Chapter 4: Under the surface.

Hypter had, as always much to do but since he woke early and went to bed late and worked hard, he usually managed to do everything. When he woke up Spyro and Cynder was still asleep, so he sneaked out so he wouldn't wake them. Hypter went to the kitchen to make some breakfast, he did the same as he did yesterday and he took it to his room, like he did yesterday and he knocked before going in, just like yesterday.

"So...how did it go yesterday?" Hypter asked as he noticed that the Spyro and Cynder woke up.

"Who are you and what are you doing in here?" Spyro yelled, as he didn't recognise Hypter.

"What are you talking about, it's me Hypter." Hypter replied.

"What have happened to the colour on your scales?" Spyro said with a raised voice since almost all of Hypter´s scales had shifted colour. "Shit, don't look into my eyes!" Hypter yelled as he turned around, making both Cynder and Spyro almost bounce of the bed since Hypter almost never raised his voice. "So it's time for that again..." Hypter said with a sigh.

"Time for what? And why shall we not look into your eyes?" Cynder asked after finishing one of the sandwiches, even if she was scared, she was starving so she didn't care much of what was happening, she just avoided looking at Hypter.

"I noticed for some years ago that the crystal I make the anti hormone potion from. Have a small amount of radiation that gives me control over the shadow element and also changes the colour of my scales. The blue colour you see now is the original colour on my scales." Hypter explained as he brushed of the reddish scales remaining and revealing the deep blue scales underneath and his belly was turquoise instead of orange. "So, you are an ice dragon then? Not a fire that it would seem like." Spyro said as he admired the intense blue colour of Hypter´s scales.

"Indeed but I can control three elements but the last one I rather not talk about but that element is why you must not look in my eyes when you see me with blue scales." Hypter explained as he looked down on the floor.

"I know what you mean Hypter, I feel the same way." Cynder said since she also could control unusual elements. "No you don't understand Cynder, this is nothing I am ashamed of but since I can't control it completely it can harm you if you look into my eyes." Hypter explained.

"So that special element, does your control over it has something to do with the crystal?" Spyro asked interested.

"Spyro, you can't just question him like that!" Cynder said with a raised voice since she felt sorry for Hypter. "Oh sorry Hypter I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Spyro said, as he understood that Hypter probably felt uncomfortable about his power.

"No it's ok Spyro, and the answer to your question is: no. My power doesn't have anything to do with the crystal except that it now automatically activates when I'm changing colour. That is why I suppress my original colour." Hypter replied. "I can control the psychic element and since I wasn't awake the ability works as a defence. It draws power from my suppressed personality and is working like a nightmare except you feel the power of my element, which is ice, instead of fear but as fear it's only an illusion." Hypter explained but got cut of by Spyro.

"Suppressed personality? Do you have a suppressed personality?" Spyro outburst with a laugh since Hypter was the most unlikely person to have a suppressed personality. "It all becomes clear if you let me finish." Hypter replied. "During the war many told me I was cold and calculating, even if I was a field medic I used my personality to judge the situation. I could sacrifice someone that wouldn't have survived for someone that had a chance even if it was cold it was a decision that had to be done. Using my powers to stop bleeding wounds and to hold back enemies. I had the highest rank in the medic team and was called: Cold heart. But since the war ended I have been trying to suppress that part of me, resulting in the other effect of my hypnosis ability. But that is only working while I'm asleep. When I'm awake it is different since I can control it a bit. So it would have put you under a shorter hypnosis instead, since you are my friend but if you were my enemy I would have killed you with it." Hypter explained to Spyro. Both Spyro and Cynder were surprised about what Hypter had said and just sat quiet until Hypter spoke up.

"But enough about that, how did you like the book?" Hypter asked, changing subject.

"The book was a good idea Hypter but we didn't mate since you didn't explain how we should do so I wont get pregnant." Cynder replied.

"Was this your idea Hypter?" Spyro asked surprised.

"Well yes since you have been a couple in four years or something it would be on time that you actually mated. But since I'm here now I can explain what to do so that Cynder wont get pregnant...lets see it should be here somewhere." Hypter said as he started to rummage his cupboard "Aha I found it." Hypter exclaimed as he found a bottle. "What's in the bottle?" Spyro asked, since he wanted to know what could prevent pregnancy and fit in a bottle. "It's a floating rubber, it's just to smear it on the tip of your shaft and it will prevent your cum to enter Cynder. But I advise you to not move around to much when you have finished since the bubble formed by the rubber is very fragile." Hypter explained. "What is 'cum' Hypter?" Spyro asked, the question made Hypter sigh.

