Hungry Hungry Hyena
Ruggie has always been shameless when it comes to food. So when Yuu asks him to be their taste-tester for some recipes they want to try, he agrees wholeheartedly.
Though, pretty soon, it becomes clear that Yuu has some ulterior motives when it comes to cooking for him.
Ruggie had never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Sure, nothing was ever free, and he knew to be suspicious of others’ intentions, but he knew to take advantage of good deals.
Which is why he was now spending most weekend evenings at Ramshackle Dorm.
Yuu had approached him just after he had finished running an errand for Leona. They seemed really pleased to see him.
“Ruggie! Do you have a second?”
“I might… if you make it worth my while.” he teased. There was no real bite to it. Ruggie was fond of Yuu, though he found them a bit too naive. It was great for him, as he could usually mooch some food or help off of them. But the idea of someone else taking advantage of them set Ruggie’s teeth on edge. Yuu’s voice shook him out of his thoughts.
“I wanted to ask a favor. I’ve been learning how to cook recently, and I was hoping you’d be willing to taste test some of my dishes. You can keep the leftovers too, if you’d like!”
Ruggie’s ear twitched, as he considered Yuu’s request. “Sounds like a pretty good deal. But why’re you asking me? I woulda thought Grim would’ve been all over free food.”
Yuu smile took on a teasing air as they replied. “Because Grim eats anything. I wouldn’t get any good feedback from him. He’d just demand more.”
“Fair enough. I’m down to taste test. When’s a good time for me to come over?” Ruggie asked.
“Saturday and Sunday evening. It gives me time to cook and grab ingredients.”
“Alright, sounds like a plan!” Ruggie replied.
Which brought him to the current situation. He was walking up the path to Ramshackle Dorm. The outside of the dorm seemed a lot more cleaned up than it had been when Yuu first arrived. There was even the start of a little vegetable garden on the side of the dorm. As Ruggie got closer, the scent of food being cooked hit his nose, making his stomach rumble. Whatever Yuu was cooking smelled divine. Ruggie was glad he brought some tupperware with him. It definitely smelled like the kind of dish he’d want leftovers of. Actually, now that he was right on the porch, there were quite a few different smells coming from inside. All quite delectable. He knocked at the door, then entered. Yuu was expecting him, so it was probably fine to just walk right in. He didn’t see Yuu anywhere in the living room, so he headed over to the kitchen.
What awaited him there was the very picture of decadence.
Yuu was by the stove, putting the finishing touches on some stir-fry noodle. All along the counter near them were various other dishes and desserts. It looked more like a buffet, rather than a meal for one person. Yuu had just finished their stir-fry when the noticed Ruggie’s presence. They turned to him with a sheepish look on their face.
“...Went a bit overboard with the cooking. I wanted to make sure there would be at least one thing you liked.” They said.
“No kidding! I bet there’s enough here to feed a whole dorm!” He replied. “Let’s get started, yeah?”
Yuu led him to the kitchen table, pulling out his chair for him. ‘Trying to be all polite, how cute.’ He thought.
Yuu brought out the stir-fry they had made first. It was a bit of a simple dish, noodles and veggies stir-fried in oil. Hard to mess up. Ruggie figured it would be serviceable, and make good leftover to have for lunch during the week. But when he took his first bite, the taste was unlike anything he’d ever had before. The vegetables were crisp, the noodles were the perfect texture, and there was just the right amount of spice and moisture to whet the appetite. Before he knew it, he had completely cleaned his plate. Yuu seemed completely delighted that he enjoyed it so much. Their eyes were alight with glee, as they sat across from him, waiting for his feedback. It almost reminded Ruggie of a pup waiting to be praised. They really were too cute for their own good.
“It was delicious. Y’sure you need practice cooking?” He said.
“That was the one I was most confident in. I wanted to start off on a high note. I'll go get the next one.” They replied.
