmed it. She was hunched over, doing something to an object held in her hands.
He was about to slink back behind the trees, when his stomach betrayed him, letting out a long gurgling grumble that seemed to echo through the woods. The strange woman snapped around to look at him, her purple eyes going wide as she let out a small gasp and a little squeal. It wasn't the sound of fear, but of excitement.
Slowly she crouched down, offering out one of her hands with a smile on her short muzzle. Though she was trying not to show any teeth. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you." she said in a reassuring tone.
Toothless had no idea what to make of this, while people being nice to dragons was something he was still getting used to, she was treating her more like she would some kind of pet. He was not a pet!
"I have food," she said, reaching back to grab a bag that had been sitting at her feet. She dug into it, pulling out a bar of something that smelled surprisingly sweet. She held it out, wiggling it in his direction.
His stomach let out another grumble, which was enough to convince him to at least see what the strange food actually was. He slowly made his way into the clearing, wings pulled tight to his side as he kept himself slow to the ground, tail sweeping behind him.
"My name is Eventide," she said, wiggling the bar again. Her words were strange, and he was sure that the words she was speaking didn't match what he actually heard.
He leaned forward, gently taking a small nip of the bar and pulling it into his mouth with his tongue. It tasted as sweet as it smelled, with fruits, grains and a few oils. It wasn't all that bad, but it also wasn't very filling.
Eventide smiled, and pushed the bar forward again. "Go ahead, you can have more," she said. At the same time, she was slowly reaching back, like she was trying to pick up something without him noticing.
Toothless cocked his head to the side, ears flicking as he considered what to do. The little bar wasn't even a snack, and wouldn't do anything to sate his hunger. He needed something much more substantial as a meal, and while he preferred fish, his diet wasn't limited to just that. Eventide was in his territory, and was just the right size to silence his belly.
He opened his muzzle as wide as it would go, and in an instant moved forward, snapping his jaw around the food bar, her hand and most of her arm. His teeth were retracted, but the gums were still strong, and held her in place as she let out a gasp and tried to pull her arm free.
"Hey, I'm not food! Let me go!" she said, tugging on her arm, then pushing her other hand against his muzzle, trying to force him to give her up. Not that he was going to do that, she was food, and she tasted quite good as well. Her fur wasn't dirty like other animals, but very clean and tasted the way flowers smelled.
She pushed her free hand against his face, which was a mistake. He opened his mouth for just a moment, long enough for her to shove her other arm inside before closing his lips around both of her arms. She let out a yelp and pushed and pulled, trying to get free, but he just swallowed. Her arms started to slide down his gullet, trapped in place by the powerful muscle of his throat.
It pulled Eventide down until they were nose to nose. She was tugging and gasping, trying to beg, but he just tuned it out. Instead, he opened his jaw wide, tongue playing out to lap against her chin, giving her a view right down his throat. She tried one last time to pull herself free, but instead he swallowed again, pulling her upper arms down his throat and forcing her head into his mouth.
Another gulp pulled her in even deeper, and with a twist of his head he lifted her off of her feet. Rearing up, he threw his head back and lifted her high above his head. Her legs were kicking as her tail trashed, trying desperately to get free. Toothless just swallowed again, gravity pulling her down even faster, his throat bulging with the shape of the raccoon woman. One more gulp and only her legs and tail were free, his tongue rubbing against the fur on her belly as her arms started to push into his stomach.
A few more quick gulps pulled her the rest of the way down, until his lips closed around her toes, the very tip of her tail pulling through his lips to vanish down his throat.
With his meal finished, the dragon simply fell backwards, landing on his back with a heavy thud. His gut rose up over his body, the shape of Eventide curling up into a ball inside of his now quiet stomach. Letting out a huge belch, he laid his head back and closed his eyes. It would take time to digest such a large meal, and he would probably have to work off the extra weight. Even so, he was still quite pleased with his meal.
Letting out a pleased sigh, he drifted off to sleep as his stomach worked at his meal, and by the time he woke in the morning he was left with a heavy gut that jiggled as he moved. A short time later he coughed up a gray wad of hair, with a pair of scratched up goggles mixed in with them. He left in the clearing, kicking some of the leaf litter over the mass before taking off back to the village, feeling quite full.
