Outlawed
Hey guys (and gals?). This is a story I wrote quite a while back for a novel study project. It was for the novel Holes. You mightve heard about it. It was also a movie. We were supposed to make a story involving a character from the book. I made mine take place in the past. I found this when I was cleaning out one of my flash drives. It doesn't really have any yiffing in it, just kind of mentions it. That's mostly due to the fact that I couldn't write about vaginas even if my life depended on it. I spiced it up a little bit, but left most of it the original story. If you see grammar mistakes or punctuation or whatever, it's because I didn't really check it over :P AND, just to clarify, I added in some things tonight to make it more adult. I hope you enjoy it.
"What disgusting people!" said Jamie aloud. He was strolling through the desolate town of New Seropolis and around him, the people were spitting and urinating everywhere he turned. This place probably was nice at one point, but when Jamie arrived, the place was just as bad as its inhabitants. There were a few people who made a living doing something decent, but they were overshadowed by all the ruckus. When the people saw Jamie, they immediately turned and ran away. This was only natural for someone like him, an outlaw. There were posters everywhere, screaming an award for whoever could catch or kill him, but no one had even come close. They either died fighting him or chickened out on trying to catch him.
His appearance was probably the cause of this. He wore a large brimmed straw hat that covered his head and hid his face. The man also wore a long black coat that covered whatever the hat didn't. There was nothing visible under his clothing. Gloves were worn, as was a scarf to hide his face. He was six feet tall and looked like a monster if seen up close. The wanted posters were just of someone wearing a straw hat and a coat. It could have been anyone actually. There were only a few people who had ever seen his face. Those people would soon be found with the word "Fox" written upon their foreheads, and thus he was nicknamed "The Fox".
Jamie was wanted for theft, murder and evading the law. He committed those murders in do-or-die situations where people were trying to kill him, not for pleasure or for any kind of money. The man was a good person, he just had a lot of heavy baggage which was mistaken by most folks for trouble.
He used his trusty revolvers and sawed-off shotgun to defend himself and, when he really needed to, the sword strapped to his waist. All of his weapons were crafted of gold and silver and had J.R. carved into them, standing for Jamie Rikketts. Being skilled in the art of hand-to-hand combat was an asset to him because many people tried to catch him without killing him.
Jamie came upon a tavern and walked inside. The classic western doors swung open when he pushed through them. The bar's interior had left much to be desired. Big rotten looking boards passed for rafters and just barely held the roof up. A hard wooden floor creaked beneath Jamie with each step he took. All in all, it was not a very attractive looking bar.
The people inside looked up at the outlaw and most were terrified. Some quickly gathered their things and ran away while others hid in various places around the bar. Jamie just walked straight to the counter and ordered a drink. The bartender gave a frightened nod and quickly scurried away to get his order. Some thugs that were sitting at a nearby table were looking at the black-suited figure at the bar with disgust.
The leader of the group said to his posse "Boys, I think we need to teach that guy a lesson. Teach him he can't just be coming in here and scarin' away the good bartender's business." The thugs nodded and stood up. They slowly approached Jamie, attempting to figuring out the best way to attack him. One of them picked up a wooden chair and snuck up behind the outlaw. He raised it above his head and brought it down at a lightning fast speed. Jaime jumped out of his seat just as the chair came crashing down on the bar, smashing into little tiny pieces.
"Now why you would you do that?" asked Jamie. He picked up the thug who had attempted to bash him by the shirt. He lifted him above his head and threw him at a small cluster of the baddies who were staring in shock and awe. The man collided with them and sent them flying in all directions. The remaining men unsheathed knives and brandished swords. Jamie spun around to them as they charged, pulling out his sword and impaling the nearest thug. He pushed him off the blade with his boot and in one swift motion, sliced open another's stomach and neck. The remaining three thugs pulled back and grimaced in disgust. This gave Jamie a chance to strike. He lifted his sword into the air and brought it down on one of their shoulders. He pulled it out and sliced into the next guy's neck, beheading him. The sword flew at the last thug, but Jamie stopped it and twirled around, stabbing the man in the heart. Jamie pulled his sword out of the chest and turned to face the leader of the group.
Realizing he was alone, the man who had instigated the fight turned to run away, but Jamie was quick and pulled out his shotgun. He took aim quickly and squeezed the trigger. There was a loud bang followed by blood and brains flying all over the tavern. The small group of dazed thugs lying on the floor got up and saw all of the destruction. Their headless leader signalled to them that the fight was over, so they scurried out of the bar and rode their horses into the distance. The bartender peered over the counter and saw the rumble was over. He nearly screamed at the amount of blood that was splattered all over his tavern. He looked at the big man and placed his drink on the counter. Jamie wiped off his sword, put it back in its sheath, and sat down to drink.
