Life is strange, and honestly for my cousin Dante “Dani” Shadow and I, life stopped being normal the day her parents died. We were thirteen at the time, and her parents were killed by a drunk driver. Dani, my dad James, and I were working in the garage when the call came that Uncle Carlos, and Aunt Sumiko were in intensive care. We dropped everything and rushed to the hospital, barely missing the red lights, and upon arriving we were told to sit in the waiting room. We'd been in the waiting room for two hours when the two passed away. Dad and Dani were distraught, while I, I was just numb to the loss of yet another important pair of people in my life, especially after my own mother's death three years prior. My mother, Andromeda Shadow, had either died or disappeared, Dad never was clear which, when I was ten and just like Dani had been there for me, I was there for her and dad.

The funeral was a week after they were declared deceased, and they were laid to rest in the family cemetery. Dani's maternal grandparents Sakura and Sora Kageyumi offered to take her in, but dad and I assured them we'd take care of her. Our paternal grandparents Christopher, and Lisa Shadow, offered all the support they could, as did the Kageyumi family. For the first few weeks, dad and I accepted their help, and Dani had nightmares about being with her parents in the car. She had to hug me in her sleep to keep the nightmares away, and for the first week or two refused to even work on her gas powered trike, telling dad that it was a waste of time. Eventually me and dad convinced her that it wasn't, and that it was just bad luck her parents had been hit by a drunk driver. After we got that through her head, she, Dad, and I perfected her trike, and she even changed it from running on gas, to electric power.

The next few months flew by as we prepared to examine my cousin's home. About two months before we were fourteen we started exploring it.,and finding everything her parents had hidden, as well as some old documents from her mother's side of the family that talked about things most people would call fantasy, but we were wondering if they were true. One of those documents talked about a secret compartment in the house, and how a “cursed object” was hidden within. I was curious what the cursed object was, and Dani mentioned that her mother talked about a cursed “doll” that had been sealed in the house by our grandparents. Though she wasn't sure why Grandpa Chris, and Grandpa Sora would seal it in Uncle Carlos' house, other than that it supposedly required some kind of energy that Uncle Carlos had none of. This lack of the energy made Uncle Carlos the perfect guardian for the “cursed doll,” but in exchange Dani wasn't supposed to know about the doll, and Aunt Sumiko was supposed to avoid the room it was sealed within.

After finding the documents on the “curse doll,” Dani and I started looking for the secret compartments of the house, and found a fake wall in the basement that required a key-code to open. After finding the door, Dani and I spent the next month looking for the key-code, and finally on our birthday, we unlocked the door and entered it, where we found what looked like a succubus doll. Dani was curious why her family's notes called it cursed, and I could almost detect something sleeping inside the doll, but neither of us knew how to awaken it at the time.

Realizing that we had no idea what would allow us to waken the doll, Dani and I decided to leave it alone for the next few months, while she looked for a power source, and I started looking up myths and legends. Ironically I was only able to do this because around the time we were born the “internet” became wide spread, and humanity started using it to spread information all around the world. Dad regularly used it to contact his friends, colleagues, and anyone he knew, but Dani mainly used it for memes, mechanic's manuals, and to post funny videos. I on the other hand, used the internet for research, and to look up the more “hidden” side of the world.

Anyway, when we were fifteen Dani figured out how to power the “cursed doll” who awakened and told us her name. She introduced herself as Keijo Henka which Dani translated to “Shape Change.” Dani immediately made her part of the family, and I wasn't one to refuse, especially as after we'd turned fifteen the two of us had moved into her parents' house, with my dad's permission, due to the fact it was closer to our high school, Middleton High School. Of course, at the same time we released Keijo, Dani and I heard about a plan for some actor named Chris McClean to shoot a reality show in Canada, and the two of us agreed we should sign up.

However, since we had a year before the show would take off, Dani and I continued to go through her parents documents, and talk to Keijo, who Dani STILL wouldn't tell me how she powered at the time, and would instead just blush and look away whenever I asked. Of course while at Middleton High we made a few friends, namely Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable, who were head cheerleader, and mascot of Middleton High respectively, and ended up dragging us on adventures around the world. Well, they ended up dragging me on adventures, Dani was mainly still at home taking care of Keijo.

A year after we started high school, Dani and I were accepted to the Total Drama Reality show, and we made a promise that while we might be competing with everyone, we'd try to keep them from killing each other. This was even more important than most would realize because of things we'd found out about McClean and his desire for “Drama.”

The entirety of Total Drama was...difficult for Dani and I, but somehow we pulled through and made some good friends on the cast. Of course, after that dad sent the two of us to Beverly hills where we met a trio of girls who Dani instantly became friends with, and I ended up being a bag carrier for whenever the four of them went shopping. Ironically, it was while we were in Beverly Hills, that Dani and I were approached separately by and organization known as WHOOP. I was approached due to my theses on different things, my skills in hacking, and more, and Dani for her mechanical genius, as well as being friends with three of WHOOP's agents. Namely, her friends Alex, Sam, and Clover.

This led to our year in Beverly Hills being extremely...complicated. It didn't help I was trying to avoid romantic entanglements, and Dani kept pointing out how Clover had a crush on me because as she told Dani “Despite being a dork, you're cousin keeps in shape.” It was also at this point that I finally learned how Dani was powering Keijo, because the doll was now my responsibility while Dani worked with WHOOP to make gadgets for her friends. Turns out Dani was using tantric rituals, taught to her by Keijo after somehow unlocking her “magic circuits” to keep the doll powered after giving her a shot of energy that awakened her. Tantric rituals, for those unknowing of the occult, are sex rituals, and apparently sex magic is a common way to share “prana,” “mana,” or other types of magical energy. It's kind of safe to say that after that I wasn't able to meet Dani's eyes whenever she said she had to power Keijo after we left Beverly Hills.

Finally, when we get to the present, where Dani and I are eighteen, about to graduate and have been approached by Professor Oak and the Silph Co. Corporation of the Kanto Region. Professor Oak has offered to get us our Pokemon trainer licenses, and Dani has been offered a position at Silph Co. on some secret project she won't tell me about. All she said was “Don't worry about it, the project I'll be working on is counter intelligence.” I accepted her statement, and we agreed to help Oak, on the condition that Dani could travel with me, when not required at Silph's main branch. The company and professor Oak agreed, then the two of us went through our graduation and prepared to set off.

After that, Dani and I told dad our plans, then set off for Kanto. After talking to dad we boarded a plane for the Kanto region, and Dani and I started studying for our trainer exams. Of course, while we were doing that, I was also working on my thesis on Pokemon Hybrids, and something people called Type Energy, which I theorized could be a type of prana, though I didn't admit as much, and instead called it “Elemental Energy,” that all Pokemon had access to, and would prove they could use any move. Meanwhile Dani was chatting with her superiors at Silph on a private channel on her headset. As I worked on my thesis I couldn't help but look out the window of the plane and mutter “So, this is