"I believe that you released it yesterday, before you release it feels like you are going to pee." Hypter said as he tried to explain the best he could. "Oh so that white gooey stuff is cum?" Spyro said in surprise. "Yes and it's also that, that makes females pregnant but only if it enters her vagina" Hypter said. "But I don't have time to sit here and talk I have much to do, give me the sheets so I can wash them. And eat the breakfast before it gets cold." Hypter said as he concentrated and suddenly the red colour on his scales returned. "There, now it's no harm for you to look in my eyes but if you see that I change colour again avoid eye contact. Oh and Spyro, east of the mountain I told you about there is a pond, maybe you and Cynder should go there and take a bath to get the cum of your scales" Hypter suggested. "If you start to sneeze when going out there are some medicine left in the red bottle over there." Hypter said as he started to walk out from the room with the sheets on his back and closed the door behind him.

Hypter walked towards the infirmary and on his way there he met Cyril and Volteer. "Hi guys, do you have time for the chat now?" Hypter asked.

"Yes, we were actually on our way to see you." Cyril answered.

"Good, the I'll accompany you two there then and make the laundry later." Hypter said.

"How come you are making laundry Hypter? These sheets take forever to get dirty." Volteer said.

"Ah yes, as the experiment progresses, there was an expected accident that occurred." Hypter explained as the three dragons arrived at the infirmary. As the two guardians and Hypter entered the infirmary, Hypter closed the door behind them. "So, you couldn't ignore the urges I guess." Hypter said, making the two guardians blush a little. "Now since you two are adult, you need no education or warnings, it's just to bad here is no female dragons in your age. But I presume that you two always have been a couple, anyway, I don't have much to say to you two except that you have to keep your visits at the night and off course to keep them quiet. And make sure to keep your shaft in the slit Cyril, and brush yourself of before going out from Volteer´s room." Hypter said and continued. "Are you bathing in the pond near the mountain?" Hypter asked since he barely saw the guardians leaving the temple. "No we are not, we use the more intimate way of bathing." Cyril answered making Hypter laugh. "Ok...no details please. Well, I don't have any more to say so to you two, so you can go now if you want." Hypter said as he opened the door. "Now if you excuse I shall make the laundry." Hypter said as he flew out through the window towards the pond near the mountain. Trees, bushes and soft green grass surrounded the pond because of the infinite supply of water. Making the sunlight stream through the green leaves and made the water in the pond glistering with an almost magic glow.

As Hypter reached the pond he noticed that some one else was there, it was Ember and Flame. "Hi there, I see you two enjoy the water." Hypter said as he stepped out from the bushes, making the two dragons jump. "Oh, hi Hypter, yes the water is lowely but what are you doing here?" Ember replied.

"Oh I'm just here to wash my sheets, I hoped that you two should drop by the infirmary before I got here so I could take both sheets at the same time." Hypter said as he raised an eyebrow.

"Oh yes, sorry Hypter we totally forgot about it, we were busy doing stuff." Ember said.

"Wait, how come he knows that we have done it?" Flame suddenly spoke up.

"I visited Ember last night expecting that you should be there with her since you both missed the urgent class I held, and I was right, you was there...sleeping at the floor, which was unsuspected." Hypter explained, ending the sentence with a laugh. Flame blushed and looked away because he was embarrassed of that he had fallen of the bed without waking up. "Hi Spyro and Cynder, you can come out from the bushes now if you want, I know you two are there." Hypter said suddenly. Making Ember and Flame look towards the bushes opposite to Hypter but instead Spyro and Cynder walked out from the bushes behind Hypter. "How did you know we were there?" Cynder asked.

"I thought I heard something in the bushes so I made an ice mirror of water so I could look behind me." Hypter explained making Flame react since he didn't know Hypter was an ice dragon.

"But how could you do that?" Flame said.

"Oh right, you and Ember don't know I'm an ice dragon. Anyway now you two know it as well." Hypter said. Then the thought hit Ember that Spyro and Cynder overheard Flame and hers conversation with Hypter. "So Spyro and Cynder, how long where you hiding behind that bush?" Ember asked.

"They stood there long enough to hear what you hope they shouldn't hear." Hypter answered. "But to make it equal I can say that Spyro and Cynder have mated too." Hypter said causing Cynder to get angry. "Hey Hypter, what about privacy!" She said with an angry tone.

"I said it so that you two couples shall know the same about each other so that no one will start to spy on the other couple." Hypter explained.

"That sounds fair." Spyro said, as he agreed to Hypter's point. "Anyway, it's good that you found a mate Ember, same for you Flame." Spyro said.

"Thanks" both Ember and Flame said.

"Sorry to interrupt you guys but Ember could you come with me so that we can fetch the sheets from your room, if you want them washed before you go to bed." Hypter said.