Jamie turned over the beef he had cooking on his fire. He had a small camp out of town in the desert. Out there, he was safe from the authorities or whoever was looking for him. He was lucky enough to find a large empty cave that he could live in whenever he needed to. It was only out in his cave that Jamie could take off his heavy clothing and relax. His clothes were sitting on a chair he had sitting in the corner. The cave was deep enough that he could have a queen sized bed, a dresser, a mirror that could show your whole body, and a dining set. Jamie took the piece of meat off the fire and went to eat at his table. He was happy when he was in his comfy little adobe. He could be himself in here and no one could say anything. Once he was done with his meal, he discarded the dishes and went to look in the mirror
"Hey handsome" he said. He said it in jest of course. In this world, no one could think he was "handsome". He was a freak. Ever since birth, there was something wrong with him. He was never involved with the other kids and had no interest in what they were doing. While they would play with their marbles, he would be running around, pretending he was a skilled swordsman. The fact that he looked completely different was a factor in that as well. Everyone, including his family, had skin, ears on the sides of their heads. They didn't have their mouths protruding out of their faces either. Not him though.
Jamie looked at himself. The orange fur that covered his body looked very nice with the little white patches on his chest and face. He grabbed his bushy tail and stroked it. He had decided when he was very young that he looked most like a fox. He had ears on the top of his head which allowed him to hear what was going on around him very well. That's how he had been able to avoid getting killed in the bar. Like foxes, he had incredible agility and he could perform jumps that could put Olympic athletes to shame. These abilities were what had made escaping authorities so simple.
Looking over his body, he had to admire his physical features. If he wasn't a man with the features of an animal, he might look extremely attractive. The sound of shots firing outside his cave brought him back from loving himself. He quickly threw on his clothes and snuck a look outside of the cave.
"GET HER!" bellowed the Sheriff Jamie had grown to know very well. He and his group of "respectable thugs" were galloping after a female riding away on a beautiful white horse, her red hair flowing out behind her. Jamie was in awe at the beauty and grace of the woman riding the equine. For ever bump, she remained in the exact same position in the saddle. She shot the occasionally at the Sheriff and his boys whenever she felt the need to, shooting some of the men off their horses and wounding a few others.
Jamie saw the Sheriff catching up to her and he knew he had to intervene. Taking his pistol and aiming at the Sheriff, he squeezed the trigger and shot the Sheriff in the back. He fell off of his horse and the few men that were left pulled on the reins of their horses as to not trample the Sheriff. The woman saw her chance and escaped up to the area where Jamie was hiding. She saw Jamie and hopped off her horse, hoping for a hiding place. The fox-man took the horse and hid it in the cave. He grabbed the red-headed female and shoved her into the cave as well. He covered up his fire with sand and dirt then closed the entrance to his cave with a large boulder. Inside, the woman was checking the horse for wounds.
Jamie had never seen someone care about a horse so much. In his surprise, all he said was "So who are you?"
The woman didn't stop checking her horse, just simply replied "Kissin' Kate Barlow"
Everyone had heard of Kissin' Kate Barlow. She was a celebrity back then, practically a household name. This was no exception for Jamie. He worshiped her. Her integrity, her talent, it was all so staggering to him. They had been conversing for a few hours and Jamie felt something for her that he had never felt for anyone else before. He discovered that she had a sweet, caring, gentle side to her. She told him of her love being killed and her whole outlaw tale. He sat with his clothes on the whole time.
"Why do you wear those clothes?" questioned Kate. He was afraid to take them off and ruin whatever they had together.
"Because underneath them, I'm a freak that no one would ever want to see" he hastily replied.
"Oh come on Hun. You know I wouldn't judge" she said with sweet eyes. Jamie sighed and began to take off his scarf, leaving the hat on to cover his ears. His hands unbuttoned the coat, leaving him wearing a tight brown sleeveless shirt. Kate gasped at his arms, surprised at the orange fur. Jaime took off his gloves, revealing his fur-clad hands. For the finale, he took off his straw hat and Kate had a look of shock upon her face.
"You hate me now, don't you?" he asked with tears in his eyes. He was preparing for the worst, for her to act like everyone else in his life had.
"I... I actually think that it's really fascinating. How long have you been like this?" asked Kate with sincere interest in her voice.
