#2 of Tale of a Dragonborn

Raptor stepped off of the wagon and looked around the city.It was gloomier than any other city that he had been in. The streets were littered with garbage and the houses had crumbling brick and some even had blood stains. The windows of the houses were lucky to have a full window. Most of them were broken and just had wooden planks nailed over the holes.

Raptor began walking and started looking for a pub. He was feeling parched from the long wagon ride and needed something to drink. A good ale or twenty would do the trick. As he walked he couldn't help but think of the woman who smiled at him on the wagon. She looked like she knew him and wanted something from him or with him. And the fact that she had the look of a mercenary didn't put that thought to rest.

Raptor ended up at a pub called Fox in the Barrel. An odd name he thought as he entered the building. Loud music was being played by a band on a stage. Everyone was dancing around and having fun, but as soon as Rator entered the pub, it all stopped. Everyone stared at him as he stood there at the door. "I'm friggen thirsty." He said. The music began playing again and everyone started talking amungst themselves. It was as if Raptor sucked out all of the fun in the building.

Raptor sat at the bar. "Golden Apple Ale please."

The bar tender stared at Raptor while he washed a cup. "Nope. Not for a Half Dragon."

"What did you just call me?" Raptor glared at the bartender.

"No Golden Apple Ale for any Half Dragon." The bartender put away the cup and glared back at Raptor. "Only Mud Ale or Normal Ale."

Raptor chuckled. "It's all the same with you no fangs, huh?" Raptor stood up and showed off his sword. "Do things have to get ugly?"

"Sit down before I send word to Captain Withers." The bartender waved and another human showed up beside him. This other human also had the look of a mercenary. Leather armor, longsword, dark red hair and a muscular build. "Or I could just have Blade here show you how a sword is used."

Raptor sat back down knowing that he didn't really intend there be any trouble or fighting. "Fine, make it a Normal Ale."

"Ten silver." The bartender said.

"What?!" Raptor had memerized the value of each drink you could get. A Normal Ale only ran for about two bronze. One hundred bronze equals one silver, so ten silver was one thousand bronze. It was a %99.8 increase in the price. Math was one of Raptors strong traits. "That's a %99.8 increase in the price! There is no way I would pay for something like that!"

"Half Dragons have there own price in this city." The bartender pointed at the door. "If you don't like it, you can take your scalie ass out of here. Or I can get Blade to do it for you."

Raptor reached into his pocket and threw ten silver onto the table. "Fucking No Fangs...! Give me my damned ale." The bartender poured ale into a cup making it as much foam as he could possible make it. Raptor stared at the cup. "Fuck me sideways. You really want to piss me off. Don't you?" The bartender said nothing and went to serve another customer. "God damn it. Why is the world like this?" Raptor took a swig of his ale and got nothing but foam.

The door of the pub opened up and the woman from the wagon walked inside. She looked around and danced to the music while on her way to the bar. She sat in a stool right next to Raptor. Raptor looked over at her and she looked at him. She smiled and then said, "My name is Melissa."

Raptor smirked. "Amazing. A human with some decent manors towards a Dragonborn in this city. My name is Raptor."

Raptor? That's a nice name." Melissa ordered a Golden Apple Ale and got it for only two silvers.

"Do you know how much I payed for my drink?" Raptor asked Melissa. She looked at him and waited for the answer. "Ten silver. For a Normal Ale."

"That's rediculous! I can't believe how people treat Dragonborn these days."

"I know, right?" Raptor took another swig from his ale. This time he got some of the ale rather than all foam. "I'm sorry for what I said on the wagon to you."

"It's al right." Melissa said. "I know how tough it can be when you're a dragonborn. I have a few friends who are." Melissa took a big gulp from her drink. "I love the apple flavor they put in this drink."

Raptor finished his drink and stood up. "Well, I'm not paying for another drink in this over priced dump. I'm leaving."

Melissa drank the rest of her drink and stood up aswell. "Hold on. What are you doing? Where are you going? I'm new in town, so I have no idea what to do."

"Get a room at an inn first of all." Raptor said. "Im new here too." Raptor walked to the door and Melissa followed. "I was just going to walk around. See a few people."

Melissa put on a puzzled look. "You're going to go for a walk in the middle of the night and meet see people you don't even know?"

Raptor looked away. "You don't want to follow me. Trust me. Just go find an inn and get a room. Maybe we'll see each other tommorow."

Melissa nodded. "Fine. How about The Lucky Dro Inn. Tommorow. Early in the morning."

Raptor nodded back. "Fine. See you then." Raptor left the pub and back into the gloomy street. It was just barely lit, which was perfect for mugging unsuspecting people. Raptor walked away from the bar and found a street where there was minimal windows. Less of a chance that someone would see him commiting any crimes. A group of guards walked by and gave Raptor a dirty look. Every day he had to deal with that kind of thing from guards. It was sort of understandable since he was skulking around at night, but even in the day time when he was minding his own business he would get these looks.

Raptor stood at a corner, leaning against the wall, and waited for the right target to walk by. A couple of people walked by in a few hours. Another mercenary, a begger woman and a little girl. Mercenaries would put up too much of a fight, beggers have no money and a little girl out at this time just seemed odd. Raptor wouldn't put it past him that in a place like this, even a little girl wouldn't think twice about stabbing you. Expecially at this time of night. He waited and waited and then finally, a true target walked by. A man wearing red robes with a gold trim that looked like it fit him perfectly. That ind of clothing was only hand made for nobles. And nobles always carry a lot of money on them.

Raptor ran to the front side of the man and took out his sword. "Give anything of value that you have on you and you won't get hurt."

The man began shaking and then reached into his pockets. "Please. I don't have much." He took out a small money bag from his pocket and handed it to Raptor. Raptor looked inside and found what looked like to be about fifty gold pieces. One hundred bronze equals one silver and one hundred silver equals one gold. So fifty gold was five thousand silver. Raptor began thinking, math always got him excited. He had paid ten silver for a drink, which was way over priced, and got a profit equal to five thousand silver. So he actually made four thousand nine hundred and ninety silver profit. That would be able to let him get four hundred and ninety more drinks.

Raptor pointed at a ring on the man's finger. "What about that?"

The man looked at his hand and took off the ring. "It's got a sapphire in it. Take it, just don't hurt me!"

Raptor also noticed one last thing. Another money bag tied to the man's waist. "What about there?"

The man took the bag and handed it to Raptor. "Take it!" He then ran off screaming.

Raptor looked inside of the money bag. It was full of opium. Raptor laughed. "A noble having an opium addiction. That's great." Raptor closed the bag and put it in his pocket. He never has and never would do drugs, but he could fetch a nice price for it.

Raptor pocketed the opium bag and then began walking away. He figured that he should get some sleep and since he was meeting Melissa at The Lucky Dro, he would get a room there.