"Sure, I'll be right back Flame." Ember said as she blow him a kiss and took off, following behind Hypter. "I must ask you Flame, how come Ember fell in love with you, since she almost never left me alone it's weird when she completely ignores me, I don't complain about it though." Spyro asked since Ember had been as glued to Spyro before. "Actually it's thanks to Hypter. She tested some sort of potion that made her listen to everything someone told her, I told her to get lost and that she did. She blamed it on Hypter off course. And when Hypter and I went out and looked for her we found her in the woods, collapsed because of the potion. And when we had carried her back to the dragon temple, she woke up and Hypter told her that it was I that had carried her all by myself. Since then she have seen me as her saviour." Flame explained.

"It's almost the same with us, if it hadn't been for Hypter, Spyro here probably wouldn't have told me that he loves me." Cynder said, making Spyro blush a little. "Anyway...Last one in the pond is a smelly baboon!" Cynder yelled as she darted towards the pond with the two other dragons closely behind.

When Hypter returned with Ember the three dragons was still splashing around in the water. "Hey, time to get up from there or you will turn to raisins." Hypter said.

"Oh come on Hypter, the water is so warm, why don't you jump in?" Cynder said.

"No, I don't have time, and this is the last warning, get up from the water." Hypter said.

"Why don't you make us?" Spyro said with a smile, he had totally forgotten Hypter was an ice dragon. Hypter went down to the pond and dipped a claw in the water, chilling it several degrees making the three dragons jumped up from the pond with a yelp. "I told you guys, man you should really learn to listen when someone tells you to do something guys, and Cynder." Hypter said with a laugh.

"Hypter that wasn't funny." Flame complained as he was walking to a sunny spot to warm from the suddenly cold bath. "I agree with Flame, it was not nice." Spyro said as he lay down in a sunny spot on the grass just like Flame. "I agree with Flame too." Said Ember as she lay down beside her mate.

"And my opinion is with Spyro." Cynder said as she curled up against her mate to regain some warmth. "Oh, come on it was just a joke." Hypter said as he started to wash the sheets. When he was finished he noticed that his friends had fallen asleep and decided to make something nice for them. First he made sure that his friends were sleeping, and then he changed appearance to his original colour. Then green flames appeared on his right front paw and as he held up the paw in front of his face a mask of ice started to assemble, it was white with one green claw mark running vertically over each eye. He had figured that it would cower his eyes but allowed him to expand his line of sight by bending the ice crystals around the eye part into an orb shape, much like the eyes of a fly, but off course it was not visible on the outside of the mask.

Hypter walked down to the water and put his paw just above the surface as cool air slowly started to leak around it, freezing the water underneath it. Then Hypter charged out a few meters on the pound making the water freeze where his paws touched the surface. Then he pulled up four ice blocks, they were about one square meter. Then his front paws started to get covered in green flames, and then he started to cut in the four ice blocks with almost surgical precision.

When the Spyro woke up in the afternoon he rubbed his eyes and stretched as he let out a yawn. When he looked around he saw something he thought was an illusion, four ice sculptures that looked exactly like him, Cynder, Flame and Ember. Spyro had to rub his eyes again to make sure it wasn't an illusion. "Hey Cynder, wake up." Spyro said as he nudged her gently.

"Huh, what is it Spyro, is it time to go home?" Cynder asked when she stretched and let out a yawn before dropping her maw in amazement to the perfectly made ice statues of herself and her friends. "Wow Spyro, the ice sculptures are amazing, where did they come from and who made them?" Cynder asked, as she couldn't stop staring at the statues. "Oh I think I know just who have made them and I think I know why too." Spyro said as he saw Hypter sitting near the water and staring out on the pond, his scales was read again since he had supressed his original state. "Nice work Hypter, I didn't know you were so good at sculpturing." Spyro said as he walked down to Hypter. "Oh, thanks Spyro, I know that my joke earlier wasn't appreciated so I decided to make it up to you." Hypter replied as he continued to look out on the pond.

"Maybe it's time to get back to the temple, it's getting late." Hypter said as he prepared to take off.

"Shall we not wake Flame and Ember?" Spyro asked.

"No, let them sleep, I'll inform Volteer since I have to talk with him either way." Hypter answered as he took off closely follow by Spyro and Cynder.

When they arrived at the gate Hypter separated first delivered the sheets to the two rooms, then walked to Volteer's room.

"Hi Volteer, I just came to tell you that to get more information to the experiment I have decided to follow another couple as well." Hypter said, as he waited for Volteer to ask him what couple it was.

"Oh, what other couple?" Volteer asked, which was kind of obvious.

"Flame and Ember." Hypter answered, knowing Volteer would react to this.

"Flame and Ember you say...wait, did you say Flame and Ember?" Volteer asked.

"Yes I did, something wrong?" Hypter asked.

"How come they are together, if I'm not remembering wrong, Ember had a huge crush on Spyro, how come she is with Flame?"