"Since birth... It's actually the reason I became an outlaw. I had had it with my family. You think it wouldn't matter that I look like this since I'm their own flesh and blood, but no, they beat me and made me work from a very young age. One day I snapped and just left. I needed money so I robbed a bank. That's when it all started... And now here I am." He took a deep breath, his secret finally out. He felt content that it was his idol who knew.
Kate hugged him and felt his toned body under his fur. She inhaled his scent and smiled. She liked what she had in her arms and didn't want to let go.
The pair spent the next few days together in the cave just getting to know each other. They had unblocked the entrance and had some fresh air as well as a place for the horse to go. Jamie and Kate had become the best of friends, telling each other secrets and laughing together. Jamie had fallen in love with her and he had fallen fast. She had been so understanding, not caring that he had orange fur, or that he had pointy ears on his head. Actually, she seemed to like playing with them and when she did it made him smile.
Kate had very strong feelings for Jamie and it was a pleasure to be around him. He was kind and courteous, always making sure her needs were met. He even went so far as to sleep on the floor, as there was only one bed. She loved everything about him, from his muscles to his tail to his beautiful personality. She knew he felt the same because whenever he thought she wasn't looking, he would stare at her with a longing look.
A week went by and things were still the same. There had been a couple of times when one of them would almost bring it up, but they quickly changed the subject.
One day, Jamie was staring at Kate a little too long and she turned and caught him. "Why do you stare at me that way Jamie?" she asked.
He stuttered, embarrassed he got caught. "Well... Umm.. Er.. I... I love you" he winced and waited for the worst.
Kate walked over to him and planted a kiss right on his muzzle. He gasped and she said "I love you too. You know, it's been a long time since I've been with a man."
Jamie blushed. "I'm not really a man, Kate. Not on the outside, anyways."
Kate let her hand wander down to his waistband. "Are you a man where it counts?"
Kate and Jamie were still living in the same cave with each other after three weeks. They hadn't gone on any raids or robberies because they were just so happy spending time with each other. The emptiness that they had both been feeling for so long was finally gone and they had no reason to. Jamie no longer felt alone and Kate stopped hurting so much from the loss of Sam. They finally felt happy and content.
Their food supply was beginning to run low and Kate volunteered to go get some more because she was a lot less noticeable. After much disagreeing, Kate left to go pick up the food. This left Jamie with a feeling of loneliness and worry. He sat on the bed, curled up in a ball, waiting for his love to return.
Outside the cave, there was a group of bandits planning their raid. They had seen many things inside the cave that caught their attention. Sneaking into the cave, one of the bandits saw a huge fox lying on the big bed at the back of the cave. He quietly pointed this out to his comrades and they realized it was no normal fox. This fox had human features and there was no way any fox could have actual hands. They decided to not take any chances and began to set upon Jamie
Jamie felt a sharp pain in his ribs. He jolted up from his sleep to find six bandits inside his cave. One had just socked him in his side with a large fist and the others were advancing. His weapons were over with his clothes and he had no way of getting to them. He stood up on the bed and, with his ribs flaming up in pain, leaped over the heads of the men. He reached his sword and pulled it out of its sheath. The bandits were well equipped and had swords of their own. One by one, they attacked him.
Jamie was able to fling them away and kill them at the same time, not getting a scratch. As the last bandit slammed against the wall, Jamie almost collapsed from exhaustion. He checked the bodies to make sure they were all dead. He started with the body furthest away from him, bending down to check for a pulse.
A bandit who had been severly injured but not killed looked around the room. He saw the fox-man bent over his friend. He frantically looked around the room for something to defend himself with. He saw a gun holster and made his way over to it, dragging his useless legs behind him. He heard snapping behind him and he picked up the pace. He reached the gun and pulled it out. He took aim at Jamie's head and fired. There was a howl and Jamie fell to the ground in pain. The bandit sighed and fell into an eternal sleep.
Kate came back to the cave, cheerful and whistling. She saw the bodies of men and she dropped the food. Sprinting inside, she found bodies strewn across the cave floor. There was one that she noticed in particular. "Oh my god!" she cried out as she spotted her lover with a hole in his head gushing blood. "JAMIE! What happened?!?!" she asked sobbing.
"Bandits... came in... I... thought I got them all... one shot me..." he panted. "Kate... I want you to know that... I love you with all my heart..."
"No! You can't leave me!" she sobbed. "Not now!"
"Have... you ever noticed that... the sky is the colour of your eyes?" asked Jamie.
"What are you talking about?" she asked. His body shook violently under hers and she knew he was gone. She wailed and begged him to come back. She soiled his fur with her tears and smudged her makeup. She fell asleep curled up beside him, one last time.