And so the meal continued. Yuu bringing out more dishes and Ruggie taste-testing them. Most were delicious, while some only needed a few adjustments and improvements. By the time Yuu brought out the third dessert, Ruggie had fewer leftovers than he expected. Normally, he would have eaten a bit of each dish and saved the rest to eat later. It saved him from having to buy or prepare meals for a while. But the sheer happiness and pride that radiated off of Yuu when he cleaned his plate pushed him to eat more than he usually did. To have their smile, the brightness of which rivaled the sun, directed at him, it was almost too much. So he ate the dishes they prepared, gave them praise and feedback, and tried not to blush at that damned smile. When it was finally time to leave Ramshackle Dorm, Ruggie was well and truly stuffed. He had several tupperwares balanced in his arms as Yuu saw him off.
“Same time next week, yeah?” Yuu asked him cheerfully.
Ruggie couldn’t bring himself to refuse. Free food was free food, right? And he’d never say it out loud, but he wouldn’t mind an excuse to spend time with Yuu regularly.
“Sure. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” He said with a grin that he hoped read as more cheeky than sincere.
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ruggie hated to admit it, but he was slowing down. Distances he could usually run with ease left him huffing and puffing. It wasn’t too much of a problem, yet. He could still do the jobs he took, even if he was a bit slower. He didn’t need to work as much this week either. The leftovers he got from Yuu lasted him for every meal this week. They were just as good reheated as they were fresh, too. Maybe that was the problem. Ruggie noticed his clothes fitting a bit differently recently. Everything felt a tad bit tighter. His thighs and arms were thicker, his stomach softer and rounder, and his behind was slightly more cushioned. It wasn’t drastic, but it was noticeable, especially because he had to loosen his belt and pull down his shirt, as his tummy hung over the edge of his waistband now. Jack had given him a few concerned glances, and Leona teased him about becoming the Prefect’s pampered house pet, but no one had said anything about it directly. Ruggie figured he could just work the extra weight off. It shouldn’t be too hard with how busy he normally was. But he already had plans tonight, once again heading to Ramshackle Dorm to be Yuu’s taste-tester. Next week for sure, he’d start working off the weight.
As he entered Ramshackle Dorm, Ruggie was once again hit with a veritable feast of mouthwatering scents. Yuu greeted him from the kitchen, cheerily.
“Hey Ruggie! I hope you’re hungry, because the new recipes I found came out great!” they said.
“I’m always hungry, Yuu.” he teased. Though, his words sounded a lot more confident than he felt. Somehow, Yuu had managed to make even more food than they had last time. It all looked and smelled delicious, of course. But it was certainly more food than any one person could eat. The leftovers probably wouldn’t even fit in the fridge, if he was even able to pack them all away in his tupperware.
As Yuu set out some dishes on the table in front of him, Ruggie glanced at their expression. It was cheerful, innocent, and seemingly completely oblivious to the ridiculous amount of food this was.
Yuu sat down across from him, at the other side of the table. They were watching him eagerly.
“Don’t hold back! Your feedback before was really helpful. Let me know exactly what you think!” They said.
“Sure thing.” he replied and turned his attention to the first dish of the night. It was a creamy fettuccine alfredo. The sauce was very heavy and buttery, and it was well seasoned with garlic. Ruggie brought the fork to his lips, and next thing he knew, he had cleaned the whole plate. The food settled heavy in his stomach, but Yuu was looking at him expectantly.
“The pasta was really well cooked, and the seasonings were perfect, but the sauce was really heavy. Maybe lighten up on it the next time.” He suggested.
“Noted! I'll adjust the recipe later.” Yuu replied. They got up and stepped into the kitchen, retuning a few moments later with some more dishes. Ruggie was starting to notice a theme in the dishes Yuu had made. They were large portions of very heavy and rich foods. He also noticed their eyes flicking down to his midsection quite often as he ate. After finishing the second dish, he decided to ask the obvious question.