"If you must know, for some days ago Ember got lost in the forest, at night. Flame and I was looking for Ember since she hadn't returned. When we found her she was collapsed, probably because she was tired. Anyway...Flame and I carried her home to the dragon temple and when she woke up I told her that flame had carried her alone, from then she have seen him as her saviour and doesn't care about Spyro anymore." Hypter explained. "That must be a relief for Spyro and Cynder since they are a couple." Volteer said.

"That was why I said that Flame carried her alone and that is why Ember sees Flame as her hero." Hypter said. "Smart move, young dragon." Volteer said, as he didn't know much about what grade Hypter had in the war. "I know, after all I was the highest ranked strategist during the war, not only in the medic team. The only one that did and still do surpass me is Terrador." Hypter said. "Well, I better be going because I have a class to tend to." Hypter continued as he walked out from the room. "Oh and please tell Cyril about it too since he probably would be cranky if he wasn't informed." Hypter said, making Volteer laugh a little.

Meanwhile Flame and Ember had woken up from the little midday nap. "Huh, where did everybody go?" Flame asked with a sleepy yawn.

"I don't know my little strawberry." Ember replied with a giggle as she licked Flame on the cheek.

"Ember, you know that I don't like you to call me that." Flame said.

"Oh you know I'm just teasing you my little hubbey." Ember said with a smile.

"Ember seriously...wow, look at that." Flame said as he suddenly noticed the ice sculptures.

"Wow, hey those two to the right look likes us." Ember said as she noticed the similarity, even if they had melted a bit, the features was still easy to see.

"Ye, you have right, do you think Hypter is behind this?" Flame asked.

"There is only one way to find out." Ember answered as she took off, since she wanted to know if he could make a more lasting sculpture of her and Flame.

It was late in the afternoon and the sun was about to set when Ember and Flame arrived at the dragon temple. "Phew, what a luck we made it in time since Cyril is so strict with the rule about not being out after sunset." Flame said.

"Ye, and why is he so strict about that anyway?" Ember asked but the one who responded was not Flame. "It's because...Evil lurks everywhere! No I'm just kidding, it's because there are still forces left from Malefors army." Cyril said. "And shouldn't you two be off to bed?" Cyril asked.

"Ye, when we have found Hypter, we-I have something to ask him." Ember said.

"Well, he is in the kitchen but don't ask me what he is doing there in the middle of the night." Cyril said. As Flame and Ember in the long corridors they were struck by an irresistible smell that drew them towards the kitchen. When they arrived it was dark in the kitchen because the only light in there was the glow from the stone oven. They saw a dark figure standing near the big table. "Hypter is it you that is over there?" Ember asked, she knew Hypter should be in the kitchen but the dragon that was standing there didn't look like Hypter.

"Ah, good that you two have come." The shadowy figure said with an evil smirk. "Because I need some help to...eat up all the cookies I made." Hypter said as he stepped forward with a plate full of new baked cookies. Hypter nearly scared Ember to death as he sprung closer all of a sudden. "Oh Hypter, don't do that!" Ember said angry.

"Oh sorry, I'm just so exited because I found an old recipe with chocolate cookies in my room as I was cleaning it after my class." Hypter explained.

"Well the do smell incredible." Flame said, as he started to droll.

"Hey Flame, where are your manors." Ember said as she saw Flame droll all over his paw.

"Oh, heh I guess I blame Hypter for not giving me one of the cookies." Flame said as he made a childish grimace. "Now, the cookies are not only for you two, Spyro and Cynder shall have half of the cookies." Hypter said as he divided the cookies in two baskets. "Can I trust you two to deliver one of the baskets to Spyro and Cynder?" Hypter said as he looked at Flame and raised an eyebrow.

"Off course you can Hypter, isn't that right Flame?" Ember said as she run an elbow in Flame's side.

"Ouch, I get the message my pumpkin pie" Flame said, which made Ember furious.

"What...did...you...call...me?" Ember asked with a killing stare.

"I'm sorry Ember I didn't now that you..." Flame was interrupted by Hypter, as he saw that Ember was ready to strike Flame down if he would have continued talking. "Oh, thanks for reminding me Flame, I almost forgot to pick the pumpkin up from the basement." Hypter said, making Ember cool down a bit. "Now, can you take the baskets and deliver one of them to Spyro and Cynder before anyone of the guardians discovers that you two are still up?" Hypter asked.

"Good idea Hypter." Flame said as he took a basket in his jaw and walked towards Spyro's room.

"Oh and Flame, Spyro is in my room I think, he should fetch a thing there and I think he is still there." Hypter said receiving an "mh kh" from Flame. Ember took the other basket and followed Flame.

When Flame had delivered the basket with cookies to Spyro, then he walked towards Ember's room.

Since it was late both couples decided to go to bed and just cuddle before falling asleep.
