"What is thought before is regisiters as memory? Is it a shape, or a shadow, or only unarticulated greyness that can't be held? Is it like an unrequited love, or a lover who is spirit only, who has no body?"

~Gretal Ehrlich, A Match to the Heart

The void around her remained formless, a mass of swirling grey matter that exsisted and yet at the same time didnt. Time didn't matter in her void, neither did such physical things like hunger, or pain. She was safe there in her abyss, nothing could touch her there.

She sat there quietly, studied the void at she tried to envision what she wanted it to look like. Slowly, a medow began to form, vast and seemingly unending. The sky above became a vast onyx expanse dotted with diamond-like stars. The colors were so viabrant, almost like they had been painte with oil paints; perfect, sharp and unreal colors that are never found in life.

Sighing happily, she tried to remember just who she was and why she was there.

"Is she ever going to wake up doctor?" The young blonde nurse asked the dour looking doctor.

The badger's soulful eyes rested on his comatose patient, a slight touch of sorrow flitting in them. The girl looked so innocent in her sleep. A young kit, not yet knowledgeable about the world.

He sighed sadly, shrugging. "I honestly don't know. Her body is perfectly fine, but for some reason she just won't wake up."

"The family wants to call in a Priestess of Morpheus to try some ritual." The nurse informed him thoughtfully.

He nodded in reply. "I know. She'll be here tonight. I don't normally agree to such things, but I have a feeling it might work. I want you to see that she's not disturbed until the ritual is over. Maybe the gods'll show their favor tonight."

Nurse Ann Takaeda wasn't a religious person and normally felt no true draw to any "holy" person, but Priestess Kyanna seemed to cary a sense of power. Takaeda wasn't quite sure if the power she sensed was holy, or something else.

Priestess Kyanna was a petite silver-white fox who seemed to be neither male nor female, but both. She possed a pair of silver-violet eyes that seemed to bore right into a persons soul and learn everything about them. She had noticed that several of the more religious furs and humans and steered clear of the priestess with a sense of silent worship. One even crossed themself, eyes wide with a mixture of fear and awe.

"I'm here to see a Caleena Strega." The nurse could have listened to that voice for hours. The sound of it was pure, almost musical and somewhat dreamlike.

Pushing away the odd thought, Takaeda simply nodded her head and motioned for the priestess to follow. Stopping in front of the door, she shuffled through her pappers to avoid having to look the priestess in the eyes. "This is her room. The doctor said you were to be undisturbed for the duration of the ritual. Simply walk out and check back in with the nurses station when you done."

There was a silence and Takaeda looked up to find the Priestess' gaze resting on the sleeping form in the hospital bed. She looked exotic, something not of this world despite the fact that she was dressed just like a person off the streets. "Her last name is Strega, meaning Witch in one of the old tongues. I think it fits her better then anyone could ever know."

A slight glow seemed to surround the Priestess, making her seem even more other worldly and causing the hair on the back of Takaeda's neck to stand on end. "What are you?"

The priestess simply smiled, her gaze never leaving the girls slumbering form. " A silver demon in the guise of an angel, formed in the bosom of the night and the seeds of dreams." That liquid silver-violet gaze fell on her, anchoring Takaeda to the very place where she stood. "Go back to work, Ann. Your no longer needed here."

Takaeda simply looked at the odd fox who slipped into room 103, assuming that it was one of the various oderlies on nightly rounds. She couldn't remember what she was supposed to be doing at that moment but it surely wasn't standing there and daydreaming.

Laughing uneasily at herself, she went back to the nurses station. The rest of the night, no one entered room 103. It was almost as if the gods themselves had commanded it.

She had grown quickly bored with the vast medown and now found herself in a forest of her own making. The modern world had not intervened in this place and it remained untouched, compleatly in it's primal state.

Sitting atop a rocky bluff, she was surrounded by majestic trees and the living silence found only in the remotest forests. Her gaze contemplated the stars above. Would they always stare on coldly, soulessly as she yearned for something more? Were they the sorrowful tears of the Goddess as she wept for the raped and dying body of her child-goddess, Earth?

Dozens of fanciful thoughts danced through her mind and at times they seemed to be the very embodiment of her soul's life-force.They were really the only thing to entertain her. She missed the voices of other but she didn't miss them enough to go back.

Somewhere in her thoughts, she became aware that she was no longer alone. She opened her eyes to find her gaze upon a pair of black pawed feet. Her gaze followed those feet up to their delicate ankles and then to two well formed white furred legs. A white kilt-like garment covered from knee to waist. There was an expanse of well developed adomen, white furred as well, an equally as developed chest, albeit alittle on the delicate side with shoulders to match. A well formed body that had touches of feminity to it.

The face was breath taking, perfectly balanced of male and female. Framed by curly silver-white hair the same color as most of the rest of him and enhanced by a pair of stunning silver-violet eyes. The color of the eyes was something akin to quicksilver as seen under a purple tinted light. Black tipped his ears, gloved his hands to mid-forearm, tipped his twin tails and socked his feet to mid-calf. He was a fox, but it was almost like he chose to look like that.

She blinked, almost expecting him to vanish. When he didn't, she offered him a tentitive smile. "Hello there. Lovely night, isn't it?"

He smiled at her, nodding softly. "Aye, it is. The Goddess has out done herself this night."

A peaceful silence fell between them as they studied each other. She knew that she was physically his oppisite in most ways. They shared the same delicate build, but hers was definately female to his feminine touched male. Where his fur was white, hers was black, his black was her white. Where his eyes were violet tinted quicksilver, hers were crimson tinted onyx. Her curvy form was covered, but not hidden by a sheer silver toga-like dress.

