Love in the Reich

A tale of two lovers

Chapter One: Betrayal

"Zis iz our only chance to strike a blow at za blazted Allies advancement." The tall white hair husky yipped, his brown eyes glinting in the soft glow of the grey skies above. His black/grey uniform clutching his grey and white fur quite nicely; a lone iron cross medal dangled from just above his left breast pocket. A single red armband wrapped around his upper arm, two thin ribbons of white going all around the edges. A single white circle sat in the direct center, filled with a blockier black swirl in a windmill pattern, known only as the swastika. His name was Gustav Von Hydenburg.

"But vhat about ouver orderz, Captain?" The words spoken by a young German Sheppard were questioning at first, but near the end became more of concern. His greenish, grey enlisted German soldier's uniform hugged his slender body, pointing out all of his lovely curves. Blue eyes graced his face, as short, dark blonde hair broke free from underneath his cap. This fellows name was Elric Lichtenstein.

"My orderz vere to make sure za damned US troops do not make it past our location!" The husky slammed his fist into the top of the table, crumpling the map that was spread flat across the top. The Sheppard, startled at first, slowly leaned over and rested his head upon the huskies shoulder, gradually bringing his arms around to the front of the grey furred canine and locking his hands against his chest. He gave a soft whimper and sighed into the huskies ear,

"But sir, maybe... maybe ve could defect. Vith za knowledge ve hold, ve vould be very helpful in bringing down zis god-awful Reich. God knows the fuehrer has done unspeakable acts in the name of his perfect utopia." The Sheppard spoke in truth; they served the armed forces of a mad man. Neither of them actually wanted to do this, but both of them had been forced to do so or face imprisonment.

"Vell ve have been talking about zis lately. I am tired of having to feel zis vay about peoplez I do not know, ve could defect. But... but how vould ve get avay, not to mention how ve vould get to the allies before ve vere caught." The husky spoke in truth as well. If either of them showed signs of caving in, the other soldiers would execute them on spot. They both knew the best way they could get away was when everyone was asleep in the dead of night.

"Ve could alvays take a hostage, you know... "Don't moves or the Nazi lover gets it." Ha-ha," The Sheppard softly snickered at his comment knowing he was the only manly one in the relationship. He smiled softly before quieting down as a small patrol passed the tent.

"No, ve vill leave tonight vhile everyvun is sleeping. You must go pack, its gonna be a long journey if ve vant to leave these... monsters and become civilized again." The husky said before spinning around and giving the Sheppard a soft peck on his muzzle. Seconds turned into minutes before they realized they were taking to long with their kiss. No matter how much love there was between them, they could not go public until they reached an ally encampment. The two of them quickly pulled away from each other and went off to their separate tents to pack in private.

Later that day...

The German troops under Gustav's command partied the night away, drinking, being merry; one night of pure joy was sure to bring around good morality. Elric was busy in his tent, finishing packing away the gear he would need. Knowing that the both of them would have to travel lightly meant only the bare necessities. Suddenly, without any lick of warning one of the drunken soldier's stumbled into Elric's tent, confused at first the man began to question the actions of the lone Sheppard packing things into a small rucksack. Elric was completely startled; a look of worry quickly overcame his face. To the clear headed, it would have been a dead give away that something was amiss.

Elric began to stutter in his speech not knowing what to say, until finally as if in a joking way, the drunken soldier began to chuckle.

"V-vhat do ve have here? A man not partying his ass off. Come on, join the festivities!" The Rottweiler shouted out before turning around and tripping over his own feet, landing square flat on the ground. Seconds later the black uniform dressed Gustav stood above the drunken fool, looking down at him. The Rottweiler practically pissed his pants as he thought he was going to be lectured on why a German soldier was not to fall on the ground while in uniform. Instead, the officer bent down and lifted the fool up from off the ground, dusted him off and sent him on his way.

Seeing that it was a completely close call to being caught, Elric gave off a sigh of relief. Upon reopening his eyes, Gustav was standing before him, dressed in his best, cleanest uniform; medals dangled from just above his left breast pocket. It nearly gave him a heart attack, but instead startled him half to death. That was twice within the period of ten minutes that he was frightened of being caught. This time it was only Gustav, but the next time it could be a patrol doing roll call. Elric quickly cut himself some slack and calmed down, sitting back on his cot leaning his head against the back of the tent.

"Elric... I-I could not keep avay from you. I long for your lips!" The uniform dressed Gustav slowly climbed atop Elric, panting like a bitch in heat. He nuzzled his muzzle against Elric's chest fur tuft, quickly undoing the buttons to Elric's uniforms top and softly licked at the young Sheppard's chest beneath it. Elric just laid there, taking it all in; the love, the affection, and the lust for one-another. It was then that Elric held back and pushed the husky away; hearing the sudden whine come from his muzzle, he knew he would be regretting this later.

"Sir... Not here, ve must leave vithin an hour. Vunce ve get avay from these creature vill I put out." Elric said sternly. He knew he had made the right choice, because just then a small patrol passed behind the tent. He redid the buttons on his tops and rose from his seat.

"Fine... Vell I am ready to leave at a moments notice. I'll be bringing along my luger, you know just incase." Gustav quickly gave glance at the standard issue German officer's pistol that sat upon his hip. The barrel sat in the holder, snuggly. The Sheppard giggled like schoolgirl, he knew that Gustav had only fired that thing once... and that was at a bird that was annoying him.

"I'm already. Ve just need to vait until everyvun falls asleep. Then we may make ouver break for civilization." Elric whispered softly into the huskies ear. Gustav sat up and fixed his attire, making sure that it was straightened out and wrinkle-free. He stood onto his two feet and walked out the front of the tent, but not before leaving Elric with a single peck on the cheek.

One hour later...

Gustav quietly got up from his cot, his heart racing faster than ever before; the bag he had packed was sitting at the end of his cot, ready for travel. He quietly stood up and grabbed his bag, making sure he had every thing he would need; he softly crept to the entrance to his private quarters and left. He slowly made his way to Elric's tent, where a shivering young Sheppard stood awaiting his partner.

"Finally, vhere vere you? I have been vaiting here for over ten minutes." Elric whispered aloud. His tone was one of someone that had been stood up. Every exhale of air made a small puff of fog in front of their faces. It was sure to be this cold for quite a while.

"I had to make sure ve vere safe. Are you bringing you carbine?" Gustav asked quietly, hoping Elric said yes. He was wearing his winter jacket, though he did bring an extra one, knowing that an enlisted soldier did not get the same as an officer.

"Yes, I'm bringing my carbine, though I see no need to if ve are going to defect." Elric said in a sarcastic tone, knowing why he should bring his weapon. Gustav quickly brought the second jacket he had on his shoulder out to Elric's reach, plopping it directly into his hands.

"I knew it vas going to be pretty chilly tonight, so I brought you my second Officers coat... for you my love." Elric smiled as the husky said the one word that always made him melt... love. It was then that he knew they were doing the right thing. The only way they would be safe to openly express their love for each other would be if they were to make it to an ally camp.

Both of them nodded to each other and set about leaving the god-awful legions of Hitler's army, to become civil once more. They slowly made their way out of the encampment and out into the forest. Gustav led the way, for not only had he memorized in which direction the nearest US Battalion was... he also had the map. In his head he knew he had to do this to be able to fully love his partner Elric, for without him life would be meaningless. The two former Nazis slowly made their way to freedom and a new life... but for how long would they be safe?

To be continued...
