A poem, inspired by the mere title of the movie "We were soldiers", that I wrote one night about a year ago while serving military duty in the air force. It were intended to be about World War One, but the feelings witch I try to express in the poem could be inserted into almost any man fighting in any war. I hope you´ll like it, and if so, please rate and comment.

We Were Soldiers

We were soldiers going to war.

We were husbands with lovers left by the shore.

We were the sons of mothers who´d grieve us forever more.

We were soldiers going to war.

We were the men who fought for peace.

We fought for love and the swift summer breeze.

We were all men fighting for all that we cared for.

We were soldiers going to war.

We were fathers leaving our homes.

Then we were trained to follow orders like drones.

We were some men not knowing what we were in for.

We were soldiers going to war.

We were soldiers marching to war.

We got ready for whatever they had in store.

Then hell broke loose, bullets pierced the air with a roar.

We were soldiers fighting a war.

We were targets running around.

We got wounded when the grenades hit the ground.

I felt blood ooze out of my bosoms core.

We were soldiers losing a war.

We were soldiers kissed by hot lead.

We were fathers, lovers and sons, but now we´re all dead.

No one of us will see our loved ones anymore.

We were soldiers lost in a war.