"I know you don't I?" She asked suddenly. He simply smiled again and shook his head in reply. "What's your name? Do you have a name?"

The vulpine laughed softly at her question, something flashing in his eyes for a moment. Some emotion that she couldn't quite read. "Why do you ask?"

"I'm just curious." She answered truthfully.

A wry expression played across his face and then it was quickly gone. "I don't think I even remember my real name anymore. You can simply call me Kya, I guess."

A soft laugh left her. She hadn't laughed in a long time and the sound was strange to her. " That's a girls name, but it seems to fit you."

He simply nodded in reply to the comment. "And your name is?"

Any humor that had been left in her outward emotion was gone, replaced by a cold apathy. "I have no real name. I am simply called Lilith. It means-,"

" 'Of the night'" He finished for her, smiling sadly. "Lilith was the first vampire, supposedly, and the mother of all monsters.

Lilith laughed at that, slowling comming to a standing position. "She was simply misunderstood by the gods and her husband Adam." Sighing, she turned her back to him. " I don't want to go back Kya."

"Then you know why I'm here."

A wry smile crossed her lips. "I figured that's why you were here. Your not a part of her mind, I wouldn have know in an instant if you had been. You not normal, are you?"

"What is normal, Lilith? To me, what I am is normal but to you it wouldn't be." He paused for a moment, as if thinking about something. "Your not normal either. That's why you won't go back."

Those words struck a deep, unhealed wound and she spun around, eyes flashing crimson for a brief second. " I am normal. I'm not some sideshow flreak like you are."

Despite her outburst, Kya remained calm, his expression never changing from open and understanding concern. " I am no more a freak then you Lilith. We simply live in a differnt plane of understanding. The same rules don't apply to us, as they do others."

"But I don't want it. I hate being differnt. Here, all that doesn't matter."

"It doesn't." He stated quite simply. "But Caleena's parents miss their daughter. Caleena can't wake without you Lilith."

She let her eyes close as her head lowered and turned from him, a single tear sliding down her cheek. "I'm afriad to go back, Kya."

His reply came as a whisper in her ear." I know. I can help you in the only way I know how, if you let me."

She looked up at him, crimson tinted onyx to violet hinted quicksilver. "Show me the way, Kya."

The touch was gentle, a simple bursh of fingertips across her cheek, and the kiss was equally as tender, a simple brush of lips. I a dream, one is not supposed to feel for they are not physical, but Lilith could acutally feel those touches as if they were real. She could have almost sworn that maybe her dreamworld wasn't so much a dream after all.

The slight flick of Kya's tongue was rewarded with the parting of her lips. He kissed her like she was the only water in a vast desert, like he was trying to devour her soul through that intense kiss. Her scrap of a dress was gone with a thought, leaving her body bare, ripe for his taking.

Kya's hands ran up and down Lilith's body, lightly caressing each of her most sensitive spots, silently worshiping her body almost as if she were the very demi-goddess for which she'd been named. His fingers played along her clit, teasing but never bringing her anywhere near to the edge and that climax that she sought.

"Pleasure, pain...love, acceptance...It's all life, Lilith. You have to embrace it in order to live. Differences don't matter when you do so." His voice was a mere whisper in her ear, neither taking from nor adding to her pleasure as she felt him slip two fingers into her. " Caleena will need you as she comes into her power. She'll be a powerful healer and priestess someday, but not without you."

Those talented fingers found that one spot in her body that would send her of the edge and quickly. The thin, double edged blade of her pleasure cut through her body as she cried out her climax to the vast stary sky.

With the pleasure came the greyness that she had once loved and now hated. In that greyness, though, was the collective thought that was her and Coleena together. Lilith threw herself into it and became lost in the void that was unformed thought.

Whispered words of a voice neither male nor female chased her into the abyss. "Normal is what you make of it, love. It is our lover who is spirit only, without body, soul, nor mind. It simply is, everything we are..."

Caleena Strega woke to a pair of silver-violet eyes watching her silently from a face that seemed oddly familar and yet compleatly strange to her. Ther vixen to whom those eyes belonged to smiled softly at her, the expression invoking a sense of rememberance of a memory not quite her own.

"Hello Caleena. How are you feeling?" That voice was familar, like a dream that she could almost remember but couldn't quite see or hear in her minds vantage point.

She blinked a few times, timidly answering the unknown but familar fox." I...I'm quite alright, I suppose. Do I know you?"

A small smile graced the lips of the fox. " Possibly. I am a priestess of sorts, and it's said that most of the priestly type have a sense of familiarity to them."

"That's not how I know you..."

"I am a servent of my lusts, and of the night. " She stood, truning her back as she prepared to leave."Some have called me Kali Ma, to others I was Hecate, Hathor or simply the Dark Mother. My oldest name was Lilith, by a small monotheistic cult. A Goddess they tried to worship, but I am no goddess. I am enslaved to the gods, paying homage to them with my body."

She cast a sly glance to Caleena over her shoulder. "To you, I will always be known as the shadow you've named Kya. Sleep Caleena, your parents will be here with the dawn and you've yet to meet Lilith."

Oblivion stole Caleena's sight. The doctors would never remeber the nocternal visit of a vixen preistess named Kyanna. To Caleena, she was a male and simply a dream. A figure from the greyness of unformed thought. The avatar of a Dark God. A child born of the Night's bosom and the Seed of Morpheus, Lord of Dreams.