“...Yuu, are you trying to fatten me up on purpose?” He said.
Yuu immediately flushed red and desperately tried to avoid eye contact.
“...Maybe a little bit.” Yuu mumbled. “You’re already really cute, and I thought you’d look even cuter with some extra pounds. Maybe even a lot of extra pounds…”
Ruggie had to stop his tail from wagging at the fact that Yuu though he was cute. They were trying to fatten him up like they were a villain from some fairytale! He had already started to slow down with the weight he had gained. If this kept up, it’d start to affect his performance at his jobs. He should tell Yuu to stop. He should say he quits being their taste-tester. He should say he’s never coming to Ramshackle Dorm again.
He should, but he doesn't want to.
Truth be told, Ruggie liked spending time with Yuu. He liked seeing them light up when he liked their cooking. He liked that they treasure his opinions and thoughts on their dishes. He liked eating like a king, not having to worry about food for a whole week because of the leftovers he scored from Yuu. Most of all, he liked Yuu. This wonderfully skilled cook and kind person had somehow found a runt like him worth so much of their time. If Yuu thought that Ruggie gaining weight made him cuter, then he’d let them feed him as much as they want.
He wanted to tell Yuu this, to somehow impress upon them how much he had come to cherish their dinners, the time they spent together.
Instead, what came out of his mouth was, “You’re lucky I like you, too. How many dishes do we have left? I could probably manage a few more pounds by the end of the night.”
“Not too many, just five or six!” Yuu said, beaming at him. They looked so happy that he was willing to indulge them.
And so the dinner continued, with Yuu bringing out a new dish every time Ruggie finished the prior one. He made sure to clean his plate, and Yuu praised him for it. About halfway through, he undid his belt and the fly of his pants, as they were starting to get too tight. When he reached for his fork to continue eating, Yuu gently grabbed his wrist, stopping him.
“If it’s alright, I’d like to feed you the rest of it.” They said. “Is that okay?”
“‘S fine…” Ruggie said, blushing. They were really going all in on the cooking and feeding him thing. Though, he had to admit, it felt nice to be spoiled and so taken care of. He let his hands fall to his sides. Yuu picked up the fork, and brought some of the food to his lips. Ruggie obligingly opened his mouth, and let Yuu feed it to him. And so they fell into the rhythm of being fed. It made it easy to ignore when his stomach started to ache. It was only after Yuu finished feeding him that he noticed how stuffed he really felt. His stomach had grown taut and round. It was hanging way over his waistband and had pushed his shirt up, exposing the slightly reddened flesh of his belly. Ruggie leaned back in his chair, hoping to help relieve some of the pressure in his tummy. Yuu seemed absolutely delighted by his growth. They stepped around the back of his chair, embracing him and pressing their cheek to his.
“Look at how cute and round you’ve gotten!” They said, their hands running down his chest and sides. One of their hands found its way to his tummy, and began rubbing soft circles on it. Ruggie couldn’t stop his tail from wagging. Their hands on his tummy felt wonderful, and helped relieve the pressure of his overstuffed gut.
“You really are spoiling me…” He mumbled.
“Of course I am! You’re my favorite.” They replied.
Their favorite, huh? Ruggie thought. I could get used to that.
Ruggie let out a yelp as Yuu suddenly picked him up. He didn’t think they were strong enough to lift him, but they didn’t seem to be struggling at all.
“You can spend the night here, Ruggie. I don’t think you could make it all the way back to Savannahclaw with your tummy so stuffed.” Yuu said.
“You just want an excuse to keep rubbing my tummy.” Ruggie teased.
“Maybe, maybe!” Yuu said, laughing. They brought Ruggie to their bedroom, and put him down on the bed. Then, they unceremoniously flopped down beside him. The cuddled up close, their arms wrapped around him, with one hand resting gently on his swollen tummy.
Before finally dozing off, Ruggie only had one thought.
Life is good.
